Wow, for a hater of blue you really made that look amazing! Your mastery of the contrast paints and blending them with traditional painting is always inspiring.
"It's looking a little bit heretic right now" :D :D :D. Are you saying that even the most true-blue of all of the Emperor's Finest have a tint of heresy underneath?
I love this series so much even though I don't really need it. The tuts you give out are probably the best overall and the fact you can make something look so good with such simple steps amazes me. Reminds of how artis opus does things, shows simple easy techniques for great looking minis.
I actually was wondering when you were going to do blue and how you were going to go about it. I had an idea of trying something really orange-brown as the undercoat to deepen the shadows, something like Snakebite Leather. Probably thinned down quite a bit. Do you think that would have a similar effect as your other videos using complimentary colors as the undercoat, like the green under the red for example?
@JuanHidalgoMiniatures if I ever find a free minute to paint again (it's been years...) I'll have to try it out mostly because I'm curious what the results would look like. I know I don't comment nearly as much as I used to and even miss a lot of videos any more but I appreciate you a lot Juan. You're one of the good people.
If you were to adjust this style of contrast, dry brush, contrast with the ability to use an airbrush to avoid the grainy look of dry brushing how would you do it because now that I have an airbrush I’ve really how much I dislike the grainyness if the dry brush for my personal models but I also love the colors I get with your recipes
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Mmmm, Gracias. Lo mismo entonces habría que usar menos medium en las verduras o partir de un gris un poco más oscuro que el grey seer.
It looks really nice. I'd love to see how the xpress paints look on larger miniatures such as tanks. I find that contrast paints aren't so good for larger miniatures
Hey Juan I don’t know what goes into this on the youtube backend but some more channels recently have been uploading their videos with options for quality in 1440p and 2160p and I was wondering if you could do that since it makes it so much easier when zooming in to see fine techniques like when you are dry brushing or absorbing the contrast paint
Hi! Sadly as I film 4k but edit in 1080p to be able to zoom in digitally, I can't really render in 4k as that will be upscaling and not sure if the quality will be good enough. I really wish I had a 8k capable camera but sadly that's not the case.
@ ah gotcha honestly I’ve found it useful on a lot of channels that have worse cameras than you since it mostly helps with the rendering as you zoom in on a video. A good example of a channel that i feel it really helps with is heretics & heroes
I’ve used the Vallejo Xpress Templar white over marine armour, and weirdly I’m typing this as you said the same thing, Xpress paints are fantastic over armour. I tried contrast and it looked awful unfortunately
I love your 'Zero Skill' series. They give me false hope 'hey, maybe even I could do it.' BTW, have you done a Zero Skill (gun)metal/steel by any chance? Was wondering if the Contrast-likes' 'metallics' (Like Starship Steel) are worth getting or should just get the 'read' metallic paints. Also, would love to see 'Zero Skill (millitary) Khaki' too. Happy Thanksgiving!
The next videos in the series are Zero Skill White and Zero Skill Raptors (because I can't find a better name for it lol) As for the Gunmetal/Steel I think I can do that! Maybe for the next episode.

I was litteraly wondering right now how would Juan paint his hated color. My God world is so small.
The secret is, Juan secretly loves blue 😉
Wow, for a hater of blue you really made that look amazing! Your mastery of the contrast paints and blending them with traditional painting is always inspiring.
I love zero skill such a fun series makes painting things quickly fun
That's the idea! Fun and clever processes with great results that also teach you about colour theory practically.
"It's looking a little bit heretic right now" :D :D :D.
Are you saying that even the most true-blue of all of the Emperor's Finest have a tint of heresy underneath?
Of course they do
Awesome video! I'll be using this video to figure out my army. Thank for always expanding the painting tool kit!
Thanks for watching!
Excellent work! What paints would you use for this technique if you were painting a Night Lord?
Probably the same but at different ratios. Pure purple or 1:1, with a very light drybrush of Greyseer and then maybe pure or very lightly diluted Blue
After so many months of waiting it finally happened! Amazing work.
Thanks
NOOOO WHAT HAVE YOU DONE ITS LIKE I DON’T EVEN KNOW YOU ANYMORE

This series stays absolutely goated
Thanks!
'here is how to build a flexspace table, oh and a quick blue tutorial ' 😂😅
LOL

For sure, but I wanted to do something different here

@srsgoblin thanks mate, I really appreciate that and it's always good reading you
BLUE!?
Well done :D
The Thanksgiving week holiday project i DIDNT KNOW I HAD. Thanks JH
Happy to help!
Ive been waiting for this one. Thank you!

Basically the same steps but you will need to do a recess shade as a final step.

I've done up to a Sentinel and looks amazing, for tanks I apply it with the Airbrush
Juan! Great video! Do you have a video on thinning paints? Or can you do one?
I have one!!
Cool as always, thanks for the video! I wanted to ask if purple shadows would work for lighter blues, like the space wolves?
Could be, you can always try! Some of this recipes need to be tested
Juan I need a video of your reaction for the new eldar reveals

I was hoping for the return of the "open in case of blue" flask from the previous Ultramarine tutorial.
So I don’t have the Vallejo range. What kind of product could I expect if I used leviathan purple and tallasar blue from citadel?
Not even close to this result, sorry
Shout out to whoever lent him the blue paints to make this video possible. Well done thar person
I can assure you I own no blue paints at all, they are all my partner's. Blue is her favourite colour. No, it's not a joke, it's a little fun fact.
Cool as always. 👍
Thanks!
They've got to Juan! This video's subject line is clearly his 'send help' code.
Joking aside. TY. Very useful information.
Thanks
I’ve used the Vallejo Xpress Templar white over marine armour, and weirdly I’m typing this as you said the same thing, Xpress paints are fantastic over armour.
I tried contrast and it looked awful unfortunately
The best Contrast type paint for Marines BY FAR
Picked up the Artify drybrush set after your last video, quality product!
It's amazing how good value for money it is

Blue? How dare you.
I thought the blue armor would be: take blue paints, toss away. Paint better color.
I was tempted
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Thought so! I do like the look of this. My second favorite Ultrasmurf "recipe" :)
Iam blue da bu di da budai
Was disappointed to see Juan actually paint it blue. If he can paint blue, how can any of us trust anything???
You can't, that's a life lesson right there.
But answering your initial premise, I was VERY drunk
🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮🤮
Sorry this was my knee jerk reaction to THAT color…..I guess some people can still learn to use it!
Stop it with zero skill.
Never!
