I love your attitude, your video making skills and your capacity for making extreme hard work look like a whole lot of fun - never stop being an inspiration to the rest of us
Wow that was awesome. I’m so jealous of your “home roads” - bears, forests, mountains and lakes. I can see a lot of work went into this so thanks. I did a short YT video earlier in the week of a recent cycle ride and that took ages to edit together.
Indeed, the island we call home is remarkable! Most Vancouver Islanders have not explored even a fraction of what is here. Bike packing is an awesome way to see it! For an alternate adventure I have thought the VI spine trail would be a fun one to do if a person had the time for a long walk. Welcome back! Adventure is found where you seek it.
@@CascadiaDog Thanks! I actually started creating my route by using the Spine Trail. Then I took out the bits that didn't seem pleasant with a bike and decided to run them later :). It looks like an awesome route but some bits I'd rather bike and some bits I'd rather run... what to do! :)
@@JennyTough_ Is your route saved on RWGPS or elsewhere? I want to tour the N. Island. I've cycled the paved roads from Renfrew to Hardy, but now I want to do the back roads. But there are too many choices. I'd do the Tree to Sea except for the Tahsis to Zeballos part!
Jenny, you're too cool to be true. :) Seen lots of bikepacking videos and staff, but you're simply the best. Love your videos; short but real, raw and true - insping in a good way. Take care! ;)
Once again you've hit that sweet spot with some of your landscape shots and you've let the camera linger just a little longer. It lets the viewer drink in your backyard. Excellent choice of music too.
hello from Japan! I just started making some bikepacking videos and have been exploring the roads near home as well. Just wanted to say that your shots really inspire me. keep riding and stay safe!
Jenny Tough yeah for sure. Becoming more in tune with our immediate surroundings and what’s on our doorstep has been really nice. And I absolutely love looking at maps!! So a good excuse! Cheers. Look forward to seeing more adventures
That was a lovely video Jenny. It looks so beautiful there, and I would totally do that adventure. It good to see you in your comfort zone out in nature and being resourceful. Just great wonderful. You shot this in a way that gives a good flavor of what goes on in a bikepacking trip.
Lovely video, just lovely! It's obvious that you put a lot of effort into your videos, and they are a huge inspiration to pack my bags and get outside. I would guess that at last half of my biking trips are motivated by watching one of your videos and thinking "hmmm, maybe I should...." And then I'm on my way :-)
I encountered my first mama bear and cub last Saturday between Athabasca Falls and Jasper, riding along the Parkway. Luckily they ran back off the road to the tree line. The cub ran up a tree and mama stood guard. Normally that highway is packed full of annoying tourists but it was much quieter on that trip! As I stood there watching the bear, making sure it was safe to continue, a car slowed down from behind me and made sure I got by safely! I was nervous at first because of the cub but it was a cool experience once I knew that I wasn't getting chased!!
We toured from Calgary heading west to Vancouver Island - magnificent country. Our first black bear sighting was worth the cost of the trip, by the end we didnt bother stopping to see bears!!
Oh to be stuck on Vancouver Island right now! I did a bikepacking tour of the Sunshine Coast and gulf islands last year with my dog. Best 2 months of our lives so far! Zora trotted all the way, so we did only 20 km per day, took all the back ways, and slept in the tent wild or stealth camping every night (or commando camping when you're up at 4am and packed by 5 before anyone sees you lol). Can't wait to be back on the coast with the bike or the canoe. That is the life.
I have a folding bike (Dahon Mariner), folding kayak (Innova Swing 2), and a folding trailer (Burley Travoy). The bike and trailer fit in the kayak, and the kayak fits on the trailer. And I live in Nanaimo. Imagine the possibilities!
Vancouver Island... There's a very high population of mountain lions on that Island. Cats like chasing moving things. Be careful in mornings and evenings.
Any chance of sharing the route you took? The minute the border reopens I want to be on the first ferry over from Seattle. I love riding on Vancouver Island though I’ve never been north of Duncan.
Hi Jenny subscribed about a couple of months back ... I've got a gravel bike with gearing 30-46 with 11-34 on the rear .. what you riding on yours please... watched some of your vids .. awesome 👌
Woooow, this is amazing, nice adventure ❤️ I rarely go on a solo bike adventure, i get bored half the way through. What do you usually do or listen to stay motivated till the end ? Other than pedaling 😂😂 Let's hear from you. really enjoyed watching your adventures. Thanks ❤️
Thanks so much! Well, I guess long days of riding aren't for everyone, so don't beat yourself up if you get bored! But I do just like the meditative quality of a long bike ride. I do sometimes listen to music, podcasts, or even audio books, but mainly if I'm on a road and the car traffic noise is putting me off. In the forest it's nice to just listen to the birds and be quiet sometimes. Depends on my mood of course! :)
Thank you for sharing this beautiful video! If you have the time, could you talk about your bike in more details? I'm looking for a bike to do the kind of adventures like this one in this video. I'm a hiker, so I have the rest of the gear, but I can't decide about the bike. If you give the makes and model I can google it. Thank you very much! If you don't have the time, it's ok, too!🌹
Curious; why did you opt for a standard power train when Shand offers Rohloff hubs / carbon belt drives? I’m debating a switch to Rohloff w/ belt drive for my next adventure, what pros/cons insights do you have. Thank you, Jenny!
Hey Tommy! So I do race with this bike (recently Atlas Mountain Race, the drivetrain still what's on there) and find standard gears more suitable to mountain bike racing, especially in parts of the world where a Rohloff simply cannot be repaired if the belt breaks (I know they're not meant to, but now and then they do!). I think for long-term touring, a Rohloff certainly has strong merits, but for high-performance riding I just prefer normal gearing! Thanks :)
Great video! We’re planning our trip for this spring. Looks like you have the same route as another vlogger. Did you go as far as Port Alice? Any reco?
My brother lives on the Island! Looks like I will be planning a ride up that way when this Pandemic settles here in the US. Any chance on getting the route you used?
Lovely. I can’t describe it any different. Thank you so much for sharing this :)
And an excellent front door it is. Thanks for bringing us along.
I love your attitude, your video making skills and your capacity for making extreme hard work look like a whole lot of fun - never stop being an inspiration to the rest of us
Refreshing scenes and nature is - certainly - the perfect medicine in these times. Always ride safe🚴
Thanks (from New Brunswick) for the inspiration to get get out.
Fantastic, im a new sub, and gosh...loved that so much....thanks
Wow that was awesome. I’m so jealous of your “home roads” - bears, forests, mountains and lakes. I can see a lot of work went into this so thanks. I did a short YT video earlier in the week of a recent cycle ride and that took ages to edit together.
Thanks so much! Yeah we pretty much have a couple of paved roads and the rest is logging infrastructure :)
I like your video. Really well made and nice trip 🏞️
Great video...excellent camera work.

Wow thanks so much Dario :)
I say "wow" and "thank you"! :) Don't know you, but I totally like you. Please, keep posting your adventures. :)
that looked awesome!!! Planning a trip from Nanaimo to Port Alberni or further! Your trip looked awe inspiring!!
NIce video. I did a similar route the other month to Cape Scott. Certainly a nice network of trails that we have.
Once again you've hit that sweet spot with some of your landscape shots and you've let the camera linger just a little longer. It lets the viewer drink in your backyard. Excellent choice of music too.
great video, thanks. It is one thing to have freedom, it's another to know how to use it. You're teaching how.
Suddenly motivated to pack my seat bag and roll out for a tour. Solid work! Love that area.
Looks like great bike Adventure

Beautiful production!!❤
This was really lovely! Makes me want to come and ride my bike there!!
Excellent video. I love seeing my Province from the eyes of another. BC is really special, isn't it? ❤️⛰️
Wow! Beautiful places indeed! Lucky you! :)
Lovely adventure. BC looks amazing. Am excitedly planning a few trips from home for the next few months... thanks for sharing
Thanks Leon! Glad to hear it... It's perhaps a silver lining getting to look deeply at our local maps and pic some new challenges and adventures :)
Jenny Tough yeah for sure. Becoming more in tune with our immediate surroundings and what’s on our doorstep has been really nice. And I absolutely love looking at maps!! So a good excuse! Cheers. Look forward to seeing more adventures
It is so relaxing to watch your video after a long bike ride. Nope my rides are not as adventurous. My biggest concerns are the potholes. :)

This makes me want to try bike packing when I get more in shape. 😁 Loved the video! #beautifulbc
Awesomeness !
Enjoy the wilderness 💯🇺🇸🙏
awesome. lovely film. thanks for sharing. makes me want to come back to bc for a trip.
Nice job on setting up all the riding shots. It takes a lot of work to get them.
Nice work! Got out myself for the first time since lockdown, no bears but the Badgers are extremely viscous 😁 Cheers from 🇬🇧
Great video! This looks like a great place to explore!
Nice video. Would love to see your route if you don't mind sharing it!
I wish I had this from my front door!
We toured from Calgary heading west to Vancouver Island - magnificent country. Our first black bear sighting was worth the cost of the trip, by the end we didnt bother stopping to see bears!!

You're awesome!
What a lovely trip, wanna make me go outside and go on adventure as well :)
Thanks so much Peter! Happy adventuring :)
Awesome!
Great stuff👏, thank u! How did u manage to keep the bears away? There're plenty of them on Vancouver Island, I admire your courage👍
Total respect.
This is nice social distancing!
Can you please share your route? Thank you!
Hi jenny i love you bike Adventure ❤️ from Philippines
It's wonderful, thanks Jenny, I would go on your "home roads"! Little question, what is your sunglasses? Thanks again.

Fantastic. Inspiring. It's been quite a year! I hope we still get some clear weather after this little bout of rain.

Boredom is a state of mind. You need to change the way you experience things and this is mainly a change of attitude.
Brilliant
If you go to Quadra Island check out Naked bikes they do custom.interesting spot to check out have great adventure.🇨🇦🚴♂️
Ooh I don't know them! Will look out for.. thanks! :)
Jenny Tough Naked bikes are Herriot bay
this is so cool! I live in Abbotsford, and want to do a Vancouver island bike packing trip. Any advice on your route? Could you share your route?
I just did iron horse and naches pass in washington and damn I’d love to do vancouver island if the border wasn’t closed

Adventure is not about the gear or kit you have.
Love this! What essential equipment to you take with you? I'm really keen to try this as I live in England by the Yorkshire dales.
Jenny’s most recent vid (before this one) details her kit.
Thanks Rob! What Tommy said - I did a kit post partway through this trip :)

Could you post the Komoot link? :)
It's awesome ! I had one question , how many camera's did you need to shoot this video 😅
Nice, portugal.
Did you shoot all this yourself or did you have someone else with you?
Hungry bear + sleep outside = CANCELLED ;-)
