Catching some Winter time Blue catfish

- Fishing for blue catfish on the Tennessee river in the Guntersville Lake impoundment. We were fishing on a main channel ledge with skip jack herring in about 40 foot of water, spreading our baits in different depths along the ledge. The technique was anchoring and the rig was a Carolina rig with 6 oz no roll weights.
When I heard that music playing I thought Mean Gene the Fishing Machine was in the boat with you.......😀
I laughed at "Stay tuned to the unfortunate fisherman" because that describes perfectly most of my fishing outings. Great video as always!
lol thanks for the comment jacob
As always, great video Steve. I lived in Huntsville for 8 years in the 80s and really enjoyed the good fishing areas. Love the winter time clear water. Good luck with the engine. Trouble on the water is always a pain. I'll be watching for the next one. Tom
thanks for taking the time to comment Tom.
I would like to say that I enjoy your videos. They have helped me out a lot. In the last month or so I have not had good luck fishing from the bank though. I have been on the Illinois river, and I've tried creek mouths, a 60 foot hole just below a dam, above the dam, warm water discharges, sand flats, mud flats, and steep banks. Shad is scarce this time of year, but Asian carp are aplenty. Sorry to here about the engine. I hope you get it sorted out soon.
thanks, hang in there your day will come. Thanks for the comment
Glad u made it down to guntersville! I live about 10 min away, very nice lake. Looks like u found the big ones! Sorry u had bad luck with the motor , cool video hope you visit big g again.

A Tactic Tip for Cat Fish I`ve not heard you mention as yet and one my GranDad shared with me ,, after your bait has settled on bottom S-l-o-w-l-y drag your bait back toward you for 10-15 feet leaving a Sent Trail , mr. Whiskers will come across your sent trail and follow it str8 to your hook . I`ve truly enjoyed your video`s Steve and learned a few things that have helped me become a wiser man , thank you Sir. , God bless . As granddad would say Hope For The Best And Roll With The Rest , id like to invite you to fish the Santee Cooper Lakes of South Carolina .. Happy trails
Thank God for your trolling motor, I pray it's a quick inexpensive fix on your motor brother.
thanks
I really enjoy your channel, it's very educational and entertaining. I subscribed from the first video that I saw. I hope to launch my own in 2015.
Lowell Hipsher good luck and keep it fun
lowell that was a very nice thing to say GOD BLESS YOU !!
I love fishing that first location in this video!!! Thanks for fishing our river and Guntersville lake!!!
You were right. I finally hooked into some big ones the fist was around 30 lbs (bottomed out 28lb scale). The next was huge at 46 inches long and around 50lbs. The weather was bitterly cold with -7 degrees wind chill. The barometric pressure was high and it was just before a snow storm. My best day fishing so far!
makes for a great day, congrats
Enjoy watch those rod take-down great videos
Do you advise using live shad over dead, or are dead shad just as good? Great informational videos!
Sorry to hear about the engine,,,, do you have any idea what was the water temperature that day
50 degrees
Great video
Can you do some bank fishing videos
Sorry to hear about your boat, get back out on the water soon!
thanks
At 11:15 it sounded like there was gun shots...duck hunters?
Hey Steve , im new to catfishing. I wanna know what is the proper name for that bracket supporting your catfishing rod holders. And where did u buy it .
Rod Bender Catfishing is from Lake Guntersville. Should get together one day and get on some of these good Tennessee river cats!
-Brandon Autwell
Never used rod holders before, but planning to this year. Just use baitcasters with bait runners/clickers turned on. Do you keep the drag "off", or use just enough for the cat to hook itself but still be able to run? Thanks. Great vid as always Steve!!
Good job Hoss! Sucks Ur engine screwed up!!
Hey steve what kind of reel is the gold one you use? I know you like the catmaxx reels but I noticed you also use a gold colored one. What kind of reel is that?
I haven't fished much there because the bass guys tend to crowd that area, I have caught some blues near there though. I didn't really know about that first ledge only that it dropped off into the channel and bottomed out at 62 feet.
what's your preferred brand of engine to power your boats?
When these big cats decompress, which end does the air come out of? Not trying to be a wise guy, just wondered.I'm a shore fisherman, so I've not seen this happen. Hope your motor didn't cost you too much. Miss Lisa could always get a paper route...L.O.L.Or maybe be a pro camera-person, She does a great job shooting your vids. The best on you-tube.
thank you, and lisa smiled when i showed her your comment.
Steve Douglas they burp or decompress from the mouth .
Hey Steve, having trouble finding bait right now, where do you get these skipjack this time of year?
hot water discharges around the industry along the rivers
Steve Douglas Thanks, Appreciate the response!
Blood Brothers I hear ya, there's been times where I couldn't get through the skipjacks to catch anything else. Some of them had been eating so well that they were oily and had a layer of fat under the skin. Winter time is the pits for catching them.
THAT'S SOME GOOD FISHING AND INFO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Steve Tuitasi Thanks Steve
What yellow braid u runnin here Steve?
TuffCat 65lb typically is what he runs
Hello Mr Douglas , have you ever hooked onto any carp while fishing for catfish
I cant say that I have.
What's the name of that song at 7:52 ?
What type of rod holders you are using
Steve am from Alabama and i fish alot at Miller ferry dam is circle hooks good for that
yes circle hooks are good , just let the fish do the hooking, dont jerk.
Thank Steve what size you recommend
id like to see you do some bank fishing videos
