I’ve said this before, I’ve been doing this stuff since the 60’s, but every time I watch you I learn something new. Great pot holder. From an old guy in the U.S., thanks so much for doing this.
Thanks so much. Long shift yesterday, just got home. Fired this video up and in 6 minutes the fire was cracking, steaks on and you transferred me out there...in the woods. For a few moments all the BS was gone. I appreciate that....always do. Take care
seriously ;liking the Zeltbahn and that pan holder what an amazing idea simple yet so effective, a big share to the group, looking forward to the Winter adventures...atb
I must complement you on your tendency to not make fires bigger than they need to be. If you need heat make a small fire and sit close. Small fires make wood collecting easier and will also keep forests in better condition.
I recommend your channel to everyone. As a life long camper and outdoor enthusiast your technique rings so true to me. Love your fires. My favorite is a three stick fire taught to me by native more than 30 years ago. Thank you.
That pan holder was clever! That's the sort of thing that attracted me so much to Bushcrafting. First, trying out the traditional ways things were made and done, then trying modifications and variations, and finally, trying to come up with other ideas of my own. Sometimes things are simple and expedient, sometimes more involved. Much of the enjoyment is in the making, so contraptions like water wheels, and propeller driven devices and other clever creations may not seem practical to some, but practicality is not always the point. Bushcrafting for most is a hobby, and so should be fun, challenging, and creative.
I just love your videos... For me its a kind of mediation. If I had a bad day or just feeling bad, I watch a video of you and calm down. I can just say thank you for these unbelivable impressions...
I'm just going to go ahead and be a grump here. I've camped for 30 years and have never seemed to need a frying pan holder. It's a clever concept and it's good that you keep your videos interesting however. Thanks.
LOL.. well i would never call it a survival pan holder! Im always in a rush when i camp so i rarely feel i have time to wait for good cooking coals for the pan. I would never cook bacon in a pan this way. But a thick piece of meat, chicken etc needs a not so hot temperature by being elevated above the fire. So instead of waiting a couple of hours for good coals (which is what it takes here in softwood country) a 10 minute pan holder is not so awkward to make IMO. But you have a point too. But If i only would go out and do the same cooking setup everytime, like the hunters fire for the pan as an example... i doubt i would have the views. Last couple of weeks i have been thinking...well now i just have to be done with the different pan/pot holders. I should start over and do beta versions of the ones i did. But then suddenly a new idea i have to try... like this very moment! One more coming up next week im afraid! And I think its going to be even more simple. Thanks, would never get the idea without your comment!😂

Nice video as usual, and a neat pan holder. Have you been able to check out how waterproof is the NVA Zeltban poncho? Thanks for sharing your great videos with us. Good care, and greetings from North Catalunya.
Hmm, 3 years later. I dont know someone said it before, but, why is the Zeltbahn as Poncho so long at the back? You wear your backpack under the Poncho, to hold it dry. And the two holes are for a rifle not for the Arms. So you can stay dry too, while using your riffle. For so long, greetings from germany :-)
Simple and sweet. Good video. I have asked you in the past, but I lost the info. I apologize. What are those small hand drills you use. You always have the cleverest tricks with those. Thanks again.
Damn intresting to see your gear and equipment. Keeping it simple and smart! Not very familiar with cold temperatures winter hiking, and planning some this year. What is the best way to stay warm, from waist down (in terms of clothing)? Been thinking of a winter thermal underlayer, thin down underpants and shellpants on top. Do you think it will work in like -10°C? Thanks for sharing this video, awesome. Tumme upp från Göteborg!
@Christopher Kavanaugh Thanks man! Will look into that, I knew synthetics and wool is the best way to go. I am basically a kayaker and harsh ocean enviroments is part of the business but in hiking conditions, where you move alot and still is exposed to the enviroments. I have to re-think...Thanks for your input!
Magnus Persson , you may want to look at something like surplus Swiss wool gaiters too, particularly if you will be breaking trail in snow. They help keep the under layers and even boots dry, as well as adding another layer of insulation, and effective protection against thorns and brambles.
What Chris and Sean said. And negative 10 degrees Celsius is not so much to be afraid of. Only when it's windy and you have to protect cheek bones etc to avoid frost bites. So dont overdress! Thats a recipe for disaster. Dress according to the three layer principle. And constantly regulate (opening up or closing layers of clothing) the heat while moving, working or resting. Check out Erik Normark on youtube and how he dress. He uses high tech gear but the principle is there and one can replace with cheaper good quality gear if you test it first before going out. Good luck man

James Ellsworth nailed it. A gimlet starts out as a fine drill and then becomes more of a reamer to cleanly finish the hole. Often used by cabinet makers when working with veneer so the delicate, thin wood doesn't split. Also useful for making pilot holes for fasteners and such, particularly in wood that is tough and fiberous that normal drill bits leave rough and ragged.

Swedwoods has videos on the Polish Lavvu showing one, two or (if I remember) even three) to make shelters. Those videos are great to watch. After that, decide on the interior volume you would like, the pitching setup that works best for you and how much weight you want to transport to YOUR campsite.
GhosTeN , I know Swedwoods mentioned the zehltban was lighter and packed down smaller in the comments of a previous video. Function wise, I think they are very comparable.
