The guy at 3:51 has a great spot for studying. Being away from crowds but still have city surroundings bustling around. Such cool place. Great video, actionkid.
Please do more abandoned places. I love these types of videos, and there's a lot of little abandoned buildings and places that's fairly easy to slip into. Check out the Domino sugar factory or the city hall station... Good video, dude and stay safe.
You're just like me because every weekend when I'm off from work I travel all over NYC myself too. Every weekend is like an adventure for me when I'm not working
Went there yesterday, you can enter on each side of the bridge Action climbed up on , as well as directly from the farm , which has tracks that lead up there. You can also cross the bridge where he felt unsafe, we went one at a time for safety, all you have to do is walk on the yellow foot path made for you to walk on. If you continue after the bridge, after a bit of a walk you end up at a place where cargo trains are parked right next to the Greenpoint Ave Bridge. You can exit to the street right from there. Thank you for the adventure ActionKid! PS. Pause at 3:12 and compare and contrast the view from 2019 to present when you are there! Couple of new buildings
I hear part of it was demolished for GSM. Not exactly sure how this could have been reused for something but it probably doesn't matter now if thats the case
That's a GREAT VIDEO, Actionkid.. I must admit, it's a new reveal for me...never been there or even heard of the Montauk cutoff.. Yes, it would make a fantastic Highline type park but that would cost tons of money...However, i'm sure it will be put to good use as the community gets together for funding via government, public and private parties. Thanks for your insight and courage walking through an abandoned rail line solo...Keep up the GREAT work..
Coming to New York soon. Definitely would pay this place a visit. Been exploring abandoned rail systems in my hometown, but I can't believe things like this exist even in the busy city of New York.
Wow! Nice tour. Better you than me. It looks like a place where you might find dead bodies and it doesn't look very safe. I'm surprised there weren't any tents for the homeless up there. I only checked out this video to find out where these abandoned tracks were as the city keeps talking about turning these tracks into pedestrian and bicycle paths. I sure want more traffic-free bike paths but it's not going to happen any time soon. Thanks, AK. You're doing a fine service. I'm late to this video but it's still useful to me
I love lost places, especially in a big city. In Germany, there are also spectacular lost places in the countryside. For example, old psychiatric institutions. There are UA-cam videos.
6:50 That's a Track Bumper. By my last visit 10 years ago there were several abandoned Flatbed and Box Railcars at this Point. I've heard, that Freight Train Ops ended in late 80s/early 90s, because the Cabin M Bridge over the Newtown Creek was no longer safe for Trains.
My band filmed a video under the LIE right there. It was awesome playing drums under the overpass. The natural echo sounded so good. They should make that area like the Highline for sure. It's long overdue!
Oddly enough, the signals on the Montauk Cutoff were still lit until recently. It was a weird sight with the line being so overgrown. An LIRR engineer told me it was easier to just let it be than to completely rewire the interlocking.
Hi Actionkid, I loved this video. I think I have told you before that I have a Facebook page on the architectural history of my town and I go on these types of expeditions with my camera all the time. It almost makes me feel like I discovered it all on my own, which is the way this video made me feel about you.
Great Video... There's a level crossing you could use to access that Bridge you didn't want to cross, with the fence. Except from the other direction. You can access it between Review ave. & Railroad ave., in the shadow of the John Jay Byrne Br., which carries Greenpoint ave. But be advised ...south of the level crossing I mentioned, the Line is live. There's an actual Freight Yard down by that mini MTA Yard at the Fresh Pond M.
Hope I don’t sound dumb but I remember us going up a hill by a highway at some point, at the top there were railroad tracks and we followed them across some bridge then we walked a lil while longer and ran into the train . But I don’t see anything like I remember in the area you mentioned but the area around it is familiar

used to be a hanging out spot back in 2015 for me when I was in high school. i have crossed the track across the water and climbed the abandoned bridge like structure that is nearby.
I’ve been to the cutoff there many times since I grew up a few blocks away on 48th ave. If you walk across that bridge it takes you to an active railway line with a huge rusting iron bridge in pretty poor shape
The Montauk cutoff wasn't decommissioned until 2015. The track is still good condition. This line probably not officially abandoned yet. 4:00 the old Pennsylvania Position Light signals are obviously disused and not maintained, but the active triangular are relatively modern and look well-maintained. Makes you wonder why. 6:54 That's a Bumper used to stop cars from going past that point.
Why was it decommissioned? I can understand the double track portion to make way for the LIRR Yard Extension, but what about the single track portion that's just left there to rot, you can see it from Google Earth
This dude you could’ve made it. I went there 2 days later( yesterday) beyond the fence and saw some more tracks and some carts like they are so big Holy moly

I have a question. Is this the same abandoned subway?
You can see on Google Maps an abandoned track route. The tracks stopped at a Recycle court (Atlantic Recycling).
The abandoned tracks starts next to 100th St/ 133 Ave and going north.
The track passes :
- Rockaway Blvd
- Liberty Ave
- 103rd Ave
- 101st Ave
- 97st Ave
The track is still next to: 100th St
On Atlantic Ave/ 100th St, a bridge goes over the street. It looks really bad and fully overgrown.
After Atlantic Ave the track is going north to 91st Ave, Jamaica Ave/ 98th St next to CTown Supermarkets.
On Park Ln S/ 98th St, there is an other abdauned bridge.
Is it the same, as in the video?

No and those tracks are semi abandoned, mostly used for freight and transfer to the LIRR main line. There use to be stored bogies there but were moved for the planned East Side Access. Also used hypodermic needle can be found in and around that spot, can be sketchy depending upon when you go.
