Hi love your videos ❤
KitbashCarnage hear at the age of 31 iv recently got back into the warhammer/kitbashing community agen after taking 15year brake to pay bills and so on .
I have taken the leap head on and started a youtube channel along with Instagram, Facebook and Tiktok. It's hard with this algorithm thing is somthing to get used to along with editing and so on but my love and the flame for my lost passion has been reignited more then ever and dont plan on stopping soon .
Along with having lots of content plans and already in the pipeline and also a Revamp to all social media with new header picture and profile picture from a digital contractor I sorced I hope to just gain more traction to the community iv came back to 🔥
Regards
KitbashCarnage
honestly, i see these on the same level as ak interactive's 3rd gen and the new army painter fanatic line and it feels like a real golden age for accessible, easy to use, good paints.
It is indeed
I agree. I haven’t used a ‘bad’ paint in a long time at this point.
I'd add ProAcryl to that list. We really are spoiled for choice these days.
@@dr_keenbean oh, absolutely!
(i only didn't mention them because their formulation is so different from the others but, honestly, they're just really fantastic paints.)
The fanatic line is soooo overrated! Their colour selection is horrendous
Love this review! Vallejo has become one of my favorites since I started painting, I do like the fact that evem when the paint separate on the wet pallet it's easy to remix them. Where as with GW paints it always seems like there a color shift when you have to remix them :) glad Vallejo updated their formulas where needed and made some great quality of life improvements
Yeah, to be honest they are FANTASTIC
Regarding the wash setting weird on the cape, I don't think that it's because of the wash itself. I had the same issue while washing a cape last week, while using a GW wash. I think the problem comes from the finish that game/model color has. My cape was painted with vallejo paints and when I applied the GW wash over, it did the same thing. My guess would be that the finish on these paints can be a bit hydrophobic which makes washes on large areas not be able to "stick" as much.
You actually might be onto something here! Good line of thought, I need to do some testing.
Thanks
Same. I applied them over glossier paints (citadel and Vallejo metals) and they behave as expected, with a great finish
Yeah, this was my thought as well as it also occurs when applying Xpress colors over a layer of Model/Game Color. I tried basing with pro acryl and then applying the Xpress over those and it worked fine. I went back and tried a third time by basing with new Game Color then airbrushing AK ultra matte before applying the Xpress layer and voila, it worked without the hydrophobia.
Super interesting. Thanks for sharing that
Best thing about Vallejo for me is that I can get Air, model, game, xpress and everything else 15min walk ( up a horrendous hill ) away. Always restocking as well. No other paints though as it's not really that type of store. So far loved all of the ones I have used. Not had bubbling issues stick on the model, I had it happen while pouring it out but they basically instantly went away. Great vid/review as usual
Thanks
Vallejo are the best!
They are certainly up there in the top
You are the first influencers I've heard actually mention the quality of the dropper bottles. I LOVE them. I feel like I waste way less paint squeezing out onto the palette versus harder-to-squeeze bottles like the pro acryl bottles.
YES
Love the OSL of that lantern!
Greetings from Switzerland. Scale modelling has been my hobby for over 50 years. I almost only paint with Vallejo colours and have never been disappointed. I don't know the new colours yet - but I will definitely use them because I trust Vallejo.
Thanks for the review Juan. Will surely pick up a few to try out.
Vallejo se ha convertido en mi marca de referencia y me declaro fan de las nuevas gamas
Gracias, maestro.
I will have to pick some when I come back to Spain for summer!
My pleasure
Great video, definitely love Vallejo next to ak AK 3rd generation in my paint collection, thanks for highlighting the new paints.
Thanks
Thx for the infos and sharing
Thanks for watching
I appreciate your mini rant about some pigments being more transparent. Not every paint needs to be super opaque, in fact that can be a negative for some techniques. When they add in white pigment to increase coverage they are losing saturation, look at the AP red line for a great example.
Exactly
I love them and they have earned a permanent home in my paint arsenal. I use multiple paint brands and these are near my main go to which basically means that I'm reaching for these most of the time. Thanks for the video brother!
Thanks for watching!
I've just used the Game Color Silver for chrome area on the landing gear of a model plane..very nice
It's FANTASTIC
That miniature is absolutely stunning! Well done! Especially with the lantern glow :)
Which was the brown colour you basecoated the cape with? The one darker than Leather Brown?
Camo Black Brown!
Thank you Juan, gotta start saving my pennys.
Happy to help
God damn, that model came out looking great!
Thanks
Great vid
Thanks
Great vid ^^
Thanks
Vallejo's Smoke color is great, their Transparent version makes painting large wooden areas on terrain super easy.
YES
Wow that OSL is 🔥
Literally
Vallejo really needs to work on the supply chain challenges they have here in NA.
Totally agree
Thanks for the review Juan. Always respect your opinion. I would love a box set with all the paints organised though - all mine are just in a box I have to sift through 😢
That would be amazing
You don’t have mention most important thing: are we able to lick the brush with safety?
Yes
model colour is my go to "greys" haha. Those metallics look soo good!
So many greys!
Any chance on seeing the new formulation Gunmetal Blue in action? It's going to be a fair while until I can actually get my hands on a bottle of it down here in Australia, and so far, I'm finding it very difficult to see real-world examples of it out in the wild. Only Stahly has shown it off (that I can find), but while his swatches are immaculately done, it's not always a perfect representation compared to a miniature. Help a guy out?
Hey, random question: do you have any tips on how to use spray cans in hot and humit climates like most of spain?
I just shake the can very well and spray it out of my window. I don't do anything special and I live in Madrid currently but I did the same in Bilbao too.
Get good quality cans, I like Vallejo and Ammo Mig
i really wish they had already started stocking this in Asia :(
Stocking the whole world is hard but they will manage
Try buying from European shops. The price is incredibly good.
@@thrrax the import tax though. There are some hobby retailers here but they won’t stock for another 4-5 months
I love Vallejo and love using them, but does it indicate anywhere which paints are more/less opaque or transparent? I'd rather know before buying a paint which one I should best pick up for blocking in/glazing.
That's actually a very fair question and the sad answer is no. I REALLY wish they added transparency indicators like art paints
Un análisis genial! Me gustaría saber si dentro de la gama de metálicos Vallejo hay alguna pintura similar a Retributor Armour, aunque sea mezclando.
El nuevo Latón de Model Color
A note on the washes: I got a similarly weird pooling effect when shading an old-formulation Drakenhof Nightshade from GW over VGC Steel Grey. It begs the question whether the problem lies with the shade or with the paint underneath 🤔
Good point. Another viewer suggested the same and I think some investigating might be on point
Thanks for the video, great as always, Juan!
Which color did you use on the back of the cloak as basecoat, which you washed later on?
Camo dark Brown
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I can only find German Camouflage Black Brown, 70822 - this one?
@@TheAkeris I just bought it and I think that is the one.
@TheAkeris yes
Great to see that Vallejo's new Model Color is excellent. Shame about the washes however. Their sepia wash does the same thing and even worse: it dries a bit glossy (or my pot did).
Damn, I need to investigate further
crazy there is no comments on the insane OSL on the inside of the cloak
Thanks 😊
I wonder if the reason the pigments seperating on the wet pallet is because of the water? They have their own thinner medium that the paint might be formulated to use in order to thin and remain in cohesion.
Yes but that's unavoidable using a wet palette
I really wanted to see your red combination. That red pops for how you painted it. What was your B.S.L. colors for that?
The whole mini was recorded as a masterclass and is being released right now on Patreon. Part 1 is there already and features the red parts.
I mostly use Vallejo. I'm fond of Xpress, being a beginner: they help so much to give basic shade and highlights without any efforts other than painting with them
Glad you liked them!
idk if I'm the only one having problems with the new game color range. The old ones work fine, but the new ones always come with a deadly amount of bubbles in it. I bought 2 bottles each according to my favorite old game colors, and now I can only use them for painting bases.
As you can see I use them perfectly well and have been for years. It's never been an issue for me but try using a softer brush (natural hair) and don't shake the paints. You don't really need to shake them at all.
I've been seeing many complaints about bubbles with the game color and the xpress. First bottle I tried of Game color bubbled
Planning to get the set of game colour (already have the older model colour set). Are the sets actually available yet? I can only find the individual paints for purchase.
Not yet but I know there are plans for that
hay what model is that need it for whq 95
Hanniver Toll from GW
Hey Juan, in like 6 months you should do a "best of" for the new formulation from Vallejo. After using a bunch of the colors if you find like a top 20 or top 50 and it will give folks, like me, a place to start and try some of the better paints in the set. Like Tenebrous Grey from AK is the best :P
Just an idea. Since us in this hemisphere don't get sets and have to order singles we could get the color choice we want based on recommendations.
Good idea
I mean, because of the problems with game color finish, and it has nothing to do with the preferences...it has been truly horrible and I left my comment in your last, very useful game color review....I can't even give model color a chance until I know Vallejo improves its formula. I hope they do. Until this change, they were my number one favorite paint company since ever. Now, I'm literally picking up Citadel and Army painter over them, and AK is now the favorite range. It is truly a shame. But again, than you for the review, as always.
Do they make a set or do you have buy them individually
Do you use the Metal Color line? Those have been the gold standard metallics for me in the market. When you say that game color silver is the best highlight on the market, does that include Metal Color silver and duraluminum?
Fellow haters of the Lou now? Who is Lou and why do we hate him?
I hate everyone
The previous range of Vallejo washes were similar, weren't they? They work well on really textured areas but they're pretty useless on anything remotely flat - and weirdly goopy. I never worked out what they were actually intended for, but I found a couple of them useable for glazing in shadows when diluted down a lot with glaze medium.
Some people suggested it's not caused by the wash but by the paint underneath. I need to investigate
Juan, cómo saber que colores completarian la gama game color sin analizar toda la gama? Tienes alguna recomendación?
Piensa en colores hueso, marrones, olivas y grises
Hi, Juan, how do the model colour metallics compare to the air series? Actually, same question regarding the game colour metallics. I directly went from GW metallics to the big Vallejo air metallic bottles and never looked back.
And how do the old reliables (Ice Yellow, Ivory, Pale Sand, etc) compare between the old and new model colours? They've been my go-to's whenever I need a brighter shade of a colour.
Personally, I hoped Vallejo would have gone the way of Army Painter with their flexible triads instead of three or more bsl combos for each colour, but that's just preference and the timing wouldn't have made sense anyway.
Hi,
Game Color metallics are the same as the Model Air ones.
Model Color metallics are completely new and similar to Scale75 but still EXCELLENT
All new versions of the paints are better than before and more consistent.
Any word on a US release? I hear Vallejo is not the best when it comes to announcing a release date for their new/updated lines. I need to get my hands on Ice Yellow, I swear it's sold out everywhere. Also wanted to mention that OSL, along with everything else on the mini) is stupid scary good. Fantastic job
They are working to solve the supply issues but it's not easy sadly
I have scarlet red from game color that I just bought to give them a try again. The coverage I found with the scarlet red was abysmally bad. Someone from one of a hobby store discord servers I'm in said that the new model color paints they bought to try were drying shiny for them. I didn't have that issue with the game color paint I was using. I will say, the flow from the brush is quite good, comparable to Pro Acryl and AK for me.
Red has a bad coverage for every brand
This is honestly just red in general. Yellow and white are very similar. Takes multiple coats to really get a nice red, yellow or white
That's just red, as I say in the video some pigments are transparent and trying to circumvent that turns them desaturated and dull
Scarlet red is more of a pure red, these kind of colours are always less opaque.
How are the dark/wine reds and magentas?
Both excellent. Specially like Evil Red and Nocturnal Red, some of the best paints ever made
How does the durability feel? The old model colour paint had a bad habit of coming off while i was painting. I got round this by using satin varnish as a save point but it would be nice to not need to do this. I never had this problem with the game colour paints so if they are both similar now that would be great
Paints feel durable now but it's also true that I don't game with them
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I varnish for game play I just need them to stay put while I am painting the model
I'm trying to find where to buy these in the US for especially the new line of game color and model color as well as the express colors but in the US it seems to be a hard product to find especially down in Florida does anyone know of a store in the Miami Florida area that might carry this
Not certain about miami…just there not long ago btw. Michigan toy soldier (online) you can easily order all the new Vallejo paints.
For me Im picky with metalics. Im a big fan of vallejo metal color series. I know they are going to have a new formula.
The good part of my work flow is that vallejo metal color series and alclad 2 have good combination.
I wish that vallejo metal color series range would have a rich gold and not the green kind. I can work arround that by doing the gold recipy of vince venturela, but i really wish they could do that. They have it on the alcool médium but is inconvenient.
Vallejo model color is my go to in non metalics and will still BE!
#alwaysvallejo
Nice review. I have seen some people complaiing about bubbles in these paints when you shake them a bit too vigorously. That wouldn't be a problem on its own, but allegedly, the new polyurethane medium makes popping them quite hard and it can even "trap them" in the paint on the model.
I assume you would have mentioned it in the vid if you encountered this fenomenon during the test, but I will ask anyway
The only time I saw people really running into that issue is when they put ungodly thick layers that when they start levelling, the bubble won’t pop. Generally it’s more of an skill issue, but still, something to keep in mind
I never encountered it, not now and not during all the time using Game Color
Not even during my Masterclasses with students using them
@@Elfhelm I've been running into this issue with the new Game Colors, and I assure you, I did not apply "ungodly thick layers". I used them like I use every other paint brands I use (Citadel, ProAcryl, AK 3rd Gen, Duncan Rhodes TTC, old Vallejo Model Color). Never had this issue with other brands/paint ranges.
@@karpnado5447I use new Game Color too and see no issues like that - I do however, use vortex mixer instead of shaking the old way
@@Elfhelm Most people don't seem to run into this issue (I'm glad you enjoy these colors). Out of the 6 new Game Color bottles I purchased 2 bubbled and left visible holes on the surface of the mini (Steel Grey and Tan), there is definitely something wrong with them. The best explanation I can think of is that there are bad batches of these paints, but I sincerely hope Vallejo addresses this at some point.
Using them for quite some time, excellent paints, use them alongside AK's 3rd gen.
Here in Russia AK and Vallejo are historically more available and you can find them in any hobby shop.
Tamiya and Mr. Hobby are even more available, but they are for scale models, very hard to paint a mini with 🙂
Personally, I was using Vallejo acrylics since mid 90s and never had any issues, like them a lot.
P.S. Maaaan, that OSL is nuts. I was experimenting with OSL, which I never painted before and it always looks like shit 😂
Thanks! The whole video will be available for my Patreons. Part one is already out.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Heh, I would gladly subscribe, but my money is not good enough for your payment systems, so I can't pay for anything 😁
@FreelancerND oh crap that's true! I forgot about that, that sucks mate.
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures Naaah, we have UA-cam ads permadisabled too ))
To be honest, it sucks that I can't support the content creator I like, yeah, but in general day to day life it's barely noticeable.
If they are intended to be symbiotic, why they are two different lines and not one?
What makes them different?
Just the colour selection. One has paints more focused for fantasy and the other more grounded and military paints
I really wanted to love Vallejo but I couldn’t take the bubbles issue anymore as it ruined so many minis. Warpaint fanatic doesn’t have this issue so I know the issues isn’t on my end and lots of people have this same issue with the new Vallejo formula with bubbles drying and not popping and leave holes in your paint job. Such a shame as I love Vallejo as a company. Hopefully ones day they will re-release a version 2 of the formula to correct the issue
Skill issue 😢
There are for sure some bubbles, but if they transfer on your minis you apply the paint way to thickly.
I have the intuition that you are somehow related with the Vallejo brand, so I will understand if you don't answer, but I am curious... how good can be the results mixing just a non pigmented Yellow, Magenta, Cyan, Black and White? I don't mean archieving professional results, but should be "fine" for just enjoying the hobby and have a good time?
My only relation with them is collaborating with the creation of the Xpress range and thus attending conventions with them. I'm not a Vallejo employee at all and I don't answer to anyone in the company.
Now to answer your question. You can most definitely do that and have a good time, you surely have enough examples in the range that are pure enough to do this reliably. That being said I still encourage you to get some secondary tones like a pure red, a nice green, purple etc. Also if that's what you are looking for I suggest looking into Kimera or the new Mindwork Studio KS I announce in this video as they are more aligned with that line or work.
But again, if you want to do that with Vallejo you most definitely can
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures I have the Kimera! I can't wait to start with my hobby, but somehow I always find an excuse not too, I think I am afraid of goofing it (I am confident this fears will vanish when I start painting...)
Good to know we can talk about any brand in this channel, I was afraid it was sponsored by a specific company...
I will definitelly get more colours. There is an emerald green by Green Stuff World that IMHO will look terrific on my Votanns.
Thanks for the quick reply, it reassured me, I was afraid of starting painting just to realise that I was not going to get anywhere with just 5 colours.
@juanignacioayalarico9410 happy to help!
And start painting! You are going to enjoy it
Vallejo paints review - Starts with advertising different brand of paints. 😂
Here in my local store, Vallejo is 1.9$ per bottle. Nothing beats this, unless you wanna buy the fancy expensive stuff like Citadel and the rest of the stuff.
I have to eat 😂
¿Te has planteado hacer alguna vez videos en castellano?
Sorry if I missed it in your review, but are the Game Colour paints less satin with this new formulation? The matte finish of Model Colour is what drew me to that line over the years; hoping this is the case with Game Colour now too.
Yes, exactly as Matt as Model Color as they are essentially the same paints
@@JuanHidalgoMiniatures fantastic to hear, as most (if not all) of my current Game Colour droppers are about 10 years old at this time :-D (still work WELL though!)
@@JBCougarthat is basically what brought me to Vallejo in the first place. I throw away more citadel paints in my life than I can count.
@@kueppe I tend to agree. These days, I find I use shades/washes and Contrast paints from Citadel way more often than their actual paints. The shades, especially, are still top notch for the tasks I need them for.
More new paints....my wallet is screaming in horror. I also just backed the fluid Kimera 😅
Lol, I feel you
You didn't experience the bubbling that every other reviewer commented on?
Juan, you could take the worst paint ever made and still your models would look amazing!
Washes have never been Vallejo's strongpoint, in fact I'd say they're some of the worst on the market. Never use them.
Agree
