Fair. I wouldn't recommend using the alcohol on the screen though. Water and micro fiber cloth is enough. Same wipe pattern, and a buffing pattern after works great.

what would you recommend for someone that keeps getting knats attractive to a laptop screen at night that kiddos squish em on the screen to kill em. i have dozens of trails of squished bug guts all over my screen now.. ya i know,so gross. dont think distilled water is gonna work and i want to disinfect it
I have heard that with reference to iPads as they have a protective layer to resist fingerprints. I’m not sure that’s true of the Mac (or a PC). I’d check with the manufacturer.
We had to take out laptop to get a tune up and find out it has a virus. So much for virus protection. I am a pc person. Your videos are amazing! You help motivate me. Thank you Melissa! You should do a beauty routine and update daily routine.
A regular laptop is not the same like a gaming laptop. A gaming laptop has a port and a fan that breathes in cool air and exhaust out heat. The internal layer and the fan is required to be clean once every 3-6 months depending on how often it's being used. This also counts onto the AQI inside your home. I wouldn't recommend using anytime of chemical to clean the screen. Just used distilled water or cool-warm tap water.
Apple user since 1984. Apple Systems Engineer for 30+ years. "One you go Mac you don't go back." Mostly use a MacBook Pro but I also have a 24-inch iMac for editing work.
I'm firmly a desktop user: even when I *had* a laptop, I used it as a desktop most of the time. In fact, I'm even consiering whether or not a two-screen desktop would be best for my future work! And I've used both Macs and PCs, sometimes simultaneously, depedning on what was available. I strongly prefer Macs overall, but I frequently haven't had my choice.
One-eye'd Mac user here (I like the light grey or pink...currently have the grey). "Once you have a Mac, you can't go back!" I was issued a PC laptop for work last year. That thing drives me crazy. I use it purely for projecting and printing and I use my own Mac for everything else. Haven't had a desktop since about 2011.
iPad in a case that uses Bluetooth keyboard that swivels out of the way! (You can use it like a tablet when you swivel the keyboard out of the way). Best of both worlds as far as I am concerned.
Never been a Mac user, tried awhile back when husband had his 2nd hand Mac, but I just didn't get use to it and then he got PC (YAY!) For work, I'd rather desktop, because the monitors are much bigger than the laptop; but for personal use, I'd rather laptop 😊
Oh my goodness thank you so much. I was going to pay for someone to clean my laptop because I could see all the fluff and even my dogs hair in the keyboard. I cleaned it the way you described and the dirt that came out was shocking. Thank you so much
DO NOT clean any laptops that have rubber type coating on them as it will dry it to the point where it will start peeling off. Skip rubbing alcohol part on any laptop clean bar screen. Instead of compressed air you can get Rocket air blower or similar - it will last a lifetime.
Great video! I ruined my mac keys by keeping my computer on and i think I used too much alcohol :( it was during covid so I was trying to get rid of germs. Great advice, thanks😊
You turned your can of compressed air upside down when you adjusted your laptop. Inverting canned, compressed air causes liquid to spray out of the can. Never use alcohol on your screen. It damages the coatings ... use water. If possible, disconnecting the battery when using any cleaning liquid is advisable.
Important to know that using a vacuum on a computer can be hazardous. Air passing through the plastic nozzle can build up a static charge strong enough to fry the motherboard. When I cleaned my PC case, I would blow dust with compressed air while holding the vacuum nozzle in the vicinity of where I was cleaning, being careful not to touch the computer.
I had to use a Mac at work for a while, I just couldn't adapt. It is difficult for me to keep track of all the differences between Mac and PC, so I stay PC. My brother claims a Mac is the only answer for an artist.
Never had a Mac. Right now using old netbook with broken battery (with old Ubuntu in its head) and my poor old desktop is in coma. Cleaned a lot of computers since 1999 and never use air cans. Use brush and vacuum cleaner.
Thank you Melisa, really helpful, a fidley job made to look easy! Well done! & I prefer my 21.5 inch I Mac Desktop Computer - a bigger screen, but it can get SO dirty!! I’ll try your rubbing alcohol & see how it works, thanks, watching from UK 👏👏🖥💻🖥🪥🚰🏡😄
The cleaning advice depends on the material the screen is made of. Our work laptops have glass screens. In any case, I wish people at work would clean their work issued laptops before asking me to fix it. Nasty! I wonder how they see how to do their work.

hey you should not clean your screen with rubbing alcohol, it removes this protective layer of material... you should use distilled water
You actually should use a cleaner that’s made for cleaning electric screens!! Not any kinda water 😅

What if the section between the base and keyboard is actually wide speakers (newer macbook pro)? How do I safely clean the wide speaker section?
