    Dave, you're absolutely the best reviewer on UA-cam. No snark, no memes, just absolute passion for guitar and everything around it. It's infectious! You can tell everything means a lot to you and that's so refreshing. Not to mention you're an incredible player. Super glad you got a Katana finally, you're making me want one!

    Hi Dave. First time commenter. Have watched your videos regularly for about a year or so. I wanted to tell you 2 things.
    First; because of this video, I decided to get the Katana 50 for my birthday. I’d gotten rid of all my gigging valve amps (Mesa Dual Rectifier, Orange Tiny Terror, Bugera V22 and Hot Rod Deluxe) because I thought I’d never be in a band again now that I’m a husband and father. Then out of the blue this year I was asked to be in a band. I need a gigging amp and don’t have very much disposable income. This video, along with your current live setup video and your Voodoo Child video you recorded with the Katana, sold me on this amp. Thank you for that.
    Secondly; thank you so much for being a champion of us working men and women. There are so many people out there who insist that you must have expensive guitar gear to be legitimate. I love how you have given that line of thinking the middle finger. The majority of us can’t afford Suhr guitars, Strymon pedals and hand wired valve amps. Thank you for showing the world that you truly can sound killer with non-valve amps and electric guitars that don’t cost a bloody fortune.
    You’re a good man, sir. Thank you for what you do.
    Eric

That's how good this thing is ! Got the Katana today and it’s a Mk 2. It is absolutely stunning. It doesn’t murder the guitars own character like some modelling amps. Every guitar I have sounds like the guitar I am using. I personally didn’t like the Kemper I had. It was choice paralysis and the guitar I found lost its character. But maybe I was doing something wrong. I like simple. The katana does do simple. Is it as warm as a tube no. But it’s weird it doesnt need it it’s bloody great. The best modelling amp ive ever played.

    I've had my Katana 50 a couple of months now. It really is as good as Dave says. We play hard rock covers, and our drummer is just "stupid-loud"; in fact bloody irritatingly, ear collapsingly loud! The little Boss was more than loud enough to cope and still sounded sweet. How they (Boss)have managed to make such a capable amp for just Euro 200 is mind-boggling! Thanks for the video Dave, I like the look of joy on your face when demonstrating various sounds! Ha ha ha. The Katana 50 combo is excellent. I only use it for home practice, but it's loud enough to play smaller venues, if it's mic'd. The only negatives are (1) no tuner, and (2) no outputs for direct recording (you have to use the headphone output for direct, but it doesn't sound the same, you need to re EQ everything, among other things).

    After watching a good few videos I went to local PMT shop to try. I needed a lighter amp (My JCM 900 is heavy!) They only had the 100w version so I tried it on 50 setting and sounded good. I ordered a 50 watt which came in a few days, but boy was I disappointed! The clean is superb but as soon as you start using any gain channels the earthing noise was unbearable. Thinking this might be a faulty one I sent it back, but the replacement was the same. I was using a standard Strat. My Marshall makes hardly any noise. I've since bought a Marshall digital amp. The clean and crunch are very useable but again the overdrive channels 1 and 2 are very noisy.

    I needed a decent sounding giggable amp a while back and the guys in my local guitar shop pointed me towards the Katana. They let me loose with a custom shop Les Paul and a Katana and I was blown away. Said I'd think about it, wondering if I was being swayed by the £6,000 Les Paul. I went back and tried it with a Les Paul Traditional (same as what I use most of the time) and it was still great. Just to be sure, I asked to try it with a Player Strat and an Epi LP to ensure I wasn't being swayed by spectacular guitars. Nope. The Katana just kicked arse. Bought it there and then and have been very happy with it ever since. Just about the best solid state amp I've ever used. Just amazing. When you consider the price, it's just astonishing.

      Wait... does that mean the 50w has no headphone jack?

    • @TheChicagoTodd
      @TheChicagoTodd 6 років тому +1

      Hi Dennis X....I don't have the 50w so I can't say for sure, but I would bet it does. But as far as I know, the only Katana head with a built-in speaker is the 100w. Works sooooooo good! However, I just bought a Helix LT and Headroom FRFR-112 and will probably just be using that now....

      Ah, you speaking about the head. I missed that point. I thought you were talking about the combo like the one he's showing in the video.

    The UA-cam algorithm led me to your channel yesterday as I've been binge-watching Boss katana videos recently. You are quite a find. Not only are you a monster guitar player and a delightful imp in a sea of unremarkable, garden-variety UA-camrs, it blows my mind that you were a Ukraine supporter FOUR YEARS before it was hip to do so!

    You're plugged into the Marshall and you're pulling our legs. I'm onto you, dude. LOL
    Seriously though, I don't know how many times I've been told "hey, this new digital amp rocks!", then I try it, and then I go back to my old tube amp cuz life's too short to play second best. Happens every time. So I'm skeptical.
    I can't argue with $200 though. That makes it a no-brainer, for what it is. Bottom line though, you are a tons better player than that tone. I'll have to go in and try one out to see for myself. Maybe it's for warm-up before charging into my Metropoulos Super-Plex (that I don't yet have - sad).

    I already own a Katana, but if I didn't, I would buy one after watching this video. I have to say, just to see the way you smiled while playing, which showed that you were having fun playing and to be honest I didn't see anyone do the same while reviewing the Katana. Great playing and amazing tones.

    Nice review! If I was on the fence with respect to getting this amp, I've now jumped off and broke a leg. I spend most of my time in the clean and light distortion zone, and wasn't sure this would work till hearing this. Thank you!. This is the first video of yours I've seen. I'll be back. It's awesome watching a musician just enjoying the moment.

    F*ck!!!! That Jimi blues lead mode was PERFECT TONE! I love how you freaked out and had to stop yourself from playing so you wouldn't just go off for an hour on that tone alone! I so AGREE- what beautiful tone! WOW! For $250? Sheesh- I guess I have to buy one now. Damn it! I thought I was going to like the SRV tone best- but that Jimi tone is the tone I"ve been chasing for 20 years! Holy Crap- in a lightweight giggle box like that that is loud enough to gig with but sounds great (and feels great according to you) at low volume too? I'm in... Normally that great Jimi tone is only available to me in an empty house with a Marshall dimmed- so almost never! I don't even get to turn the Marshalls up at gigs any more- hell they sit in my studio now never gigged because all gigs are mic'd and no one wants a "too loud" band!

    I know this is old news but getting too old to hump my awesome Hiwatt set up about, pedals etc I heard so many good things about this amp so I got me one!! Yee HAW!!!! Is all I can say, plus being basically lazy, your walk through of sounds and settings has really helped me. Got 2 slots at a wee festival at Eastbourne weekend after next, and thanks to your settings recommendations you have saved me a lot of knob twiddling's (oh matron-in best Kenneth Williams voice), I will now gander proud with my court wangler, to borrow from that great folk troubadour Rambling Sid Rumpo. Your playing and mastery of so many greats is quite astonishing as you nail them!! You, young man show what devoting many many hours of practice plus a god given good ear and talent, just how the guitar will reward you. Keep on keeping on Dave. Much brotherly love.

    I've had my heart set on a Katana MkII for a little while now, my only indecision was whether to get a 50 and a FS6/7, or to get the 100 and a bigger controller unit. (I'm on a budget, I love the controller but I'll almost certainly never gig the amp, it'll mostly be a bedroom/garage thing).
    I'm 24 minutes into the video and want to just pause it now, go out and fetch a 50 back RIGHT NOW.
    LIKE RIGHT THIS FLIPPIN' MINUTE.

Been playing through tube forevers... the more i explore this amp the more i get tuned with it and am able to dial in bomb sweet tones i always hope for with my tube amp n pedals. Also this little sumbeeeach is loud af. 50w is all you need. Even playing with a loud 3 piece. Its got that punch to it, also reacts great for those soulful players. Hmmmm im not gonna lie, im blown away.. ive had mine for 8 days. It went from ahhh its ok to holy sheit what a sweet little amp🤘👽😎🖖

    I have a Katana head that I use as essentially a pedal platform and it is more usable in almost any situation than any other amp I have owned, EVER!! Just a true piece of professional kit! To the complainers in the house, if the treble is too harsh, turn it down you numbskulls!

    • @edbauer8790
      @edbauer8790 6 років тому

      nicholas ditolla how do you set the amp to run pedals with it? Thinking of doing the same with my different drive pedals if it sounds good

    • @nickfit3
      @nickfit3 6 років тому +1

      Ed Bauer I use both the clean and crunch channels for different drive pedals. The clean is great for 'amp in a box' style pedals and the crunch is great for most anything else. I like 1x12 cabs so I have 2, one small closed back and a large open back and I prefer the large open back with this head. The real plus is that when I go to play I don't need to bring my big pedalboard to get usable sounds. The build in effects are very good! Oh yeah, and a built-in practice speaker too? Just silly how well thought out it is!!

    • @nickfit3
      @nickfit3 6 років тому +1

      Panic42000 well if you are holding it up next to a Two Rock then of course! But for what it is, and that it's 1/10 the cash of a Two Rock, Kemper, etc. I do get what you are saying, are John Mayer or Joe Bonamassa going to go out on tour and use a Katana? No, but I'm sure a fair number of people just may do that for the reliability, cost effectiveness, and Boss standards of quality. It's kinda like choosing between a Dodge Hellcat for $75,000 or a Bugatti Chiron for $2.5 million. It's a no brainer.
