Another seafood is canned mackerel in brine, boil down the brine then add the mackerel to heat it up for a sandwich or add to pasta. Also keep canned salmon on hand as prefer it over tuna.
Also for canned goods, keep an old fashion hook shaped can opener on hand (common on swiss army knives), especially handy if the lip of a can is dented and the wheel can opener jumps over a spot.

As much as I am amazed by you, and you are my mentor, I worry about you.
Your husband was obviously a great influence on you.
As a grandmother, it bothers me a lot.
How did your husband passing away affect you personally?
While I have a lot of love for you and your son (and DIL), and your grandchildren, I must ask this question.
How are YOU feeling in this moment?
I know you are keeping a brave face.
Please, lease, my lovely sister, keep smiling and shining your light.

I found canned shrimp on the east coast. It says medium but they are tiny and not as firm as they used to be. I used to make a stuffed mushroom recipe with them and they were nice. Now they are quite delicate so they fall apart when you use them. That said a shrimp quesadilla or shrimp in a cheese or Alfredo sauce works with these. A change of pace as I do not enjoy other canned fish besides tuna.

I laid in a number of Vienna sausages because 1) kids like them, (I got a number of chicken ones) and 2) men like them and they would be easy and cheap to share. I can get the Kroger brand for .69 a can AND I have been told that they are better if they are fried, but I have yet to try that!

Walmart has just started stocking canned shrimp again. It has not been available for two years. I use it to make fried rice so I was very happy to see it and am picking up one or two each visit. The GV pork makes a delicious dish with rice, pinto beans and kernal corn. I found pepper/chili seasoned pork in mylar pouches in the ethnic food isle at Walmart. It is even better in this dish and I've put it in a casserole and baked it with cheddar on top. Its good as it is but can stretch it further by using it as a filling in flour tortillas.
Corned beef and roast beef hash can be used to make stuffed cabbage (or cabbage casserole) and stuffed peppers.

The thing that makes canned meats, even canned veggies, canned anything shelf stable is bad for me: SALT. I've got tons of Spam and canned goods. I like the flavor of Spam, grew up on it, but the salt will kill me. Bummer. I've also just learned to appreciate the value of the small cans (esp chicken). I got to change up my game. There's always something to learn, TY AG.
I rinse my canned veggies to lower the salt and use them in one of my Favs, stir fried rice inventions/creations ... they're endless/love'm. Seriously, you have to practice, walk the talk or there will be 'foolish' surprises. But just do it, PREP, mistakes are an unavoidable part of the learning curve. So it goes. Bonus: you often get to buy when prices are right. You can't loose, its a solid no brainer investment/life style insurance thing too. What's not to like? 😎
Consume less, waste nothing, conserve everything. My parents lived thru the Depression, WW2 and taught us frugality to the extreme that has served me well. Less is more, is a wonderful paradox.

I think the "gravy" in the roast can is a little bland so i mix either powdered mushroom gravy or brown gravy mix in!!!! N add a can of mushrooms n dried onion flakes!!!! Got 52 (wks) cans of corned beef too. Hav cases of can dice potatoes n can make hash with them. Also try stokes green chili with a can of poatoes!!!! And stokes over scrambled eggs and cheese on top--- brunch. Hav thst 2 or 3 times month on sundays!!!! Hav pulled pork and there is pattersons bbq (not a strong bbq flavor more tomatoey) beef ground (walmart) thats very good too, smallish can but alot of meat. And of course keystone meats !!!!- walmart has the canned shrimp and crab. Swansons ala king and chicken n dumplings. Both good.

I just bought a Hormel Beef in the little glass jar. I remember these from years ago! My Mom used to make cream chipped beef with it. She always rinsed it to get rid of some of the salt, but I'm going to experiment with it soon. I like to test everything I buy.

I haven't seen canned shrimp in at least a year. Around Christmas I asked someone at Winn Dixie about it and she said that they had been trying to order it for about 8 months and could not get it. Didn't know what the problem was. I can guarantee, though, that if/when they *do get it that it will be more expensive. That seems to be the pattern ... a product "disappears" and when it comes back it is smaller and more expensive.

I prefer to stock #10 cans or Mylar bags of freeze-dried meat and poultry in my food storage because they have a 20-year shelf life in a cool, vermin-free pantry. But for short term, my favorite canned meat to put into the kitchen pantry is Spam, especially the bacon flavored Spam. The rectangular shape of the Spam can is very space efficient. A twelve-pack, flat package of Spam does not take up much room in the pantry. And Spam is a lot more versatile than canned tuna or canned chicken for the types of dishes I like to make. Just cut a block of Spam into half-inch dice, pan-fry it until lightly browned and then use it as an ingredient in fried rice, omelets, chili beans, spaghetti sauce or baked beans. It is even good as a pizza topping. You can even puree a block of Spam in a blender along with a little mayonnaise and have your own potted meat or sandwich filling.

Could not get the Keystone meats in my area, and the ground beef was not available anywhere. So I started canning my own meat.
I can control what's in my food, i.e. salt.
And it's so easy to use. Spaghetti sauce, manwich sauce. Taco seasoning, chili, brown /mushroom gravy, hamburger helper box.
Do a tortilla casserole [used to use the Pace Taco], can meat, shredded cheese, corn, black beans, diced tomatoes, oldest tortilas we got, shredded cheese--all /some of the liquids can be used to help it meld together; want a crunchy top? Any stale corn chips, taco shells/tortillas chips , and oven will crisp it up.
The Pace Taco complete is unavailable anywhere. But this was the inspiration to start canning my meat.
