Pro move adding the sausage gravy to the hash browns bowl!! 👍
Or adding syrup
Yes!!
Just say smothered when ordering.
Smothered and covered.
you can ask them to add gravy to a hashbrown bowl.. its a small upcharge but worth it
Just letting you know, at wafflehouse, you can order that hash brown bowl with sausage gravy on it. You don't have to order exactly like the menue has it. This is Anerica y'all! Lol
It was delicious with the gravy on. Thanks for the heads up we will definitely get the gravy added next time.
I add gravy to mine, too. Can't have it plain now.
Putting gravy on the egg bowl was a pro move!! Great job!!!!
Grits with butter, salt and pepper and cheese are the best
This sounds delicious, and so tasty!
Plus shrimp
@@dugswank My dad was born Mississippi, he prefers butter, salt and pepper on his grits. Mom was born in Chicago and loves shrimp and grits. My siblings and I grew up in California and love sugar in our grits.
Sugar doesn't go in grits. It's butter, salt, and pepper. This is the ongoing debate that has torn families apart.
Sugar definitely goes in grits. Or it sure does down here in Alabama
half a spoon of sugar, drizzle of the pancake syrup, and butter in grits, that's my style
I agree about the sugar. This is even worse than putting ketchup on a hot dog. Two things you can certainly put on grits, cheese and shrimp !
Wars have been started on less than this discussion on grits.
Butter, salt, pepper, and hot sauce ❤
When we have grit, we put pepper butter and crispy bacon in and mix it all together also I love grits with cheese and shrimp too
Oh that sounds really good, we will make sure we try this!
Yes!!
Cheese and shrimp. Lordy!
@@thebritstryCrispy bacon = spoons
@@SansAzizaAbsolutely! Bacon is the appropriate utensil for eating grits.
You don't get the true experience without being wasted at 2:30am.
It's all about those late-night adventures! Thanks for watching.
Sit in a corner booth with your back against the wall! Just sit, eat and people watch at that time.
It's like dinner theater at 2:30 AM you get a meal and a show
Broooooo. You did a legit middle of the night Waffle House?
"I'm not sure what to expect" Correct. 😂😂😂
Thanks for watching! the food was great and the prices were amazing! we can see that it would be great for a late night stop on the way home.
Grits can be eaten savory or sweet. About 98% of the people I know would never put sugar or syrup in grits. But, to each his own, even if wrong. 😂
Butter? Absolutely.
And/or eggs over easy or scrambled, crumbly bacon, crumbled pan sausage, ham and so on…. 👍🏼
The butter with eggs and bacon sounds wonderful and some that we must try!😀
True Southern grits are cooked until thick an served with lots of butter and pepper. You cook the grits in salted water. Delicious.
Well that is how I've always had them. But, I was just in the hospital and had THE BEST grits ever. They were creamy and smooth. The were cooked with some milk too. OMG so good that way. I will be doing it the next time I make my grits.
I was feed good in that hospital. It was actually a grits bowl for breakfast. When have you ever heard of that? It had bits of bacon, bits of scrambled eggs and bits of cheddar cheese.
Pecan waffle!!! A GREAT choice! They do simple reliable GOOD food. Ask for extra crispy hash browns. NO sugar on grits! (Floridian here - only time I ever saw anyone put sugar on grits were tourists from Canada. LOL! Sacrilege!
Waffle House really does do go simple food, at great prices.
Agree NO SUGAR in grits. LOL
@@thebritstryYou can put whatever you want on YOUR grits. I can have them either way, and sometimes with cheese, but my favorite way is with sugar and cinnamon. It's the same for the rest of my southern family.
As a Tennessean, I can assure you that grits can be savory or sweet. Anyone who is paying that much attention to your food choices needs better choices of their own. People usually prefer them not sweet, I'll agree on that.
i work at a wh in fl, there's a regular who orders a bowl of cheese grits and uses sugar. some people ask for honey or syrup too
NO!!! No sugar in your grits. Most Southerners do not eat grits that way -- Northerners do. Grits in the south are grits, butter, salt, and pepper. Cheese added for an extra creamy flavor. Other ingredients as you wish (runny eggs, pan sausage, and - of course - shrimp and grits combo).
YES YES YES 🙌🏻 ❤❤❤
I'm northern and I don't put no gosh darn sugar in my grits. We didn't grow up eating that mess. That's blasphemy! Just eat cream of wheat if you need sugary mush!
Southerner here, I love both ways. Sometimes savory, sometimes sweet. Depends on my mood.
I grew up in Virginia, and I agree with no sugar in grits, and normally butter, salt, and pepper with occasionally the other additions you mentioned.
I hadn't seen anyone ever put sugar in grits until I was in college at VA Tech, and a fellow student from New Jersey put sugar and milk in her grits one morning when we were eating breakfast in the cafeteria. I was horrified. She said she just put in what she would put in cream of wheat.
Northerner here… we don’t eat grits at all
Waffle House is a staple in the South. When we were kids (I’m now 69), we didn’t know hamburger and hotdog buns were a thing. We were raised on white bread. But, sweeties, we do not put sugar on our grits. Cream of Wheat maybe but not grits. 😅😅😅❤
From GA…. Sugar and more goes in our grits
The sugar tip was recommended for us to try! and we will try anything once! Thank you for sharing your childhood memories and food preferences with us. It's always heartwarming to reminisce.
Thanks for sharing
The hash browns , egg and sausage was just cryin' for some hot sauce !!! The Tabasco def works, but imho , ironically , Texas Pete sauce is the best
Sugar in grits is cream of wheat if you add milk and butter with it.
Team grits w/butter,salt,pepper and a lil cheese
I love that you went at night, as close as you can get to the real WH experience without drunks or a fight.
My sister loves shrimp and grits and if it’s in a menu she tries it.
Ya’ll should look into South Carolina, try their barbecue, Low Country food, etc.
Or the latest video of the WH of a Guy dancing at the Grill and rhe woman dancing in the seats 🤦🤦🤦 My people 🤦♀️🤦♀️
😂
Biscuits and gravy with hashbrowns , scrambled eggs and bacon. Yum.
grits with butter, salt, lots of pepper, jalapenos, bacon, cheese.
Yyyyyeeesss!!
You guys are becoming true Americans and getting adventurous with your food. I love you added the gravy to the bowl totally would've done that. I usually add brown sugar to my grits lol but I'm sure it was lovely with the sausage or burger as well.❤
I love your reactions because you are both beautiful, wonderful people with tons of charisma. Your playful banter and teasing makes me smile throughout. You are comfort food for the heart. 😂❤
Thank you so much for your kind words! We're thrilled to hear that our reactions bring a smile to your face.
Now, the way to eat at Waffle House, is to go out that night, get hammered, and show up glassy eye'd at 2 in the morning. lol.
This right here. They atleast got the closest to a true waffle house experience I've seen on a yt video.
i never put sugar in grits, but i do add salt butter and cheese yummy
TABASCO goes on biscuits & gravy!!!! 🤣😂❤❤❤
Where’s the grilled onions?! Boy y’all missed out without the onions.
Thanks for sharing the Tabasco advice! we will have to try that next time.
No, no it doesn't
@@scottwilson8039 😂🤣😂
@@scottwilson8039 I'll allow it! could work to cut through the richness of the gravy
Butter, salt, and pepper. Sugar goes in Cream of Wheat , or Farina.
Ketchup or hot sauce on your hash brown bowl, and only salt, butter and/or cheese, cheese grits. Eggs in the grits with butter, you can throw some sausage in there too. Sugar just doesn't go well with grits.
Love your videos!
One of the main things about Waffle House is that you can customize your food in any way you can imagine. If something is shown on the menu, you can add it to something else. This combining has developed its own short-hand code for the true WH aficionado. So you can add gravy (or onions, etc. ) to anything.
The onions take a patty melt to another level
We did ask but we missed out unfortunately, the server was run off there feet. Thanks for sharing!
To each their own, but as someone who can communicate with grits - I tell you they do not like when you put sugar on them, that’s for oatmeal and cream of wheat.
You don't HAVE to get a biscuit. You can ask for a bowl of gravy on the side.😁
Gravy without biscuits is no way to go through life.
True! But extra gravy to pour over that breakfast bowl would have been a delicious💣
It's strange when it comes to sugar. Even with cornbread the northern style is packed with sugar while the southern style isn't. I wonder how that developed with foods.
I make roasted garlic and cheese grits which are delicious and I do cook them down a bit so they are thicker. I also like them fried with maple syrup. My dad would make grits and put them in the refrigerator overnight and then make patties and fry it up for breakfast in a bit of grease left over from frying the bacon. Add a bit of maple syrup and they were excellent. All I needed for breakfast was fried grits and a couple of rashers of bacon and I was a happy girl.
First timers and already life hacking the gravy onto the hash hashbrown bowl.
Glad yall had fun! Hashbrowns with literally everything is the best
I just love your adventurous food spirit and look forward to your new videos. As a Southerner, the additional ingredient to grits has been an ongoing debate. What is added will really depend on where you're from. Me, being from east-central Alabama prefer salt, pepper, and butter but will occasionally either mix it with my eggs (fried or scrambled), bacon, or sausage. YUUUUUMMMMM. I have seen some of my Mississippi relatives put grape jelly in them but OMG that is YUK to me. To each their own though. Keep experimenting.....you will perfect your own recipe for sure.
I love seeing you both being you both! You guys are actually quite funny. You said you'd deliver more of yourselves, and you delivered. Thanks for sharing!
pro move is to add more pepper to all gravy, they leave it light so people can season it themselves
Now you understand the wonders of Waffle House. Try putting ketchup on the patty melt it brings it to another level.
What…we will have to try this next time we go to Waffle House. 🤗
People who put sugar in their grits were not raised right. Ill die on that hill. Lol
I love the reactions and your chemistry. Love the videos!! 😊
I’ve been waiting for this one. I’d say you figured it out!
America loves you both!!
I don't remember how many times I've been to Waffle House. I'm sure alcohol played a role in that.
Same here 🤣🥃🍻
lol!
Love You Guys!! Grits is like Porridge, in that it is a vehicle for the Flavors (Butter, Shrimp, Andouille Sausage, Bacon, Cheese, Hot Sauce, etc...) you put into it
P.S. Nicola, your laugh is contagious!! 😁
You guys pretty much did the Bourdain WH Tasting Menu from his visit. Love it. It's the best.
FYI. Waffle House is considered drunk food for after the bar or “pub” due to extremely limited options after 2am. I’ve never witnessed anyone going there sober, myself included.
😂😂😂😂😂😂
I'm pretty sure they know that, especially since one of them said very specifically before they went in that they weren't drunk :D
There and taco bell have good drunk munchies 😋
@@altones1952 Ah but I hate Taco Bell lol I honestly can't stand Taco Bell. I don't think I've ever, not one time enjoyed anything I've gotten from them - and it's usually friends or a nephew etc. getting us stuff and I still just, I just can't with them :(
@LordLOC I don't like taco bell much either but that's why I consider it "drunk munchies" . Everything tastes better after a good buzz 😋 🤣
Im a southerner and Grits - butter AND sugar...just like Cream of Wheat.
That is in NO way the Southern way to eat grits.
I agree. I actually don't like cream of wheat but love sugar and butter in my grits.
And that taste nothing like real cream a wheat.
Yeah, when I get grits there I have to put a ton of butter, salt and pepper on the grits. Usually I have it with breakfast food, so I'll have some egg, sausage and grits on the fork. That bite works for me. I never put sugar in my grits, but, to each his own I guess.
Hey y'all, another great video! I really enjoy your reactions! For the sausage bowl, the gravy is a must with hot sauce too! And I really like the pecan waffles too!!! Take care, and safe travels!! And keep up the great reviews!!
Oh I do hope, that y'all can visit, Central Oklahoma soon!!!!
Thank you so much for your kind words and suggestions! We really appreciate your support. We would love to visit Oklahoma in the future.
In Michigan biscuits and gravy topped with eggs, meat and potatoes is called a Southern Bowl or Skillet...then you add a little Louisianna hot sauce too! That sausage melt would be great with grilled onions on grilled rye like a patty melt with sausage gravy dip! Another American classic similar to grits is "Coco Wheat" like chocolate flavored grits. Great with toast for dipping. I came from a family of 6 and a box could feed our family for just a few bucks.
If you are ever in Houston Texas try a buffet called Pancho's it tex Mex cuisine with a lot of choices and the sopapilla rolls are so good especially when you cut a whole in them and add the honey
grilled onions on the patty melt makes it better.
Yeah, we missed out as the server was very busy! next time we will make sure we get some! Thanks for watching
My favorite place to eat breakfast lunch or supper
Have you guys tried the golden corral buffets. Its another southern staple. There food is good as well.
You guys are still in Texas! That is super sweet. My special experience in Texas is from 1992, working on Leonardo DiCaprio’s makeup for “What’s Eating Gilbert Grape”, he needed prosthetics made for his Arnie character. He got nominated for an Oscar (TM) and I feel my makeup design helped a little. *The coffee and breakfast at the hotel in Austin was solid, and the taste of that coffee, the aroma, it’s indescribable.*
I remember taking my then brother and sister in-laws from Ireland to WF here in Wake Forest NC and their reaction was amazing....lol..."Oh my ...That's brilliant!!"
You guys are awesome 😂❤
Thanks for your kind words! and for watching.
That gravy on the mix bowl is 🔥🔥There’s a spot here in Texas called Old West Cafe. They have the 6 Shooter it’s
1 chicken fried steak
2 biscuits on top
smothered with Gravy
And topped off with 2 eggs 😋
actually when a tree is tapped the this syrup comes out, its actually in its cheapest form. it takes cooking it down to get the medium thickness, but most purist like dark syrup which is super thick and concentrated. the best syrup ( family owns a tree farm) is from Massachusetts. Canada also does a nice syrup.
I think I almost died when you dumped that sugar in the grits...NOooooo!
Try the susage egg and cheese bown again, with a soft yolk. The yolk works as a right sauce for the hashbrowns. The hashbrowns are also great “peppered” (containing chopped jalapeño peppers.
Sounds delicious! I'll definitely give it a try! Thanks for watching
Cheesy buttery grits, seasoned with a pinch of cayenne, and crispy chopped bacon pieces sprinkled on top. Served next to a fried egg tucked into a buttermilk biscuit w/ a side of sausage gravy / grape jelly to dip the biscuit into. I need to find a cardiologist....
Thank you for sharing your mouth-watering meal description! Now we are hungry.
southerners, we never put sugar in grits butter or gravy fried egg with yolk salt pepper or cheese served with fried fish Sunday breakfast n gravy
If have chance to go to a Bob Evans. My go to is the sunshine skillet. It kind of like what you did with hashbown but with cube potatoes.
i normally have grits when i have fried eggs over easy or medium and then mash the eggs up in the grits sometime i add chopped up sausage patties
Ketchup on the hash brown bowl is sooo good.
Thanks for the tip! I'll have to try it next time I have a hash brown bowl.
Biscuits and Gravy. The staple of my breakfasts
That's exactly how I eat my hashbrown bowl with gravy!!😂 love it!!
When u make you own grits here in nc we put salt pepper bacon cheese in ours you can even put your scrabble eggs too
That sounds delicious! we will have to try that in the future. Thanks for sharing
At home, if you're interested in trying something unique, grits can be slightly thickened and by adding just a touch of cornmeal, you can make some outstanding fritters/cakes with them. Usually when we do this we will add some fine diced jalapeños, fine diced onions and shredded cheese and you can pick them up and eat them with your hands, almost like large taco chips. I know it sounds a little strange, but they are great. The hardest part is getting the grits to the correct consistency so they fry up crispy without being burned. Pour them out (similar to how you would a pancake) in 3 to 4 inch rounds and they cook pretty quick.
Butter even cheese in grits. Gravy does go in the breakfast bowl. At least that’s what we did. And you can get hash browns by themselves and add a number of different things. Chili, cheese and onions are popular. I like the tomatoes and ham too. You can add bacon to the patty melt. That’s what makes it. Along with the grilled onions. And use the Waffle House sauce. I worked for Waffle House overnight for several years. Funnest job I’ve ever had!
It sounds like you had some fun and tasty experiences working at Waffle House! Thanks for the delicious recommendations of hash browns with Chili, cheese and onions. we will have to try those next time. Thanks for watching
I love the chocolate chip waffle with nothing on it but the whipped spread they give you. ❤
On grits...salt, pepper, butter, cheese, bacon, sausage, shrimp but NO SUGAR
Thanks for sharing your grits preferences! It's sounds delicious!
The pecan waffle is my fav!! Next time ask for warm syrup. 😋😋
I also love the Texan bacon chicken melt with waffle house sauce. 🔥🔥
Hashbrowns covered, chunked and peppered. Adding the biscuit gravy is def a pro move. 😍
Gotta try your grits with salt, pepper, butter, and cheese and eat them with a spoon!!
Definitely put cheese in grits. Never heard about sugar. I’m from Georgia
with grits its a personal preference i like mine with lots of butter and salt(savory) maybe even some crumbled up bacon.. some do like sugar or even a jam/jelly .. oatmeal is also the same here its a preference in individual taste
Hello from Philadelphia,PA you guys need to come here and try
Max's or Dalessandros Cheesesteaks( don't go to the tourist spots lol)
Hoagies from All Day Hoagies/I scream for Ice cream
Soft pretzels from Center City pretzels
Fred's water ice.
The Reading Terminal and try Beiler's donuts
and any other foods your heart desires.
We have great food here!
love it!
Thanks for watching!
Hey, guys, did you notice the thickness of a traditional American waffle? About half that of a Belgian one. I think the American version may have come from the Pennsylvania Dutch (German really; a misnomer for Deustch). Don't forget the blueberries on top, Lol. Happy eating, 👍
Dipping bacon or breakfast sausage in syrup is a must. As for the grits eat them any way you want.
If you guys are in Houston, Texas, visit the Breakfast Klub. You won't be disappointed. Chicken and Waffles, and Fish and Grits are staples there.
The biscuits are fried on the grill! You can ask them to add any ingredients that they have, to anything you are eating!
Grits are not meant to have sugar. However, you can put salt, pepper, butter and even cheese. They taste amazing like that.
While visiting Texas restaurant Pappadeaux's is a must!
I like a regular patty melt with onions. It comes on rye bread, and I like ketchup on it.
Perhaps if you are able to travel into Wisconsin - look to stop into a few supper clubs
NO SUGAR in the grits..butter salt and pepper to taste..you can add cheese to that mix also..I do all of the above and then add 2 over easy eggs and mix then you can have either bacon, sausage or country ham with toast on the side
Sounds like a delicious breakfast idea! Thanks for watching
You need to try Bob Evans sausage biscuits and gravy. Out of this World.
I like thick grits with milk and maple syrup, so it's like cream of wheat or cream of rice.
No sugar in grits! LOL Grits, at least in my family, is to be mixed all up in the eggs, which are cooked sunny side up, and with whatever potatoes that are cooked with our breakfast as well as either the bacon or sausage. As we call it in the South, you slop it all together and then you have the toast or biscuits to slop it all up! LOL Sugar is used in cream of wheat, which is less gritty than grits and sooo good on a cold morning! I’m so glad y’all tried Waffle House! I love their grilled chicken and, having cheese in my hash browns as well as their breakfast!
Sweet or savory is fine. Most people I know like them savory but it's your personal preference. Grew up here in rural east Texas and have been eating grits all my life. I'm 61 now. I prefer mine savory with bacon crumbles, cheese, and, at times, a small dash of tobasco sauce. Very tasty !!!
i got full jus watchin ya'all
Thanks for watching!
Glad you went and enjoyed it. I order sausage gravy on my hash brown / egg and sausage bowls. They will 'custom' make orders for you. If you request sausage gravy on that 'bowl'. They will add it - a small extra price. Take care
That's a great tip! Thanks for sharing your customization advice.
I;m from the North and I DO NOT put sugar in my grits. I do make Red-Eye Gravy in when I have a ham steak.
My cousin puts grape jam in his grits. I’ve always eaten grits with butter and salt.
That Texas Melt is a take on a traditional "Patty Melt". Usually served on toasted rye bread with grilled onions and swiss cheese.
Oh we didn’t know! This means we have another new thing to try!🤗
the all star special is the way to go. get the eggs over easy. hash browns covered chunked and smothered. with a plain waffle and bacon. the dish you cant go wrong with.
My favorite is the porkchops. Usually not on the menu anymore, but if you ask for they will usually make for you.
i always add gravy to my bowl or add some of that syrup to my sausage. Waffle house undefeated after a night of drinking or if you wanna keep the night going with someone.
I always put black pepper on my grits, and yes they looked kind of watery.
Grits take on the flavor of whatever you put with them. I make a sausage, garlic and cheese grits casserole and it is really good. Many people mix scrambled eggs and cheese with their grits.
You can put anything is Grit. Salt, pepper, egg and hot sauce with chunks of beacon...YUMMMM
