What an amazing video. Thank you so much. We visited the marsh yesterday (Feb 21) to get a feel of what is to come this spring. We are first time serious birders. Can’t wait to get back and spend some quality time. We are so fortunate to live in Wisconsin. Kudos to you. You’ve done a great job in putting the video together.
Awesome thanks so much! I’ve been enjoying watching the birds in my local area in SW Wisconsin and am now interested in starting to travel a bit to view more species as well as more beautiful scenery & other wildlife.
Great video. I stopped there for the first time 2 weeks ago on my way to the UP. It was fantastic. Next time I'll make sure I set up my trip so I can devote at least a full day of birding there.
Definitely! There’s so much to see. This year there was a Red Knot and a White-faced Ibis already. The Knot left but I think the Ibis may be hanging around still.
I try to stop at Horicon whenever I travel from Madison to Green Bay. I still remember it's the first place I saw a Black-crowned Night- Heron, Black Terns and Yellow-headed Blackbirds.
I went there just over a month ago in early May for the first time. It was very nice, however a number of areas were closed off due to the time of year. It's good to know that they are open June-August.
Northern Pintails are actually fairly uncommon breeders in the state but they definitely pass through during migration. Duck diversity overall is pretty good in WI.
The marsh wren is neat. They definitely named the Ruff right. I hope some day to go there. I need to get a better pair of binoculars or spotting scope. What kind of binoculars do you recommend? Optical size for bird watching.
It really depends how much time you want to spend. There are enough trails you could definitely spend the whole day out there birding. There are a lot of nice places to drive to, walk as much as you want and then drive to the next location.

It’s an awesome place!
Outstanding! When I hit Wisconsin next summer, I think a full day at Horicon Marsh is in order. Thanks for breaking it down.
That marsh looks like a wonderful place to visit. I love that kind of habitat. The marsh wren gymnast is impressive!
Yeah! It probably has a career as a gymnast in its future. :)
What a great place! Thank you for taking us along!
Thanks for watching!
What a lovely place. Great video as always!
I am rewatching all the horicon videos before our trip! See you on Thursday! Hopefully the weather is nicer than the weather report says…
Even if it's not we'll still find them!
@@BadgerlandBirding oh yes we will!

great video guys, keep it up
Thanks, Todd!
So cool to see breeding ducks like northern pintail there. That is something we don't get here on the east coast.

Great video. I have never visited there before. Would there be a need for a lens any shorter than 500mm for photographing birds?
According to Wikipedia Cheyenne bottoms in central Kansas is the largest inland freshwater Marsh at 40,000. Any idea why they both claim to be biggest
Largest freshwater cattail marsh in the US. The cattail part is the distinguishing feature.
Nice video! How much time would you say it would take to drive around it and get out at different locations to do some 'on foot' birding?

@@BadgerlandBirding Thanks much!
Have you been to Crex Meadows by Grantsburg, Wi?
That’s one place we haven’t made it to yet, but would like to!
Excellent video (I wish I had this two years ago when I moved here)! I might pop on down there today. :) When did you guys film this?
Thanks! We filmed this late spring/early summer of 2020.
What time of year is best to see more birds? Especially immigratory birds,
Migratory birds? Definitely spring! But fall can be good too!
