The trigger warnings on Storygraph were life changing for me. And the "pace" helps me stay out of reading slumps: I filter my to-read by medium or fast paced. Helps keep me afloat between classics.
Hi! My first language isn't English do sometimes I struggle understanding some words. "Pace" is one of them.. Could someone tell it's definition? Thanks!
I like that they have more statistics and better recommendations. However as a German reader I do not find many German books in my language and if so the editions are often without a cover, it’s the English translation of the German author or English books do not have the German editions to chose for your library. I hope they add them in the future. Until then it’s not as user friendly as Goodreads for non-English users who like to read in their native language.
Editions without cover: You can just click on "flag incorrect information" on a book's page and create a ticket. A volunteer librarian like myself will clean that book up, usually in a matter of hours. Might take a bit longer for non-English books, aber es gibt auch deutsche volunteer librarians unter uns ;) can't find a German edition: just add it via ISBN
@@merle-k Hast du in den Website Preferences German ausgewählt? Wenn nicht, erscheinen nämlich nur Englische Ausgaben in den Suchergebnissen und Empfehlungen.
I had a similar problem at first, but it really helps if you set German as one of your languages in the settings (yes, you can luckily choose more than one language). I'm Czech so it was really hard for me to find any Czech books at first, but now it's a lot easier. There is also a feature that allows you to add books that you can't find, which I have used many times so far and you can potentially help other users find books they might be looking for as well :)
I recently started trying StoryGraph and I like it so much! My only issues are that there isn’t much of the community options the way there are in Goodreads (book clubs, lists, quizzes, the ability to ask authors questions) and it has a much smaller audience which means it lacks in reviewers. Other than that, I’m really enjoying it (especially the UI, it’s so much better and more up to date)
Is there an option to write reviews on StoryGraph? If yes, since all my other Goodreads data can be transferred to here, will the reviews I've written also come along with it?
On the story graph users can make up reading challenges (not just based on number of books read) which anyone can join. Would be cool if you came up with one and everyone here could join and follow along. The reading challenge feature also tracks all the books which people submit to each prompt so you can start to see a little categorised library of what everyone's reading
I love this feature so much!! I'm doing the translation one and one I found with BIPOC/LGBT+ books and it's been great! (I also found one with Taylor Swift recommend books)
Just sharing that if you can't find a certain book, or edition in a specific language, or edition with a different cover, etc.. you can add the specific edition you couldn't find yourself. The app accepts user added books to help build the platform :)

What I love about Storygraph is honestly the stats. I’m a sucker for a good graph. As someone who will read pretty much anything you throw at me, Storygraph has helped me actually see patterns and understand my own reading habits better. I’m excited to see how my stats will change over time, and I love that you can compare your reading stats from different time frames. I like the tags as well because it helps to understand why they’re recommending a certain book, and I love that it gives you an idea of the pacing, which gives me a better chance of finding books I’ll actually LOVE and not just kinda enjoy.
I've been considering joining Storygraph for a while, and this video finally pushed me over. Tbh I'll still keep my Goodreads account active at least for a little while, because I read a lot of books that literally have no reviews on Goodreads, so I'm not sure I'll be able to find them on Storygraph. But at least I'm trying to distance myself from the one Amazon product I use, and that's something
apparently, If you read a book multiple times, say 3 times, they will log the book 3 times increasing the overall number of read books something different to Goodreads and I'm not mad about it, if anything I love it!!

I love storygraph since last year and absolutely love it. The coders of storygraph take into community so much that it's amazing. I love nadia and her updates!!!
I just joined StoryGraph today (after watching Jack's latest video on his other channel haha) and while filling out my preferences at the beginning, I also left the last question ('I'm rarely/never in the mood for a book') empty-didn't want to put myself off unexpected but good recommendations!
I tried Storygraph when everyone started to rave about it but TBH it was not for me. I lost all my previous years content because the import just did NOT work, a LOT of books weren't listed and TBH tho I am a total bookworm, I really don't give a hoot about stats and box ticking and didn't need it pointing out what moods and genres I read as I am already well aware of that and my tastes by now. I feel like it's promoted a lot on its stats , graphs and pie charts and I was never into that at school never mind now. Hats off to someone for creating an alternative though I will be sticking with Goodreads as a log. There's also zero community feel on Storygraph and I really don't care for recommendations on either site. If there was a way to remove or avoid this on Storygraph, it would appeal more
I completely agree. A lot of booktubers have transitioned to storygraph and I'm sure it has a lot of users but there's just no community feel to it - you can't comment or interact with anyone and I think (?) theres no option to leave longform reviews. I follow a lot of excellent reviewers on Goodreads who inspire my reading, so I'm unable to move to storygraph.
Love that more and more people are starting to use this app. Started with beta and loved it right away. If anyone of your viewers are like me and want to explore books, authors and genre they normally don’t read, I can highly recomend The Storygraph genre challange. I wanted to spread my wings outside of the fantacy genre and have loved every book I picked in that challange so far. I wanted to read more diversely in all ways possible. It is also the same reason why I like watching your videos, discover new material 😊 Sorry if I spelled anything horrible wrong.
I am getting back into reading and was never a big goodreads user, but already im super motivated by storygraph since seeing the graphs fill out more with every book and getting more accurate to my reading preferences is just so fun. I even told my mom about it today and she's super excited too to add all of her kindle books that she has read and downloaded so that she can go through them easier, she has hundreds downloaded but has no easy way to keep track of them. Im still looking at goodreads for the reviews, but im using storygraph for everything else now. Thank you for making a video about this!!
Storygraph looks very promising but I'll wait until it's more established to transition over to it. I want to see each book have all of (or at least as many as possible) their editions listed, and a larger userbase so ratings are more reliable. But ya, Goodreads' lack of progress is frustrating. It's 2021 and I still can't filter my To-Read list by genre and/or fiction/non-fiction 😑
Thank you for telling me about The StoryGraph! I just signed up today and I'm already in love with it. It says that I prefer books that are adventurous, dark, mysterious, and medium-paced, which is based on the 1789 books that I've read on Goodreads. Their recommendations make more logical sense than Goodreads with specific reasoning. Goodreads recs always seem random to me.
i’ve been using storygraph for over a year now and like 8-9 months ago i deleted my goodreads to stop supporting amazon. one of my favorite features on there is how you can add what books you want to read next from your to-read pile because it helps me stop wasting time on picking which one i wanna read next. i also feel like there’s less pressure for me to add a rating if i don’t want to. plus the trigger warnings help me so much even if i’m not triggered by something it just tells me what i should emotionally prepare for. anyways storygraph is great if you’re more into the stats and book stuff rather than the community
Was about to re-create a Goodreads account and then I watched this video and now I'm starting a Storygraph one. :) Thanks for saving me.I don't wanna support amazon more.
This is the first I'm hearing of this Storygraph website (that I can recall, at least) and since I've sworn off signing up to Goodreads because it's owned by Amazon, I'm definitely going to consider checking it out! Thanks for the rec Jack!
I am so glad you have joined! I joined at the start of the year and there has been lots of improvements already. The stats is great. You can also create other book challenges as well for the year and other people can join. So I have one this year to try and read 20 books from the Rory Gilmore challenge list
Thank you SO much for this!!! I was just thinking about getting back into reading, but didn't want to deal with goodreads anymore 😭😭😭 perfect timing for me to find this!!!
love this video!! i've had a storygraph account for a while but forgot about it until now. its recommendation feature is literally lifechanging, TBR wise, and i can't get enough
YEESSSSS I LOVE STORYGRAPH!! So excited that you're joining it. I've been on Storygraph since the beginning of this year since a book blogger friend recommended it. Honestly I've never been too comfy with goodreads since it has too many distractions and in the end I just end up looking at different books and pages. In storygraph I just focus on tracking my own reading and I don't even review books so often. Anyway I'll definitely check out your account even though we have vastly different taste in books. I just enjoy listening to people talking about books haha.
i started using storygraph when there was only a beta version available and it improves so often! the creators are so nice and always paying attention to what's going on and the data!!! the graphs!!!!! it's awesome
I recently began reading so I made a Goodreads pretty much specifically to keep track of what I've read and sometimes look to see what other people thought of something after I've finished it, but the community features really don't matter too much to me. So Storygraph seems pretty awesome and ideal for me, definitely going to make an account now.
So glad you made this video. I've been thinking of switching from Goodreads to Storygraph and I'm not sure why I haven't done it yet. However, after seeing your video I had added it to my to do list for this week. Thanks.... this was super helpful.
I’ve been trying to make the transition to storygraph too! My only issue is that some of my books from previous years don’t register as being read because i didn’t put the exact day i finished them which is kind of a bummer :(
@@indicisivereader3401 yes, if you click on the books, you should see where it says "books read once" or something like that. If you click on that, you should be able to change the date
You can add books without specifying the year. If go to your profile, check your books read recently, click view all and select “all” or “no date”, you’ll see them there.
just made the move recently after learning goodreads was owned by amazon and the ability to tag what triggers are in a book, what genres/the pace + the stats are what puts it above grs for me!
This is so cool! I hadn't heard of The StoryGraph before today and have recently been thinking of returning to the Goodreads profile I had as a teenager, but knowing it's owned by Amazon kept me from doing that. Great to see an independent-owned alternative!
Thanks for this video Jack, tried to switch to storygraph before and tech let me down, so you gave me a kick up the arse to persevere and I am now a fully fledged storygraph-er! Also female, POC owned busines 👌
omg i love that you can set the challenge to be pages instead of books!! i’ve been feeling “guilty” because this year i’ve been reading longer books so the number of total books is lower than other years although i’m kind of reading the same amount
What I also really like is community reading challenges. Members can just post a challenge and you can join. I joined a Read around the world challenge and a German books one and it's just really helpful to see other peoples reads for the prompts and then get inspired.
@@lucycollins1546 "reading challenges" (top of the page in browser. in the menu (top right) in the app) -> "browse" -> choose any challenge -> "join challenge"
I love the Storygraph!! I only use my Goodreads account for a bookclub I'm in, everything else is in the Storygraph (as well as my Notion page lol) and it's so cool to see my stats! I only started tracking my reading this year but I'm looking forward to exploring how my reading tastes develop over the years using it! So excited to be able to follow you on there
So I’m really loving StoryGraph lately. I feel like one of the things that drew people into goodreads (other than the fact that it was literally the only book review site in a social media style) were those silly flame reviews that were filled to the brim with silly gifs. I love that StoryGraph isn’t founding itself on meme reviews and the kind of survey style area ahead of the rating section that informs the tags seems to discourage people from doing things like giving substance-less written reviews. The reviews on storygraph just trend at so much higher quality. And they’ve even put on the effort implement SIMPLE UI changes that just _make sense_ like a button to see only the reviews that have text so you don’t have to sift through pages of just stars to get to something written
I never used GR but after a huge reading slump I was looking for something to inspire me to read more. Storygraph is exactly what I was looking for - the stats are great, the reading challenges are fun and I love how easy the app is to use.
I don't really like story graph as much. I feel like I'm always having to click around more in Storygraph than Goodreads for basic things like reviews. I like the stats portion though.
Thank you for saying that 🥺 I thought so too... Lots of clicking to simply navigate. Also no community updates like Goodreads. I'd like to talk about books with random people. Miss that on storygraph.
One of the books you scrolled past when it gave you the recommendations after you took the survey was Exit West, and I want to second that recommendation because I think it's the kind of book you would adore! It is magical realism and it has stunning writing, and it also tackles some really important modern issues. just putting it out there in case :)
I just signed up and I'm actually giddy about the recommendations. Some of them are already on my TBR and the ones that aren't look phenomenal. If Storygraph includes the social aspect as well (which I don't think it does yet other than the ability to follow people), it'll eclipse Goodreads pretty soon.
I started using the storygraph earlier this year and I love it! But I also still love aspects from goodreads..So I'm just on both haha. A little extra? Possibly.
I never bothered with goodreads but I think you've convinced me for storygraph. Brb lemme just go make an account lmao. I love your videos by the way, you're helping me widen my book horizons for sure!
Yesss!! I love The Storygraph! I actually moved there a few months ago too for this same reason and I'm glad to see you're doing the same thing - also the rating system on Storygraph is sooo much better
I am not yet on The Storygraph. However, I have read about it and checked the website and I'm considering setting up my account with it, just for the tracking and personalised recommendation which are *the game-changer* because of its specifics, if you ask me. Now, in Goodreads... it's the newsletters for me: The monthly new releases, the updates of releases of authors I follow, for season- or mood- themed lists: I like them, but I rely on more than just the Goodreads one. Also, I do not use Kindle (I use Apple Books) so the fact that it auto-syncs with Kindle does not really affect me, but that is something Storygraph can follow and work on as well as the fact that community features allows for book clubs and adding friends and group challenges.
Thank you so much for this video!! Didn’t know Amazon owns Goodreads😳 The Storygraph looks like such a well thought out and better version of goodreads tbh, definitely gonna try it out today!
I went straight to storygraph after watching this video. Turns out I only read reflective, emotional, sad, dark, challenging and informative books. Only 1 hopeful book this year. Makes sense why I feel so damn sad all the time. I think it's time to crack open a good old John Green
Oh you should absolutely specify the below 300 pages preference if you want to!! Since there are stats for that it'll definitely influence your recommendations
I just saw your video thumbnail and I regretted signing up for Goodreads a week ago. So today I signed up for Storygraph and then watched the video. I too had that dilemma when I could only select 3.

YESSS JACK THANK YOU FOR THIS!! WE NEED MORE PEOPLE ON STORYGRAPH!
"to stop supporting Amazon"🤓☝🏻
"trigger warning help me so much"🤓
Was about to re-create a Goodreads account and then I watched this video and now I'm starting a Storygraph one.
Literally just switched to story graph a few weeks ago! So happy to see booktubers moving over :)
I am so glad you have joined! I joined at the start of the year and there has been lots of improvements already. The stats is great. You can also create other book challenges as well for the year and other people can join. So I have one this year to try and read 20 books from the Rory Gilmore challenge list
Everytime Jack posts i know im about to learn someting new. Love it!!!✨✨
Thank you SO much for this!!!
Two videos in one day.. THANK YOU JACK! You're amazing ✨
i started using storygraph when there was only a beta version available and it improves so often! the creators are so nice and always paying attention to what's going on and the data!!! the graphs!!!!! it's awesome
My only issue is that some of my books from previous years don’t register as being read because i didn’t put the exact day i finished them which is kind of a bummer :(
I think you can still just add the year? That's what I did!
@@lilliput112 Oh really, thank you so much! Now i’ve only got to dedicate some time to doing that then.
@@indicisivereader3401 yes, if you click on the books, you should see where it says "books read once" or something like that. If you click on that, you should be able to change the date
You can add books without specifying the year. If go to your profile, check your books read recently, click view all and select “all” or “no date”, you’ll see them there.
@@luizappicanco yes but then it doesn’t count towards the reading channel or the yearly statistics
Omg jack I’ve been waiting for this!!!!!! I’ve been using it for a year and it’s my absolute favorite thing ever!
just made the move recently after learning goodreads was owned by amazon and the ability to tag what triggers are in a book, what genres/the pace + the stats are what puts it above grs for me!
I was so pleased to see this! Leena Norms video put me onto the Storygraph. I'm excited to see so many people moving over :)
Discovered your channel from this video. I’m now OBSESSED with StoryGraph and have subscribed to your channel. Thanks mate!
I love the StoryGraph! The way their review page works is phenomenal, as is being able to add content warnings!
omg i love that you can set the challenge to be pages instead of books!! i’ve been feeling “guilty” because this year i’ve been reading longer books so the number of total books is lower than other years although i’m kind of reading the same amount
What I also really like is community reading challenges. Members can just post a challenge and you can join.
I joined a Read around the world challenge and a German books one and it's just really helpful to see other peoples reads for the prompts and then get inspired.
I think the German challenge is the one I made, since I can't find any other ones. This just makes me so happy! I hope you enjoy it 💗
@@MsBlulucky That's a funny coincidence. It's really great I'm definitely enjoying myself.
how do you join these challenges
It's top right not left, I'm bad with directions.
@@lucycollins1546 "reading challenges" (top of the page in browser. in the menu (top right) in the app) -> "browse" -> choose any challenge -> "join challenge"
I’ve been dying to find a proper replacement for goodreads and now there finally is one!! Thank you so much for this omg
I think I might try this out! Thanks for sharing this, Jack, I wouldn’t have ever found out about it!
So excited to be able to follow you on there
2 videos in a day? That's it for me. I can voluntarily go to antartica now and feed myself to the penguins
Well this is, quite frankly, revolutionary. Catch me going to sign up right now.
ALRIGHT, thank you jack,
by saying the words "im downloading storygraph", you have convinced me to also download it
jack you really are doing fine with "reflective", my biggest slice this year (by far) is "dark" and i think that shows you how my 2021 is going so far
I was literally looking for you on Story graph today, that's amazing
One of the books you scrolled past when it gave you the recommendations after you took the survey was Exit West, and I want to second that recommendation because I think it's the kind of book you would adore! It is magical realism and it has stunning writing, and it also tackles some really important modern issues. just putting it out there in case :)
Downloading this has been the best decision i’ve ever made…I LOVE IT, THANK YOU❤️
I just signed up and I'm actually giddy about the recommendations. Some of them are already on my TBR and the ones that aren't look phenomenal. If Storygraph includes the social aspect as well (which I don't think it does yet other than the ability to follow people), it'll eclipse Goodreads pretty soon.
Hehe I was waiting for this to happen
Storygraph is brilliant, I've been using it since the beta stage! Glad to see more people are moving over to it
So glad I found this video 5 hours after I put my whole reading list on Goodreads...
I moved to story graphs minutes after seeing this video, so far love the app, and how reader-focused it really is!
I got the Storygraph a few months ago and I love it so much. The stats view is so good
I started using the storygraph earlier this year and I love it! But I also still love aspects from goodreads..So I'm just on both haha. A little extra? Possibly.
I'm the same! Enjoy the story graph stats but I feel like it kinda sucks for actually keeping record of what you've read...
holy moly. Thank you for this video. I'm currently working on setting up my own StoryGraph and its very exciting!
I switched to story graph a while ago too, so much better than Goodreads honestly.
Love your content tho ❤️
@@capripoa yepp all you need to do is sign up and you're ready to go
hi, do my files stay on goodreads too after exporting them? or will it be just on storygraph
@@katytatishvili your GR account will stay the same ;)
@@MsBlulucky thank you
I never bothered with goodreads but I think you've convinced me for storygraph. Brb lemme just go make an account lmao. I love your videos by the way, you're helping me widen my book horizons for sure!
STORYGRAPH IS SUPERIOR!!! I literally ignore goodreads now because the statistics and functions of Storygraph is sublime ✨✨
I’ve never heard of storygraph. Will definitely check it out.
I’ve been loving storygraph so far and the book recommendations and stats are amazing
I love how you just randomly laugh in the video. So cheerful and excited.
Why haven't I seen this video before? Thanks for recommending Storygraph, Jack, I love it! :)
Thank you so much for this video!! Didn’t know Amazon owns Goodreads😳
The Storygraph looks like such a well thought out and better version of goodreads tbh, definitely gonna try it out today!
You can do MORE challenges, e.g. prompts for translated literature, diverse reads, BuzzWord challenge, PopSugar challenge, etc. It's a marvel!
Great video!
I love The StoryGraph and the people behind it. Awesome that you talk about them here 🙂
THANK YOU im so glad someone else is using storygraph. its so so so much better
YESSS COME TO STORYGRAPH!!!! IT. IS. INCREDIBLEEEE and makes so much easierrr to find LGBTQIA+ books & graphic novels
I love the storygraph!! I really like the user made reading challenges there are a lot of really cool ones over there
I went straight to storygraph after watching this video.
I looooovveeee the reread option, makes me feel validated
I moved earlier this year and like it so much more than Goodreads (altho always been a more casual user) the recs are so on point 😍
I am so glad people are starting to make this switch!!!
I just saw your video thumbnail and I regretted signing up for Goodreads a week ago. So today I signed up for Storygraph and then watched the video. I too had that dilemma when I could only select 3.
