James, I played through the DLC, and when you’re at the part with the hanging cart, if you go to the left you enter a room with an eye. If you flick through the images, in the last one you can see Six running through the sea of shoes, revealing where the two stories run side by side. I beleive you missed this key detail so I thought I’d mention it.
In The Lady's description, it says "The Lady casts the hypnotic spell that keeps the engine running" So that could be The Lady turning kids into nomes so they work to keep the engine running.

Honestly, when the realization of the gnomes being children scene showed up, I couldn't help but tear up. I don't know why honestly, but the scene and the music on that got me really badly. My mind just went through a scene where the gnomes were still children, and the moment they were about to be gnomes, they were probably scared, freaked out, and even crying (like that girl in the shadow). That girl crying just got me even worse. I know it can be ridiculous, but in my opinion, that scene is by far the most emotional in the game until now, and I'm so excited to see what goes next on this

Maybe the granny and the janitor were boyfriend and girlfriend and both made the toys or dolls for the nomes or children but the relationship was a secret and when the lady found out she banished the granny and made the janitor lose his sight
I think the granny was the janitor's granny and the granny watched so much of the broadcaster on the TV she became a maniac and the janitor hated that so he made himself blind so he himself wouldn't turn into a maniac and perhaps he takes care of the children in the prison cause there's no access to TV and the children that do go to the kitchen are broken beyond repair so he puts them out of their misery
And maybe if your theory is right Shelly white then the reason that the lady would banish her is because she was prettier than her and the lady knew that the water would pretty much disintegration her over time

If the devs went to the extent of making a *Girl* shadow with hair and.... *wait* ... what if the girl from the depths was turned into a nome? the shadow from the one you pointed out seemed oddly similar to the silhouette of the runaway girl from the depths!! oooh... exciting! :D
That's true, but she does have the ability to see through walls, as she looked right at the runaway kid when he was on top of the elevator. Maybe her abilities can extend further than we think. On that thought, however, we shouldn't just assume that the children being turned into knomes is all the lady's doing, as we never see her do this in the game. Maybe the leeches have something to do with it? Hmm. There is the point when the Janitor makes a gnome doll with an eye on it. Who knows? Maybe the janitor has some voodoo magic in him after all. :3 Another reason I wanted to bring up that girl shadow is that most of the other gnome shadows just looked like little boys, but the girl gnome had a placement away from the others, where her shadow could easily be thrown onto the clear spot on the wall. That seemed like they wanted it to be easier for her shadow to be put somewhere easy to see. Maybe I'm just grasping at straws, but that certainly makes it look like its important. We never got a clear answer about what happened to the little girl from the depths, and you did point out that she could be dead at the 'hands' of the leech we find there. To me, while that does seem every bit plausible, it also has some holes in it like: 'how it could have eaten a child nearly as big as it was and show no evidence?' Again I might just be grasping at straws with all this, but you can't deny that they do seem oddly similar.
another thought occurred to me. (sorry for the multiple replies) There are *souls* or *spirits* in this game, or at least whatever that black stuff you suck out of the guests was at the end of six's story seems to be some form of life force. Now my thought on this, is what if the spirits of the children are put into the Janitor's gnome dolls to become workers, while their lifeless bodies are put into paper bags and sent to the chefs to make food? Now, this one sounds *WAY* out there, but then again so is this game. It would in some way explain why there are so many gnomes, and why there are would be bodies in the Janitor's workspace.
Or maybe the lady seek the girl at the secret spectacting room. I saw another player found a secret room in this DLC and this boy see six was going through the shoe room in this room. Maybe the lady use it
Theory! The janitor, when playing as six, would grab you by putting his hand under doors an grabbing you, but he now seems very reluctant on doing that. It could be that he grew his arms back or this is another janitor that heard of what happened to the last one.

At 36:30 you use one of the Nomes and throw it to the ladder. Then use the lever on the upper far right of the room to lower the cart. You can move it close to the door and help you reach that small entrance on top of the boxes. I noticed it was not too clear how you did it. Just wanted to mention another way to do it. Great video!

I loved how each kid had a sort of unique shadow, I haven't had a genuine moment of just time stopping, realization kicking in and an overwhelming sorrow come over me in a video game for a long time. The moment when James and the rest of us put two and two together with the kids shadows, really emotional scene.

Bcuz if you hear carefully the part where the kid was walking around on the top of the elevator before they showed the lady, you'll hear his low footsteps. Maybe the lady was able to hear those and knew that there was someone as small as a kid on top of the elevator. I mean....yours is a good theory but it still doesn't completely make any sense cuz....well six was walking slowly and sneakily from behind the lady to walk past her but if six gets noticed anyhow then the lady immediately captures her with magic. So if she really wanted to let six pass by her just to battle her later then why would she even catch her when six gets noticed in the first place?.....But then again I'm just saying......no offence....your theory is actually pretty good too. I just watched a video that mentioned how Tarsier took some inspiration from Ghibli movies to make the game. And now I can't stop seeing it - The nomes are like the soot spirits that fuel the furnace in Spirited Away, as well as the Janitor looking like the furnace-spider-dude with his long ass arms. The "feeding the guests" scene also reminds me of the pigging out scene in Spirited Away as well.

OH MY GOD I JUST DISCOVERD THIS.In the hideaway dlc when uou go up the laddet to lower the minecart.Go left and there is a eye camera room.And if you press it you can see things from sixes campaign and on the 4th press you can see six going throught shoe monster room.
I'm thinking that some of the gnomes are just small dolls that the braver/escaping children are put into to run the engine. -Their walk/running is weird -When the light illuminates them, there's a giant wooden doll just sitting there that seems a bit out of place(Why would it be in a work area?). Plus, the page says that the The Maw can't run without The Lady, so she could be in a relationship with them similar to that of Komaji and the shoot spirits, from Spirited Away, by having them do her hard-labor work. She could use them as monitoring devices as well, if that's within her power(that could explain how she knows the Runaway Kid is on top of the elevator). Just my theory though, we won't know more until the rest of the DLC is released. If you want to reply your thoughts and theorizing to this, feel free to.

hi there! I just wanted to point out, in case no one has already, that during this DLC, there is a secret room where you can look through the cameras, just like the one in Six's campaign. When you are looking through all the cameras, you get to see Six walking through the large pile of shoes. So that is how they tied the two campaigns together :) just to let you know. Also, I love all your theory videos on this game, which is my favorite so far :) So thanks for posting them!

It is the same spelling in all countries that speak English but the official name for these creatures in the game are Nomes and not Gnomes they are different things entirely
I have a few theories now. What if the janitor draws children in with toys? That explains the drawing of the janitor with the children. It also explains the drawing of the janitor with many arms, like he’s a spider that draws children into his “web”. Also, I don’t think the chefs cook children. If they cooked children, the janitor would have no reason to send them alive and so close to the lady. Also, maybe the lady needs souls to turn children into nomes. That would explain why she created the maw. And if she uses black magic, maybe, just maybe... she isn’t Six’s mother as we now think of her as. Maybe... Six isn’t even human. Maybe she is the manifestation of the lady’s black magic. That explains the hunger, dark Six, the lady giving up against Six (she sees it as the black magic consuming her). The reason Six didn’t have powers before she ate the lady may be that she needed to consume her in order to gain control of her powers. There’s also a room in Six’s campaign, in the Janitor chapter, where you turn on a TV to attract the Janitor there. If you slow down the music, there’s a song (this wasn’t discovered by me though). There’s a line that says “he cut Veronica”. If we asume Veronica is the lady, maybe the runaway boy cut one of her eyes. That’s the reason for all the one eye imagery, as well as a reason for the lady to do that.
As another theory, maybe the “hypnotic spell that keeps the the engine running” is a hypnotic spell on the nomes, which would explain their behavior with the coal.
I heared the governess put a spell on the engine, mabye the she used the same spell to turn the children into nomes and thats why you see the shadow of the children in the light..? Thats just what i think. :P

To me, while that does seem every bit plausible, it also has some holes in it like: 'how it could have eaten a child nearly as big as it was and show no evidence?' Again I might just be grasping at straws with all this, but you can't deny that they do seem oddly similar.
another thought occurred to me. (sorry for the multiple replies) There are *souls* or *spirits* in this game, or at least whatever that black stuff you suck out of the guests was at the end of six's story seems to be some form of life force. Now my thought on this, is what if the spirits of the children are put into the Janitor's gnome dolls to become workers, while their lifeless bodies are put into paper bags and sent to the chefs to make food? Now, this one sounds *WAY* out there, but then again so is this game. It would in some way explain why there are so many gnomes, and why there are would be bodies in the Janitor's workspace.
Or maybe the lady seek the girl at the secret spectacting room. I saw another player found a secret room in this DLC and this boy see six was going through the shoe room in this room. Maybe the lady use it

Theory! The janitor, when playing as six, would grab you by putting his hand under doors an grabbing you, but he now seems very reluctant on doing that. It could be that he grew his arms back or this is another janitor that heard of what happened to the last one.

At 36:30 you use one of the Nomes and throw it to the ladder. Then use the lever on the upper far right of the room to lower the cart. You can move it close to the door and help you reach that small entrance on top of the boxes. I noticed it was not too clear how you did it. Just wanted to mention another way to do it. Great video!

I loved how each kid had a sort of unique shadow, I haven't had a genuine moment of just time stopping, realization kicking in and an overwhelming sorrow come over me in a video game for a long time. The moment when James and the rest of us put two and two together with the kids shadows, really emotional scene.

Bcuz if you hear carefully the part where the kid was walking around on the top of the elevator before they showed the lady, you'll hear his low footsteps. Maybe the lady was able to hear those and knew that there was someone as small as a kid on top of the elevator. I mean....yours is a good theory but it still doesn't completely make any sense cuz....well six was walking slowly and sneakily from behind the lady to walk past her but if six gets noticed anyhow then the lady immediately captures her with magic. So if she really wanted to let six pass by her just to battle her later then why would she even catch her when six gets noticed in the first place?.....But then again I'm just saying......no offence....your theory is actually pretty good too. I just watched a video that mentioned how Tarsier took some inspiration from Ghibli movies to make the game. And now I can't stop seeing it - The nomes are like the soot spirits that fuel the furnace in Spirited Away, as well as the Janitor looking like the furnace-spider-dude with his long ass arms. The "feeding the guests" scene also reminds me of the pigging out scene in Spirited Away as well.

OH MY GOD I JUST DISCOVERD THIS.In the hideaway dlc when uou go up the laddet to lower the minecart.Go left and there is a eye camera room.And if you press it you can see things from sixes campaign and on the 4th press you can see six going throught shoe monster room.
The Janitor's heavy breathing is the most unnerving thing.
I'm thinking that some of the gnomes are just small dolls that the braver/escaping children are put into to run the engine.
-Their walk/running is weird
-When the light illuminates them, there's a giant wooden doll just sitting there that seems a bit out of place(Why would it be in a work area?).
Plus, the page says that the The Maw can't run without The Lady, so she could be in a relationship with them similar to that of Komaji and the shoot spirits, from Spirited Away, by having them do her hard-labor work.
She could use them as monitoring devices as well, if that's within her power(that could explain how she knows the Runaway Kid is on top of the elevator).
Just my theory though, we won't know more until the rest of the DLC is released.

hi there! I just wanted to point out, in case no one has already, that during this DLC, there is a secret room where you can look through the cameras, just like the one in Six's campaign. When you are looking through all the cameras, you get to see Six walking through the large pile of shoes. So that is how they tied the two campaigns together :) just to let you know. Also, I love all your theory videos on this game, which is my favorite so far :) So thanks for posting them!

I have a few theories now.
What if the janitor draws children in with toys? That explains the drawing of the janitor with the children. It also explains the drawing of the janitor with many arms, like he’s a spider that draws children into his “web”.
Also, I don’t think the chefs cook children. If they cooked children, the janitor would have no reason to send them alive and so close to the lady.
Also, maybe the lady needs souls to turn children into nomes. That would explain why she created the maw.
And if she uses black magic, maybe, just maybe... she isn’t Six’s mother as we now think of her as. Maybe... Six isn’t even human. Maybe she is the manifestation of the lady’s black magic.
That explains the hunger, dark Six, the lady giving up against Six (she sees it as the black magic consuming her). The reason Six didn’t have powers before she ate the lady may be that she needed to consume her in order to gain control of her powers.
There’s also a room in Six’s campaign, in the Janitor chapter, where you turn on a TV to attract the Janitor there. If you slow down the music, there’s a song (this wasn’t discovered by me though). There’s a line that says “he cut Veronica”. If we asume Veronica is the lady, maybe the runaway boy cut one of her eyes. That’s the reason for all the one eye imagery, as well as a reason for the lady to do that.
As another theory, maybe the “hypnotic spell that keeps the the engine running” is a hypnotic spell on the nomes, which would explain their behavior with the coal.
I heared the governess put a spell on the engine, mabye the she used the same spell to turn the children into nomes and thats why you see the shadow of the children in the light..? Thats just what i think. :P
