Thank you for pointing out that “bug out bags” don’t necessarily need to be for SHTF situations. I watch a ton of prepper videos and like the idea of BOB but just seemed silly…until my daughter went into preterm labor and was airlifted from New Mexico to Texas and we were all driving like crazy people to get there as close to the same time as she did. We didn’t have so much as a hairbrush with us. I spent A LOT of money getting every little thing we needed. Not anymore! I have a bag in both vehicles with all of the bare necessities now!
yes, there are many reasons why you might need to leave in a hurry and it is certainly helpful if you have your things ready to go. many people insist that they will stay home and don't need a bug-out bag, but I askif your house is on fire will you leave and walk out the door or stay inside? Everyone should have an emergency grab bag.
Yes. Thank You. I fell in December 2021. I had medical complications and was lifelined to my state capital where the medical school is located. I had nothing. The hospital had a food shortage. I have allergies so I could not use the hospital hygiene supplies. I had to rough it in the hospital. Turkey dinner was on the menu 2 days a week but there was no turkey. Turkey dinner was just a bowl of mashed potatoes. I had to use salt packets to clean my teeth the rest I could. I got released and started building a bag that carries my needed supplies. I refuse to be in that situation again. I keep Jack's Links with cheese sticks. I have ranch tuna packets and crackers. I have fruit snacks as well as my favorite Life Savers. I keep my supplies in a big multi pocket diaper bag. I rotate my food supplies in my bag so it does not go bad. I am ready just in case.
We store the small size packages of the smallest size flour tortillas in our freezer. There are even zero carb Keto versions of flour tortillas. One of these frozen packages of flour tortillas can be dropped into a small backpack along with some packets of StarKist tuna salad or chicken salad early in the morning before heading out on a day hike or actually bugging out on foot. When it is time for a lunch break, the tortillas will have thawed and can be spread with the tuna or chicken salad to make sandwich wraps. These wraps feel much more like a real meal than having tuna or chicken salad on crackers. We also bring along washed whole carrots and small oranges or small washed apples (one per hiker) because we usually have these whole foods at home anyway. This gives us the equivalent of a no-effort salad and a light dessert on the trail. And raw carrots and raw small fruit usually cost less per serving than packaged, dry vegetable and fruit snacks.
I've gone on so many camping trips, I can pack in under 5 minutes and be out the door. Your DIY MREs are an excellent tool for an emergency. And don't forget the chocolate.
I keep food in my purse and car. Sometimes, I just can't eat in the morning or we are out longer than expected or have an unexpected wait, and I really need something, especially if I need to take medication. Dollar Tree is a good help.
After experiencing the last 3 days w/o power due to Michigan ice storm, I’m glad I prepared w a generator & quick foods that were ready to eat. It definitely made my days less stressful. 👍
I started giving bug out bags to relatives “Little cheap draw string back packs, with snacks and small flashlights.” Though I thought it was a great gift I was pleasantly surprised by their happy responses. Even my niece who stoped over on her move from Colorado to Michigan really loved the one I prepared for her. Now thanks to the whistle lesson I’m going to start packing whistles and dollar tree rain panchos in the new bags I put together. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻 Praying everyone makes it home ok
Thank you so much. I never kept a BOB because everything I saw made it so overwhelming...like you would have to fight off an invading army, kill and cook a bear, perhaps have to do surgery, and build a shelter. I just never made one. This was a very, very valuable video. I do think if most people personally need one, it will be for many of the reasons you mentioned. I don't think you know how many people you are helping and encouraging. Thank you, Miss Alaska Granny!
Ms. Judy you are very right in the fact that it can be overwhelming. But what's nice about AG's videos is she breaks it down in simple steps so it can be achieved over time. Besides, we're all in this together so, let us know what you found at your local stores and good hunting. 🤗
I don’t want to bug out but I might need to get home so my bag is usually set up with a seasonal change of clothes, my hiking poles, an emergency bivy sack ($15), a small sleeping pad, a knife, matches, a lighter, some small candles, my meds, 72 hours of food, some water and a water filter. I live in the desert in Nevada, about 35 miles from my doctor’s office and Costco. My back is very messed up with vertebral fractures and I would be happy to be able to walk 5 miles a day! My every day driver is a self built camper van and I have it ready to go camping any time!
Good tips, maybe include a pair or two of scissors to open the packets in case they don't open easily. Need water and maybe a few cups as well to take along. I know you probably have done a grab and go for Teddy so might be good to hear what you put in your grab and go bag for a pet.
This is such a good idea, not only for a major or minor emergency, but as a way to protect your budget. It's SO tempting to grab some fast food when you're out running errands. Having that MRE in the car can take the edge off your hunger and save you some $$. Thanks, AG. ☺
Thanks for the reminders. I need instant tea and coffee stashed in the car. As soon as freezing weather is gone i will have other beverage options for the vehicles.
My wife liked those little "tuna kits" . Haven't had any for a while. Calorie dense items are very wise for emergency food. When things are getting tense, pure rocket fuel in a compact kit is what you want in your vehicle or back pack.
Excellent ideas. I explained the idea of making our own buckets for grab n go purposes to my oldest daughter and she was thrilled with the idea. So this is very practical as well so I'm going to start focusing on doing this. I need to replace some of my pantry anyhow. So I can add this to my DT list.
Great suggestions, I started making these and taking them with us everywhere we go! A small plane had to land on the interstate just a few miles away one day. No injuries thankfully, but the interstate was at a standstill for several hours! Weird things happen and we just never know what we'll face! Thank you sharing with us! Stay healthy!
I keep the rubber jar grippers in my glove compartment, in case I need some leverage in opening jars or bottles. Also napkins in a plastic bag are handy to have. Great video..Thanks, Alaska Granny!
Great video. Not sure if dollar tree has this but you can get individual packets of instant coffee and even 3in1 which is coffee, sugar and creamer. Very handy.
And the rule of 3’s: you can survive 3 minutes without oxygen, 3 days without water, 3 weeks without food, and three hours after getting up in the morning without coffee!!! 🤣😂😝
I wish our Dollar Tree had some of those goodies. You've created another good segment to watch. I've got my list of items to hunt next time I'm at Dollar Tree. If I don't use a list I'm afraid I'll come out with nothing but jars of olives and jelly. 🤗
I keep 3 Bob hooked to headrest and made sure my husband had a fully pack Bob for when he was a truck driver sure came in handy for him as also driving across country especially when he had to drive to Canada and Alaska
This has been a great motivation for me to finally get our bug out bags packed! I was feeling so overwhelmed, but this video with products found at the Dollar Tree has given me the incentive to just do it! Thank you so much!
You have the best ideas. Have you ever done an emergency bag for a pet? I am trying to put together something for my cat. I would love to see any idea you have in a video. Thanks
Thanks for the reminder about these simple snacks, you've got a great selection there. I'm shopping today, so will get some more.👍 TFS AG, take care & keep really busy everyone. ❤🙂🐶
Great video! It would be helpful to mention "Shelf" life for each of the prepper foods, that way we have some idea of how long these can sit in our "Go Bag". According to a general search, the Brunswick Chicken don't last all that long (A little over 2 months according to one source) which I find hard to believe since a can of tuna in my cupboard can be a year old or more and be fine. I subscribed to your channel after watching this and I look forward to more videos!
Mine are good until December 2023... So I think mine were a year shelf life. Just opened one up last night for a kid who wasn't that hungry for dinner. Still good and he liked it.
Awesome video as always very helpful ❤, but I do have some questions regarding one of you're videos and was hoping to get you're personal opinion and advice, but as always awesome video, stay awesome and cute 🔥❤
Not necessarily found at Dollar Tree, but I include items such as Cliff Bars, Granola Bars, bottled water, a peppermint or butterscotch hard candy, jerky, individual bags of pretzels, nuts, raisins, Slim Jim beef stick, sardines, condiment packets, a few paper napkins, Vienna Sausages, etc. So much variety. 😎👍🏻
This is really a great idea and I've have been thinking about having something in my car recently with all the explosions and train derailments. There are train tracks within a mile of where I live and I always loved listening to the trains so it never bothered me. A little different now isn't it?
I have the flavored chicken and tuna packets paired with different uncle Ben ready rice pouches. I was able to get a lot of MRE heaters one will heat up both packages.
I know this is off topic. I am scared to plant outside this spring because of the chemical spills in Ohio. I am in Western KY and receive water from the Ohio River. In Louisville they are already speaking of consequences to the event. Any advice you could give would be helpful.
That's a legitimate concern. Boiling water doesn't necessarily remove all contaminants, just kills the living ones. Bottled water has a very long shelf life. It's important to have plenty to drink. Catching rain water is possible. It hasn't been contaminated yet.

Wow, scary times. I hope all turned out well for your daughter and grandchild. I agree, SHTF doesn't have to be global, it can happen just to us!!

Moms-to-be almost always have a BOB when the time comes. We can learn from that.

I agree....DIY MREs is a great idea. I've put some together but I really like her idea of buying some multi-paks and splitting them up. 👍
Just realized my wife and I both subscribed to your. Hannel on our own channels without realizing it. I saw what she was watching and started laughing
I keep a bag like that in my desk at work for the times I forget my lunch.

I use the rubber tourniquet that medical personnel use for blood draws. Very small and easy to tuck in a corner of your bag.
Great video.
Not sure if dollar tree has this but you can get individual packets of instant coffee and even 3in1 which is coffee, sugar and creamer. Very handy.
We always collect those when we go to a hotel and I have them saved up and vacuum sealed 🤗🙏 Kendra
