So right! It is the typical college freshmen thinking they are the first to learn something new to them.
As a Jew, let me say THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU SAID ABOUT HANUKAH! I'm tired of having to tell people, THEY'RE NOT EVEN REMOTELY CLOSE TO EACH OTHER. In fact, since the Jewish calendar works differently than the standard calendar, it lands on different dates with respect to Christmas. I seem to remember one year in my life in which they were a month apart.
One year it fell on Thanksgiving lol
@@knghtcmdr😂
I think you can thank certain rabbis who tried to bring it to more prominence as an alternative to Christmas.
You know they follow the Gregorian calendar, so of course its not the same , it’s just they lie about yeshuas birth, the thing is, that’s when Tammuz was born. but our calendar changes and isn’t the same for all the feast every year, and personally I follow the creators calendar. But as a follower of Yeshua, that’s not when he was born, it was during the fall feast.... sukkot the manger was in a sukkah. The sheep and animals were still out . And to say he was born on a twisted pagan day is a slap in his face and he was a Jew who followed all the feats of the lord! Including Chanukah!
So what does hanaka celebrate?
As someone with Norwegian family, the first one hurt. Odin did not fly around giving people gifts. He usually only flew his horse (Slepnir) around over battles looking for good warriors to recruit for Ragnarok (end of the world).

Warriors.....the gift that keeps on giving.
I was a little taken back when they said "a pagan god named Odin" cuz isn't Odin a huge deal in paganism?
As a Dane, it hurt me too 😂

As someone who has driven horse drawn vehicles, I can tell you that the bells on the harness/sleigh were/are safety features. Because a sled can be going quite fast and still make very little noise - particularly if it is snowing because falling snow will further muffle any sound made by the horse drawing the sleigh.
We romanticize them now because so few people have ever been in a horse drawn vehicle for any length of time much less an actual horse drawn sled. The bells can be quite annoying if you have to spend any amount of time hearing them. The only reason to put up with such a noise and to train your horses to put up with it is because it is a necessary safety feature. At least in my opinion.
We used horses for transport summer and winter and the bells got tied on the collars on Halloween morning preparing for the snow. My first real date was on horse back, we went to the dairy bar.

Just because her father died doesnt make this a cute story. Just because she has fond memories of doing something racist doesn't mean it is wholesome. I am not saying she should be attacked. But also we dont have to respect her "right" to fondly remember racist activities.
@@Hendek746"I am not saying she should be attacked. But also we don't have to respect her 'right' to fondly remember racist activities." So, which is it? How do you not respect her right to fondly remember her racist activities? Either you respect her right to remember her fond memories and NOT attack her, or you attack her.
Also, even if you're offended, she 90 YEARS OLD! Nobody who is that age deserves to be attacked even if she is actually racist. (I would argue though that she is likely not racist.)

Ever considered the parallels between Santa and the Devil? Apart from being an anagram of Satan, Satan was derived from Saturn (again, Saturnalia, the feast of Saturn), then there's St Nicholas, while the Devil is also known as Old Nick. Goes deeper - there's the legend of Black Peter, the Santa figure for the naughty kids..But aside from that, they're both traditionally depicted wearing red.
@@alistairogilvy7696a lot of people are traditionally depicted as wearing red. “Santa” means “saint” in Germanic languages. It is not an anagram of Satan lol 😂 Santa Klaus = Saint Nicholas. Nothing to do with Satan. But secular Santa also has almost nothing to do with St. Nick so there’s that
@meganpata9033 strictly speaking, it is an anagram. Take the 'n' from the end of Satan, drop it in the middle of the word - hey presto. Yes, Santa means 'saint' in the Teutonic languages - of which English is one, however Santa Claus is of very modern derivation - circa 1900. And it's Sinter Klaas, not Santa Klaas. I'm just pointing out the parallels. And Satan was derived from Saturn - which, astrologically holds you to the consequences of your actions, good or bad - paralleling the 'naughty vs nice' theme of Xmas, and the Black Peter flipside of the jolly fat man (modern invention, ofc), who punishes the naughty children. The archetypal resemblances are fairly clear, including the Saint Nick/Old Nick which I pointed out.
Can we also mention the fact that St. Nicolas was born in 270 AD and the vikings didn't come around until 793 AD...

@@biokido575 Torah and Christianity predate Norse mythology.

Child sex trafficking?? That’s very specific for a 4th century saint
In the Netherlands, Saint Nicholas' day is celebrated on December 5th, one day before his passing. It got contaminated with elements from folklore, and for the past few years activists have been trying to change it (blackface is used, as per a German(?) tale).
Sadly, a lot of history surrounding St Nicholas hasn't been proven or is just myth.

@@dezertfox3681 There is no prophecy about Hanukkah, what are you talking about? Hanukkah celebrates the victory in the war against the Greeks who conquered the Land of Israel and banned the existence of the Jewish religion. In this war, a minority of Jewish rebels miraculously defeated the huge armies of Greece and established a Jewish kingdom that reigned for more than 200 years. Michael, when you talked about the star at 5:32, I was reminded of something my dad (a pastor) mentioned: it is believed by some scholars that when Daniel was appointed head of the magi in Babylon by Nebuchadnezzar, he taught the magi to look for that star. How incredible that God would be putting in place pieces of a plan hundreds of years away from conception… that during the age of silence that Israel put itself into (marked by the Babylonian Exile), God would prepare a new and final way, for use after Nehemiah’s rebuilding and the return of the people to Israel. The truth is, Jesus broke that age of silence. How humbling this eternal design is!!

Much to your dismay, you're actually in the wrong here. The workplace was merely detaching the Christian undertones from the festivity as to uphold the principle of separation of church and state. No atheist in your workplace should be compelled to promote religious propaganda.
@@TryingtoTellYou Santa Claus isn't "religious propaganda." Pretty much every atheist I know enjoys Santa Claus as a symbol of Christmas detached from the religious significance of the holiday. While St. Nicolas was a Christian man, his act of charity would be recognized as a good deed in every single worldview except Machiavellianism. If the Character of Santa Claus is considered propaganda despite promoting no religion and being loosely inspired by a godly man's desire to spread happiness, then they should simply ignore any feeling of goodwill altogether and be miserable, lest doing anything to brighten the mood find itself connected to Christianity

This reminds me of the modern day manufactured holidays of both Kwanzaa and Festivus (among so many others).
It is funny that anytime people see a pagan festivity or practice that is similar to a Christian festival or practice, automatically the Christians ‘stole’ it from pagans. Even if the timeline is way off, the similarities are very superficial and stretched to near falsehood.
People really need to actually research claims and use common sense.
Great analogy.
Saturnalia was celebrated on the winter solstice since well before 200 B.C. It was likely celebrated long before recorded history, but it is only around that time that we have writings describing changes made to the holiday. How it used to just be the single day on the solstice itself, but around 200 B.C. it became a week long celebration. If you look at the activities surrounding the solstice, you will find the exchanging of gifts, decorating trees, and feasts. The Feast of Sol Invictus is simply a renaming of these celebrations much like how the Feast of Dedication is now more commonly referred to as Hanukkah. If you look into it, Hanukkah didn't start to become popular until around the 1800s, but the Feast of Dedication is so old that Jesus himself participated in it. What Michael did here is akin to trying to claim that Hanukkah was created as an alternative to Christmas as well, when it is far more apt to say this goes the other way around.
Why are they so fixated on Paganism and adamant to defend it when Paganism was created to make a class divide. While Christianity preached equality, which is how it spread. It started with the lower class in Rome.
@@everyonesfavoritesejong What are you going on about? No one here is defending Paganism. I am criticizing Catholicism for doing exactly what Jesus criticized the Pharisees over, combining the teachings of men with the teachings of God and misleading His people. Catholicism is a bastardization of Christianity in that it tries to combine pagan teachings and customs with True Christian teachings from the Bible. And oddly enough many of those pagan teachings are exactly contrary to Biblical teachings.
"What are the lyrics?" -MK
I recall it going something like this:
"Jingle Bells, Batman smells, Robin laid an egg! The Batmobile lost a wheel, the Joker got away! Hey!"
I see nothing racist in it.
Another version. Jingle bells batman smells robin flew away kojak lost his lollypop and bought a milky way
In Eastern Europe, St Nicholas Day (7th of December) is almost like a trailer for what Christmas would be 18 days later in the year. As kids, we would leave our winter boots out on the doormat, and St Nicholas would leave candy in them overnight.
Merry Christmas, Michael
Just because one story contains elements or events of another does not mean that one story copied another.
It simply means they have some similarities.
For example: If I wear a red hat in public, and a random man called Dave wears a red hat, does not mean one of us copied the other.
Indeed. Often these arguments show a poor grasp of logic and formation of arguments, and little understanding of how to consider evidence and causation. It's pretty obvious to me that they don't have any training in studying history whatsoever.
Whoever edits these videos needs a raise 😂
Yes, this video especially! Riotously funny! Christmas bonus for this editor or team please!
Great presentation!
I never have any issues with people saying "Merry Christmas" or "Happy Holidays". I'm a Messianic Jew and I celebrate both Hanukkah and Christmas. Because they're always so close together (and will occasionally overlap each other), my family generally just combines the two and do 'Merry Christmukkah" and "Happy Hanumas".
But yeah, you're totally right. We know in the Gospel of John that Jesus celebrated Hanukkah and that it's important to the history of the Jewish people, but its importance is small compared to the feasts ordained by God in the Bible.
My favorite part of Hanukkah is dreidel and the jelly donuts.
12:11 🤣 Love Ben Shapiro creeping up in the background when Michael says Hanukkah isn’t important.
@12:13 LMFAO whoever edits these videos is hilarious.. i love lil ben appearing when he says hannukah is not that important
And a Merry Advent to you Michael!
The SpongeBob pagan bit had me cry-laughing, I needed that today 😂
I noticed that the first star that she showed had 5 points. The one on the tree had 6 points. And that star is usually called the Star of David.
But she's so far in her own delusions that she can't get it.

Nope, not at all. The first reference to a Yule log actually comes from 1648 in Robert Herrick’s Hesperides poetry collection where he calls it a “Christmas log,” with it being referred to as a “Yule-log or Xtmass block” in John Aubrey’s Remaines of Gentilsme and Judaisme forty years later in 1686.
The name change was because the term “Yule” was a term for the midwinter period in England and was not intended to harken back to an ancient, pagan festival in Norway.
How about La bouche de Noelle
@@lesliepage3886 bûche de Noël is the French cake roll decorated as log usually served at Christmas (Noël) time. Bouche is French for mouth.
@@kathleenkirchoff9223 yep 👍
When it arrives, I wish you and yours a very merry Christmas! 🎄
I hadn't heard the Odin comparison before. Hilarious.
To be fair "Santa Claus" is a false idol .
@@loveoflearning936 It is a figure that is more associated with Christmas than JC in modern times , he is literally a false idol.
@Levan Mikadze by secularists yes, but most Christian’s don’t see him that way
@@thesquiddler Whatever it is , it is majority of this country for sure and problem is , he is mainly designed to target children, he also is a reason of imprinting greed and entitelment from young age , obviously not everyone trats it as such , but unfortunately most in modern times do .
I just love hearing all these people coming up with their own version of history, as though their perspective into the happenings of events transpired a different way that we remember. I think some people have been watching "Ancient Aliens" too much LOL
Nothing pisses me off more than people that literally make up history and then act like their right
You immediately earned a 👍 with "Merry Advent", I've never liked a video so fast lol
I learn so much from your shows!
I like how BEN pops out when Michael is talking about Christmas and Hannukah.
How you sat through all of this without your brain exploding is beyond me. 🤯
It’s Christ’s Mass. I wish the Knowles family a happy and blessed Christmas and many blessings in the New Year.
Merry Christmas! 🎄
I love learning history with MIchael and Andrew Klavan. Sol Invictus sounds a lot like Kwanzaa. Sort of hey those people are having a good time; I want to have a good time too; I'll make up my own holiday that is sort of like theirs.
Julian the Apostate: those Christians, whom I hate, are having a good time. How do we lure them back to paganism?
You know, it seems a lot more likely the bells would have been put on the sleigh so you could hear it coming. Just in case you couldn't see it through the snow or in the dark. Sounds usually travel well in cold air, so it would have been really effective and probably kept a lot of people from being hit by sleighs while they were walking around in the winter.
But I guess Jeremy's Razors aren't the only ones some people avoid. Poor old Occam has been trying to sell his with little success this past decade or so. :P
As a former Jehovah's Witness, i appreciate you doing this video. Thank you, Michael.
Thank you 👍👍🙏
