Waffle House is very important to us in Florida especially during hurricanes. Decent inexpensive food. They stay open when other places close even when they have to use a generator and a limited menu. They help feed first responders.

Salam I'm born and raised in Oregon USA my parents are from Oran. And moved to the USA in 1908. I still have some aunts from my mom's side who live there. And an uncle from my dad's side who still lives there. I visited once a few summers ago and it was amazing. I stayed 3 months in Oran and a few weeks in Annaba. I appreciate your channel and keep up the great videos. Also wanted to say I think you guys should be more confident and do a cooking video. Don't let how your kitchen looks be the reason not too. You would be surprised that many Americans and a lot of your viewers would enjoy the different perspective and they are good non judgemental people. Your country is beautiful if you're not comfortable cooking inside you should cook outside. I think it would be good for your channel and you never know you might enjoy it a lot. Take care my brothers. Inshallah I wish good health to you and your family.

Hi GUYS! PURE maple syrup is more runny and distinctly naturally sweeter than "processed" (ingredient is corn or other syrups) syrup. There are grades from light to dark and you don't need a whole lot of it. And yes, those hash brown potatoes are best (to me) when they're cooked a little longer and browned so you get that "crunch"! You could make these at home by shredding potatoes and cooking them in oil/butter til they're golden brown. Some people add a little diced (tiny) onions with it... Great with EGGS!

For the white/country gravy it’s usually made with pork. But while I’ve never tried it with lamb sausage you might be able to do it. Basically you brown sausage then use the drippings to cook out some flour then slowly add in milk and reduce it down into a fairly thick sauce. Add the meat and a touch of cayenne pepper.

I watched the original video and completely glossed over the fact my comment was highlighted at the beginning. For reference that was made on a video they had a Tomahawk Steak, and that was what the 2nd part was about. Waffles are similar to pancakes but have a lot more crispy edges due to the indentations.

You boys crack me up! So funny! Im a grama that’s made all the dishes they ate , most of my like. I raised 4 boys and all hearty eaters. Grits are the exception. Blah! Gross and will say no more about it. All of it’s easy to make( for me anyway but then I don’t go into restaurants and pay for food that’s not great. Eating out anywhere is never the quality as home cooked. One exception is a place that used to be here called the Samoa Cook House! That was awesome and cooked everything from scratch too! It used to be a loggers cook house. They would feed the crews all their meals there and had it set up with big long tables and would bring in the platters and bowls of home cooked meals for the whole groups. Giant bowls of mashed potatoes, huge platers of buttermilk biscuits ( that’s what I make and are the best) platers of fried eggs and a plater of scrambled! Big bowl of white sausage gravy made with milk (only way to make it) and platters of pancakes and syrup! Platers of sausage and bacon. As my boys ate them up they would keep it coming with more of everything. Just one price and all you can eat!!!! Sad seeing you boys watching and can’t get it. Don’t worry someday you can get over here and maybe stay like so many do! It’s a huge country and can’t wait to see you two over here making videos of your journey. As my mom always said “if there’s a will there’s a way!”

Hash versus Hashis, there is a difference. One is a food and one is a plant. Lol
It's one of the few things you can't just randomly say and people understand. Regular hash can be a mix of ham and cheese ground up and cooked like a loose meat (like a broken up hamburger), it can be short for hash browns (shredded potatoes that can be pressed back together like a hamburger). Depending on the area of America it can have a different culinary definition.

FUN FACT: The southeast United States is also where many hurricanes hit. Waffle House is a 24 hour operation and they can operate with limited menu even if they do not have electricity.
FEMA the Federal Emergency & Management Agency is the prime agency when there is a natural disaster like a hurricane. They use the Waffle Houses in the areas affected as a measuring stick on how bad a area is hit.
If they are open with full menu - the area is OK
If they are open with a limited menu - Area hit moderately
If they are closed - SEND FEMA UNITS THERE ASAP - AREA HIT HARD
Two egg breakfast - eggs over medium - bacon - hash browns scattered, smothered, covered and chunked.

I like to think of it as a free floor show:) Drunks can be entertaining as long as I don’t have to personally deal with them. OTOH, they can be annoying as hell even if I’m not personally dealing with. The repetitious ones are the worst.
And grits with sugar-just no. I know there are people who do it and they’re often even native southerners, but that’s just wrong.
I know that the brothers don’t eat pork, so in place of the sausage gravy, they might want to try creamed chipped beef. It’s usually served on toast though I don’t see why it wouldn’t be quite as tasty on biscuits. I know that it’s not at all a substitute for the sausage gravy on biscuits experience, but it’s in that “family”, so to speak, and it is beef instead of pork.

The grits are meant to have butter, salt, and pepper on them. There is a similar dish in appearance called Cream of Wheat or Farina that you would mix milk and sugar into. I also add ground cinnamon. Hash brown are wonderful. I always like getting the "bowls" offered on a breakfast menu because its usually a bunch of items mixed together and can be eaten easily. You guys may skip the sausage or bacon and opt for a different breakfast meat. Most of the time, pork in some form is what is served for breakfast. However, its perfectly fine to use any other.

Waffle house is so weird. On the way out of an east Texas waffle house I saw my Dad step on a random baggy on the ground. I turned it in at the counter, and boy did all the workers move fast. For the record, cannabis is illegal in Texas. They were still falling over each other to claim it was theirs. It was so weird. So while hash in texas is just a mixture of grilled potatoes and odds and ends, the workers would probably be familiar with the other kind of hash.

Btw hashish was very popular especially during the 1970's, it's a concentrate of the Cannabis plant.
Hashbrowns are not the same ;)
Biscuits are made from flour, (selfrising) butter, water or better yet buttermilk, and baked, while the gravy can be made in several types of ways.
Most usual gravy that is eaten over biscuits are made from flour, fat from cooked meats, (beef or pork sausage, buttermilk).
There are substitutes for those who do not eat pork products, but want to experience the flavor.
Mushrooms are a perfect flavor substitute for pork products.
It is not a sweet dish, it's more salty, and peppery, and often has a little spicey kick to it.
The sandwich is griddled with butter, beef hamburger, cheese, and griddled onions (caramelized).

Waffle House is open around the clock, so after the bars close, usually around 2:00 AM, people will go to Waffle House for something to eat and since they’ve been drinking they can be rowdy, loud and obnoxious. I looked it up, a Waffle House pecan waffle is 560 calories. Waffles tend to be lighter and fluffier than pancakes. They’re cooked in a special double sided pan called a waffle iron. They don’t use real maple syrup which would make it more expensive, so that’s probably what’s called “pancake syrup”. Hash brown potatoes are potatoes that had been shredded and cooked in butter or oil until crispy on the outside and softer on the inside. You can add cheese to them. That “bowl” they’re eating has hash brown potatoes on the bottom, apparently some cheese, scrambled eggs and diced breakfast sausage. The biscuits are covered with a white gravy sometimes called sausage gravy. It’s not sweet at all, the base is made with flour, milk, salt and pepper and crumbled breakfast sausage. You cook the sausage in a pan first, sprinkle with flour, stir well for a couple of minutes then add the milk until it’s thickened into a gravy.

There is no real butter (it's whipped vegetable oil) nor actual real maple syrup at the Waffle House. It's still good though. Well, except for the grits. Hash browns are shredded potatoes that are fried. That gravy, simple way to make it, is equal parts of melted butter and flour cooked together, Stir the flour and butter (about two spoonfuls) around for a minute or so to cook off the raw taste of the flour. Add about a cup of milk if it starts getting really paste like thick, add another cup of milk. Lots of pepper and salt to taste, no sugar. You can put some cooked in minced beef also. I sometimes have it with toasted bread when I'm too lazy to make biscuits. Plenty of recipes on UA-cam.

search again but this time search for a hash brown recipe. there is no narcotics in it at all. it's not hashsh. In fact, hashsh is illegal and the resturant would have been shut down and the ppl arrested for possession and selling of hasish. two dfferent things.

The gravy is made with milk or cream, butter, flour, salt, black pepper, more black pepper, and did I say black pepper? And it contains browned loose pork sausage generally but you can replace it with your own chicken sausage or whatever is available if you're halal and it also contains a good sprinkle of cayenne pepper or a shot of hot sauce.

Hashbrowns are basically fried potatoes that has been grated.
You really have to have a hot grill to properly cook hashbrowns, this is because if you attempt to cook on a low heat
the water and startch tend to take longer to evaporate this causes the potatoe's to basically boil and not fry.
The ultimate goal to reach when cooking hashbrowns is for the inside to be moist, and the outside slightly crisp.
Understanding that some food types are known to always be cooked on certain types of cookware, may not apply in expectation of a
person not familiar with the difference.
An example of this is if the menu states grilled hashbrowns, in reality it's cooked on a cookware stove known as a griddle, this is a solid
stainless steel plate but it has no grates, the plate is most often heated using natural gas burners under the plate,
giving it a better heat distribution, than rather a pan over a flame.
Other times a menu may state grilled chicken, beef, or pork, and be cooked on a griddle and not a grill.
The key is understanding the type of restaurant one is visiting.
A restaurant such as o'reilly's or the Golden Corral steakhouse's use an actual gas grill, in which has a metal grate.
If we consider fast food restaurants to compare, I prefer Burger King over McDonald's, as McDonald's cooks their meat over a griddle plate,
while Burger King flame broils their meat, over an open flame.
So the Burger King meat has a grilled flavor, while McDonalds has more of a fried flavor without a grilled flavor.
Since Burger King meat is being cooked over an open flame it allows the fat which is filled with sugars to caramelize on the outide
    of the meat.
And beef connoisseurs know that Angus beef is the best for grilling, because of the sugars in the meat itself.

Hashbrowns are shredded potatoes that are fried & can be served with cheese, onions, & peppers; & yeah, those weren't biscuits, but English muffins (I'm surprised they were even in Texas & not up north somewhere where they don't know what the hell they're doing lol). And I for one would love to see you two make if not white gravy then maybe your favorite halal foods.

You don't see Waffle House on the West Coast, At less I have not. But it is popular in the South and East Coast. When visiting Waffle House in North Carolina, the food and price is on the lower end. Waffles and Pancakes are Delicious. But quality of eggs not so much. Lower Income people can afford to go there. You might see all types of people. But I find them very friendly and easy to talk too. All the work staff are really hard working and sweet people that I have met. This is my opinion as l live the west coast and the owner of these do not put money into keeping these building maintained.

The vast majority of the states prohibit alcohol sales after 2:00 am, and not before 9:00 am.
Some states prohibit bars from selling alcohol after 11:00 pm.
At other times there are what's known as dry counties, these are counties in which prohibit the sale of alcohol in any
forms, but oddly there are dry counties in which have exclusive alcohol producing economies.
Whereas they are allowed to distill, and or brew, but cannot be purchased in the county, it can only be sold out going.
Other states and or counties have what's known as "Blue Label" laws, these are laws that prohibit any alcohol sales
Starting 12:00pm Saturday - 12:01am Sunday, while it's a religious type of law,
many have in recent years removed it, because it advocates one religion over another.
Here in South Carolina Alcohol that is distilled cannot be sold in a liquor store before 9:00 am nor after 7:00 pm,
Monday through Saturday, while they are required to be closed on Sundays.
Licensing varies however to on premise sales of alcohol that is served, which has a different hour scheduling.
So people who drink, often all have the munchies, and want something to eat thus visiting places such as Waffle House,
Denny's. Etc. that are open 24/7.
It can get unruly, and loud after 2:00am, mostly among party members.
Grits made from corn, is a startchy food, that continues to cook like rice, so it must be removed quickly as soon as it has evaporated
most of the water, otherwise it becomes too mushy, grits must be soft, but retain some body.
Grits is best at that moment piled with plenty of butter to keep it from drying out too much in a bowl or on a plate.
Keep in mind grits have very little flavor and requires salt/pepper/butter to really bring out the corn flavor.
I myself enjoy frying a couple of eggs over easy and placed on top, cut up and then eaten.
But you can adjust other flavorings to the grits dish to make it your own unique preference.
I like a bit of small chopped green onions added, can add your favorite cut meat also.
Some eat it with bacon bits mixed in, real diced bacon taste the best, but one can purchase fake flavored bacon.
Like Turkey bacon, is basically turkey shaped like bacon strips, that have a smokehouse, or a maple flavor.
But instead of being made from Pig/pork it's made from Turkey/Fowl.
While some folks do put sugar over their grits, I do not.

People will tell you that waffle and pancake batter are the same thing but they're really not. Those are the people who have waffles that are soft instead of Crispin firm on the outside and tender and steamy on the inside. Waffle batter has more oil than pancake batter when it hits the waffle iron it gets golden brown and crisp on the outside

We make our gravy with ground breakfast sausage like Jimmy Dean. Those Grits looked watery to me. They are usually thicker in consistency. @4:00 Is maple syrup good for you if it is real, aka "natural"? Nerd mode initiated.
Dr. Jessie Inchauspe, a French researcher and scientist, wrote a book, "Glucose Revolution," which I had the pleasure to read. She had health issues due to an injury of a precarious nature. She made it her life's goal to get to the bottom of what ailed her. Eventually she realized a major factor in her illness was blood sugar levels. Besides her own research, she also read 100s of scientific studies on the subject. And then she wrote that book.
Turns out, any sugar can be bad for you. And a primary reason it can become bad, is if it spikes your blood sugar level. Such spikes wreak havoc on your body and cause a multitude of issues. But there are simple ways to prevent these spikes. The reason why I say "sugar can be bad" is because it doesn't have to be. She found out that eating food with fiber right before you eat sugar, will coat the stomach in fiber that causes sugars (and carbs as they break down into sugar) to be absorbed into the blood much more slowly. Less effective, but still helpful, is eating fats and proteins first (like meat, cheese, yogurt). She found many more helpful tricks as well, but TL;DR.
    CLIFFS NOTES VERSION:
High fructose corn syrup is the worst for you because your body cannot store it directly, and it has to be converted by the liver to be used (or stored). Thus causing problems if not used up right away and is just sitting in your blood. As well as putting strain on your liver.
But even glucose and other forms of sugar are bad if your blood sugar spikes too high. The remedy though is not to eliminate sugar, but to eat it intelligently (especially with fiber before eating it).
