We moved here to Wyoming 43 years ago and we have lived in Green River, Lander, Cheyenne and Guernsey. We had lived in other states (Georgia and Texas) before coming here. We moved here because of the people! Unlike anywhere else we have been, when we go somewhere out of state, as we are returning, as soon as we cross that Wyoming State line, we're home! We don't have to be near our home or even near our neighborhood here in Cheyenne; we feel at home as soon as we're in Wyoming! We have family and friends all over the state and wherever we go in Wyoming, we know we are never far from a friendly face or a helping hand, if needed. When we moved to Wyoming, our oldest daughter was 7 years old and our youngest was 3. 43 years later and both have married good, hard working, faithful Wyoming men and we now have four Wyoming grandchildren. We never knew what home could mean until we moved to Wyoming. We also pray that those who are contemplating moving here from the many "woke" "socialist paradises" they presently live in examine the reasons why their home states are so far gone. Did they help vote in the politicians who ruined their state, and now they want to move because life there has become unbearable? Will they continue to vote for the same politicians and party views that ruined their previous home? Laugh though you may, it has happened before. Consider Oregon and Washington; great states to live in until the radical policies of Calipornia (no, I didn't misspell it) came along with the refugees from places like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Etc. We do not want that same fate for our beloved state. God bless Wyoming and God bless the USA!

My grandparents homesteaded in Wyoming in the early 1900's, my first memory of the ranch was when I was 4. My Grampa lived in a bunkhouse across the creek where they raised 5 sons, my grandma in a small house, with a fenced yard on the other side, where they raised 3 daughters.. Grandpa raised horses, and ran cattle on the open range. He had 2 big Belgiain's to to run equipment to cut and stack hay. They hauled water and cut ice from the Ham's Fork, cooked on a huge cast iron stove, with a water reservoir in back, had an ice box and a long wooden bench table. My grandmother was a seamstress by trade, a wonderful cook and godly woman, she was always busy and when she sat down she sewed or crocheted, and Gramps would smoke his pipe, Prince Albert tobacco reminds me of him. They had survived 2 world wars, the Spanish flu and the great depression, huge blizzards and droughts. Beautiful, generous people who loved to laugh but were hard as nails. The out house was out back. I was in my teen"s when the REA brought electricity to many farms and ranches, then telephone lines and electric pumps. Sure the rich folks had that but Gramps still hitched up the buckboard, he thought autos went too fast. He had his Victrola in the bunkhouse and didn't see the need.Grandma thought it was sinful, Grampa laughed. So having been born, educated and worked on the High Lonesome for 24 years I left, traveled and lived abroad for many years and settled in another state. I laughed when you mentioned High Adventure in Wyoming, my Grampa is still laughing! SURVIVAL is high adventure in Wyoming! Gramps was killed at 72 shipping cattle to Omaha, the ranch was sold, Grandma lived to be 92 and all of her children to their 70's and beyond. I loved listening to the train whistles at night as they passed the ranch. We had rodeos, fairs, carnivals, barn dances, weddings, church socials, picnics, fished and everyday was an adventure. You never complained or said you were bored else you'd be doing chores right quick and in a hurry! It's the freedom from all the things you don't need that newbies don't understand, they... want to bring all their rules n baggage with them.😅🤣😂 they're fun to watch!

I have been watching your videos lately as I am looking to relocate from New Jersey into a place that is much more friendly for my lifestyle. I am a former United States Marine and retired sheriffs detective and I have always preferred the south in the Midwest to the East Coast. Niceties of New York City not withstanding, I am definitely looking to get out someplace with more space and less expense. I have a military and law-enforcement pension so income is not really an issue but I also own a private investigations and security agency which I can do anywhere. Trying to decide between Wyoming and West Virginia, Someplace that is Second amendment friendly, at least somewhat conservative and not nearly as expensive and government ridden as New Jersey. The way things are today, the amenities that once made big city life a little more interesting have all been taken away or put on hold in one way or another. People are now realizing that. I think that makes places like Wyoming more intriguing. A new life, a new way of seeing things. But rural communities have a different sensibility. In other words, if you leave don't bring those toxic politics with you.

You haven't been here long enough. This is an extremely dry and warm winter this year. I live in the Bighorn basin (No, not a 9er) and 20 to 30 below zero is more normal than this year is turning out to be.
My complete ice fishing gear setup was $200 bucks. Somebody talked you into BS gear, toughen up dude if your staying in Wyoming. If you think its expensive your making really poor decisions based on other transplants.
If you live in Wyoming for social activity your living in the wrong state. Your right we are very independent.

Spot on! A "3" from Sheridan - Part of WY's Coal & Energy Country!
We've had plenty of snow this year, as a matter of fact our first snow was last September 15th and the regular snow season where it started sticking and staying was around the middle of November and it basically hasn't stopped and it's still going the last few weeks it's been snowing off and on every day, or every other day and our last snow is usually around Memorial Day (May 30). And we had a bunch of -20°F to -30+°F in January and February which is the norm. YES, we had a few days where it did get up into the 60's°F, but that didn't last too long, maybe a day or two and then it was back down below freezing again. And yes there is social things to do here in town and Sheridan, granted it's a little bigger than Cody but all you have to do is look. One has to be here more than a year to critique a community or a state and to get to know the place. I've been here 30 plus years now and I think this gentleman here in the "Wyoming Project" should do his critique in another 9 years and his findings will be a lot different at the 10-year Mark than they are at the 1 year mark.
AND why does he need a snow machine to go into the forest to go camping? Did he ever hear of hiking? How much does a pair of boots cost? You can drive to a campground & Park or a trailhead and park and go hiking, even during the winter you can go hiking on the trail. You wear a backpack with all your gear and your tent, and then go hiking in there. If your afraid of bears, carry a rifle and then go hiking! What's the worst that can happen, grizzly bears? Mountain Lions, wolverines or what?
Yes, there are social activities to do in Cody and Sheridan and in any place except maybe a two or three person town but then you just go to the closest town that's got a population of some sort, & then you'll find something to do, like maybe a gun collectors club or fishing club or snowmobile club or any type of organization. If you're a veteran, the VFW or well they're drinking club but there's something to do in every little town and Big Town Cody's big enough for you to find something that might interest you. Join the Boy Scouts and become a scout leader and teach the kids about The Great outdoors. They're hundreds of things you can do instead of just hanging out with your wife in the house and play tiddlywinks. You got to wake up and see the light.
Yes Wyoming is the number one state for suicides per capita.
So do this again in another 9 years and compare the two evaluations of the state of Wyoming and see how different they are! Wyoming Project, thanks for sharing and the person that replied thank you for allowing me to also reply to you!

@@williamharasym2607 ... gotta jump in here. Sorry, but 10 years? What that means is, if you're just starting out with a spouse ... then don't move, I guess? If it takes 10 years to decide if a place is 'right for me & my situation' then I either hold off on having kids, or roll a big crap-shoot on possibly picking a place that'll be the *wrong* place for them, leaving them with issues stemming from the environment being _not_ suited to them. Wyoming seems like it should be generally good for the kids, but ... Example: it took my sis a number of years to find a circle of friends that 'worked' for her; we lived in a moderately high-density suburb, with a pool of literally hundreds and hundreds of kids to pick from. If she'd lived someplace where the entire middle-school (5th to 8th grade) was at most a couple hundred kids, & her circle of close friends had to be chosen from just 50-60 other girls (her age) - I have a feeling she would've ended-up being border-line suicidal!
So, if where I'm already at seems like it *might* be workable for the kids, guess I should just 'settle-in'. Hmm ...

@@ladycactus110 I was born and raised, educated and worked overseas. Dad was into this clandestine stuff with dear old mom: he from Washington, she an Illinois farm girl. After I returned from Europe in my 20's I planned to go back overseas with the same people or contract work with a small airline company called "Air America". Like a fool, I fell in love with a Virginia woman. She wanted me close and safe. Or, at least a less dangerous job. So I took a job as a firefighter-paramedic in the DC area, fought the criminally corrupt Virginia courts over home schooling and spent 30 years educating my nine children. Great grampa left Maine with his brothers after the Civil War, cutting down all the trees along the was, being a town marshal in Montana and a deputy sheriff in Idaho during the Old West. Grampa was born on an Indian reservation in Idaho. Dad born in Spokane. Me in nearby where dad was fighting World Wide Communism, to include parachute jumps into Manchuria. Fast forward, wife in "the" final stage of Alzheimer's (higher level genius IQ, father a WWII combat hero and later an MIT trained rocket scientist). I'm not staying in Virginia if I don't have to. I've disowned five of my kids (makes Christmas bigger for the five grandkids I recognize: "Honor Your Father and Mother" is all I will say. Any man or woman that comes against my wife or marriage has Hell to pay). I was looking at Wyoming, maybe Lusk because there are fewer people, it is bleak and the land is cheap. Then this degreed lawyer, who's husband is a lawyer, do no excuses to be had, decides to break the United States Constitution, go against a rare Republican Party event, showing actual backbone, doing this unforgivable thing, I can't stand to be in the same state that harbors back stabbing RINOs! We have far too many in Virginia as it is: I was constantly fighting them! I'm old, beat up, tired of fighting for everyone else. If I ever took a public safety or emergency operations job it would be as chief so I could fire all the deadwood and petti tyrants. Cut law enforcement at least in half and put in real life saving services: firefightrer-paramedics! Not just simple paramedics. And I hate unions. Especially local, state and Federal Government unions. So, Wyoming is probably to liberal for me. Too windy, too cold. Churches no more than social clubs. And I would bring a daughter that would not find a man worthy enough for her and would only break hearts. We are a kind people. Actually, even loving. But, no not nice. Not nice at all. Hahaha good advice. Lucky for me I'm not the average woman. I moved back here alone as a single woman 15 years ago. My adult sons moved here after a few years and none of us ever looked back. It's a great place to live but it's completely different than almost any other state. If you enjoy shopping, don't enjoy solitude, if seeing the average person carrying a gun on their hip every day makes you uncomfortable and if you don't enjoy the outdoors this probably isn't the place for you. The winters are typically harsh and the wind will absolutely make you crazy right before it stops blowing 60 miles an hour! Even with all of that there is still no place I would rather live.

Agree! Carry my rifle on a rack on my back window of the pickup. Lots of hunting and fishing here too. My passion is backpacking to high mountain lakes. Summer or winter. Unfortunately I have just had a knee replacement and back surgery is next. Many years on the trails and skiing kind of got me. But I will be back at it!

@@wyomingadventures wow! Now that's enjoying Wyoming to the fullest! I love your attitude! I worked post surgical and acute care nursing for many years and your personality type were always my favorite. It makes all the difference in healing. But also anyone tough enough to backpack the mountains in winter is tough enough to recover quickly from pretty much anything lol but that sounds amazing! Much tougher than I'll ever be. The closest I ever get to that level of adventure is renting primitive forest service cabins as far away from the tourists as I can get. This area has the most beautiful off the beaten path places of anywhere I've been. Good luck to you... hope you're back on your feet soon :)

And turn your hat around. When you don't know which is the front or back of your hat I think that says some thing about you. It's like wearing a cowboy hat sideways. I'm sure you can find a hat that you could wear forward that would make your ears stick out just as much and give you that same "duh" look. Really it just doesn't look good. Certainly doesn't make you look like you know what you're talking about.
