If we watch the way his father's death changes him, we see Hiccup become the chief his father could never have been. The loss of his father is what made hiccup the character we love and we wish we could be. Firm, yet humble, strong, yet friendly, honest, yet steadfast. Aye, this is the kind of person I would follow to the edges of the earth. The likes of which would make the great Ragnar Lothbrok proud. A true son of the old ways. A true son of the North. A true son of Stoick the Vast.
The weakest become the strongest through pain Don't let pain break you let it build you But don't become the evil If httyd were realife the line would be You have the heart of a chief/leader and a soul of the people
This is why I love Emotional Narrative. It helps enhance what you're watching so much that you feel it, it pulls emotions from you. Stoick's Ship makes me cry every time I hear it, and I'm 38. No shame.
Everyone hates stoick’s death. I do too. But there’s just something so poetic about how much it impacts Hiccup. Good and bad. This entire scene is both heartbreaking and one of my favourites. (Hear me out, that’s not what I meant) the change that hiccup has is amazing, and it’s so compelling to finally see him become the chief, a responsibility he’s been afraid to have but accepted. It hurts yes, but stoick didn’t die for nothing. This movie may be the darkest of the series, but I think the most heaviest. Actions have consequences. It’s apart of life. But your mistakes don’t define us. what defines us is how we learn from them.
Stoic's death and funeral scene is one of my favourite scenes in animation. You can see all the raw emotion and devastation that Hiccup feels on his face. It's a death that affects both his son and the members of his community and I love what the animators did here. They did a great job. That sort of raw emotion and devastation is barely seen in the Lion King animation (though you do feel the pain and grief of Mufasa's loss on Simba).
0:56 Listen to that build up and feel that drop wash over you like a powerful wave, you imagine the arrows swiftly moving towards the boat, to then create big flames of fire as they hit the wood.
All his young life, Hiccup just wanted to be like his father. A desire we can all relate to. It took him a long time to learn that he didn't have to. The village needed him exactly the way he was. But his growth was far from over. He still had more lessons to learn. It wasn't enough to be different from his father. He had to be better. The true burden of being a teacher, an elder, a parent, is that we are what they grow beyond. Despite his faults, Stoick was a good chief and a good king. He had the intense love and admiration of his people, a love he reciprocated for them. Hiccup didn't want to become chief because, in his own words, how could he possibly fill the shoes of someone nicknamed "The Vast?" Well, he couldn't. No one could. You see, Hiccup, after all this time, *still* didn't truly understand: he didn't have to be his father. He couldn't be. The only way for him to be chief, was to be himself. He just didn't realize that he could do it. Until he had to.
Weak will always become the strongest in the end because they went through the most pain but kept going The strongest of them all They kept going because You can only try
May the Valkyries welcome you, and lead you through Odin’s great battlefield. May they sing your name with love and fury, so that we may hear it rise from the depths of Valhalla, and know that you’ve taken your rightful place at the table of kings. For a great man has fallen. A warrior, a chieftain, a father, a friend.
His death made me cry so bad I loved httyd so much I am so upsessed with that and I felt like I was actually there when his death happened I 💔 😢 😔 😞 😫 😭

A Warrior, a Cheiften, a Father, a Friend." Hiccup: I'm sorry, dad, I'm not the chief you wanted me to be, and I'm not the chief I thought I was. How do you become someone that fearless, that selfless. Valka: "You have the heart of a chief and the soul of a dragon Hiccup: A Chief Protects his own.
