It is amazing to think that someone thought covering the beautiful stone surrounds on the mantels and windows was a good idea. They lend so much character to the space. Glad you are reclaiming them.

How wonderful it is to see the granite emerging from behind all the layers of paint! The grounds are looking very nice, glad you got rain. I loved seeing the arc of lavender, those have filled out well. Good to hear the earthquake didn’t damage any of your buildings. Always a pleasure to see what you two accomplish, makes me realize it’s time for me to get to work!

Rols, I hope your hands are not too sore after all of that scraping and sanding. The window looks fabulous. Great job in the garden, both of you. I'm glad you had some rain. I am also glad the earthquake didn't do any damage. I was happy to hear you both are not overexerting yourselves, especially in that heat. Those roses and hollyhocks are beautiful. Take care both. See you soon.❤

@chateaucitadelleducavalier Thank you, Suzie. I have less pain now, and my nurses tell me the wound is looking healthy. I can drive short distances now. Maybe tomorrow I will go for a pedicure and look for some geraniums and marigolds for my hanging baskets. I would like to spice up my little outdoor space for my brother and SIL, who will visit for a week from Labrador. They are doing the train ride across Canada for the first time. Best wishes both.

The garden is looking great Suzie. Just one thing, what you referred to as "lillies" is actually Acanthus (common name Bear's Breeches!). A perennial which is as tough as old boots, even though it may die back to bare earth in a cold winter. You can chop bits off and move them around the garden in spring - free plants! Rols - your hard work on removing the paint from the granite is definitely worth the effort!

Good morning Rols & Suzie, the chateaux grounds are looking great. The levelling makes a big difference!! A pity about the trees going but they are an obstruction and better to get rid of them now than later. Paint can make a room so grand but used incorrectly can do more damage and it becomes expensive to also remove. The cleaned granite looks so nice, the room will be great afterwards. We are now dead centre in our winter season, just another 6 - 8 weeks to go and the worst will be over, in the meantime it is cold because it is "winter" and we just have to deal with it best as we can. Referring to the earthquake, we also experienced a bad rumble, 4,7 on the scale. It seems to me it was quite a shake as it also had an effect on the U.S.A.!! Fortunately we had no serious damage, neither in the other areas but many got a fright and the animals were quite upset. Glad to hear all fine in France. It can cause tremendous damage and loss of lives. Enjoy the gardening, the d.i.y. and have a great week. Take care, kind regards, Elize.

Rolls u doing a great job bring back the Character in those rooms . Being from NZ we have a lot of Earthquake’s here every day and every minute but must we can not feel . The biggest one ive felt was the 7.8 we had back in 2016 which was very scary . And did a lot of damage too . Being in a stone building at over 100 years old is a worry but the stones those buildings are made of are very thick so should hold together . Wooden homes rock with the sway of the quake . Anyway take care .

Its 47 degrees here with high wind warning up to 35 mph this afternoon. Thaat will drop the temoerature down even more. I don't thik were even going to get a summer. I've got Holly hock seeds of every color. I love them too. We have had rain here on the desert for the last 4 weekes. It's so wet all the time my seed is rotting. The desert is so green. I've lived here 30 years and have never seen anything like it. That means fire season will be bad this year. The stone around the window is such tedious work but so beautiful when done. The ‘lilies’ with big leaves are acanthus. They are beautiful. Enjoying seeing your progress.

Great job even if i completely disagree about the hazelnut trees. The room doesn't seem particularly darkened by the trees and they make a wonderful view

Thank you for watching, I had work lights on in that room which has probably given the impression of it being lighter

I'm one of those binge watchers having just discovered your vlog. For ants, try diatomaceous earth. When we moved into our house we had no idea that our entire neighborhood was built on top of a giant ant hill. Every summer we were inundated with ants. We eventually got a service to come out and spray the foundation, but the one thing we found that worked was diatomaceous earth. It is organic, it does not hurt the plants, and it comes in powder form so you can sprinkle it on the tree or plant and around the base. It kills by desiccation. The poor critters dry up and die. It also works well on snails and slugs who tend to love strawberries as much as we do. Unfortunately, we were getting little and they were getting most of them.

The granite surround and the fireplace give the room a lovely air of the past. I think humanity just gets bored and paints and plasters over stuff and the next owner or generation spends their life undoing that work. At least the château isn't over restored! I think your tree is an almond or something similar as the leaves look too long and skinny for hazel. I think chopping down 2 out of 3 is OK but your under plants will also enjoy the extra light. Thanks for sharing, I imagine sometimes a vlog is a slog!

Hello Bridget, thanks for watching. Well spotted, they are almonds, the hazelnut tree is the other side of the garden. A senior moment 😂

My goodness! What a wonderful window. Btw, if the trees are hazelnut trees, what about moving them to the orchard? Or really hard pruning, they should be half the size at the very least. Or at least, wait until autumn to collect all the hazelnuts. Whatever, u r doing an amazing job. Congratulations to u both xx

Thanks for watching. Two of the trees look to have self seeded and are far too close to each other and the building so they will be taken down, the original will probably be pollarded in the winter.

It’s looking like a tower room and not just a room with a big fireplace. Credit to your hard work. ❤ we’ve been getting a few earthquakes here is Australia, not used to many but they’re only small 😅

Thank you Paula, welcome aboard. Good luck with the binge watching, we're on episode 121 now 😂 Don't judge us too harshly on the early episodes, we've learned a lot about filming etc since then 😂 Have a great week, Suzie and Rols

Superb work in the garden and the house. It must be extra hard in the hot weather.
Have you thought of keeping the hazels for their shade and using the tower room as your summer bedroom, or are all the rooms cool enough to sleep in and the light is a higher priority?

Hello Daisy, thank you for watching. We suspect 2 of the trees are self seeded as they are much too close to each other, we are of a mind to keep the original tree. They are also too close to the building. Have a lovely week, Suzie and Rols

Hello Sheila, thanks for watching. It tends to be quite expensive in this area so we would prefer to put that money elsewhere. Best wishes, Suzie and Rols
