This was originally 17 minutes long bc I had included a book haul but three topics seemed like too much for one video. So now it’s too short but oh well.
I like how you said that you're not going to turn your reading into an endless chore, and how it's just something that you have to and want to do, right? I mean, there's other book vloggers who literally force themselves to read a whole lotta stuff that they're simply not the least bit interested in. (In my mind, if I did this, it'd put me off reading, right?)
Exactly. Honestly I made my channel to supplement my reading life and have a place to document and share my thoughts on my books. If I started to read in order to supplement my channel I’d shut this shit down haha
I’m reading Choke by Chuck Palahniuk this week. I’m also finishing a book about the collapse of most empires in dated history. After that it will be Imperial Bedrooms and 48 Laws of Power.
also loveee using goodreads for cataloguing all of my reads! i also like to use the highlight feature to keep track of quotes if i ever need to do a quick quote search if i don't have the book on me at hand. do you also use storygraph?
@@bookpogo if i'm off the kindle, i just take a picture of the page and highlight it using the text-highlight feature for apple devices! a bit of a process, but if there's a big block of text, it comes in handy! i like the ui for storygraph a lot more, but it lacks a real social feature that i enjoy a lot more on goodreads!
wow i had the exact same goodreads experience lol - year 1 getting back into it, no goal. year 2, 50 book goal -- hit 47 or 48? irritated me, so next year i set the goal to 1 lol. this year i set it to 3. i was just curious to see how long it would take for me to hit 3 books. lmao
Hi this is super random but how did u decide to start on UA-cam? I would love to start uploading at some point but im mainly scared of what ppl i know irl would say lol. I dont have social media so i kinda wanna share my interests *somewhere* and think youtube is great but yeah. Love your channel and your taste in books is immaculate 🤌
1) I was on yt and saw there were people making videos about books and not the consumerism of books. I felt I had something to contribute so I decided to just start. I was also scared but I don’t think many people in my real life know about my channel at all unless I’ve explicitly told them. The internet is a vast space so don’t be worried about people finding out. The most important thing to do is just start 🙌 and thank you for the compliments :)
Yes! I think you would like him. I don't even know how to describe him. Basically he's a encylopedic difficult but hilarious post modern novelist. Someone to read if you want a challenge, loads of other youtubers have made videos about getting through his work. His second novel is his most accessible for newcomers to his work. It's about a 19th century postal service conspiracy, the premise almost sounds Gogolian lol@@bookpogo
It works for me too.
My motto is - read what you love to read.

yay! tysm and I will do that trustt
that's what i love about books, too-they're such a safe place to try 🙈🥰
I been meaning to branch out to foreign authors. Very excited to eventually read
Gogol! You've got to read his best short stories--y'know, "The Nose" and "The Overcoat," particularly the latter.
“The Nose” and “The Carriage” ✅ looking to get my hands on overcoat soon

That all sounds really good. Imperial bedrooms had me f up and made Less Than Zero feel like child’s play haha
Choke been on my shelf for a month…
Might want to try the memoirs of US Grant. Very direct style that I think is a precursor of Hemingway. Just a random thought.

Wait can u highlight without a kindle? And no I do not… but I’m looking into it rn

@@nathansnookI hate change and I like gr… but perhaps I’ll give it a try in 2024 and see how I like it 🤓🙌
@@bookpogo yeah let me know how you like it and if you find any other alternatives!!!

Nothing like being 300% done with your goal

Have you read Thomas Pynchon?
No, should I?

Crying of Lot 49 or Inherent Vice are a perfect starting point for Pynchon, but if you can get into Mason & Dixon right away, it's a true masterpiece.
Actually I think you WILL be interested in Russian literature for life along with others, congratulations 👍 😺😃
once again you’re probably right. I agree that it is a good thing 💪
