    idk if you have your truck charging your battery's or not but its simple to do all you need is 16 ft of 4 gauge wire OFC and like 3 to 6ft of 4 gauge ground wire just go from the front of your truck and bolt the positive 4 gauge to the back of your alternator straight to the battery's than use that 3 to 6 ft of ground wire and ground that to any type of earth and your rocking and rolling so anytime you drive they charge plus this would make it simpler and simpler most gas powered cars and trucks use less than $10 of fuel idling for 12 hrs ya getting out of the camper sucks but you can also invest in a remote car start they will only run 15 to 30 mins what ever timer you put it on than it will shut off

    Hey, I have your camper. I mounted a little buddy heater on the wall and put an adapter hose through the wall into the propane compartment. Awesome modification. Keeps it way warmer than furnace and I don't have to use battery for heat. I have a heated mattress pad because I don't use it at night. I suppose a vented diesel heater would be a good mod too for overnight use in really cold temps.

    Those are some really cold temps to be camping in. We have a 4 season Oliver and I can't Imagine spending the night in that temp. Your outdoor shower will definitely need a new mixing valve without the antifreeze in it. It was awesome that you had a friend come out and help. Keep the vids coming. Cheers from a fellow Canadian spending the winter in the SoCal Desert.

    I lived alone on a ranch in northern Alberta for four years in the 70s and the house had a propane furnace and huge tank outside; you know what happens when the temp drops below - 40!! No heat. also the water froze in the pumphouse. I drained some hot water from the hot water tank in the house to pour down the well and lit a fire under the 1000 gallon propane tank. I don't recommend that but it was that or freeze hahaha

    Also, i eould take reflectic and tuck tape and insulate the propane compartment, then stick a 40 w trouble light in there plugged into generator. Will keep propane lines from cooling down.

    I would like to give a couple of pieces of advice. I installed antifreeze heating, engine oil heating, automatic transmission oil heating and battery heating for my marriage. All of this works from 110V. So yes, you need a small generator. Plus you can buy electric heaters for the camper. While the generator is working.

    23:00, GET BOTH !! You need a redundant secondary heat source. I have a buddy heater incase my propane heater shits the bed. Pick your poison but have 2 sources of heat. Ya; buddy heaters are non vented, cause condensation and such but anything is better than a 20 degree atmosphere in your living space. Look up "Truck-house life" Timothy has a wood stove in a camper much smaller than yours!! I am seriously thinking of doing the same, though I am only a weekend warrior and keep an apartment, it would still be nice to forage wood from the forest and heat my camper FREE. Forest Forest youtuber does this in a chevy 2500 VAN!! Over 20,000 BTU's, That'll work !!

    Fuck man, I rode this weather out in the Columbia Valley, we got to minus 38ish and mid 30s for the whole week. This is the first time in 5 years that I crumbled and plugged my diesel into the grid to run the block heater. That was quite the week. I keep a kerosene heater for backup to my propane system. Combined 30,000 btu's. I keep the propane tanks in my bathroom where they are at room temperature ( with the door open) or well over freezing with it shut. This keeps the propane going strong. I use the kerosene heater just to crank up the heat. At minus 38, I had to shut down the kerosene when the inside temperature approached 40c. My fridge was warming up when the outside temp was in the mid minus 30s! Lol
    Watch out with using the stove top burners... the co2 ppms jump up pretty damn quickly.

    Minus 40 is rough on anything, especially flesh. I'm going to try to sum up the video to help me remember things.
    Lessons that I got from your video: replace vehicle batteries after 4-5years, or at first sign of issues. This probably extends to alternator as well. It's winter, solar is not giving you any real power. Generator may not work well at -40 unless it's rated for it. Get an engine pre-heater that's rated to -40 if you think you need it. Don't die to add drama for a youtube video ;-p

    I have a 96 -1500 Bigfoot,on a F350 flatbed.I latefall hunt for weeks at a time.Down to -20 f but mostly 10-20 F.Winterize,have two 5 gal water jugs in bath.Run camper heat on way to camp, pre warms area.For evening I mounted a wave 3 I think it is on cabinet door under sink, I swing it towards bunk and put a big can of chili to keep it there.I also have a Honda 2000 in a undercount box, wire is zip tied to and I made a small exhaust out of box and open door of box to run.When at camp and colder I run gen and main furnace for dinner and hr or so.I also have the jumper cables for gen to charge as back up.And I also have a small 5 # tank with top mtn heater and point under truck if real cold to start, would like a preheater like on your truck, might add that.I usually have a tow rig with me too, so I can usually get one to start and use to start other, or I can use my block heater off my generator.Also starting fluid as last resort and ruin diesel additive.I run 2'' foam in all windows and vent for then and have 1'' underbed and under camper.Seal all cracks with spray foam.My solar 120W usually keeps my batteries good if I park out of timber, 2-big 6V golf cart

      NOT Trudeau’s Canada ! It’s our Canada, every single one of us. We vote, and sometimes some people don’t approve, but it’s a democratic system. Try moving to Europe, or Asia. And prices are driven up by capitalism, that nasty thing that drives the economy. People and corporations trying to increase their net worth. We use all year round Shell Rotella T6 Full Synthetic 0W-40 Diesel Engine Oil. You have no problem engine turn over. I do have a block heater for overnight parking. The next thing is your diesel fuel. You need to use something like Hot Shot's Secret Diesel Winter Anti-Gel. Some people use additive in their diesel heater from gelling.
    For wind chill factor, I use a cover on the grill all winter. To keep from battery damage on the truck, I have solar panel hook up with victron charger to the batteries. My original batteries lasted 7 years, I replace both at the same time. Recommended to do so.
    Covering propane & lines with foam insulation helps. We never had propane failure when we camp at -40c. Over all try to park where you get the least wind blowing.
    take care @simplyoffgridlife

    • @SimplyOffGridLife
      @SimplyOffGridLife Рік тому

      With that oil, you never see it turn over slow. Fast spin. Only issue would be your diesel fuel, it will sputter even with diesel additive but shorter period. Currious about your engine coolant diesel heater, great for offgrid heating of truck. What the brand, where is mounted. I assuming it mounted near the engine and what are you using for fuel line. Sound like, fuel gel lines. Covering it with foam insulation, protect it from windchill should help a lot. Thanks... alex. @simplyoffgridlife@@KevinWaldsAdventures
