- This is my honest review of my Mountfield 1538H ride on lawnmower. We have had this about 14 months and are trading it in as with land that is not flat its not good enough. Do not get me wrong if you have flat lawns this will be fine. But for land that is on a slop or uneven I would get something bigger with a twin engine.
I have a mountfield 13.5 HP single bought in 2006 M35 hydrostatic . I have a granite escarpment in the middle of the property . IThe gradient in parts means you have to go up and down and not sideways as it would kype over . I serviced the hydrostatic unit once with the correct fluid and change the Stiga oil once a season . THe only improvent was to put a proper fuel filter on the inlet to the carb . 2 batteries bought last one Yuasa . It ois a sterling machinew and has done faultless service . All the bad talk of Stiga engines is not my experience . the 13.5 hiorse pulls well on all slopes . I always wanted a 2417 Honda but its 3 times the price. and 17 years is good so far
Lift off the back box, on the right side of the back of the lawnmower is a 4" bit of metal, push it towards the lawnmower and it will work. I do that when I'm washing the deck to let the blades spin. I found my Mountfield does a great job and leaves the lawn looking fantastic.
I got rid of it and bought another mower. Don’t get me wrong it’s a very good mower just with the slope on the land it just struggled. But yes I know about the bit of metal. I have done that to my new mower as don’t use the collector box. I bought a solo 660cc twin Briggs and Stratton engine mower: tractor thing
Have the 1530H,and have had no problems, and do have quite steep slopes.
'F' off chicken!! 🤣🤣
Hilarious
Good fair review though
Glad you enjoyed
I have sort of the same lawn tractor! It's a 2022 Stiga Estate 384 M, it has a single cylinder Stiga engine with 6,3 kw and everything except the colour looks the same. I also not only have slopes to cut but also hills and its no problem at all with my Stiga Estate! I have lowered the scalping wheels on the deck down to the middle hole and it cuts perfect even on uneven lawns. I use the bagger on the back of my tractor all the time since i want to collect my grass, i have also used it without it by bypassing the switch behind the right rear wheel that dons't allow these types of lawn tractors be used without it. I also have a bumpy lawn and it's never a problem since i always mow in 1 and 2 gear and drive slowly and it's very comfortable to ride, handles great and it also have very good build quality in my opinion. The headlights are not pointless because sometimes i mow near the road where i live and i use them to be seen.
Good for you. I got rid of it
Did you get the RPM checked, Alot of the Mountfield come in powdered down.
yes it came from the dealers set up ready to go
Have u done a review on your new mower?
Yes mate
you need a rideon with traction control or 4wd
like a john deere 748
Nothing wrong with what you’ve got, that’s not much of a slope ,what were you hoping for? Wait till that Briggs and scrap it engine starts failing on your next mower, go Honda or Kawasaki if you’re going for two cylinders.
it was struggling to go up the hill badly so had to go.
