I had no idea these older XJ6 seem to have a really simple robust maintenance. Makes me excited to buy one as a second car as a somewhat hand car guy

Yes same here, if i pulled orff too quick there was a stutter, it would pull away then feel if it was going to cut out then launch into rocket mode, all cleaned out and now it is smooove thanks to Jesse;)

Exactly what I need! The transmission light turned on on my XJ40 and they say to check the throttle position sensor.

Removing a throttle body on a XJ40 is a little bit different. I’ll try and make a video for it next week

Thanks for the great video! Any chance you could do one on the X300 sunroof mechanism? I rebuilt mine with parts from a U Pull, but I can only get it to work without the large headliner panel inserted. It works perfectly without it, but once I insert the big panel it jams up for some reason…
I’m sure I’m not the only one that would appreciate that video, as it’s quite a common issue apparently!

video was perfect, but one thing is strange: I do the job, and first time I start the car, the idle was at 2000/2500 rpm, and I noticed it while getting out of a small parking... Finally I stop the car, then restart and idle was normal again. Had to try another time. perhaps just some cleaner staying on the sensor

So it appear the throttle spring don't like the operation and now had no power to bring back the idle under 1000 rpm. Seems it's common issue on X300 cause jaguar change the spring reference. Could also come from the throttle plate that don't shut but I put some elastic to help the spring and no more problem; I had to find a new spring or add a turn to the existing one

I went through this process after I noticed it started bogging down at idle but now I’m having an issue where the rpm’s will drop even while doing 70 on the highway then immediately over revving without me giving it throttle. I’m thinking of replacing the 4th coil as it was misfiring but I’m also thinking it maybe a vacuum leak.. any suggestions or insight?

I’ve got a 97 Vanden Plas when I press the gas pedal it won’t accelerate would this be another cause of a sensor failure or it being dirty

Hey XJ Jesse, I've got a 1996 XJ6, and there was a melted gasket on the throttle body, so I had to pop it off with a bit of force. Do I need to replace the gasket, or should it be fine to put the throttle body back on without it? I'd venture to say yes since yours seems to be fine without the gasket, but would appreciate your thoughts.

Got a question for you, I picked up a 96 XJ6 not running when I got it,, Now I have got it to run and I've driven it about 80 miles or so in different speeds but I can't clear the Cat, Air, Eva or EGR sensors, It also intermittently gets a misfire code, new coils new plugs new fuel filter I just drove it about another 80 miles & no check eng light no misfire so far but still have the 4 sensor codes & since I'm in CA can't pass smog, would dirty Air sensor cause this????? Appreciate any advice
