- For many people it's been another day filled with hours of sunshine.
For those who flocked to the beaches and parks it was welcome relief from the restrictions of the pandemic.
But as people gathered, scientists were sounding the alarm about the threat from a third wave of infections.

Blistering sun, a polluted ocean, traffic jams and queues. I’m struggling to see the appeal!
So are anyone else. Which is why nobody from outside the UK comes to Britain for the beaches.
The beaches in Cornwall and Devon are stunning even by global standards; you've just got to make the effort to go down there. Too many people in the comments apparently only dream as far as Blackpool and Skegness when they consider a UK beach holiday.

Skegness and Blackpool are cheap and cheerful, Cornwall etc are nicer places
Worst water in Europe after Poland, and many beaches and coastal stretches are full of rubbish, plastics etc. The beaches aren’t nice by global standards, that is delusional. If they were foreign tourists would visit. They don’t.

Britain has the highest population density of any country in Europe and it's no surprise that in the northwest around Liverpool the water quality is so poor. 61 beaches in Cornwall are rated 'excellent' by contrast. Sure, why would the French or Spanish travel north for beaches? I live in Tokyo and international visitors don't come to this country for beaches either, but like so many countries, there are nice beaches when you get 4-5hrs away from the bays and ports of the urban areas.

The lake district is far more pleasant than the endless barren landscapes of the Scottish Highlands

Some people will blame Brexit for anything; even good weather, a pandemic and a travel ban imposed by other countries on a country that has one of the best vaccination rates in the world. We’ll be holidaying abroad soon to all the countries that will welcome us.

Because we don't always have the weather, UK hols cost as much as going abroad, and UK B&B or hotels are a bit stale, that's why. But now we have no choice, so carry on while you can. ✌️

The Isle of Wight is nice. I spent a week there once and it was lovely. Loads to do

No idea why UK holidays are so expensive. We got lucky with the weather a few times over the years, but not this year. Still rip off Britain I guess. Much easier to holiday in Europe before British thickoes believed in Farage and Johnson.

@Zombie Detective Yes you will, if you never get out and look around you.. I’ve hiked to many places ..try instead if using wheels ..see the true beauty of the UK .. Go camping off the beaten trail.. fantastic ..I’m to old now but I’ve done just that when I could

and you're right, I am further south at the moment, March and April were wonderful, then May was like a gigantic cold winds machine. I still do not comprehend this compulsion to escape one's beautiful country...I suppose that seeking a more accomodating weather played its part in invasions sucessive waves (besides greed)🏖
Not really, the water is still dirty, and it can still rain for days on end randomly
I my country we already had the freedom of sunny summer holidays, as out government went for elimination not containment as happened in the UK.

Going abroad was great in the 70’s and 80’s but once we joined Europe the fun was gone. I’d much rather spend a week away in my own country than in Spain.
Why does joining Europe instantly make going places like Spain no longer fun?
