Went to Normandy last summer. 64yo and on my bucket list. A must for anyone that loves history, especially military history.
Go, if you can, GO. I've been to all those places and it was wonderful. The American cemetery at Normandy is chilling and worth the cost of admission.
Tom my wife and I were on Omaha Beach in 2022 on a cruise excursion it was a very humbling experience when we went to the cemetery their was not a dry eye among us. I hope everyone has a chance to experience the museum and the hole experience. Please be safe and healthy enjoy retirement and GOD BLESS AMERICA 🇺🇸 🙏

Great video. When you retire travel, travel, travel. Enjoy the fruits of you labor. I retired in 2020 and have been to Europe 5 times. Visited all 5 beaches of Normandy. Retrieved sand from all 5 and now have them displayed. I've done Stephen Ambrose Tours and WW2 Museum tours and loved them all. I would seriously consider this tour except I'm already going to Europe (England, Germany, Poland, Austria, Venice and Switzerland) in August and September. My point is go see what you have read about and see these things in person. . Its fantastic. Still on my bucket list is Mont Saint-Michel which I saw was included in this tour. Maybe next year.........
Mont Saint Michel is absolutely phenomenal. You will feel as if you are back in the Middle Ages.
It's going to be a great trip for you and the wife, Tom! I went on a trip with my family to Normandy (and many other places in Europe) when I was a teenager... it was really something!
I really enjoyed this video. I've been to the Normandy beaches and it was a moving experience. My father was the Battalion aid surgeon who landed 2nd wave at Normandy Beach and was awarded a Silver star for his service there. Keep up the great work .

Hi Fred, That's a powerful wow. Thank you. Your Dad and his generation were one of a kind. I've read stories of the surgeons that saved so many lives by operating at the Battalion Aid Stations rather than moving the wounded soldiers back to the MASH units further back behind the line. It's hard to even comprehend the nerves of steel required to operate with mortar shells exploding around him. God Bless!
My dad served in the Navy during WW2. He was in France, Belgium, and Italy.
The food in Normandy is the best!

Yes, the 7th arrondissement is the best of all! I live in Paris since my teenage and les Invalides are my favorite building of ALL in Paris (and the courtyard inside is just amazing). The military museum is definitely worth seeing, and just next to it (on the side) is the Musée de l'Ordre de la Libération, with WW2 artefacts (guns too). I wish You a great trip! :)
great video , my father survived the normandy beach landing and always wanted to go back, he unfortunately passed away before dong so .
Would have loved to see him re-visit.
I hope you get to visit someday. Those young men who landed on the beach still seem very much alive. Just stand atop Omaha Beach at the Cemetery wall when a crisp wind ruffles the flag overhead and you feel their presence. It's powerful, brother.
The American cemetery in the Normandy region is amazing, don't miss it.
Make sure you stop at the Manor at la Fiere. A very famous 82 Airbourne battle site. I'm a proud member of D-Day Memory Tour. Contact JP Paviot the current owner of the manor beforehand and tell him I sent you. You won't be sorry you did

Great question John! .. we plan to see Omaha & Utah plus Pointe Du Hawk, and then see the Pegasus Bridge & Arromanches to catch the other 3!

"The US saved the world".....I'm thinking there were many thousands of British, Australian, New Zealand and Canadian troops heavily engaged in the battle "to save the world". But hey lets not forget its all about America. Your single comment shows total disrespect for the other Allied nations involved.

Joe and I apologize. Joe was talking off the cuff and in his enthusiasm exaggerated the US contribution to the war. We of course acknowledge the heroism of our Allies - especially the Britts, Canadians and the Aussie's. However, one must wonder the impact on England and Australia had the Japanese NOT bombed Peral Harbor.
100% yes you're right, friends in Australia! Just having fun :) We Army Rangers LOVE our Aussie counterparts in the Special Ops and worked with them and the Kiwi's in Iraq. & my best buddy is Canadian 2 Commando! Total team effort from the Allies. Thank you and your countrymen for your service. Hoo-ah
I know a lot of people hate facts these days but American involvement was the only reason the Germans lost WW1 and WW2. If your feelings are hurt by that fact then so what.
