I live on the Navajo Nation out in the bunnies. No running water or electricity. I use use baking soda for under arms, groin areas , brushing teeth, foot oder in shoes. Awesome.
Thanks for sharing how you use baking soda, and giving us a glimpse into your life. It is amazing how we can provide the things we need and live a simple lifestyle.
We drove across there last July. Beautiful lands! Had to be the most remote place we've ever been. I hope your leadership gets that water going, I did see that the new President has some good ideas. We also live in Arizona. Great tip on the baking soda uses!
I use oatmeal in my meatloaf, works great. Also, those jar lids I wash well, do a quick white vinegar soak and set out in the sun for a few days. No smell or discoloration. 👍🏼
Great minds think alike 🤣 I was going to suggest that... You beat me to it 😂😂💚🥰🙏 Kendra
Vinegar with water so not too vinegar ish... Is that a word 😆
I use oatmeal too. Good source of fiber. I also puree brocolli, green peppers, carrots, etc. and mix into the meat.
I just love your ideas for shopping at the Dollar Tree!! Also I am a Senior Citizen on a fixed budget and this works for me!! Great Work Alaska Granny!!!! Watching from my homestead in SW Missouri!!
I live in SW Missouri too
I never heard of putting a ball lid underneath the Classico lid and tightening it down , I’ll have to try that. Thanks Alaska Granny!👍👍👍👍
Dollar Tree is now the $1.25 tree! Still a great bargain. I’ve seen “grannies” buying their bread and milk there. 💕
Yes, they raised prices to $1.25 or more, over a year ago.
Great video. I too am a granny and was raised by a granny. One that always had food storage, canned, dehydrated and fermented. She wasn't called a prepper, just granny.
Luckily, your granny had a survivor mindset.
Teddy looks as if he has 6 back legs sitting on the pillow. Too cute!
Oh how I love to watch Teddy, he is such a sweet little boy. He makes my heart just melt.
I'm so glad! Thanks so much!
Using chlorine bleach, followed by letting a paste of water and baking soda dry in them, will generally take the smells out of jar tops. If you get Odoban, spray or pour a little in the top and let it sit for a while, will take the odors out. I got it by the concentrated jug and have hardly made a dent in it, and I use it all the time in spray bottles like about 1 part Odoban to 30 parts water. It is used in hospitals and will also disinfect in higher concentrations.
There are vacuum chambers that you can buy,(I got one for about $20.), that will vacuum-seal most glass jars with their original lids, and I have found it very useful for dehydrated or dried herbs, vegetables, nuts or even refrigerated home pickled items.
Yesss!
On occasion baking soda for heartburn works like magic. 👍 it doesn't taste great but the relief is absolutely immediate. Keep calm and prep on. Thanks AG I love your friendly reminders. ❤️
Thanks for the tip!
Yes when my stomach was upset as a kid, baking soda and water. It either goes down or comes up. It'll decide. It works like a charm. Kids have upset tummy before school, drink this... No I feel better rather go to school. Multi purposed 😜
Cute one ,baking soda is also a great laxative.
@@tao831 I wasn't aware of that. Learn something new each day. 😁
Teddy’s like mom lemme get up in this video 😂❤
I loved when you gave the tip about storing the pasta that is easier to break and store. I have mainly bought pasta with that in mind every time now and it does really help. Even in mylar or Exactly sealed they lay flatter in the storage container.
The strawberry jelly in squeeze bottle is very good at DT
A good substitute for vanilla in baking is whiskey & schnapps. Peppermint schnapps gives a nice minty hint to brownies, frosting, etc. And you can get a whole 1/5 gallon size bottle for $10
Interesting!
Thumbs up for reusing glass jars! Your idea is so good, Granny, the glass will keep out the bugs!
Surprisingly, some tiny bugs are already in the food as invisible eggs or get there early in storage. Storing refrigerated helps if you have room. I live in Florida so that is a constant concern.
Its funny how some Dollar Trees seem to be stocked and have a wide variety of choices and some DT stores selections are not very good, shelves are often bare. I can't even recall when I've seen a selection of dry beans. Canned bean choices are a bit better, but dry, good luck. I would love to see how you enjoy eating your bean dishes Alaska Granny. Yes, it's good to be a prepper. I've been making and storing herbs for tea's lately. Sometimes I forage and find wild turkey mushrooms and elderberry (in season). I also love stinging nettle with honey and ginger. I have mixes of camomile, rose and lavender, perfect before bed. Learning to make some herbal medicines and having them on hand is another important part of prepping. I'm currently doing a black walnut detox, we can find black walnuts all over the place here in Michigan. So simple to make and once you make it, it lasts forever.
Stinging nettle very nutritious
We are with you, making every day the best!
Great video! I buy the pickle buckets from a sandwich shop. After thorough washing I place it out in the sun for a few days which takes the odor out completely. Also, whenever I use any empty jars I keep the lid off the jars for a few days and all odors do go away also.
Great tip!
I had to come over here and see how u was doing. Your a blessing. I love my dollar tree. Take care sister!!
Thank you so much 🤗
Love to wash those jars in the dishwasher when I need containers. Some lids wash well, some don't, try one first before washing others of the same (or hand wash them). Sometimes I do the smell test like you suggested. Very useful advice!
Beautiful and very healthy outlook on life.
God bless you, for all you do.
I greatly appreciate it.
Thank you. 🙏👏👍❤️✨⭐️💫🌟🌹
Thanks so much for watching.
Teddy is so precious. Thank you for more great tips Stay safe
You are so welcome!
Teddy loves to snuggle you, so cute. That's a good list of longest lasting foods. Our Dollar Tree was out of beans and rice for weeks, finally had beans, rice and lentils back in stock as of last week.
That's good to tell people about kidney beans, not many know that they have those toxins until they are fully cooked. I have found some of the brands of lentils and beans now seem to have more debris like tiny rocks, leaves, stems and so forth so important to check and pick them out. Good tip also about the honey, the best for you is local, raw honey. The imitation products like imitation syrup or vanilla just aren't good for us either, the more natural the better. I like to grow flowers and give to friends and family. I clean and save jars during the year so when I want to give a bouquet, they don't have to remember to return a vase and they can also reuse or recycle that jar and saves me from having to buy vases as well.
@@wasnevernurseratched439 one interesting tip I heard was if you get a scratchy or sore throat, to take some local raw honey and it can stop the soreness very quickly. The honey has very potent natural antibacterial properties. My husband tried this recently and said it worked.
@@wasnevernurseratched439 no I was agreeing with you. Local raw honey really is amazing isn’t it? we are on the same page!
Thank you for another informative video. Love your puppy. Keep prepping and stay safe
Thanks, you too!
Dawn Jenny beat me to the advice about using the sun. The tip about the quick vinegar soak requires that the soak be quick, otherwise the vinegar will deteriorate the metal cap. I have learned not to use the vinegar method because I will inevitably leave the vinegar in the cap for "just a little longer", which will lead to too long. You can leave the cap sitting upside down on the top of a window sash in the kitchen to get some sun, too. As a last note: I have noticed that stored covered jars tend to smell "stale" over time, so I store the jars with the lid loosely sitting on top of the jar, but not screwed down.
Great reminder to store the jars with lids loose or separate.
Preserves are a good choice too, I choose them over maple syrup!
LOVE YOUR PUPPY! - yes, I found that out with the red kidney beans, better canned. Tried breaking up dry macaroni noodles to store more in a jar - Don't Do It! - unless you're into entertaining the neighbors - HAHA. I also bought a few of those bagged Salmon, thought they'd last a long time - but then ate them. YUM. Of course they haven't had them since. Dollar Tree is Hit or Miss here lately.
I like salmon, too!!
As always, thank you for such great and economical advice!
I have found DT also carries some brands of Apple Cider Vinegar with the "Mother" in it.
Thanks for your hard work for us!
...and Teddy sure loves his mama! 😄
Glad you enjoyed my video.
I also watch CBT video's for good mind and body. Keep these videos coming.
For those interested, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy can help with anxiety. Many of us have anxiety these days!
I love Alaskan Granny ❤
I appreciate that!
ive been going to the dollar tree a lot these last few months. I go there mostly for paper plates and scratch guard type sponges for my dishes and cleaning my Gravity Filters does a great job BTW.
Thanks for sharing!!
@@AlaskaGranny you are very cool, you reply to comments lots don't seem to care
Teddy is a snuggler! Thanks AG!
I've used the canning lids for pressure canning and they worked just fine ,I always put my lids in hot water before I put them on
I can in the classico jars. They have always resealed
Another good one, A.G! You always give us something new & relevant. Seems like you are always on top of the recalls too. That is a tremendous help. And especially about the kidney beans. Thank you again.
Thank you,
Alaska granny!
Thanks, AG. Have a great day!
You too!
Thanks! I’m new to you and I really enjoy your videos and I learn a lot too!
Thank you very much for the great ideas for my preps.
You are so welcome!
Good common sense advice AG. Keep it coming.
Great advice. Thanks for sharing.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks for another great video. You always give helpful hints and tips!
You are so welcome!
Good dog teddy
I like to find the cheap pastas because it’s easy to make sopa with almost any of them.
Great ideas!
Glad you like them!
Super info, thanks AG 😁❤ great idea on the reuse of creamer bottles
Glad it was helpful!

Good video , thanks for sharing , God bless !
Thanks for watching!
Great & informative video! TFS!
Thanks for watching!
A lot of their jarred food is good for several years also. I buy their Pampa brand mushrooms, jalapenos, green olives, fruit preserves, etc. It's all really high quality & usually good through 2025-2026. I use them as needed & replace
Baking soda is good as bicarbonate of soda for upset stomach
Very informative video. Most people don’t realize that kidney beans need special cooking. Thanks for informing others of this. I buy canned kidney beans, as well.
Thanks for watching.
Hi Teddy! 🐶
Buy what you can for $1.25, read that the dollar tree will be including items for up to $5.00.
Ours already has them and the freezer food is pizza, dino nuggets, gallons of ice cream etc. Same as walmart, but I prefer to buy there.
I've been getting Himalayan Pink Salt at DT, in one pound bags.
Great info..........also can you baking soda to brush your teeth (if needed)
Yes, you can!
Question, when you store your pasta, oats, beans, etc in reused jars, do you put oxygen absorbers in there, too? Are they necessary?
They are not necessary if you plan to rotate them within a few years. I save oxygen absorbers for foods I plan to store for the longest term.
If you can you can use the Classico jars for pressure canning. They are mason jars made in the Atlas foundary. Just look at your jars for the Atlas insignia in the glass
Yes, they are great jars. I reuse Classico jars to store dry foods. Sadly, not available at Dollar Tree as they cost at least $3 a jar these days.
Hi Teddy!
Hi Alaska Granny 👋
Great advice, as always. 👍
TFS AG, take care and keep really busy everyone. ♥️🙂🐶
A teaspoon of oatmeal in pet food for roughage and nutrition
Teddy loves oatmeal.
❤
I don't care for their egg noodles you cook them and they go to mush. But I truly like Dollar Tree which is $1.25 now but still great value.
Thanks for sharing your review.
🙏
Hi AG just a note about amazon. I ordered a box of canned soup because it was cheaper than Walmart but when I got the package, 8 of the 12 cans were dented, 1 really bad. Last time I do that! 😢
What a disappointment!
Return them. Walmart had dented can issues for months there. 90% dented can issue.
@@jgodwin717 I have found that Walmart is very good about giving you credit for dented cans in my pick up orders. I just do an online chat and get it taken care of. I was getting so many dented cans every week. It seems to be getting better. You will usually have to return damaged cans to Amazon, but they will make it good.
👍
Curious if anyone could tell me how long a jar of mayonnaise is good for past the best by date?
Like other foods, it depends how well you store it, cool, dark, dry.
Can I ask the best way you cleaned out those creamer bottles? Dawn? Vinegar. I have 2 liter bottles but it is hard to clean those because the neck is so small.
I don't know how AG cleans hers, but when I save half'n'half or creamer bottles I make sure to rinse them completely out with the hottest water the very minute I use the last of the product. Then I soak them in hot soapy dish water, and if the bottle brush won't fit, I put a dishcloth into the bottle and use the handle of a wooden spoon to scrub the inside. These are some of my favorite repurposed containers because they are tall and slender, so less space taken up on the shelf, and they aren't breakable like glass jars
@@BlessedLifeOriginal thank you so much! I buy so many and never think to keep them!
Yes, Dawn and vinegar. It's not easy to be sure they are clean, but I used what I had.
I never heard of adding oats to the ground beef. Could you go into more details on how to add oats to meats for extend them? Dry into meat and cook them together? Quick only? Old fashion onky? Or either one? Thanks
I have added a few tablespoons of dry oats to tuna fish with mayonnaise. It tastes great and extends the tuna.
Meatloaf
That's how I make my meatloaf and it's delicious
I just add a couple of tablespoons of oats, regular or quick, to each pound of raw ground beef when I mix in the other ingredients for meatloaf. Sometimes I use dried bread crumbs instead. Both work well.
I just made a meatloaf using a package of Stove Top, 2 lbs meat, 3 eggs, ketchup, spices. Very easy and tasty.
Don't store foods in cardboard boxes you'll get pantry bugs ugh..
Definitely get rid of the cardboard!!
🙂
I need advice! I found a bug in my rice that I keep in an oxo container. I removed it and quickly scanned the clear bin for more. I didn't see any when I turned around the bug had flown/ scurried away.
I'm guessing a weevil. I sifted through all the rice and found nothing. Are they in the grain? I threw bay leaves all around my pantry. Throw out the rice? Was it stuck inside? I'm worried the bug that flew away is going to get into my cereal boxes. Advice please anyone.
I guess also you need to worry about eggs. Can you throw in oxygen absorbers? That will kill the eggs. Or if able maybe freeze them while little by little. I think oxygen absorbers would be the best option. Please listen other experts' advices before Me since I am an amateur.
@@KoalaKrafts I believe you can pour into a bag and freeze for several days. Bring it back to room temperature (be sure all moisture is gone,), then store in your OXO
@@connierodenburg129 thank you! I'll freeze it.
Oxygen absorbers will kill critters and eggs, no need to freeze if you use them. Just pay attention to the size of the oxygen absorber and use as many as needed per cubic centimeter of your container
I just spent 160 at dollar tree.... 80 was on freeze dried fruit
Wow!
20 ounce pastas are $ 1.25. Great deal.
I agree!
Taco Bell puts oats in their ground beef!
Yes, 3-5%. Me gusta Taco Bell!
GRANNY ALL OF THIS HAS GMO'S
