Angry Video Game Nerd (AVGN) episode 190: Fear and Loathing in Vegas Stakes. The Nerd has set out to Last Vegas with his trusted attorney to review some of the worst games imaginable... in a parody of the book/film Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas. The Nerd reviews Vegas Stakes (SNES), Vegas Dream (NES), Caesar's Palace (GEN), Road Runner's Death Valley Rally (SNES), and of course the heaviest trip of all... LSD Dream Emulator (PS1).

Ok :D
James Rolfe as Hunter S. Thompson? Maybe? I look forward to it.
Hey James, you should review the GBA version of Spongebob battle for bikini bottom, I'll say that it's very different

They would never arrive. Poor bast@rds.

Love how they brought back the Coleco Triangle console just to use its realistic Light Gun.
One of the best console guns ever
How the heck did I miss this episode? AVGN and Fear and Loathing are two of my favorite things, and here they are, together.
Somehow I also missed this episode until today.
@@lamarckleland5731 Somebody mentioned this on the Indiana Jones episode, and here I am. This is the best AVGN in years, and it's 2 years old. How did that happen
Not enough love for this one
i remember watching this episode the day it was uploaded.
roomie and i had a blast watching this. always love coming back
Also missed this episode, for some reason. Since I haven't watched the movie they are parodying here, I have to say I don't get it anyways. 🤷♂️
The fact Spiderman was the hitchhiker and Tobey Maguire was the hitchhiker in the movie is the attention to detail you don't get too often.
Spiderman pff. Doesn't even have a utility belt, for utilities. One would think I would have named it something better..
I was about to say that but you beat me to it.
Huh. Wonder why Noone points him out in seabiscuit...
Then again, I never watched it myself...
we did, back in the old times. back then people put things like that into movies and movies were entertaining and not preachy lol
So The Collector is driving a car. Jack Sparrow is in the passenger seat, and Spiderman's in the back, when the Collector says, "It's alright! I'm just admiring the shape of your skull!"

i wonder if James knows what he is talking about. He did reference it quite a bit

I rarely comment on UA-cam videos, but this one James did is his best work ever. An absolute masterpiece. Truly his opus.
This is absolutely the best parody I have ever seen. Too angry to live. Too nerdy to die.
They picked up Spiderman because in the movie it was Toby Mcguire. Beautiful.
Love the reference

So freaking great man!
Funny video but still a badly done review.
Not to mention how many times he mispronounced Lans Henriksen.
This video is far from is best.
I've never seen fear and loathing and I think this was a trip and a half. Even if I have just watched it.
This AVGN video was what convinced me to watch it, I can't even tell which one is the best, the original or the AVGN parody

Just giving Spider Man a lift instead of trying to imitate Tobey Maguire from the movie was a genius idea!
It took me a minute to get that haha

I'm terrified to know that officially graded sealed copies of Jekyll and Hyde exist
To me, a sealed copy of Jekyll and Hyde makes me feel comfortable knowing souls have been spared.
The seal is there to keep the wretched souls in it from escaping. Supposedly.
they should be sealed, and carried to a storehouse, never again to darken the shelves of another gamer's NES collection.
It's kind of the same feeling you get when thinking about that there are still samples of smallpox locked away in two labs.

Man, I can feel James having fun making this one.
Death Valley Rally...Is that...Up your alley?
every once in a while, James' passion for cinema breaks into the nerd reviews, lol.
I think James has fun with every Episode of AVGN! He is such an Original!
You can tell he had fun making this one ? Or did you actually feel the fun during production?
@@MrSlicktherick the whole AVGN-Thing is a Product of Fun
It's amazing how familiar this episode felt, just from having seen Fear and Loathing once. That is a great movie, and this is a great homage. A brilliant and fun mash up!
This was really amazing. Only thing missing was a scene with Dr. Gonzo in the bathtub wanting Nerd to turn on Jekyll & Hyde when White Rabbit peaks.
This feels more like an avgn celebration video than a standalone one.
Sometimes, the nerd himself needs to take himself back to the past.
Honestly, it's been 15 years since he's been on UA-cam, so, maybe?

Should totally do it.
From someone actually old enough to get all these references. You nailed it.
Man, I love Fear and loathing, you knocked this out of the park! 👌
This was WAY more than just the movie parody/game review combo I was anticipating. It was almost like an AVGN series finale. When he was talking towards the end about what life was like being a gamer and experiencing those now retro games when they were new... I legit started getting emotional.
This video is a masterpiece. Moreso than the book
Agreed. This is up there with the Megaman series review.
Every year or so he does an episode like this, that feels like a bookend. Examples include his Mega Man DOS video or Earthbound.
Wow... It was the cleanest, best pleasure.
I got a sense of sadness knowing that sum day they will b a final episode of avgn
Depp spent months preparing for this role.
James spent his whole goshdarn life.
This ep was a work of art. Beautiful work James and crew
This is brilliant on so many levels. This video was such a joy to watch 😂
No matter how old I get, AVGN always brings me back to a time when entertainment on UA-cam was high quality and simple
Same
Same goes for me
Back before the puritans and corporate media pressured the cowards running the site to bow the mob.
I love the way out of all the 'OG youtuber' those who didnt follow genres they made them. James has outlasted a fair few fads. his original style of filming is like a fine wine, it seems to get more potent withh age XD. those hour long season videos are like my white noise. i put it on when im doing dishes or folding washing etc.
It still is.....here.
I remember playing Vegas Stakes on a hotel tv while my parents were at a casino. Thinking about it now, the irony is amazing.
That's not ironic.

Nothing is more deprived than a man in the depths of an R-Zone Binge
You're exceeding yourself with every pop culture parody, you've come a long way from beating up Bugs Bunny.
much like video games have evolved, so too has the nerd
That was an important part of UA-cam history, top ten anime battles
Beating up Bugs Bunny was awesome, still is actually
The bugs, Joker, and Cowardly Lion skits are among James’ GOTs
it's impossible not to love such episode. It might be one of the best of AVGN, and it's rather unique, besides there were other episodes that parodies other media, this one, for me, does it best, and it seems James loved doing it, which's great.
I gotta say, James hunter s Thompson impression is quite solid
Surprised the "desert bus" didn't make an acid flashback appearance
Me and my mate completed Vegas Stakes when we were about 11 and amused ourselves when the game asks you what your dream is, we answered "To fu*K a frog". Immature we know but we never laughed so hard in our lives at the end credits.

Also, can we get a full version of the song at the end of the video?
5:22 The toilets are, well... toilets. You drop turds in, pull the lever and see what happens...
I love how the nerd doesn't end up reviewing casino games like how Hunter doesn't end up going to the derby in the movie!
and he does go to the desert race in the movie lol
He was definitely at the Mint 500. Remember the scene where he pours his beer out and it's all dirt? Or getting in the car with the photographer that says "We need TOTAL COVERAGE" then Duke fires him?
Well at least he made it there
He didn‘t seem to care a lot about the race though
He does go to the race.
"Editing: James Rofle. " That and the whole episode is a masterpiece.
This episode is so unorthodox and that's why I love it. Love him or hate him, James knows how to push boundaries and keep it fresh. People say his content got soft but I don't see it. He's done great with keeping things interesting.
One of the most surreal episodes. A shame he has not gone more in depth to some of these games, but this was great fun.
11:31 this had to be one of my favorite references.
That ending speech was absolutely beautiful. Moments like that really show how the Nerd isn’t just about being angry, and is a much deeper character than his usual behaviour would have you believe.
This video is why I still watch AVGN. I love it when you get an episode that is a little out of the ordinary. This was a fun journey of an episode.
same here man
Fun journey... Or a fun trip :)
That Axl Rose reference was astonishing.
I can't believe James actually got Johnny deep to take up his old role just for a AVGN episode true talent right there.
There is not a single creator on planet Earth that could possibly have done a better crossover between video games and Fear and Lothing. This is pure gold.
This made me want to see the movie (also his review vid too)
I've seen this movie probably 100 times, it was spot on lol
A fear and loathing AVGN Parody episode? Count Me In.
Considering the subject of the video, should be "deal me in." 😛

this is by far the best AVGN episode. I died at over 35 copies of ET.

That silent Bob and Jay segment!
Now this is how you write off a trip to Vegas as a business expense.
"You place your bets on Jaws, Friday the 13th and Back to the future when chances are you are going to roll CRAPS!!"
Genius!!!
The ending bit really did make me emotional. Very grateful that you do this, not just for the entertainment, but to capture the feeling and memories that give the full story of what this bygone Era was all about. When we are all dead these videos will be the missing link to put our childhoods in context.
Long live the Nerd!
Im really struggling with if I wanna say this was the best episode you ever made or ONE of the best episodes you ever made. You got so many classics with great skits. But this, this was just different. This is like the same gratifying experience I got from the games and movie. 10/10 James, truly.
No its episode 100 is way better
it's kind of crazy how much James looks like Johnny in that costume. Overall though, this was spectacular. A great tribute to Fear and Loathing.
His acting was absolutely superb. He nailed it
Johnny,
Spider-Man has really let himself go since last time.
He missed the part where that's his problem
He didn't stick to the local brew.
He ate too much and took too many dumps in coffee cans.
That must be Peter B. Parker.
19:15 I was expecting to see "You're winner"

Don't be mean.
For me it’s second behind his performance in Polybius.
10:07 - I feel like you missed a joke here about Mario being his own plumber.
I never had a favorite episode until I watched this one.
Putting Pat's Guide to the NES Library in there among all the trash was such a savage move
Yes
That wasn’t meant to be looked as trash dude, james and Pat are friends
Not gonna lie the ending speech was surprisingly thoughtful.
I also won’t lie, little choked up.
it's not often you can make a poignant speech that includes 'road turds' in it, but james pulls it off.
Rewatching this episode after going through some of his other best acted avgn episodes.
This is the best along with breaking the tradition of a normal avgn episode also once again James shows off great physical acting presentation rather than beating someone up like bugs bunny.
Awesome work james.
It's a shame Kyle Justin didn't play Spiderman 🤣
This deserves some kind of award! I’m glad there’s still true creators on this platform
Totally agree this is one of the best

That after all these years, James and co. can still put out some their best work yet. It is truly wonderful to watch.
Despite what you’re referencing, this gives me strong 90’s TV show vibes. Feels like something that should be on MTV
The ‘90s definitely had a bit of a psychedelic revival for a minute there so it makes sense. Even in music, dream pop type groups like Mazzy Star come to mind.
Im suprised at how well Janes mimics Dukes mannerisms
Either James is way more serious a collector than I thought, or he is so dedicated to the bit that he genuinely bought an original copy of LSD for that one shot of the disc. If you don't know, physical copies of LSD are worth over £500 each. It's one of the rarest PS1 games of all time
As a Hunter S. Thompson fan, I am in awe. Best episode you ever made.
