A narrated walk through the historic neighborhood of Forest Hills Stadium and Forest Hills Gardens, Queens. Forest Hills Stadium used to be the original home for the US Open Tennis Matches, but it is now an outdoor music venue.
From Wikipedia:
"The Forest Hills Stadium has been used as a concert venue featuring artists like Frank Sinatra, The Supremes, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Judy Garland, Jimi Hendrix, The Who, Donna Summer, Brand New, and Chance the Rapper, and was the location for the Forest Hills Music Festival.
Following the 1978 departure of the Open the stadium fell into disrepair, by 2011 it was called a "crumbling ruin" and was denied landmark status by the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission. The West Side Tennis Club received an offer in 2010 to raze the stadium and replace it with condominiums.
However, in mid-2013, the stadium re-opened as an outdoor concert venue with Mumford & Sons performing the inaugural concert. Since then the Forest Hills Stadium has held a regular summer concert series featuring the likes of Santana, Zac Brown Band, D'Angelo, Van Morrison, Arctic Monkeys, and others. It is also the summer home of The New York Pops.
The stadium also has a history of use as a filming location. The Alfred Hitchcock film Strangers on a Train (1951) was filmed in part during the 1950 Davis Cup finals at the West Side Tennis Club on August 25-27, 1950. Several scenes in Wes Anderson's The Royal Tenenbaums were filmed in and around the stadium including the "Windswept Fields" meltdown of Richie Tenenbaum.
South of the Long Island Rail Road, the Forest Hills Gardens area is a private community that features some of the most expensive residential properties in Queens County. It was subject to restrictive covenants until the 1970s, which contained no explicit economic, social or racial restrictions even if "working-class people" were said to be excluded by Eric P. Nash in a 2002 New York Times article, in his review of A Modern Arcadia. Forest Hills Gardens was named "Best Community" in 2007 by Cottage Living Magazine. The adjacent Van Court community also contains a number of detached single-family homes. There are also attached townhouses near the Westside Tennis Center and detached frame houses near Metropolitan Avenue."

4k 60 Walking NYC ( Narrated ) : Forest Hills Stadium & Forest Gardens , Queens ( August 12,2019 ) 17:10 Dartmouth Street & Herrick Avenue New York NY 🇺🇸 Inters 🎥🚶
Wow, these scenes sure aren’t what a West Coast guy like me thinks of as New York City. Thanks for the eye-opening consciousness expansion!
@El diablo da Costa yes. forest hills is part of nyc
NYC is big! Many communities like this,Especially in queens.
probably THE most expensive neighborhood in queens
@@dragonboy718 Jamaica Estates is just as if not more expensive.
@@dragonboy718 not even close. Try Whitestone.
That is the most amazing suburb I have seen in NYC. I would have sworn you were in England, if it was'nt for the sunshine. Where I live, one of our main roads is Goodwood Road.
hahahah if it wasn’t for the sunshine love that
I never had any interest in visiting New York, until your videos. I hope the tourist board know what a good job you're doing.
Thank you 😊
The problem is that most folks think NYC is only midtown Manhattan. AK proves otherwise!!!
My favorite neighborhood in Queens. Love this 👍👍👍👍😎
I was born to Forest Hills Gardens - 73 years ago. My grandparents home is owned by my Aunt. Thank you So much for this. I moved all around and haven't been back in 50 years.
Man, you never stop. Yo should reach 100k by the end of the year, well deserved.
Thanks!
I’m from México and i really love your videos, because i’m learning about New York and learning English as well.
The buildings in Forest Hills are so beautiful and streets nice with lots of trees! Peaceful area. Lovely walk!
'Some of these homes look like castles'.. You'll have to call that area Little England..
Iain Sanders you missed the chance to say ‘Little Britain’. ;)
@@PjotrStroganov We're not all like those two! :)
The names of the main streets are in alphabetical order and names of places in England.
From Italy,
What a beautiful place, what a house! Hiw green and so paceful... Adorable town... Thanks Actionkid! 🏘️🍀
Enjoying your walking tours. As an ex-New Yorker living now in Dallas, I really miss NYC . I lived several years in Forest Hills, off of Yellowstone Blvd. I worked in Manhattan at that time. Was a long time ago, but thanks for bringing back some of my best memories.
You made the wrong choice man.
The most English looking place you've shown so far, even got our sparrows.
I just want to say. my sleeping habits are not too good. But your walks have helped me relax and eat my dinner and go to sleep. Thank You.
I’m happy my videos are helping you sleep 😴
Forest Hills Park and surrounding areas could be the more upper class areas of England. I wonder what occupations the residents work in to afford those properties. It could also be Beverley Hills or Hollywood. Great video as ever, much appreciated.
Yes, the Tudor style homes do look like England. I can imagine the properties are super expensive!
@Mark Aim must be a lot of asians then
@@alisalexter4072 yeah 24.2% are asians in forest hill.....
Jews
Hey, ActionKid...Forest Hills is just magical! Such a tranquil place with beautiful homes. I especially love the Tudor style and all that stonework. Another informative video...thanks for posting!
Saw the Rolling Stones at the Stadium - back in the stone age. Thanks for the video. Cheers.
You walked right past the house I lived in up to 24 years old. Miss that neighborhood to this very day. Thank you.
Action wsup, i used to work in forest hills at the Sam Ash Music store. It's my favorite neighborhood in Queens and did live on 67th and yellowstone by yellowstone park. It was beautiful! I still have friends that live in that neighborhood. We used to play basketball in Austin Park and would also play hoops at Russell Sage Schoolyard as well. I remember taking my daughter's mom for a walk through Forest Hills Gardens all the way to Northern Blvd. We went to a very cool ice cream shop there and a cool pizza shop as well. I also have a good friend who owns a sports bar named "Cobblestones" on Queens Blvd. If you're ever in that area go check it out. Great food and a good vibe. Tell him Lamont recommended it. You might even get a meal for free! Keep up the wonderful work bro. Peace.
Thanks for sharing all your memories 😃
@@ActionKid no problem bro
Maybe you’re thinking of Eddie’s Sweetshop?
The not so clean areas (dirty) unfortunately are in Bronx-Some parts of Brooklyn and Manhattan. Living in Queens, it is WAY nicer than other places in NYC. :) Love my borough, great place for tourists too
4:48 I’m so awkward that I would’ve immediately turned around and went back up in a minute and a half because that’s the same woman you gave directions to that was super confused and distracted.
Lived there 10 years until 1986 and loved it. Greenway terrace from station square along stylistically coherent row houses to the leslie house was my view. Very leafy
A very enjoyable tour of Forest Hills, it looked like many affluent suburbs here in the Uk.
When you were walking up Dartmouth st. You passed my motherin law walking my dog.
Good morning actionkid !! ... I loved this area, the Forest Hill station is beautiful 👍and the neighborhood is very nice, ideal for walking through its streets, excellent video !! 💝💝👏
Forest Hills is so beautiful 😍
I left FHs in 1966. The change is just unbelievable.
AK: the green tarp on the metal fence around the tennis club and stadium is for a bit of privacy; tennis balls cannot fit through the size holes in that metal page fencing :)
That makes sense. Thanks for sharing!
Not a cloud in the sky and a perfect day for a walk . Forest Hills is very unique . 🤗
It was a great day!
Forest Hills is beautiful. It looks very much like River Forest. Illinois, where I lived for a short time. It bounds Chicago, but unlike Forest Hills which is a part of NYC, River Forest is not part of Chicago.
I was stationed at Great Lakes Training Center in North Chicago in the late '80's. Lived in Lake Forest. River Forest is a beautiful area. Cheers.
Nice to 👀 all the 🚲 ! It seems old school 🏦 Of America next to AT&T ! Very nice of you to give directions. Beautiful neighborhood.
Myles Standish was an English military officer hired by the Pilgrims as military adviser for Plymouth Colony. Probably him
Hibiscus was the type of flower. PLEASE do another one of that area in the winter time !!
I’ll try to 😃
thank you for the tour, forest hill is beautiful....bless you
Those pretty flowers are called Hibiscus. They are beautiful. I have one at the side of my house! Really enjoyed this video today! Thanks....
Glad you enjoyed the video and thanks for the flower information!
@@ActionKid Your welcome!
No Kid,
They also put the Tarps around Tennis courts for;
(1) Privacy of the Players
(2) No visual distractions when you are serving or receiving a tennis ball. The darker green tarps are a natural look that doesn’t stand out, but are dark enough for you to spot the ball when playing.
Thanks for the explanation. That makes sense now.
please revisit this neighborhood when the leaves are changing colors, what a beautiful place
growing up i had a friend who lived here, i was always so jealous of them haha. such a beautiful part of queens.
Awesome! Thank you!!!
Thanks👍 one of the beauties of Queens
Thank you for uploading this video. I used to live in this neighborhood, when I studied in NYC. This reminds me of my college life there...
What a beautiful neighborhood! And Portofino looks like a stylish restaurant. Thank you ~
Have been to NYC many time and never knew NYC could be so quiet!
Yes! NYC is a big place! Most people visit Manhattan when coming to New York! But Queens and Staten island which is the other boroughs got beautiful neighborhoods !
Huge fan of your work, the attention to detail is much appreciated. Excellent work, thank you Actionkid.
Best dodging sequence I’ve ever seen.
Actionkid you really are formless, shapeless like water.
You just passed (and panned up) my BFF's home on Summer Street!
Forest Hills is so majestic. Never knew where Forest Hills Stadium was. Now I know.
WoW...so beautifull...thanks for the walk with you...Greet from The Netherlands.
AK - The screening on the chain link fencing around the tennis courts isn't to keep tennis balls from going through the fence. It's main purpose is to cut down the wind blowing across the courts so that the flight of the tennis balls won't be affected too much. Plus it also serves as a privacy screen so that there are less distractions to the players (like guys walking around with cameras). Before I forget -- Oh my god, Action Kid got lost! :)
Thank you for the explanation 😊 Yes, I do get lost sometimes, haha
Damn! Those skills at 13:54! I think I would've just had to turn around if it were me. Good job!
Another really beautiful area though! Unlike Cobble Hill, I didn't know this neighborhood existed. So nice. Probably not a much cheaper area either!
Forest Hills, just a beautiful area, thanks for posting video "Action Kid"...
OMG I loved the video. What a spectacular neighborhood❤️❤️❤️.
Thank you.
Another excellent video
Another Fabulous walk. So much appreciated.
Nice video thanks.
How was the camera mounted, and was it handheld?
I used it on a gimbal and held it at chest level
THANKS! Love this place.
HAPPY SATURDAY there and thanks again this is great stuff you always put up
Walk down 71st Avenue to metropolitan avenue and make a left. Walk about a quarter mile and you’ll see eddies ice cream shop on the left. It’s the best ice cream in the country.
Have realised what the strange noise maybe! It could be your heart beat! 💕
Do you ever see any celebrities while doing your walks? That would be so exciting!!
I’ve passed by many celebrities but I’m not familiar with most. They keep a low profile in the city.
@@ActionKid probably the think omg I just walked past Action Kid!!!
OMG! You sure took the longest way around to get to the train station. You were practically there and you headed back into the gardens. You were SO lost!!
Can you please make a video on how you record and how you hold it
ua-cam.com/video/77t0LKAg13I/v-deo.html
love your voice man
Hi AKid! Autumn came and I have more time for your videos. Thank you!
Awesome! Thank you! I requested this one a while back and you did it!!! You even turned the camera right on my friend's house :D
Cool 😎 It was fun to visit this neighborhood
25:26 nice
Really very interesting, the houses in Queens are very similar to the building style with suburban houses from Holland and Belgium, when you shortly before the end under dierser bridge and the first larger house comes it looks almost like in Rotterdamm!
aftee watching your nyc videos i fell in love with nyc.you showed natural sides of the city aswell i tought nyc is just full of skyscrapers and nothing.but it s not.it has beautiful streets and nature. keep doing the good work thanks.greeting from Turkey
Yup, NYC has a lot more than skyscrapers!
i think you should get promotion from nyc tourism department.👍
The skyscrapers NYC is known for are on the island of Manhattan. Forest Hills is in Queens. Still part of NYC but is a different island
A video of great utility and quality. congratulations
Damn I missed this place. Was here for 3 years. Lived at Harrow St
A great walk through a beautiful quiet area 👍👍👍
thank you
Now this was a very interesting video! Most enjoyable! Can I see more videos like this one? Thanks Actionkid! 🤗
There are some gorgeous homes 🏡 on this route. You are correct. They are probably only affordable for that 1% of the population. Shame to see windows broken on that one home. You can’t take it with you by I don’t like seeing destructive behavior either. More exercise for you! 👟🗽👍
Hello. Kenneth how are you doing today that wealthy high-end areas very nice and quiet and peaceful I enjoyed That's my kind of atmosphere
Cant go wrong with actionkid giving you direction ! 👍
Beautiful scenery
Wow! How very different from Manhattan! And looks so very peaceful and quiet. So lush w/ plants and trees. So very nice. More vids like this pls. tho Manhattan's neighborhoods are also nice. Places like this are unique. Are there more neighborhoods like this in NYC? Anyway, thanks for exploring!👌😊
Yep there are more neighborhoods like this in New York too!
Love ur videos ❤
Awesome work keep up the great work
Lovely Area,Your Videos are amazing ❤️
Great video, however I suggest you tape your audio separately with whatever comments you want to member and then add the narration at a later time, that will take this to another level, anyway thanks a lot for posting this.

Bravoooooo Kid. NYC eeeee wonderful.

Excellent video, it was beautiful, calming, and your a funny guy lol. I hope you do revisit in the winter, I would love to see it. Keep up the absolutely awesome work!!!!!! I always look forward to see where you have went. :)
gorgeous area
thank you and stay safe always
I keep getting recommendation that forrest hills and rego park is the best to live with a family .. what are your thoughts? You've walked everywhere ! What scenery/borough have you seen to be the most family friendly orientation environment living?
Yes, Forest Hills and Rego Park are great places to live as is the rest of the city! Every neighborhood has their own strengths and weaknesses.
Aside from the larger apartment buildings Forest Hills Gardens does look like very much like an upscale European village.
Standish Road .... probably for
Myles Standish was an English military officer hired by the Pilgrims as military adviser for Plymouth Colony. He accompanied them on the Mayflower journey and played a leading role in the administration and defense of Plymouth Colony from its inception. Wikipedia
Can you come to Glendale and walk some of Myrtle Avenue? I know the neighborhood pretty well.
I could try it one day
ActionKid awesome
