So many greats but the ones that did it first or were passed a torch around that millennial era when I was 11/12 y/o skinning my knees, palms, and bows I wanted to emulate. I wish USD would make his pro skate again - those 2015'ish dread lock Carbon Free's were amazing but I could never find them in my size. And then in 2010, Chris Haffey after a decade of trying finally won his first Bitter Cold Showdown. I started on rec skates. A kid who has long since quit joined me on this section of asphalt and then we exchanged numbers and I go over to his and there are 3 of them and we were all watching WDYBI, VG-19.. Got a pair of TRS and over a quite long and painful period I learnt the ropes. Idk why but I can remember that kids setup. He had white Shima 3s with red cuffs and he would always skate with the buckles not properly done up with all the innards hanging out (and a 3xl tee). I used to think if he did the buckle up he would probably have been better. Great memories.

Im Proud to say im like number 913 I love these guys I was at the imyta San Diego this will or may not make sense now before Dustin Latimer was my favorite skater Brian Shima was . The first issue of daily bread I bought was issue num 29 which featured Brian and he had those grey classic usd thrones which I loved and I was too star struck to say hi to Brian but I had to meet Dustin at the event. I mean was a insane dream come true every star u can imagine nwss there at the imyta so ya... I barely very timidly said hi to rachard who I ended up becoming friends with talk about crazy dream come true. 818 sfv valley urs x Tron x L StA r ⭐
wow i thought that i was the only one who considers that DL`s 540 most beautiful rollerblading trick ever. I mean lot of people consider it amazing but i somehow never heard such appreciation
I was there at the IMYTA Paris in 2001, on the forecourt of the Bercy arena, I was 12 years old. Brian Shima destroyed the place. Litteraly invented ways to use those ledges no one had thought of before. Pure genius, living legend. Eternal love.
@12:10 Damn, mystery solved. I remember having conversations with friends back in the day about that trick and how it looked 4 years older than everything else in that section. He was clearly wearing old oxygens but we argued why a banger trick like that would sit on a shelf for so long. Thanks again for these podcasts Billy and Austin.
Skated along side Shima once. I was prob. 16 and in awe. He’s the GOAT in my eyes for so many reasons. Currently rebuilding my Shima 2’s and stubbled across this. Yes!
I wish I could give this a million thumbs up! My all time favorite skater! I even have the picture of him from that 4x4 add, where he's giving the finger, tattooed on my shoulder.
Just discovered your podcast. So much memories ! I'm a French skater and I remember travelling to Paris to watch you guys at Bercy and later for IMYTA.
Only ❤ I can say. We learn a lot of music from your videos, tricks, style and a solid lifestyle and values. Thank you for everything. Respect from Romania 🤛
This was such a privilege to watch, and a podcast I'll never forget! The Mindgame stories are pure gold and so inspiring to hear the legend Shima talk about his career and progression of the sport. Thanks so much for sharing!
Shima is a very solid dude. Threw down absolute hammers in his day. I love his positivity and general mindset. He seems like he's in a very solid mental state, and I loved this interview. Great flow unlike the Feinberg interview. I really hope Feinberg's doing OK. P.S. I live 30 minutes from Kona and used to skateboard and blade there from 1994-2010. You guys are rad. Keep up the great work!!
That man literally made such an impact on my life in so many ways - skating, music, style, attitude etc etc. So glad you guys got him on - a true legend.
Blader turned Luthier here. I Skate cult 9's and make extended range modern metal custom guitars. Great transitions. I have a few projects and we are skaters. I think it goes hand in hand for that go for it mentality. I skated the Shima III back in the day. Huge fan and grew up at Eisenberg's in Plano TX. Mad respect.

Awesome chat! I do remember being able to meet DL in NZ, I’m unsure if I even got to see the guy skate, but the hype was real. It was awesome to meet the legend, unreal shit.
This is E P I C. Shima you're a legend man. Thank you for all you've done for the sport. Skating has allowed me to meet most of my best friends and have some of the best memories as a kid.
Brians storys were epic🤯, Shima= dream chaser. Keep up the good work guys.. Lots of humbling words from the goat🐏. Quote of the year, "roller blading will never die.".👊🏾 Bay fam🌉
It’s funny that the Shima interview went down at Kona; I’ve been skating there since 99’ and the biggest, Highest air I’ve ever witnessed at Kona was infact Shima airing out of the bowl
Marc Senn I was only at the powwow on Saturday and was pretty preoccupied with competing in the 35+ and after that I was really wore out and chilling. We will link up next year!
I grew up skateboarding, but one day I borrowed my friend’s rollerblading mag in 2001 or 2002 and Brian was by far my favorite by the time I was done looking at it. His style reminded me of my favorite skateboarder, Jamie Thomas
yooooo! this man is such a legend! got to meet him when i lived down in SD. after years of watching him do things that didn't seem possible it was surreal to shake hands with my favorite skater. both him & jon elliot are super chill, good people for sure. just rebuilt my shima psirus skates during the pandemic & they still roll strong.
I still have my daily bread mag with Shima on the cover and he signed it when we skated together when they were on razor tour in Michigan. Wish we could go back.
I wish more people listend to this. He is talking the facts. When the money left a lot of people walked off. I had the wrong idea about shima. I met some dudes from the san diego area. But i never heard anyone of them talk like this. This last section. And the last part about work is true. People at my job are slouches and rude. They don't know what it feels like to lace up the skates.
I loved my shima 2’s with the beefy liners an I ordered the shima 3’s as soon as they were released.still got a pair of nihm v1 with the juicy side plates in my cupboard as they were my last pair of skates I had before I stopped skating.shima was a god when i was younger. 🙌🏻 Mad love from the uk.
Respect to you Mr. Shima!🙌 You are a legend! Coup de Tat was the first video I owned when I first started blading, your sections from that video is still one of my top fav of all time. You have been huge inspiration to me just wanted to tell u that. I'm over 30 now and still blading. God bless you!
What a great interview. I'll never forget borrowing my buddy's pair of Shima 2s (with the OG Shima 1 liners) for a weekend and my life was changed forever. Legend.
Shima has been my biggest inspiration and him and Julio are the reason I still skate and seeing him so humble and speaking on paying it forward is definitely the best.... 4 times the leap of faith is beyond amazing !!!
Hell yeah!! It is always rad to have homies getting you juiced on a trick and even more rad having them there if you get broke off. Getting hurt while solo skating is the biggest buzz kill. Love what you guys said around @43:00
I bought the Shima 4's second hand from a buddy. I think they were about my 5th pair of skates and the first pair of skates to give me real confidence to skate street and improved my skating drastically. Up until that point I had only ever skated Roces.
Damn im beyong late on this one! Epic interview!!! Damn...... that was...... no words!!! Especially touching on OG blading lore and BRAIN FEAR FOOOKING GONE insight from Shima himself. Great shit dudes....Thanks for being yall! Shout out Martinho!!! Sending love and support from SAC! cheers fellas!
We appreciate everything Brian has done for our sport and culture. I really wish I was where I am now to support his brand and company. It’s really important to support our 100% owner Blader companies. Thanks for everything Brian
Best interview EVER!!! Shima is a fuking legend. I check UA-cam yearly to see if their is any new content about him. Keep up the good work, would love to see Josh Petty, Dre Powell, or Erik “Ski” Perkette
Went back and watched WDYBI section and sure as shit. Can't believe no one ever noticed that haha. Also can't believe he did a trick that Gnarly on Oxygens
Definitely needs a round 2, would love a deep dive into how he got on medium, his rise up the the asa tours and his USD Period. Great interview but needs a second round for sure!!!
Now we need a DL interview.
Steven Siwinski indeed!!!!

There were a couple old videos with Sublime the band songs in sections..

After watching the whole thing I'd pay Shane to come on. lol He's gotta have some great Mindgame stories.

Montre Livingston winning the Bitter Cold Showdown in 09' carrying Brian Shima's is awesome. IMO there couldn't be a better ambassador of the sport. I wish USD would make his pro skate again - those 2015'ish dread lock Carbon Free's were amazing but I could never find them in my size. And then in 2010, Chris Haffey after a decade of trying finally won his first Bitter Cold Showdown. I love watching that contest because of Matt Mickey and Arlo Eisenberg calling the event - but mainly the level of skating that I dont think has been topped since. ua-cam.com/video/R9Qk-sTUHYE/v-deo.html Shima's 360 Disaster Soul To Fakie Out (the hard way for STEAZE!!) Such history to the sport. The parks they used back then
@@Habeev07 make his pro skate in the wrong size? over it
You absolutely need to get shima on again, far too many stories not talked about
Im Proud to say im like number 913 I love these guys I was at the imyta San Diego this will or may not make sense now before Dustin Latimer was my favorite skater Brian Shima was .
This has to be the best interview yet. Shima means so to the culture and I'm happy he sat down with you gents
wow i thought that i was the only one who considers that DL`s 540 most beautiful rollerblading trick ever. I mean lot of people consider it amazing but i somehow never heard such appreciation
Nope. Right there with you. It is the sickest trick I've ever seen, in person or video. That 540 is just...art.
I was there at the IMYTA Paris in 2001, on the forecourt of the Bercy arena, I was 12 years old. Brian Shima destroyed the place. Litteraly invented ways to use those ledges no one had thought of before. Pure genius, living legend. Eternal love.
I met a snowboarder in Alaska that was 88 years olds.
This is why I'm a patron. I hope you guys keep doing this whenever and wherever you can. :)
Skated along side Shima once. I was prob. 16 and in awe. He’s the GOAT in my eyes for so many reasons. Currently rebuilding my Shima 2’s and stubbled across this. Yes!
All I know is how to chase dreams .... what a quote for the man himself
Brian Shima is the reason why I love Razors, none the less
I wish I could give this a million thumbs up! My all time favorite skater! I even have the picture of him from that 4x4 add, where he's giving the finger, tattooed on my shoulder.
Just discovered your podcast. So much memories ! I'm a French skater and I remember travelling to Paris to watch you guys at Bercy and later for IMYTA.
The reason I started skating right here.... shima will always be the goat IMO....
Hearing Shima talks about making BFG and CDT in the same year with DL (19:20) gave me chills. That shit was mind blowing when it came out.
Brain Fear Gone and Coup De Tat are THE rollerblading videos. Everything else is 2nd.
The G.O.A.T. 🐐
It was too good to live an easy life, this rollerblading. Damn we almost won against the entire world. What a time.
Only ❤ I can say. We learn a lot of music from your videos, tricks, style and a solid lifestyle and values. Thank you for everything. Respect from Romania 🤛
Brain fear gone was the first skate video I ever saw and truely changed my view on rollerblading forever
Literally finished putting soil in my pots on the last word here. Stoked to hear from Shima🤘🤘🤘
Pretty much same bro... 👊🏼💚
Mindgame hands down was one of my fav companies. The team, art, and just the vibe was like yeah this is pure
This was such a privilege to watch, and a podcast I'll never forget! The Mindgame stories are pure gold and so inspiring to hear the legend Shima talk about his career and progression of the sport. Thanks so much for sharing!
The most humble guy youll ever meet. I was lucky to get to skate with him hundreds of times and he was always this way at least as I knew him he was.
Awesome! Random question..... why don't you go invite Broskow?
we'll get him
Probably felt this one more than any other podcast before, so much wisdom. Heavy. Thank you.
FACTS 1000
Shima is such a real person. I feel like I can relate to him.
Stoked on every sec of this podcast but 1:16:39 - 1:18:34 is what its all about. BRINK - SOUL SKATER!! Love it! I'm 31 and growing up watching Latimer/Yost in the Xgames just hucking. Brian Shima, Haffey, Aragon, Morales, Broskow, Stockwell, Farmer... So many greats but the ones that did it first or were passed a torch around that millennial era when I was 11/12 y/o skinning my knees, palms, and bows I wanted to emulate. JUICED 🔥🔥🔥
super humble guy this guy is a living Legend
Awesome chat! I do remember being able to meet DL in NZ, I’m unsure if I even got to see the guy skate, but the hype was real. It was awesome to meet the legend, unreal shit.
This is E P I C. Shima you're a legend man. Thank you for all you've done for the sport. Skating has allowed me to meet most of my best friends and have some of the best memories as a kid.
Brians storys were epic🤯,
Shima= dream chaser.
Keep up the good work guys..
Lots of humbling words from the goat🐏. Quote of the year, "roller blading will never die.".👊🏾
Bay fam🌉
The speed at which he flew at tricks is astonishing.
It’s funny that the Shima interview went down at Kona; I’ve been skating there since 99’ and the biggest, Highest air I’ve ever witnessed at Kona was infact Shima airing out of the bowl
Your your UA-cam channel is 🔥
Marc Senn wow thank you so much! I appreciate it. Sometimes I feel like no one cares or watches :)
So many people I don’t even think I saw McFly
Marc Senn I was only at the powwow on Saturday and was pretty preoccupied with competing in the 35+ and after that I was really wore out and chilling. We will link up next year!
Big country ASAP
@Fish,
Thanks for sharing the spirit of travel, love & dreams.
I knew Shima was next. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
I grew up skateboarding, but one day I borrowed my friend’s rollerblading mag in 2001 or 2002 and Brian was by far my favorite by the time I was done looking at it. His style reminded me of my favorite skateboarder, Jamie Thomas
That was moving! Skating forever effected me because of what he and other greats did. Get that book written! Much love
true legend gonna enjoy this and some coffee thanks for the phenomenal content guys
yooooo! this man is such a legend! got to meet him when i lived down in SD. after years of watching him do things that didn't seem possible it was surreal to shake hands with my favorite skater. both him & jon elliot are super chill, good people for sure. just rebuilt my shima psirus skates during the pandemic & they still roll strong.
Living Legend. I'm on the edge of my seat for this shit! Salute to all involved
I’m 23 minutes in and my heads falling off. Shima, you utter beast
Can't wait to sit down and watch this today. Thanks for running this amazing show!
Damn guys you are capturing the history of blading.
What a legend.
Shima is such a nice & humble guy, good to see that side of him. Nothing but love and respect. Hard to come by these days
Showing the clips of these massive tricks makes it way more enjoyable
This is still their best episode to date
What a great interview. I'll never forget borrowing my buddy's pair of Shima 2s (with the OG Shima 1 liners) for a weekend and my life was changed forever.
Legend.
Shima has been my biggest inspiration and him and Julio are the reason I still skate and seeing him so humble and speaking on paying it forward is definitely the best.... 4 times the leap of faith is beyond amazing !!!
Brings back so many memories. Watching the legends like Shima before I'd go skate.
Man I loved this episode! Skating back in the early 2000s And now stepping back again now. I’m catching up with as much as I can! Thank you guys 🙌🏻
This interview is like a list of the guests I would love to see interviewed (Latimer, Coburn, Elliot, Lennon, Spizer, Feinberg)
Hell yeah!! It is always rad to have homies getting you juiced on a trick and even more rad having them there if you get broke off. Getting hurt while solo skating is the biggest buzz kill. Love what you guys said around @43:00
This is the best episode period!
Yes shima! Write a fucking book ! It's so nice to finally meet the people so close! U guys make my childhood dreams come true !
Shima Psirus' were the best skates I ever put on my feet, thanks USD and Brian for keeping me sane
We appreciate everything Brian has done for our sport and culture. I really wish I was where I am now to support his brand and company. It’s really important to support our 100% owner Blader companies. Thanks for everything Brian
BLADING WILL NEVER DIE like Brian said
This guy! Omg he is amazing ❤ The best one so far !
I haven’t started watching this yet cuz I have to work but damn I’m excited to watch this on my lunch break.
12 mins into the commentary here ua-cam.com/video/pd9Y51sAYiA/v-deo.html
I bought my first aggressive skates because of Shima back in the day. Good times.
That was epic 🙏
Definitely needs a round 2, would love a deep dive into how he got on medium, his rise up the the asa tours and his USD Period. Great interview but needs a second round for sure!!!
this has to be one of the best things to come out of rollerblading since .... UFS became a standard. I wish you great success.
WE NEED BRIAN SHIMA ON THE JOE ROGAN PODCAST.... Blading needs to be shown to the masses again
mad humble dude
