I thought I knew about make up, but the beauty industry has exploded so much, it's hard to keep up! I'm learning so much from you!
In order to avoid the issue with skincare, I put my skincare on as soon as I get up and wait at least an hour before applying sunscreen and then make up 😊

OOOOOOO what about a video about on the spot solutions for the REAL mistakes that happen vs technical error! like a flakey dry patch, water marks from rain/tears, smudged mascara, too much brow product, a stubborn blemish, etc!! Things that could happen to even the best artists!

  • @CFAnne

I think there’s a lot of research with the recommended amount of spf and it can become a soupy mess if you do that. You’re coming from a makeup artist perspective but if you actually give the spf a few minutes to sink in you can apply the proper amount and should still be able to have a great base for makeup. Another option is to apply multiple light layers. That tends to work for me.

Thank you so much for commenting on this. Any level of protection is better than nothing but I agree with you it's better to apply the recommended amount (3 finger lengths) and let it dry down. Applying in layers is a great tip. Also, if your super oily, you didn't necessarily need to apply a moisturizer underneath. Your SPF will probably sink in better. This will probably be an unpopular opinion but if you have a really special event that you need your makeup to last all day for, if you're not going to be outside or the UV index is really low, just don't wear it. Even the best Asian sunscreens can break down makeup throughout the day.

The 'no foundation under the eyes' tip was a great pointer for me. I hadn't thought about the foundation formulas, which are not designed to be doing the same tasks as a concealer (or, at least, not as well). I am now going to avoid this slip up, haha, quite literally!

Great tips, Nikki. It's also so important to let skincare productd, especially sunscreen, dry down before applying primer or foundation. I love the d'Alba First Spray Serum. I let it dry, the add my Vitamin C serum. And a lightweight Coq-10 serum. Then onto a moisturizer, used sparingly. A mineral sunscreen, which I let sit for about 20 mins. I have super dry skin, and this works for me. Yes. Smallest amount of primer. I never use a heavy foundation on my mature skin. No pilling, I get a very smooth application. I never take foundation up under my eyes.
Fabulous idea with the setting spray.
    Thank you ever so much!💖💖

can you make a tutorial on how to fix eyeliner after whole base and eye makeup is done but when we mess up the liner.
if i use micellar water and remove the liner with q tip ,usually the concealer and everything underneath lifts off
i just don’t know what to do and then i pack on the eye shadow that iused previously and it just looks different 🥲
it happened to me countless number of times ,still trying to get better 😅

I haven't bought the Huda one, maybe that would mattify the heck out of my skin once and for all. And i do my skincare prep accordingly and all that,i am on tret also and i moisturize well, but that's just how my skin is. What i need is a gooooood setting spray for oily skin. Love your tips, and I’m absolutely into less layers to make it more natural and comfortable. Especially for oily skin.
But I just need to reiterate: when it comes to sunscreen, there’s no two ways about it. It *needs* that specific amount to be able to create a film on your skin, without any thinner areas or “wholes” in coverage. That’s how it’s tested, that’s how it works. (It also needs to be reapplied, but I’m not going to nag anyone about that).
So I work my routine around that, without losing any skincare benefits.
As someone with oily skin, I use a very watery serum that sinks into the skin, brings in plumpness and also has anti-oxidant benefits to improve the sunscreen’s performance. Let it sink in before moving on for a minute or so, Then go in directly with the sunscreen, proper amount, texture chosen according to the skin’s needs (lightweight, not greasy for me). Again, let it sink in for a good while so that it can create its protective film (I usually go get dressed or have breakfast).
I personally don’t need moisturiser, sunscreen almost always has some hydration or emollient elements to it. That can save a step that at the end of the day it’s unnecessary for oilier skin types.

Thank you, was using the Charlotte tilbury as setting powder. I've been getting frustrated. Also using too many different skincare products. I will make the changes. 🤞 it will be better.

I love you Nikki! Your videos have changed my life! One follow up
Question that I had… what are your thoughts on using multiple layers of setting spray at different stages of your makeup? Can you use too much setting spray? I almost always use 1 layer of spray before any makeup, 1 layer after all my base products and the one layer over my entire finished face… is this too much? Is it a waste? I’ve seen a ton of MUAs use multiple layers of setting spray… but you have never mentioned doing so…. I would love to know your thoughts….❤❤❤

I absolutely love love love when you make these types of videos, Nikki, your tutorials are so comprehensive.
I have learned so much watching you !
One thing that surprises me is that I watched Lisa Eldridge
and she brings foundation all the way to the under eyes, so I’m a bit on the fence about this one …

14:55 I tried to love that powder, but it doesn’t work for me! The prisme libre works super well, it’s amazing and lasts very long! And lately I revived my MAC studio fix, barely used, probably over 10 years old, and it still works so well, unbelievable!

I think you just saved me! I’ve been wondering why all my foundations look so heavy and it’s because I’ve been using waaaaaaay too much of that same Milk makeup primer. I don’t use four pumps but I usually use two full pumps along with one pump of another primer. 🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️🤦🏻‍♀️ Thank you so much for this content and advice! You’re the best!
Edit: I’ve done my makeup 3 times since watching and it looks so much better! THANK YOU!!! I got so many compliments from people saying my makeup looked really good. You changed the makeup game for me!!!

This is so timely for me! I know I use way too many layers of skincare, followed by primer, in my morning routine and wonder why my make-up pills! I feel like I'm losing out on the serum benefits if I leave them out, but if using less in the morning keeps my make-up from pilling, then I'll try it.

What if your concealer is lighter or darker than your foundation and then there is a clear divide between your foundation and concealer? Bringing your foundation under the eyes is what makes everything look uniform and flawless for me because the concealer is always slightly different than my foundation. It's not because I want it that way, it's just that I'm not great at picking exact shades. However I do apply my concealer first and then my foundation.

This is great! Thank you for sharing! I definitely see the importance of less is more, especially as I age. One of my biggest concerns is actually blending concealer. It's the strangest thing; underneath my left eye is almost always left with less product, and I can never get the same amount of coverage as my right side. I think it might have to do with how narrow and deep my inner eye/ corners are. Watching you use the brushes you use would cause all sorts of lines, and creases if I attempted to use a brush that large, and a sponge is WAY too big. Now that I am thinking about it, I may try using a small detail eyeshadow brush to see if that helps!
