At a garage sale I remember purchasing 'Fastest Thing Alive' for 50 cents and it contained all the Chaos Emerald episodes and it was fun
Nice!
Those newer Ncircle releases for the 90s cartoons look like they were made *UNDERGROUND*
(rimshot, laugh track, and/or Seinfeld theme)
Nice. lol
@@Soundout12Honestly it feels like N Circle PURPOSELY half assed the SatAM complete set.
@@supermariof0521 It certainly wasn’t by accident
hopefully someday we can get an OVA re release
Maybe one day
Would love to see more Home Media Release History videos.
How about the various Transformers cartoons/animes/movies?
Transformers is on the list!
23:40 loved this version of sonic X . While I have a soft spot for the old foxbox TV/ 4kids cast , the Japan release is a guilty pleasure especially with live and learn ost in the shadow saga , sonic drive and the bonus trailers from other discotek media goodies
I have nostalgia for the 4Kids version, I’ll always ditch it for the original Japanese version!
Matter of fact, I have the SDBD of it, but will never own the English one
I've got the SHOUT versions of AoSTH (including the very rare volume 3) and Sonic SATAM. I am very blessed to have them. :)
You have the best version of the show for sure!
16:25 i got the vol 1 of underground at my Walmart last year or 2021 i think
Hi, I actually own the 2004 Sonic OVA DVD.
It includes the Japanese version and proper English subs (and Spanish subs of all things). So to say it's dub only isn't accurate.
Awesome video regardless! Just wanted to make a correction.
Oh dang! I must have totally forgotten it had the Japanese dub on it! I have that version of the DVD too but it's been misplaced. I couldn't find a source online mentioned the Japanese language track, so thank you!
Yeah I have that one too.
The Sonic DVD releases I have are: Sonic's Christmas Blast, the volumes Best Of and Sonic The Hero, all four volumes of Sonic Boom, and the two movies.
29:51 steelbook awesome! Very cool art style
Great video! For whatever reason I missed Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog and Sonic X on TV, but I remember watching Sonic SatAM and Underground when I was growing up in the '90s, and I watched a few episodes of Sonic Boom when that was airing. I also missed the OVAs as well. I actually never knew just how many home video releases each of these shows have had over the years, so that's really cool.
I'm glad my video was so informative!
@@Soundout12 Your videos are always informative. Like I just rewatched your Digimon DVD and Blu-ray history video and I had completely forgotten about that singular 13 episode DVD release that Digimon Adventure had in 2000. And before I knew about it, I thought that the complete season set and its three volume sets were the first time Digimon had been released on DVD in North America.
@@tgif1345 That definitely was a lesser know release that I never knew about till after the other DVDs released
@@Soundout12 I mean, I never saw it in stores when it came out, and unlike the Disney DVDs, being how hard Disney advertised their movies on DVD, I never saw any commercials for Digimon on DVD in 2000. But like, the same thing happened with all of the Sonic home video releases, because I don't recall seeing ads for them on TV at any point.
Queen Aleena Chronicles and Sonic to the Rescue were DIC releases. I own both of them on DVD.
Good to know! Thanks
6:24 funny enough i acquired that from Crunchyroll store last month along with the Digimon Adventure 1 Japanese Blu Ray!
Nice!
I hope that the rumour of OVA’s japanese dub being on laserdisc is real, so then we’d have a potential good source to tap into for a restoration attempt. Also, SX’s english dub was the first Discotek release I decided to import 3 years back. I still need to get the japanese set though. Good stuff!
I think the OVA recently streamed somewhere in Japan and there's a better resolution version now out there
But the audio there is still compressed. To have it relatively uncompressed would be magnificent
An interesting recommendation for this series is a history of Power Rangers home video releases. It’s rather interesting, especially with MMPR since different regions got different episodes selections and even how they were presented (green with evil was released as 2 “feature length” edits and most places outside US got a minimum of 2 episodes per tape).Kinda jealous of the episode selection other regions got that we didn’t.
I definitely want to tackle PR's video history! I might expand that one out to other regions since its better documented and it would make the video more interesting
@@Soundout12 I’ll keep an eye out for my notifications 😁
Omg i have a huge HUGE history with Sonic through the years, both tv shows and video games. Favs are satam , sonic x and sonic boom tv series
Honorable mentions : adventures of Sonic the hedgehog, sonic ova localized as movie by Adv Films, and underground.
Also i have that same shirt 🎽🎽😊
It's a great shirt!
25:52 i hated the boom games but the tv show boom was awesome imo gave me lots of laughs and chuckles.
Did you know that Sonic X Season 3 aired in 2014 in Japan?
Yep
Hey, that's my post at 11:45 ! Cool seeing it here.
Yeah, it is really a shame how much worse the N Circle SatAM releases are compared to Shout Factory's.
I appreciated that info!
It really is a shame since the NCircle are so much easier to get
Great video! I hope you keep this series going!👍🏽👍🏽
I will!
@@Soundout12 It's good that you didn't swear :D
20:43 the saga sets are similar to the re releases of anime DVDs at the time from the older companies Adv Films, geneon entertainment, bandai entertainment USA and even Funimation sentai filmworks and viz Media etc
This was a great video! It's great for trying to figure out which releases are the best for adding to collections, which I'm currently trying to do, so this was a great help! Would love if it'd be possible to do a similar video for the 3 Mario DiC cartoons, the DKC cartoon, and both films ^^
I'm glad the video was helpful! I might do the Nintendo shows one day
I know you're only talking about the NA releases, but there was a UK release of Sonic Underground released by Anchor Bay in 2004. This spreads all 40 episodes over a whopping 10 (!) discs - both as a box and as standalone releases! It's long-since discontinued but I got it on release and the picture quality is superb. It's unrelated to the 2003 standalone DVD (which the UK also received) but also pre-dates the 2007 Shout Factory release by 3 years. This, along with the fact that it's PAL, suggests that the source is completely unrelated to any of the other releases!
That sounds like a much better set overall
Great video man
Thank you!
I watched the whole thing fully once!
(this video)
YESSS im loving this video so far, Sonic is always one of my favorite talking points in videos
I'm so glad you enjoyed it!
@@Soundout12 oh I always love hearing about Sonic home releases, have you considered MegaMan too? Maybe collecting Sonic Archie comics? Would love to hear you talk about them
@@anthonysmith3415 I’ll consider it!
Im thinking about getting every Sonic series complete series(the definitive version of each one) I do have the boom steel book and I plan on getting the shout factory SATAM and Underground release and the discotek Adventures and X series(mainly the Japanese for X but might get the English if I really want to complete everything) There’s also a season 1 release for Prime coming but I’m gonna wait until it’s all out possibly in a complete series release. Excellent video 👍🏻
Also unrelated but I have that exact same shirt.
I actually remember getting the AoSTH fastest thing in time dvd thinking it was a satam dvd because the cover uses a scene from satam. Also owned sonic x The chaos factor which my mom got for me at a flee market for like 5 bucks which was i think at the start of the 2010s. I also have the discotek AoSTH and both Sonic X blurays! Need to get boom and satam though. Ova, im still hoping one day discotek can get it.
Great video mate, could you do a Super Mario home media history video someday please?
I'll consider it! I'll need to brush up on my Mario knowledge a bit first
after the adventures of sonic the hedgehog segment in a reference to the show's psa's at the end of every episode * and remember kids sonic says don't do drugs
I should have done a Sonic Says joke but I got too wrapped up in the Scott Pilgrim one XD
@@Soundout12 true XD
13:04 Can you elaborate on what these mild censorship are according to your view? I'm only asking this because these rumors about censorship in VHS releases have been sorta debunked since 2017. One of very few accurate changes in the OVA that has been documented, is a few curse words present in original japanese dub being replaced with more mild-sounding language in the english dub.
The censorship was removing Sonic's middle finger to the Eggman bot, the cutting of the shot showing Sara breast feeding Eggman's fantasy babies, and Tails accidentally touching Sara's breasts
How’s the video quality of the japanese sonic x language bluray compared to the english?
Japanese version looks like a bit better!
@@Soundout12 good to know!
Did they ever release both sonic x series 1 abd 2 on blu Ray abd both ova on blu Ray plus is it sll regional lockout
Well then out of all of these(including the games)which one is your favorite(as in projects)
Because I'm indecisive, my Top 3
- Sonic OVA
- Sonic Boom (TV Series)
- Sonic 3 & Knuckles
I’ve would love if you do a home video history on godzilla
That could be tricky, but I'll consider it!
sonic underground
they made a vow their mother would be found
... yeah unfortunately the series ended before they ever actually reunited with their mom
You think after 40 episodes they would have gotten close
@@Soundout12 well technically they did once or twice but she always either got away before they could reunite or in the case of the episode that takes place on their birthday they just missed her
Ummm the Sonic X: Chaos & Shadow Sagas DVD set was not missing ep 27 it has episodes 27-38
I own it, and i verified online that it is the same with online
Same. I even checked my disc and 27 was there. Guessing his information got crossed since the Revenge of the Robot volume excluded it.
Oh shoot. I guess both my sources were off on the contents. Sorry about that. Thanks for the corrections! @anthonysmith3415 @TheLazyShell
@@Soundout12 no problem, I thought something was off because those 4kids season sets were in fact the complete way of watching the show dubbed at the time
@@anthonysmith3415 It definitely makes a lot of sense for them to be complete. I think I didn’t triple check the missing episode was because 4Kids kept leaving the Christmas episode of TMNT 2003 out of sets so it seemed plausible 😅
@@Soundout12 I think that was a season 3 episode and they never released a season 3 or back to the sewers complete season set like they did for the others, they stopped at season 2 part 2
Sonic boom sucks hate cgi and not a big fan
I really like the ova anime abd a hardcore fan of sonic x huge fan of sonic x that was peak sonic at its hest
Oh c'mon Sonic Boom wasn't bad, it honestly was well written
Ok hater
