I have horrible back pain from L4/L5 L5 S1 herniated discs and canal stenosis causing sciatica going down both legs . It got so bad I was hunched over in a spasm and couldn’t walk long from the sciatica . Felt IMMEDIATE RELIEF after the first shot and just had my 3rd and last one . Pain went from a solid 10 to a 2/3 . I’ve been dealing with this pain for almost 3 years and I finally feel semi normal . I almost didn’t get them because I heard “how bad they are for you “ and “how they didn’t work “
Don’t listen to this kind of negativity . The shots may not be great for everyone but it’s worth a shot ;) (pun intended)
God bless anyone in chronic pain reading this , I know how it feels ! Stay strong and preserver!

Sarah Aldaman I have a cyst from L4 to S1 and my neurologist is suggesting an operation to remove the cyst. Might be worth it to speak to your neurologist about an operation as a long term solution. That being said cysts can always reform so personal choice of action. Eating daily turmeric tablets helped with my pain and proper gym exercises for back like weights. If you strengthen your back, pain won’t be too much and should avoid running to cause less damage and pain

For those people who say it didn’t work or is extremely dangerous....I have no idea who your doctor was but it sounds like they were incompetent. Also the shot doesn’t work for everyone. It’s not 100% cure all. It work very well for me and I had it done about two months ago. Hurt like hell but after 24hrs I was almost normal again. After not being able to walk for almost a year, this shot was a god send.

I’m 20 with a herniated disc. I’m 6’1 and 170 lbs. This procedure is not as bad as people say it is. The steroid is meant to relieve inflammation not put your disc back into place. HOWEVER, the physical therapy exercises you do after the procedure will work better because your body isn’t fighting against the inflammatory process to push that disc back where it’s supposed to be. Of course there are risks, they are low. Find yourself an experienced doctor. I thought I should say something because I had any of the same worries most people have because everyone says this procedure could paralyze you, but there’s a very very low chance that could happen.

Hey Anthony! I had my first shot today due to sciatica caused by the bulging disc. My right leg, where i have the sciatica symptoms- feels little bit weak and numb. Is it normal? And how many days it take to see the effect?

    • @anthonym9494
      @anthonym9494 3 роки тому +6

Umit Gunay First i should tell you I’m not a doctor. Second how old are you cause your body might take more time to let the shot settle in the older you are? It can start working two days afterward but they told me it usually kicks in anywhere from 5-10 days later. I’m not sure if the numbness is normal. I definitely had some weird feelings after I had my shot, I mean they’re going through ligaments, muscle, and into a spinal meninge you know. You can call your provider to ask just for some piece of mind too.

@@anthonym9494 Thank you very much for the information. I'm 35 years old. My leg is not weak actually but there's a strange feeling as you described. There's nothing but to wait...
I haven't been able to sit for the last 4 months, i tried 3 pyhsiotherpies, 1 chiropractor but nothing helped. And i decided to try this after a long thought process.
But you are totally right about the aftermath. These shots are not miracles or permanent solutions. You have to be dynamic and do exercises. Otherwise pain will come back.
How many did you have btw?

    • @anthonym9494
      @anthonym9494 3 роки тому +5

Umit Gunay I’ve only gotten one 🤞🏼 hopefully that’s all I need. Getting more than three shots in the same area increases your risk for problems like bone weakness in the future so it’s important to do the necessary exercises so healing can take place and the pain doesn’t come back. I’m reminding myself everyday that even though the pain is gone, I’m not quite there yet so I’m taking things easy and resting when I can.

had this procedure yesterday. Didn't realize other people were concerned about it. Here is my experience. Cause Spinal Stenosis. Tried anti-inflametory pills, no help, PT for 4 months, little impact. So finally the injections yesterday to L5 left and right sides. This is the day after. It wasn't painful getting out of bed. I wasn't hunched over walking around for the first 10-15 minutes. No pain noticed after the fact :) . For the procedure. Was told arrival to departure would be about an hour. Correct. Normal pre procedure, lots of questions to confirm identify and why I was there. There was an option to have a general muscle relaxer added, but need to have a person to drive you home, otherwise, if no relaxer, you can drive yourself home after. IV needle in arm (This actually was almost no pain, but funny, was the only pain experienced during the whole procedure, so for me if you can take an IV needle, you're good to go. They had me lie face down, then put a gel or liquid on my lower back that was cold, as I guess the cleaning and numbing. Then about 10-15 min later they said all done, and I was rolled back to the prep area, dressed and went home. Seemed to feel better even after a couple of hours if that's at all possible. Anyway, my experience, is that there is nothing to fear from this. I'm very hopeful given how I feel after less than 24 hours. Good luck.

After six years of extreme pain due to a slight herniation, two weeks ago the injured disc herniated fully into the nerve exactly as this animation showed. I was unable to do a thing, the pain was constant, no let-up, relief or comfort was to be found. Couldn't walk, let alone work, lift, stretch, etc. I'm fit and active, but for 6 years I've been in pain, with strength, posture and overall lifestyle struggles that take the fun out of everything.
I had this exact injection two days ago. I have zero pain and full range of motion once again, which I haven't had in six years. I know this is temporary, but I have an appointment with a neurosurgeon tomorrow, where a new MRI and the die from this injection will show him exactly how to fix my issues.
Don't wait, don't fear this procedure. It will give you the relief you need to get back to living and planning your next steps in full recovery.

Yes, Yes, but it's not for everyone. The first two shots really did not do much, and with the third shot I walked into the hospital and had to be wheel chaired out. I haven't been able to walk since....it was eleven years ago. Yes I have a lower back injury and tried to tell the pain management 'A'-hat but he did not have time to listen. These injections make them a lot of money and it does not come with a double your money back guarantee....flip the coin....insurance and you foot their bill. Either way it's a win-win thing for them.

I even had one where they kinda pinched a nerve on the way in but it didn’t even hurt , it was just surprising. The only problem I have with these infiltrations is that , depending on what procedure I get is that some doesn’t work and I have no idea why my doctor prescribes different types and what’s the difference between all of them.

Viewers should be aware that often before injecting the steroid solution, the physician will inject contrast material and confirm correct needle placement under fluoroscopy before proceeding with the injection of the steroid/local anesthetic solution. Additionally, patients are often given monitored sedation for the procedure, after a discussion with the physician regarding what is best in that particular patient's case.

But it was only thing I could do right now that my insurance would cover. I need surgery but because I got hurt at work, my Attorney is dealing with it all. Been 14 months now since I fell at work and hurt my back & can't work. It's horrible. I can't get good rest because of my feet tingling, burning, & feel like they're freezing all at the same time & they have me on the max dosage of 800mg of Gabapentin twice a day. It helped for a week & felt great with my feet not hurting but was short lived...

I lost my mother . Dealing with Guilt?
My mother had severe back and leg pain that she was unable to bear and her daily life was badly affected because she was unable to move . Pain was so severe that she has to take frequently pain killer meds with heavy dosage .
After checking with many neurosurgeons , we decided to proceed with one. Most of the Neurosurgeons were advising Spinal Surgery because as per MRI report she has Degenerated disc disease and her nerves at L4 S5 was compressed .
Apart from local neurosurgeons , we had also taken advise from international neurosurgeons to go for better decision.
So finally after collecting all suggestions we proceeded with the procedure.
We were asked by neurosurgeon to get test of HbA1c for my mother diabetes. Test was performed and result was 10.1
He informed that my mother diabetes was poorly controlled and its quite risky to proceed for her surgery immediately . Since she had severe pain we can give her " Transforaminal steroid shot to control the pain . We were advised to consult endocrinologist to control her diabetes .
This was the similar suggestion given to us by 5 international neurosurgeons prior to spinal surgery.
My mother pain was so severe that we need to take immediate action because sometime she was getting unconscious and her skin color was turning blue due to chronic pain.
We decided to proceed with steroid injection as advised by our neurosurgeon . Injection was given and my mother got relief from her chronic pain. I suggested to keep my mother in hospital for observation after the steroid injection but our surgeon refused this suggestion by saying that it is quite routine procedure and nothing to worry for.
Next morning , my mother started to complain about headaches and similar back pain again. We informed our neurosurgeon and he advised some pain killers . By evening , her condition got worse. Her BP was 200 , High Fever and she was complaining about severe headache . At this time she totally forgot her back and leg pain and her focus was about her headaches . I informed this situation to our neurosurgeon and he asked us to come in emergency . At this time my mother started to experience hallucination and altered mental condition.
We took her to hospital with these symptoms where doctors performed multiple test ( CT SCAN , MRI with Contrast) and they came to know that she has developed "Bacterial Meningitis with hydrocephalus " also she got abscess pockets at her epidural layers of spinal cord.
it was totally shocking for us and upon asking the neurosurgeon , he simply replied that she has Spinal Abscess prior to injection and it was misdiagnosed as Sciatica pain. Steroid injection has trigged the infection .
We were advised to proceed with immediate surgery to drain the abscess . Surgery went well and my mom pain started to reduce. Now next thing was Hydrocephalus which was causing pressure on heart . He also advised to pass the shunt to remove excessive water from brain. We proceeded with this advise as well . Her surgery went well . After spending 9 days in ICU now my mom is feeling better and conscious but she developed short term memory issue.
After two weeks of follow up visit , neurosurgeon performed some test again and noticed that Abscess was coming again.
He suggested us to proceed for second surgery immediately and we followed his advised.
She was getting better but her hydrocephalus was not getting cured. She was on medicine for that.
Almost near to her recovery from second surgery , she contracted by Covid 19 and her symptoms were severe due to immune deficiency .
I lost my mother on 12th oct 2020 due to cardiac arrest at Covid 19 ICU.
I did my best to save her life but all my efforts were in vain.
Now ever day almost i am getting these episodes of panic attacks and I am blaming myself that i could have taken better steps to save her life. I really did my best but my inner me is not accepting it and I feel that I am left with no purpose to continue my life . i am breathing but i am lifeless now.
I am getting suicidal thoughts as well . I am blaming myself a lot.

I’ve had sciatica for almost 2 years now. First started feeling it in summer of 2021 as i’m a frequent concert goer. I have no clue how i got it.
I’m 20 years old with 2 herniated disc. (x-rays r done) I’m 6’1 and 180 lbs. I’ve had the epidural procedure once and it wasn’t as scary as I thought, pretty quick as well. With some good physical therapy i got literally back to a 9/10 shape. With the occasional ghost feeling of the sciatica pains or actual pains here and there nothing too crazy.
Flash forward to 2023 and i’m watching this video wondering if I should get another epidural injection? My pain has gotten severe again and i’m no longer being able to sleep on my bed as well as bend over. I have lost some major mobility. Also probably going to start physical therapy soon.
I’m going to be very sad if i can’t attend festivals this summer 😭

I've worked at a warehouse for the past couple of years in an overworked environment. Pulling around on pallets weighing up to 2,000 to 3,000 pounds, stacking 30-pound packages of product for half of the day each day and I probably lifted 125,000 30-pound packages in 1.5 years. Some as high as nearly 7 feet above the head by the dozens each day. At 38 years old, my MRI shows only the L4-5 area has very little disc material in it and the L5S1 has some fluid around it from somewhere. I have trouble standing up straight and walking properly, sciatica down both legs, numbness on both sides of my legs and the official injury happened in latter 2020. Insurance took forever and the first worker's comp doc didn't do anything helpful. Physical therapy for over a month with TENS and cold laser therapy wasn't helpful. It made it hurt even more.
I have autonomic dysfunction symptoms since late 2019, not quite a year after starting that job. I've been told by various docs that the back can't cause that, but I also have a lot of issues with my bowels, bladder and legs with a weird walking gait. Could this be related to my injured vertebrae?
Will the epidural injection help anything on a permanent basis when there's very little disc between the L4-5 at all? Some degeneration was aggravated by all of the lifting at work. Will the epidural help and after 6 months of waiting after the injury, will the numbness, pain and intermittent burning and tingling in my legs go away after the injection?

I hated it lol probably because I’d never felt this before in my back so it just made me uncomfortable but it’s really not that painful. They numb the area but you can still tell when they are putting the steroid in and I really can’t describe the feeling but I hated it🤣. Didn’t have too much pain following the injection Though. The harsh prescription drugs just barely take the edge off the pain. I'm going in for epidural next week and followed by MRI and physical therapy. If the results are short lived, looks like surgery will be my last resort. The interesting part is that its easier and less painful for me on my motorcycle rather than my car. I had a fusion done 1 year ago and that did not help with relief. I am able to function but it is a chore to feel good and pretend I have energy. I was very active and in great shape before. Doctor told me it was still not corrected and would need another surgery. I'm thinking about getting on anebolic steroids possibly HGH I hear it helps with injuries.

After reading some of the horror stories I decided against it. I live in chronic pain at 42 and can no longer do things like home repair or painting or basic stuff a normal man should be doing. It sucks, I can't even stand for more than 10 mins or it feels like someone is driving a rail road spike into my lower back. I just don't get these doctors.. I couldn't get out of bed for 5 to 6 months without sweating , dry heaving, but only to eat, bathroom, or take a sleeping pill. After 6 months my body finally numbed my senses to reduce the feeling of the pain so I could stand up again without puking or falling over. many days I wish for death just so the pain will stop, praying not to wake up tomorrow.
