Really satisfying to play and the atmosphere is so good. Also runs and looks beautiful even on the base PS5 and keeps getting free little updates with added stuff to collect and features.

Then you need to run a 2nd time where you don't max out lily's little bar and skip out on Eidos 9. But if you want all the outfits you need 2 runs with maxed out lily bar . Which makes me think I'll have to run 3 times sadly.
The unique atmosphere is what I love about games like this, Nier Automata and stuff like Final Fantasy, I love how rather than using normal stuff like armoured vehicles and weapons like firearms, they use strange machines, crazy technology, massive swords and in those worlds it's just normal for the characters, when I played these games I didn't realise how attached I'd get to the stories.

I only bought this because of reports of how good it is on the Pro. Coming to the end and its my GOTY. I play on Pro Max and it runs great on an LG OLED. Sharpest mode
@@kinghoff316 I haven't really done a deep dive into comparing 60fps and 80fps, but I'm totally fine with 80fps. It definitely smooths out those stuttering movements of enemies running around in the distance. When it comes to image quality, 60fps should definitely be a notch better overall.
I wonder why they didn't use something like FSR originally. I'm usually very much against FSR on consoles, as it usually has so much artifacting it takes away from whatever extra detail it reconstructs, but the pixel crawl of the original is as distracting as any artifacts FSR might have, while having none of the extra detail FSR provides. Given the resolutions at work (1440p -> 4k), we might have actually even seen a mostly stable image from FSR.
FSR might have been fine in the resolution mode since 4K FSR AA is pretty good, but maybe they didn't want to use it at 60fps so they disabled it rather than make it inconsistent
Heh FSR kinda sucks. At least on PC I actually prefer the look of good old linear upscaling than FSR. At least with basic upscaling the image is consistent and devoid of weird artifacts.
Sorry but it’s not really that helpful. I love DF and I love John but the last few weeks has just been PS5 pro videos showing no real difference. I’d never tell anyone what to spend their time on but John could be making awesome DF retro videos and he’s zooming in on spot the difference images instead.
I like how people say the pro doesn't justify the price tag, yet those same people will likely pay 1k or more for an upgrade for their PCs with even less of an impact It's all about diminishing returns, if you want the boost, it's your choice
This is making me really cautiously optimistic about a PC port. It's their first big Unreal game, but they really seem to be taking optimization more seriously than any other current dev

People who saw the staff roll may have noticed that , a large number of SIE staff are involved in this title. It's probably because of their work that we're able to handle PSSR so well. I'm looking forward to the sequel in UE5!
I'm glad you guys are covering this game so much, because the PS5 Pro truly fixes the few minor issues the game had. The fluidity is incredible, and now the textures and draw distance make the game even more beautiful. It almost looks like what they originally intended for the game in terms of both visuals and performance at launch, but the PS5 just wasn't quite capable of achieving that
20:20 Going into a kind of Pro mode in Photo Mode is such a good choice. There are games that have decent photo modes but require you to manually set to Fidelity mode in the game settings before you go into photo mode, which is a terrible oversight, and I was so glad to see it here. There are some glitches in the Photo Mode, however. Their DOF blur implementation only applies the dialed in settings if you're in the "right place", making it pointlessly difficult to actually get the DOF to apply if you aren't in the magic zone. Also, there is a straight up random bug with the filters that locks a filter in place. It's not easy to reproduce, though. They also really really really need to offer custom presets for those doing any serious virtual photography as all the lights have to be positioned and customized every time you enter Photo Mode, so it's impossible to, say, set up a shot, then wait for the next stage of an animation in an attack to play out, re-engage photo mode and just keep going with the same settings. You have to dial EVERYTHING back in EVERY TIME. Same problem with the otherwise diamond-tier _Rift Apart_ photo mode.
DF’s quality standards sure are above mine (maybe I’m in the middle?), but I just love the factual journalism here. I feel informed and it helps me make decisions. I think the thing that messes with me the most is the shimmer etc with upscaling. It really undoes any other improvement:( (Also I become a temporary frame rate snob when watching these, then remembering that I’ve played unstable below 30FPS games and dearly wished for at least stable 30:) *glares at the Switch*)

This was my GOTY next to Space Marine 2, superb optimisation and the studio has kept up good communication and relations with fans. The NieR collaboration was everything I hoped it to be, looking forward to the PC port and what tech upgrades that might bring!
I reckon the PC port will break gamers, I meant they will fall in love with the gameplay and soundtrack. Astro bot is my game of the year, but Stellar Blade is second this is based only what I have played.
@ Astro Bot is absolutely a fine pick for GOTY. If Sony don’t support that studio to make more games like that they’re more stupid than I thought. They out platformed Mario with that gem of a game.
I noticed in some areas, like outdoor wastelands, resolution drops in Pro HFR, where balanced looks sharper so they might be a bit more aggressive with dynamic resolution for that 80fps. Tried turning HFR off and the resolution increased in these cases.
The visuals on a 4k display are insane. This games combat is perfectly built upon and introduced at the right times. If you really learn its systems its so fucking satisfying and jaw dropping to watch. The visuals with the pro are incredible. Amazing resolution and rock solid frame rate. The pro modes are the only way this game should be played. I had high hopes when it wae revealed and I remember alot of apathy. Feels good to see it succeed. This studio did amazing work
I'm fine with my PS5 Slim Balanced mode for now-- I'm just gonna wait for the PC release next year, I've got the necessary hardware ready! With additional tweaks to the graphics settings, I should be seeing framerates possibly even higher than 80, meaning - even less input latency (I struggle a lot with parry/dodge timings enough on a PS5 as it is)!
no words about the artefacts on character in cutscenes if using pssr? look at minute 12.32 at the bottom of the screen. there are a line with black dots. and also artefacts in water if i playing the game. no one speak about it 🤨
6:32 shows what seems SS reflexions beaking in a line at the center of the camera. This happens in pro mode but none of the other modes, even ProMax. I have seen it in other large bodies of water. In the first city after reaching the brigdes the same happens and is even more evident
Don't have a Pro but I got back into the game after initially only playing it for a few hours. The Nier cross over is so good and now the combat catched me again.
Just got the Pro. I had a big bonus from work out of the blue, so why not. Even EA FC 25 looks way better. This console has been underplayed, I’m seeing every single game look and play far better, so far.
I saw some pssr flaws with lightning, in space elevator area where you met Arisa , you see "flash" everywhere. it might be one of the few area it doesn't work at all but clearly not as good as this video conclude
I was just about to post the same thing. I was using the Pro mode (PSSR) until the top of the space elevator because of the unstable image in that area. It actually looked kind of cool and colorful instead of the white glowing lines, but it was just a bit too hectic having all that wackiness going on, so I switched it to Pro Max (no PSSR) for the end of the game. With VRR, Pro Max feels quite smooth more than 90% of the time since it's usually above 48 fps.
I was literally just considering buying now it is in the Black Friday sale, looked for your Pro review and it wasn’t out. Come back a couple of hours later and bam!

Nobody is talking about the shadow in Eve's body, the line between the sun lighted and shaded surface of Eve's leg, there seems to be low poly quality, it bothers me every time I look at that. Talking about on the Normal PS5 , not PS5 PRO
I noticed it too back on the base PS5, and it is still there. I was shocked to see it in Xion, but you notice it in the open world sections of Wasteland, and The Great Desert. It looks like a ghosting image. I have Pro and had the base (PS5), and it's still there on the Pro.
@@icqpimp it seems worse in the latest updade. I did reinstalled from Version 1, and is there, but I think they lowered Eve's 3D model even more in the latest patch.
Been playing a lot of Stellar Blade lately and yes, it looks incredible in Pro mode and as always a blast to play and umm….admire. It’s definitely my Game of the Year, followed by Astro Bot and Silent Hill 2 remake.
@@ajchann123the base PS5 is great in its own right and consistently punches above its weight. while youre there flexing go play Star Wars Jedi Survivor and Alan Wake 2. the base PS5 versions put the Pro version to shame.
I just cant stand the look of FSR (ive been spoiled by DLSS) so i really just waited on a PS5 pro version not even being certain if it would get one despite pre ordering, finally jumping in now!
This is one of the best games to come out in the last 5 years, in my opinion. However, im still not gonna go out of my way to get a ps5 pro just to play it in a better quality. Guess im just gonna have to wait for the PC release.
yeah i want to get this now as its on a great sale for the disc version, that means i wont be able to play it on the Pro if i get one later (i wont get disc drive) but i think it should be fine on base ps5
Astro bot deserves to win game of the year, it already won in terms of audio design. I want stellar blade to win the soundtrack award but I know rebirth is going to sweep it.
With this game and many others, I can't enjoy 4k + 120hz modes, because the color becomes washed out. For stellar blade, I go 4k Pro mode with HF mode off to keep the color and for BLOPS6, I go 1440p 120fps to keep the full color. I use LG ultragear 32gr93u. Is there a monitor or tv available that can somehow remove this limitation and allow full RGB as well as 4k and 120hz? I wonder why John here in the video makes no mention of this limitation and the video he shows here for HF mode doesn't have washed out colors..
This is how you do a Pro update. Meanwhile Bloober just “fixed” the performance mode on SH2 by literally removing vegetation shadows. It’s mind boggling that the best way to play Silent Hill 2 on console is STILL the base PS5 on quality mode.
@@SolarScion PS2 hands down, has better audio, fmv quality, better fog etc.. The Xbox and PC version were not ported by team silent so there were a lot of misclenaious errors like sound distortion and occasional missing visual effects.
I'm more interested in whether you can remove enemy health bars yet? Health bars directly above enemies heads are really annoying! Put them in the corner. A method that worked perfectly well for over 20 years. Or better still give me an option to remove them all together!!!🙏
Devs should really "consider" just leave those OG graphics options there, sort of "fallback" options. Otherwise you'd see examples like Alan Wake 2, Silent Hill 2 Remake, and Star Wars Jedi Survivor, where there are "SOME" issues with PSSR implementations. And you're basically trapped with no other choices at all! Heck, even DLSS, a solution that has so many years of iterations (DLSS 3.8 around the corner), it isn't "perfect" per say, let alone a new "baby" like PSSR...
@@mrX666-s9p No maybe sony shouldn't force PSSR on everyone when FSR was working fine. When a game on PC is sponsored by Nvidia, they help to make sure DLSS is implemented properly. Sony doesn't have QC, but they do have the balls to advertise it. Kinda like AMD.
I think if you have that foresight, you can just upgrade the PS5 modes, either as all of the upgrade, or as an alternative to a mode that's more of a "sidegrade". Thing is, upgrades like silent hill 2 or Jedi survivor only happen as a result of a long line of bad decisions. Yes, that can be avoided by the decision you're proposing, but that can also be avoided by " when in doubt just increase the ps5's resolution" but the problem of bad decisions is that every solution to it is a good decision in and of itself, and that's just not a solution to bad decisions
does it look like a character from a bygone era? does eve looks like very distracting not in a good way? does it looks like from 002 when it comes to character design, old and not flattering compare to forspoken?

the real question is: WHY in ALL comparison must zooming a lot for see the differences? when i play, i not pause the game for go near tv at 4 cm distance from lcd for see the differences...
UA-cam heavily compresses videos to the point that details can be hard to see unless they zoom in, even when viewed on a large 4k screen. Also their viewer analytics show that a large amount of people watch these videos on a small phone screen, making it nearly impossible for them to see the difference without zoom. The differences can be much more noticeable when actually playing the game.
I tested this the other night. It looks beautiful, but I did feel like I would get an occasional small stutter when running around the open desert in Pro mode.

Callisto protocol is another one that also has ps5 pro patch done well. it's actually quite stellar.
FSR 2.1 implementation in Callisto was already outstanding IMO. And otherwise, the game used TSR on UE4 already.

Just started playing this game for the first time on my new PS5 Pro, and I'm in Pro mode at 80fps. The graphics are incredible!
So is it recommended to go with Pro Mode with High Framerate Mode enabled? Does HFM have any disadvantages (like lower the resolution?)

Because FSR is incredibly blurry.
FSR is still really poor even going from 1440p-4K, the 'disocclusion fizzle' is still there, just finer.

The biggest issues with this game are its predictable and stereotypical story and characters and its UE look. Neither of those are fixed here.

I reckon the PC port will break gamers, I meant they will fall in love with the gameplay and soundtrack. Astro bot is my game of the year, but Stellar Blade is second this is based only what I have played.
@ Astro Bot is absolutely a fine pick for GOTY. If Sony don’t support that studio to make more games like that they’re more stupid than I thought. They out platformed Mario with that gem of a game.
I noticed in some areas, like outdoor wastelands, resolution drops in Pro HFR, where balanced looks sharper so they might be a bit more aggressive with dynamic resolution for that 80fps. Tried turning HFR off and the resolution increased in these cases.

The visuals on a 4k display are insane. This games combat is perfectly built upon and introduced at the right times. If you really learn its systems its so fucking satisfying and jaw dropping to watch. The visuals with the pro are incredible. Amazing resolution and rock solid frame rate. The pro modes are the only way this game should be played. I had high hopes when it wae revealed and I remember alot of apathy. Feels good to see it succeed. This studio did amazing work

With additional tweaks to the graphics settings, I should be seeing framerates possibly even higher than 80, meaning - even less input latency (I struggle a lot with parry/dodge timings enough on a PS5 as it is)!
100.00 = 10 frames a piece = 80 frames = 800.00 console (disc drive included) - The soundtrack for this goes so damn hard.
no words about the artefacts on character in cutscenes if using pssr? look at minute 12.32 at the bottom of the screen. there are a line with black dots. and also artefacts in water if i playing the game. no one speak about it 🤨
6:32 shows what seems SS reflexions beaking in a line at the center of the camera. This happens in pro mode but none of the other modes, even ProMax. I have seen it in other large bodies of water. In the first city after reaching the brigdes the same happens and is even more evident
Glad I took a break from the game. Now time to finish it on pro.
Don't have a Pro but I got back into the game after initially only playing it for a few hours. The Nier cross over is so good and now the combat catched me again.

Just got the Pro. I had a big bonus from work out of the blue, so why not.
Even EA FC 25 looks way better. This console has been underplayed, I’m seeing every single game look and play far better, so far.
I saw some pssr flaws with lightning, in space elevator area where you met Arisa , you see "flash" everywhere. it might be one of the few area it doesn't work at all but clearly not as good as this video conclude
I was just about to post the same thing. I was using the Pro mode (PSSR) until the top of the space elevator because of the unstable image in that area. It actually looked kind of cool and colorful instead of the white glowing lines, but it was just a bit too hectic having all that wackiness going on, so I switched it to Pro Max (no PSSR) for the end of the game. With VRR, Pro Max feels quite smooth more than 90% of the time since it's usually above 48 fps.
I was literally just considering buying now it is in the Black Friday sale, looked for your Pro review and it wasn’t out. Come back a couple of hours later and bam!

Nobody is talking about the shadow in Eve's body, the line between the sun lighted and shaded surface of Eve's leg, there seems to be low poly quality, it bothers me every time I look at that. Talking about on the Normal PS5 , not PS5 PRO
I noticed it too back on the base PS5, and it is still there. I was shocked to see it in Xion, but you notice it in the open world sections of Wasteland, and The Great Desert. It looks like a ghosting image. I have Pro and had the base (PS5), and it's still there on the Pro.
@@icqpimp it seems worse in the latest updade. I did reinstalled from Version 1, and is there, but I think they lowered Eve's 3D model even more in the latest patch.
There's bad shadows on the Pro as well. Looking at her shadows in the inventory, it flickers...

Been playing a lot of Stellar Blade lately and yes, it looks incredible in Pro mode and as always a blast to play and umm….admire. It’s definitely my Game of the Year, followed by Astro Bot and Silent Hill 2 remake.
This is an amazing game. It's a MUST BUY and for all of it. not just T&A believe me

correct, i don't have a 4k display so it doesn't do much for me. kinda the same if you buy anything above a 4060ti with a 1080p monitor.
@@ajchann123the base PS5 is great in its own right and consistently punches above its weight. while youre there flexing go play Star Wars Jedi Survivor and Alan Wake 2. the base PS5 versions put the Pro version to shame.

This is one of the best games to come out in the last 5 years, in my opinion. However, im still not gonna go out of my way to get a ps5 pro just to play it in a better quality. Guess im just gonna have to wait for the PC release.

With this game and many others, I can't enjoy 4k + 120hz modes, because the color becomes washed out. For stellar blade, I go 4k Pro mode with HF mode off to keep the color and for BLOPS6, I go 1440p 120fps to keep the full color. I use LG ultragear 32gr93u. Is there a monitor or tv available that can somehow remove this limitation and allow full RGB as well as 4k and 120hz? I wonder why John here in the video makes no mention of this limitation and the video he shows here for HF mode doesn't have washed out colors..
This is how you do a Pro update. Meanwhile Bloober just “fixed” the performance mode on SH2 by literally removing vegetation shadows.
It’s mind boggling that the best way to play Silent Hill 2 on console is STILL the base PS5 on quality mode.
I would argue that the best way to play Silent Hill 2 on console is probably the OG XBOX version. Otherwise it's with emulation on PCSX2.
@@SolarScion PS2 hands down, has better audio, fmv quality, better fog etc.. The Xbox and PC version were not ported by team silent so there were a lot of misclenaious errors like sound distortion and occasional missing visual effects.
I'm more interested in whether you can remove enemy health bars yet? Health bars directly above enemies heads are really annoying! Put them in the corner. A method that worked perfectly well for over 20 years. Or better still give me an option to remove them all together!!!🙏

As a PC main, i'm looking forward to the PC release... Here's hoping it runs well and launches into a playable state.
Devs should really "consider" just leave those OG graphics options there, sort of "fallback" options. Otherwise you'd see examples like Alan Wake 2, Silent Hill 2 Remake, and Star Wars Jedi Survivor, where there are "SOME" issues with PSSR implementations. And you're basically trapped with no other choices at all! Heck, even DLSS, a solution that has so many years of iterations (DLSS 3.8 around the corner), it isn't "perfect" per say, let alone a new "baby" like PSSR...
No devs should do a better job stop being lazy and incompetent there is no excuse when you have games like this doing a good job.
@@mrX666-s9p No maybe sony shouldn't force PSSR on everyone when FSR was working fine. When a game on PC is sponsored by Nvidia, they help to make sure DLSS is implemented properly. Sony doesn't have QC, but they do have the balls to advertise it. Kinda like AMD.

I think if you have that foresight, you can just upgrade the PS5 modes, either as all of the upgrade, or as an alternative to a mode that's more of a "sidegrade". Thing is, upgrades like silent hill 2 or Jedi survivor only happen as a result of a long line of bad decisions. Yes, that can be avoided by the decision you're proposing, but that can also be avoided by " when in doubt just increase the ps5's resolution" but the problem of bad decisions is that every solution to it is a good decision in and of itself, and that's just not a solution to bad decisions
DLSS is definitely perfect.
I was on the fence about getting one. Glad I got a PS5 Pro. IF you have 4K 120 HDTV Only reason to get it.

the real question is: WHY in ALL comparison must zooming a lot for see the differences? when i play, i not pause the game for go near tv at 4 cm distance from lcd for see the differences...
UA-cam heavily compresses videos to the point that details can be hard to see unless they zoom in, even when viewed on a large 4k screen. Also their viewer analytics show that a large amount of people watch these videos on a small phone screen, making it nearly impossible for them to see the difference without zoom. The differences can be much more noticeable when actually playing the game.

I tested this the other night. It looks beautiful, but I did feel like I would get an occasional small stutter when running around the open desert in Pro mode.

it cleaned up a lot of the issues. Only blurry/fuzzy is photo mode selfy which just dropped recently and will probably be patched out
