Nice looking Ranger. I have a 2015 Ranger 6x6 w/the Polaris steel cab and Eagle plow. Not as nice as the Boss but it works. I added the same front springs because the weight of the cab and plow really weighed it down. These machine are work horses I've had mine since Aug. of 15 and haven't had a singe problem with it.
Depending on the model of UTV, and the goodie package, you will be approaching 18-20k with all of it ...give or take. A base Ranger with no extras, with a basic plow would save you 3-6k roughly overall I think. The Ranger I got for $13,400 new (before the 1000cc came out), plow was $3200 installed, and the extras were another $1800. However, I use the Ranger for a lot more then just plowing around the property....one way I helped justify the expense.
Thanks for the video! You made up my mind about getting that set up. I was going to do that same plow set up but after watch how much it sags even with your hd springs I'm all set. I ride my general hard on trails and don't need the extra stiffness and I can only imagine how much it sagged with out the hd springs. That can't be good for the front end ware parts, ball joints, bushings , tie rods, and the shocks them selfs. I'll just go with a plastic plow from Polaris or super Atv. Thanks again for the vid. Good info.
Thanks. It has worked great so far this winter. What is nice about the upgraded springs is, the ride is much less harsh then one would think unloaded. Even just playing on trails. I will have to wait and see about wear and tear on the front end. When its not in use I simply detach it (NOT unhooked the entire plow)with the quick release to unload the suspension....10 sec job.
That's pretty heavy. A video would be cool. You have to hit the reply button so others know you have replied to comments. Luckily one of my followers told me you responded :)
For me, I really enjoy the UTV for my needs. I plow around 600 ft of driveway, and another 600 feet or so of gravel paths leading to our woods and a shooting range. I have not been disappointed with the Ranger yet. The Ranger could handle the plow, in my opinion, without all the upgrades. The heater is definitely not needed, and the stock springs may dip a little more under the load, but many guys have posted stock Rangers using the Boss V plow. I would recommend some type of auxiliary lighting to see over the plow when fully lifted up. I just pushed 8 inches of damp snow this past weekend without any troubles....it is a little snow pushing tank. The sander would be very cool, and yes I have considered it. The ballast in the rear with either a sander or weight of some kind is really smart. It would be another added cost, and my neighbor sands the drive for free if I ask. I may consider it next year. In my opinion if your driveway is on the smaller side, and you are not getting knee deep snow frequently, an ATV with a straight blade will do the job just fine. Bigger drives/areas and deeper snow falls make the UTV a better choice if I am pressed to choose. I have never used a Gator, Mule or Kubota UTV before, but any are capable options I think. I wont lie, a new Ranger/UTV and Boss plow are not cheap, with or without any extras. I added what I did because I plan to keep them both until they die. The maneuverability and plain fun of a UTV or ATV is just a little bonus. My last piece of advice would be if you are doing any commercial lots, a jeep or truck would still be preferred for time savings. Hope my rambling helps a little...good luck. Show less
I have pretty much same setup in the hunter package as I do a lot of hunting. My came with top glass front and rear windshield and half doors. I bought the power window door as well as heater. The heater is over kill for the size but really help with defrost and keeps wiper for freezing up. I did the glacier poly plow with hydro.up dn and turn. I love my rangerI am 55 year old guy and do a lot of plowing. I have to wear light clothes to keep from sweating so much. I have more in my ranger than I paid for my first house but so far I have paid back over 1/3 of cost in plowing. Keep making those great videos! Cant wait till I see it plowing. One thing you may consider is a Duracluch system. The single best investment I made when I first bought mine. I think I had 20 miles when I installed it
Nice setup I just would add 14” Bearclaws you”ll find it easier to get around in heavier snow. But then I live in the Mountains of Montana. I don’t like installing chains so use Bearclaw tires. Best traction with 200# of sand in the Ass end .
I would highly recommend tire chains if you haven't already tried them. I went with the v-bar diamond style tire chains on my Grizzly 700, it's night and day difference.
Thank you, your videos have been very informative. I am getting ready to pull the trigger on the boss power VXT for my ranger 900, just curious how it has held up and how it does with the bigger storms?
Marc. I posted an update on the ranger, that answers your question in the detail you are looking for. A colder, fluffy snow and be as deep as you want, and no problem. With a heavier snow, make sure you have ballast, and take narrower passes at around 8-10 inches. Overall, I'm very happy. Like anything, the more caution you use, the less likely to hurt your machine. I can plow a lot of snow I feel. Always use low.
Jim, I do not have front mud guards on mine. I wanted the rear guards to keeps mud and snow out of the honeycomb area, under the bed. And out of the engine area as best I could. You may be able to find front guards after market by now.
If you had to do it all over, with the plow as the determining attachment would you have gone with a different ATV or UTV that might require less upgrades...eg.Springs, Lights? How much snow are you usually clearing? How long is your driveway? I've been plowing with a 99Jeep Wrangler for the last 10 years, but about to sunset the Jeep so I'm trying to decide if a ATV or UTV is a better option for me. How about adding a sander to the back of the Polaris? Appreciate your feedback...

The lights you have on top would be perfect, where did you get those? My Ranger barely fits in my garage so I need a light bar that can't be above the roof. It looks like your is below the top of your roof.
Really nice plow man, I was wondering if your suspension was cranked all the way tight or not when you lifted the plow? I have the new style ranger crew 1k I want to get a plow like this

DeereMaster445 No. The boss plow was an after thought after the purchase. I had intended on using my truck to plow until I researched plow options for a UTV.

Timmy Rogo No, Tim. The plow comes with all necessary components, and was installed at the dealer. Immediately ready to plow once I picked it up. The stuff I added was just wants, not needs. 400 lbs of ballast in the bed is a great idea, and perhaps a heavier spring up front. Thanks.

How do you keep warm with the open care I priced out a 570 with a plow and enclosed with a glass front end at nine glass back with doors on $18,000 I see you have no doors how do you keep warm
Pat, I installed the factory heater to defrost the windshield. With the heater, and the front and rear windshield, it does a good job for warmth. It has to get really cold for me to notice with this set up. Like around 0 degrees, cold. At that point, an extra layer of clothing made more sense, then $2400 for the doors Polaris charges. It's perfect for me 99 percent of the time. What plow are you looking at?
Mark Saxton Mark, the straight blade may very well weigh that. The V plow weighs 400 according to the manual, and I would say it damn accurate. The V is not close to 245.

The 6' Western Impact straight plow (steel) is 261 pounds. The 6' Western Impact V-plow (steel) is 354 pounds. So it looks like maybe the sweet spot might a 6' straight plow, especially if a guy doesn't have that much snow to plow. While it would certainly be nicer to have a V-plow, I'm not sure if it's worth the extra 85 pounds (and about $800, last I saw) to go that route--and it's almost 140 less weight if you choose the Western 6' steel plow over the 6'6" Boss V-plow. I suppose that if a guy could install it himself then you'd save some money I guess--but I am not sure how difficult that is to do.
