Thanks Nikki, I love how your “don’t” side is not exaggerated, and very much relatable & still ok/good, but you just provide those useful yet subtle tips to bring it up a notch xo ❤️
Guys it's the curse of having two differently set eyes!!! As Nikki's mentioned in many vids of past, her right eye(the do side) is hooded. So what ends up happening is our conditioned eyes automatically veer towards the wider more "normal" looking eye. Obviously in comparison we can actually see the work that's been put in on the don't side. Also, Nikki is an artist. She will indubitably bang out the biggest of makeup no-no's with perfect ease. That is called talent 👏🏼❤
I think, apart from the lashes, the "don't" side actually makes the eyes look larger, as the crease shadw is pulled to the upper center of lid, rounding the eye up. Applying lashes so the longest appear at the center (rather than outer corners) of the eyes also helps lift hooded eyes up, rather than narrowing/elongating them. For someone (like me) who has wider-set eyes and a lot of lid space, it's good to bring a darker tone up more and into the inner corners of upper lid space, as long as it's well blended (rather than focusing the darkest along the outers, which pulls eyes farther apart). So much of this depends on eye size, placement & shape. That said, both looks are stunning, just different. 😊
I agree. When I look at the thumbnail, my eyes are immediately drawn to the "don't" eye. Ive always been told the "don't line the waterline, it closes the eye up" thing but irl I really disagree. It defines them beautifully and is sultry. The "do" side is beautiful, but very daytime
Nikki, I'm a MUA based in ldn, have been doing it for 15 years. Not that you need my validation 🤣 but you're such a great mua! Such fab tips for non Muas ❤️💃
Nikki, This is a fantastic tutorial!! It’s such an effective teaching technique to show what NOT to do contrasted with what TO do. Thank you for taking the time to carefully demonstrate and EXPLAIN the why for each step and technique. ❤❤❤
Wow, I never even thought about any of this. Your gonna make us pros at the makeup game with all your tips and tricks. Definitely using these next time I do my makeup.
Hi Nikki! I’m a freelance makeup artist, and I love your explanation and demonstration of eyelash application. I’ve taught clients to do the same. I used to pull up pictures I had saved on my phone of Sophia Loren. I zoomed in and showed them how far off her lashes were from her lid to give her that lift. When you look close, you see the little gap between lash and upper lash line, as well as the length. She had her lashes going up and out past her lash line. The application of makeup is art. I can’t draw to save my life, but I can transform and teach. Nikki, thank you for the work you put into your videos and for helping people get their makeup how they want. Being able to teach is a beautiful thing that not everyone has. Have a beautiful weekend. I hope I don’t miss the Live tomorrow.
Omg thank you so so much for the sweet message!!!! This means a lot to me, I appreciate the support!! Love that you use Sophia Loren as a lash reference for your clients. She’s one of my favorite faces ever !! I’ll definitely work on filming a more in depth lash video for my channel if it’s something you’d like to see!! Again thank you so much for the kind words and have a great weekend as well!!
@@Makeupbynikkilarose I think since you have the platform, it would help many people understand lashes and lash application for different eye shapes. I freelance, but there’s always room to learn something new. And because you have the talent of explaining and teaching, I’m sure many people would appreciate it. I wanted to begin a UA-cam channel way back around 2009, but things didn’t go my way. Years later, the beauty space became something difficult to see myself flourish in. I do enjoy your content because you always think about the viewers/subscribers first. I hope your channel keeps growing. I also love Sophia Loren’s face!
That eyeliner hack was MUCH needed for me!! I used to use eyeliner daily in my early 20’s and now that I rarely use it, when i try to apply it for a special occasion, it looks terrible. Thank you sooooo much for those tips!!!
So glad I found your channel. I have similar eyes to you. They’re hooded AND deep set (a bit more deep set than yours, but still similar). Every year or so, I attempt liquid liner and give up because it never looks right. It always ends up either looking like a weird check mark or too thick. Gonna give it a try using your tips and see how it goes.
Hi Nikki, I just subscribe to you channel. I’m 67 years old and I love learning from you! Your beautiful and so kind! Thank you so much for teaching us . ❤️
I've subscribed to your channel because you give tips that no one else does. where you hold the brush is a great example. Please keep the detail in your posts!
Thanku for the intro cuz I luv the look of the Wrong side & I do some of these things, ur eyes look bigger on the wrong side btw! Thanks for tutorial ❤️
Dear Nikki, informative, well explained and SHOWN. The subtle differences really added to a much better appearance. Would love more of these type videos. 😊I have heard and used these tips before but your illustrative teaching style is excellent and brought it all together.
Love the tips you have given on this videos! I am totally guilty of piling up too much eyeshadow on my brush, not tapping off the excess, and then wondering why I can't blend it on my eyelid after swirling it around my eyelid for a while. Thanks so much :)
I use a mascara with a fluffy dramatic brush like that in the roots ,let it dry, and then go in with a more spaced out lengthening brush. Good advice, mascara should be applied in layers.
I love your style, tips and your content so much! I’m getting married next year, would you consider doing a bridal makeup video for brides who love products but perhaps lack the professional finesse? Lots of love from the UK ❤
100% agree with all of this. Except I like the half-lash to be slightly (emphasize on slightly) tapered/longer on the outside for an even stronger lifting effect. Im glad we just kind of all realized around 2020 we dont a full band of lashes with 1 inch hairs at the inner corner - makes the application so much easier aswell.
I’m no spring chicken but still love makeup. Learn so much from your videos, eg powder on lids before applying eye shadow. Have Paw Paw sponges and the black powder puffs you recommended and they’re great.
One tip I learned from Rose (Rose n Ben) is to just put a tiny amount of product onto a brush and to be very percise on where you put the product on the brush. This has truly changed my makeup game, I just go slow and pick up very little product and go slow and then I dont have to tap off any excess :)
@shychameleon Yes, exactly as I do. Very wasteful if you're paying over €35 for eyeshadow. I think with practice you start to learn the amount that's sufficient.
Absolutely fantastic video!! The times I’ve said similar things to people who have hooded eyes, or who don’t understand blending but they don’t understand what I’m getting at. I’m going to save this and show them as it’s so much easier for people to understand when they’re shown like this! I love how you explain to people. I’ve been a mua for nearly 30 years and I am still learning about makeup, I love your videos because I always feel I’m learning from you! Thank you 😊.
Wow I didn't really see a difference on camera until you got to the countour and blush, but I'm so impressed with those 2 steps. Going to try these for sure! You're stunning so you look beautiful anyway but I'm hoping for a fraction of these results. Thanks for the tips!
Yessssssssss!!! I love your videos. My makeup game has changed. Plus a just finished my makeup artist certification and your videos have helped me big time. Best wishes.
Thank you for this!! I’ve had those exact lashes in my drawer for a while. I’ve always wanted to try putting them on but it seemed overwhelming. This video has given me inspiration! 💗
Nikki, what 24hr waterprood pencil did you use?. Your my makeup guru,, adore you, never stop doing what you do. You truly are the best Ive seen !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I do basically everything on the “don’t” side 😂 except for the lashes which I find too hard to even attempt. I’m excited to try these techniques to bring my makeup application to the next level ❤
instead of wasting eye shadow and having it all over your work surface, the floor etc.....have you tried just lightly pressing into the shadows gently and then standing the brush up on end and tapping it on the counter once? That method works better for me, gets it into the brush without making as much of a mess. Some really soft shadows I actually just lightly lay my brush on them and don't even have to press on them to pick up plenty and then I stand the brush on end (vertically) and tap once on the table and there is so much less powder everywhen then going tap tap tap and holding the brush sideways/at an angle. It's working well for me doing it this way but I'd love to have your take on it♥I'm definately trying some of your tips such as not choking up on the brush handle and starting with the darker shade and blending inward into the crease and am definately seeing improvement already - thanks!
Remain teachable everybody. It will unlock parts of your brain you have not used. Thank you. I love to learn about makeup. Very helpful. I like the concealor eye trick. The blush trick. The contour placement. Keep your videos coming. We are all beautiful. Sisterhood is life.💄
For me I will soon have to have both Cataracts out , and there will be no eye makeup, i need my vision..but until that appointment, I will try your tips..just not the liquid liner, or false lashes...rock it for anyone else that enjoys them... Appreciate you
Nikki I love your makeup but I am so mesmerized by your square ring oh right hand . It is stunning. Can you buy it or did you have it made. Please let me know and again I love your makeup tutorials.
That was great advice with the false lashes. Since I just started trying to wear them I really wasn’t sure about applying mascara but it didn’t look to me like that was a bad thing but made your lashes blend better with the false lashes. 😊
I love the don’t side. But I do prefer you with more warm eyeshadow and lip liner etc. I love you with more makeup xx What warm shade did you use here?
I really don't want to offend you, but I find your "wrong" side by far more flattering, natural looking, it enhances your beautiful shape and lifts it, on the other side there's a slight dropping of the look from your eyes, but of course everybody has its own preferences...

I absolutely LOVE the "don't" side. You look stunning!!
So did I!
The don't side is dramatic, sultry and beautiful. The other side is like a day look, more natural. I'd do the don't look for evening.
Thanks Nikki, I love how your “don’t” side is not exaggerated, and very much relatable & still ok/good, but you just provide those useful yet subtle tips to bring it up a notch xo ❤️
The fact that how you did the DONT side even looks great 😂
I couldn’t tell which one was the wrong side at the start
I like both sides..to be honest..one is more sultry.
LOL!! Nothing wrong with that! Thank you so much for watching! I hope you still found it helpful!
@@Makeupbynikkilaroseit always does . I sadly have super hooded lids and find it hard doing my eyes

Any suggestions for mascara always getting on upper lashline during application? I always look like I'm wearing eyeliner when I'm not!
I love the don’t side. But I do prefer you with more warm eyeshadow and lip liner etc. I love you with more makeup xx
