  • Today at the Château, Ash and Tony take us on a tour through all of the outbuildings we have on the land, and talk about our future plans for them.
In some of the buildings, it is the first time we have been inside and looked around them, so it is exciting for us as it is for you.
We would love to know your ideas for what we could use some of the outbuildings for, please just message in the comments.
And If you would like to join us on our family journey restoring this once abandoned château, then please just follow the link below, 🥰

    About us:
We are a family from the North-East of England following our dream to restore a beautiful abandoned french Château. We discovered the heart stopping Château De Lalacelle in summer of 2020, this beautiful architectural monument Is set in the countryside of North-West France.
The moment we visited the Château we all fell in love, from the beautiful sweeping landscape and forests, to its stunning untouched interiors and magnificent spiral staircase in the turret.
Unfortunately Château De Lalacelle has been abandoned for a number of decades so will need a lot of restoration and DIY.
Please subscribe and follow our families journey, with the up’s and down’s in moving from the UK to rural France and restoring this beautiful building to its former glory.

The orangery still could be used to grow food and decorative plants, with a cafe terrace in front for a cuppa, maybe even a ploughman's lunch or sandwich daytimes, and cocktails and appies in the evenings, while enjoying the garden.

  • @debshaw680
    @debshaw680 4 роки тому +87

I think the orangery would be nice left as it is for cut flowers and veggies in the winter. It could have maybe a place to relax in nature for visitors while still serving a function that benefits your bottom line with fresh produce for the chateau. The chicken coop will be beautiful. Maybe some goats and sheep in the piggery area. If I were staying somewhere that beautiful, I’d want it to be something like the early days were. It’s a beautiful house and grounds.

I’ve heard the more you post to UA-cam the better for your channel to grow. I heard you say you may be to busy to make videos. When you are very busy, may I suggest making simple videos of you out for walks with the dogs discussing your weeks adventures. Less editing if done in one take. It’s still cold in much of the states and with so many people stuck inside, I personally crave seeing your nature areas. And cute dogs are always a joy to watch. Or just put a tripod down and film what you’re doing without too much talking. If you had one family member that could be in charge of editing and narrating and do that as their job. Remember more videos can equal more likes which means you get seen more. That could lead to more subscribers, views and $$$. In my opinion the videos are just as important as the restoration - for income.

I have just recently found your channel through the "chateaux diaries" on u-tube.. I enjoy watching renovations and am looking forward to yours. Now trying to catch up on all of your videos I hope to add my thought on your orange building ( or rather the one you can use to grow plants and food ). Might I be so bold as to suggest that you keep it as such because it will help you to feed your family. So convenient too!! PLEASE think about this seriously as we are living in a time that food WILL
      become scarce...
You might think that this will never happen but it already is..

One building near the chateau should be converted to a combination work shop, garden tool shed and garage. Safe, dry, and secure for power tools, lawnmower, etc. A place for your table saw and a work bench.

Hi guys. I lament the chateau owners who convert every last outbuilding into a holiday cottage. You are in a rural area, please consider preserving some of the original functions of each of these buildings. Get a couple of pigs! Also, it may not be practical or cost effective to run water and electrical services to the old stables and orangerie. Having some rustic spaces doesn't mean they are unusable. The old stables would be great as a project or teaching space to run workshops and small conferences. I think concentrating on the barn to provide event space and some guest accommodations would be a good start. Your idea of cabins down by the lake sounds really good.

  • @KatjeKat86

I think what you do with the barn depends on how you want to make money off the property. Also maybe talk to your neighbours does it make more sense to do a wedding venue or to just do holiday cottages, what's more profitable or less stressful, I think that's very personal. As for the orangery it looks like it would make a really lovely cottage but you mentioned previously that you were going to try to grow as much as you could to live off the land and the extended season than orangery would provide, might be something to think about. Your video quality over the last couple has definitely gone up particularly for sound, so congratulations on making interesting content that keeps getting better. Also if you are worried about people being interested seeing the tedious parts of renovation, timelapses work really well plus you could do things like take us on one of the walks with the dogs so we could see a bit of the beauty of the countryside, just an idea.

Your buildings and land have so much potential! For the orangery perhaps restore it celebrating the kind of aesthetic design that it may have originally had & with indoor plants - it would make a beautiful holiday rental, would it be large enough to host any kind of events? The barn does look like it could be a great entertainment/function space that you could generate income from eg parties, wedding receptions or holistic space eg yoga, qi gong, mindfulness sessions etc.

    • @chateaudelalacelle

Thank you so very much for explaining the types of buildings on the estate. It looks like the first thing you need to do is clear away the overgrowth and get a feel of how the buildings can be used for visitors. Maybe the horse stables could be used for a swimming pool changing rooms with a bar. I love your family room and once you redo the walls and add electrical outlets this would be a wonderful place for guest to come together in the evening and have refreshments and meet other guest. Keep up the great work. I can't wait to see what other projects you are doing.

I am so happy you went with using hay bales to help stop wind around the Caravans, I mean it blocks the cold coming under the Vans so any heating will not be lost. It helps block the wind from around entrances just giving enough protection. You are doing great but can I offer advice, next time you take us to outbuildings move the camera around slowly actually showing us what you are talking about rather than having the camera static, facing just you...💖💖🇦🇺

You describe it well, but would have loved to have you pan the camera more and see and explore around the outside and the inside of each building. The barn , cleaned up, would be a great event room for concerts, weddings, workshops, a craft fair where local artisans and vendors could set up booths to showcase and sell their wares.
