Easy Steamed Wontons - With Chilli Oil and Dumpling Sauce

  • Spicy steamed Wontons with Homemade chilli oil and a soy & vinegar based dumpling sauce. Surprisingly easy to make.
    Recipe
    Dumpling Sauce:
    2 tbsp dark soy sauce
    1 tbsp white vinegar
    1 tbsp white or brown sugar
    1/2 tsp chilli oil (as much or as little as you like)

    Wontons:
    100g (3.5oz) raw prawns, chopped
    100g (3.5oz) chicken mince
    5g (0.18oz) fresh coriander, chopped
    1 garlic clove, chopped
    1 tsp oyster sauce
    1 tsp soy sauce
    1/4 tsp white pepper
    1/2 whole egg, for filling
    1 tbsp corn flour
    3 garlic cloves, sliced
    1 pack wonton sheets / skin
    1/2 whole egg, for brushing
    coriander leaves, for garnish
    1. To make the spicy dumpling sauce, combine all the ingredients in a bowl
    2. For the filling, place chicken mince, chopped prawns, coriander, garlic, oyster sauce, soy sauce, white pepper, corn starch and 1/2 egg. Mix until smooth and sticky
    3. Brush wonton wrappers with left over whole egg and place 1 tbsp of filling in to the middle.
    4. The fold, first lift and press the edges of 2 opposite corners together,
    lift the remaining opposite corners to form a small package.
    5. Line a aluminium steamer with baking paper and place wontons on it without them touching
    Bring the water to a full boil before steaming the wontons for around 10 minutes.
    6. Fry sliced garlic on medium heat using vegetable oil. Strain excess oil
    7. Place steamed wontons in a bowl or plate and and serve with dumpling sauce, add roasted garlic and coriander. Add as much or as little chilli oil as you like
