Thanks for the video. I recently played a gig using my Katana Artists MKII. I programmed three patches, cleanish, dirty, and balls out. It worked pretty well but it does seem that the amp is a ripe pedal platform. I'm going to start from that angle now. My children are early and late teens now, but your daughter brings me back to that innocent time. Awesome!
OMG, I can't stop watching your daughter playing with wires, changing amp setting to max, and making pressure on the guitars on the guitar-stand. The most stressfull video ever to me LOL
How much better (stupid question I know) are the analogue pedals when compared to the effects on the Katana itself. Also, do share what guitar that is. Great video, thanks.

Great video Carl, how do you connect the MK2 katana 50 to your interface,the katana 50 got its own interface and you use a printer cable to connect to pc but lost how connect to my interface so I can use plugins on top too.
Also if the katana got built in effects are they not good if you have to use pedals or could you explain why. Still learning but a lot to learn. Lol
Hey Peter this was just a test to see if you could use pedals with the Boss Katana. The effects included are crazy good for the price so you don't need to buy more pedals these are just pedals I have purchased over the years. I connect my Katana via USB to change the settings on the computer. You can also just use a guitar lead to go through the output at the back of the katana and plug into your interface to get sound straight into your DAW

Does guitar still plug into katana in the input, at the back I have inputs for foot control, phones/rec out socket and power amp in socket, which one goes into interface. Many thanks
@@peterludlow9847 Hey Peter yes I connect my guitar to the Boss Katana as you usually would but then use the output from the back of the amp to your interface (phones/rec out). This then bypasses the sound of your boss katana speaker

Blues driver is already on the katana and most of the other effects as well. I got rid of a giant pedal board with pedals, the katana 50 replaced all that, sound is great! Play guitar now instead of playing with pedals.
That's why I bought my Katana. It's comes loaded with Boss pedals! You'll need to go into Panel mode to use pedals, no?
Are you using only the Input entrance or the "power amp in" with pedals?

I've had good luck with pedals going into the Katana 50. For a solid state amp, it does pull it off with some extra adjustments. However, some pedals are designed for tube amps. Those pedals can sound weak through the katana. The new "preamp style" drive pedals sound awesome. For the price, the Katana 50 can definitely be a gigging amp with pedals in front... and you can afford to try modern pedals. I've added a 10 band eq to my drive section to add some punch.
What are some examples of "preamp style" drive pedals?
@@jevonwhite5193 Revv G3 works great. Nothing can replace experimentation, and I found this pedal to work for me.
@@jevonwhite5193 Benson Preamp ... I also wanted to try the Strymon Riverside for its versatility. Those are "modern" pedals.

I am confused I thought if reverb or delay was set and you put pedals on the Katana 50 it would sound bad? It has no effects loop, I have only been playing for 4 months. Any help welcome from anyone
It can sound bad if you put too much. You just have to experiment. But what sounds ‘bad’ is subjective. Somebody may like that sound
The Boss Katana50 doesn’t have a pedal loop, so you are going into the amp though the input jack?
Good question! Also, which 50 do you own? The newer versions allow fx loops, which deserve a whole video of their own...!
The answer would be YES, he is playing into the input jack. The 50 has NO effects loop, not even the new gen 3 models coming out either.
i didnt know my katana can download IRs is that what they are? i have been only using plug in for awhile
I don’t think you can download irs for the boss katana. I am just adding plug-ins on top of the boss katana signal into my computer

I'm pretty sure your Fuzz Face is suffering with the boss tuner buffering into it. Try taking all the pedals before FF and redo the test.
I have a katana 100 mk2 but haven't really tried pedals I'm not impressed at all with built in sounds
It can take some time to tweak presets on there sometimes
@@Karlgolden i never messed to much with amp modeler i gotta try i noticed the interface showed a peal i haven't seen in the katana software i will look into the possibilities further thanks
They all sound great, man, the Blues Driver and Fuzz Face obviously do their job great with the clean but they just explode on the OD channel and I freaking loved it. Great demo as always, bro, and seeing your daughter in the background was rather cute as well
