I listened to this while walking around NYC. I was fortunate to be able to pop into Saint Patrick’s Cathedral at Christmas time while listening. I pressed pause on the podcast, prayed, lit a candle and stood in silence taking in the beauty of the architecture and the incredible space that it is. Seemed like an experience worth sharing here.

As a fellow Catholic I'm finding it kind of adorable (in a good way) to watch how proud of himself Michael looks (in a good way) to be able to hold his own in a conversation with Bishop Barron. Like a son aware he's impressing his father.
I agree immensely! I mean, in a spiritual way, he absolutely is! It's the same kind of feel as Spencer Klavan talking with his own father. Pretty cool!
@@tolkeinlewis3546 read bishop Barrons response. He’s laid out everything for the German bishops who want to marry gay people everything the Church is able to do through tradition and scripture. The German church will likely disregard and do it anyway and start a schism.

Merry Christmas y’all, very cool and deep conversation between these two. I started listening to Bishop Barron earlier this year when I saw his interview with Shia Lebouf, highly recommend that for people who’ve enjoyed movies he’s been in. My family is Catholic but only some actually practice it, the others are more of that Latino Catholic in culture and not in faith so much, me personally, I only came to Christ close to two years ago and I’ve grown so much. Even being a non denominational Christian, there’s so much knowledge and wisdom that can be found in well read catholic disciples like these two, and I’ve come to find that really, true wisdom comes from God and having a relationship with Him and reading His Word is the main way but not the only way to access that knowledge, it can be found in great conversations like this. God bless y’all and Merry Christmas again
Wonderful and thought provoking dialogue! Contributes to what I truly believe and that is "Seek and you shall find... knock and the door shall be open....." Thank you Michael Knowles and Bishop Barron! Merry Christmas!
I like to keep my tree up into January. January is pretty desolate and needs some cheer and light. Besides it just makes me happy to see all the lights and colors and festivity.
Jan 6 is the Feast of the Epiphany (Wise Men), and the “end” of the Christmas liturgical season. So keep that tree up, and maybe exchange a gift or two on the Feast of the Three Kings.

Gave our 15 year old Bishop Barons 3 Word on Fire books for Christmas. He has the leather bound editions. He was over the moon when he discovered why his present was so absurdly heavy, lol
Where history meets myth, the literal meets the metaphorical, the physical meets the metaphysical, and reason and philosophy meet faith and revelation, so too has the logos become flesh. The greatest gift isn't under the tree, it's in the manger. Merry Christmas everyone!
I Poland we celebrate Christmas for 3 days- Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Saint Stephan- first martyr of the Catholic Church. Then we have the feast of Holy Family, San Silvester- one of greatest Popes and then the feast of 3 Kings who came to visit Jesus and brought gifts. 🎄❤️Merry Christmas

Hi Michael! Just wanted to tell you and Bishop Barron how much I enjoyed today’s podcast, both the subject matter and Bishop Barron’s and your comments on same. Thanks, and merriest and blessed Christmas to you and your fam!
Tho I am not a Catholic, I truly enjoy Bishop Barron. He keeps our interest on deep thinking subjects that beautifully challenge our minds and hearts to surrender ourselves to our Lord which is soooooooo needed at this time. However, I feel I have to convict his host here as speaking Latin IDs etc is fine, when overused, you lose us just enough to break a beautiful thread of insight that you wanting us to get. This is my only criticism. I hope this is helpful as us everyday people NEED to hear and get and be able to ponder what you both are offering. These are deeply beautiful offerings and thank our Lord that both of you are here and doing this! ❤
I can’t wait to have my confirmation saint be Augustine of Hippo. His book, Confessions, I can’t really say what it did and still does for me in fear that I might cheapen it with words that don’t measure up. If you haven’t read it, do. ❤
He will most certainly be a wonderful Confirmation Saint for you, as he is for me! His Confessions are beautiful, and it’s been fantastic to read with a small group at the church I attend currently. God bless you and Merry Christmas!
Sometimes when I’m going through my daily life and it seems like all the voices around me are screaming for self-worship or the adoration of self-pride, it is truly such a comfort to listen to these men speak of Christ worship and adoration of the True King.
Have a Very Merry Christmas Michael you and your beautiful family and ALL Patriots 🎄☃️ and a wonderful, blessed, healthy New Year 🎊🎉🎇 Remember the Gift of Jesus Christ 🙏✝️
Merry Christmas! If anyone struggles with the incarnation of our Lord Jesus, they should read “On The Incarnation” by St. Athanasios. St. Athanasios explains the Incarnation of Jesus in a way that Jew and Gentile may come to understand. I loved the explanation of the Nativity through the lens of the fulfillment of Jewish prophecy. This is an essential topic in the fast of the Nativity in our church every year! God bless you Bishop Baron and Micheal form a Coptic Orthodox brother.
Hospitality may be one of the oldest examples of humanity at our best--when we welcome someone into our home to meet and break bread with fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, and babies. The greatest compliment may be to come again. To wait for the guest's return. And is that not the ending of the Bible? To remind ourselves how extraordinary was God's visit to us and why we ought to welcome him back. Well said, Bishop. Christmas is an assertion that the incarnation was an event that happened in time and at a particular place. This is most brilliantly on display in the words of the Christmas Proclomation from the Roman Martyrology:
"The Twenty-fifth Day of December,
when ages beyond number had run their course
from the creation of the world,
when God in the beginning created heaven and earth,
and formed man in his own likeness;
when century upon century had passed
since the Almighty set his bow in the clouds after the Great Flood,
as a sign of covenant and peace;
in the twenty-first century since Abraham, our father in faith,
came out of Ur of the Chaldees;
in the thirteenth century since the People of Israel were led by Moses
in the Exodus from Egypt;
around the thousandth year since David was anointed King;
in the sixty-fifth week of the prophecy of Daniel;
in the one hundred and ninety-fourth Olympiad;
in the year seven hundred and fifty-two
since the foundation of the City of Rome;
in the forty-second year of the reign of Caesar Octavian Augustus,
the whole world being at peace,
JESUS CHRIST, eternal God and Son of the eternal Father,
desiring to consecrate the world by his most loving presence,
was conceived by the Holy Spirit,
and when nine months had passed since his conception,
was born of the Virgin Mary in Bethlehem of Judah,
and was made man:
The Nativity of Our Lord Jesus Christ according to the flesh."
