Jonas Hellborg Group (Jonas Hellborg bass, Jaime Salazar drums, Anders Nord bass) playing Look (album: Jonas Hellborg Group), on a Swedish live TV show in 1990
@@AngeloSantelliMusic The drumbeat that Porcaro plays on Rosanna isn't the purdie shuffle, its a mix of purdie shuffle, Jon bonhams shuffle on "Fool in the rain" and bo diddley kick pattern.
The Jazz/Fusion part in the beginning is from another song? The song "Look" in the studio version starts with the metal riff directly. What's the name of the song in the beginning? anyone?
What pedal/effect is on his bass to make it sound like that? Jonas is the reason I purchased a bass after listening to Rag B/B an infinite amount of times.
For a start both bass players are using Wal basses which have a unique character of their own. Very special pickups and preamp but you can get very close to that tone by having something built or modified similar. In the very beginning an octave pedal is being used on the 5 string. Around the 1-minute mark the guy with the double neck sounds like he's using an envelope filter (auto wah). Plenty of distortion while playing on the bridge pickup as his bass only has bridge pickups with a bit of palm muting will get you close to that heavier sound. The sinth stuff over the top of that I've no idea
Lead and rhythm bass. Now that's something.
Pretty bassic.
Bass bigfoot! Cheers from a bassplayer in Sweden! We are not alone - at all!
I don't think I've ever seen a look of concentration as intense as the one on the drummer's face!
He is very afraid of two bass players.
i love the bass playing of jonas hellborg for over 35 years or so!!
me too...great musician always good for something new💪
Me to Udo! Cheers from Sweden!
still love it!!
Qui Gon Jin killing it
Wow,this stuff it really blows my mind,i remember Jaime by the way with the flower kings
I love Jonas helborg, he is a great master, i waiting somthing new
Jaime Salazar is a great drummer. His work on The Flower King's Garden of Dreams is excellent! I wonder what happened to him...
hellborg & Tony WIlliams with string quartet was another good "revenge of the rythmn section" format
yessss you're absolutely right 💪 👍 best musical stuff
lead bassist like foley with the Miles group of the late 80's. Jonas is king
Foley is such a cool guy
yea he is
Wow! New to this old man.
The brand is wal my friend. Wal basses are great instruments from England.
Your right, JONAS RULES
For shure Jonas rules...saw him several times live 😇🙏👍👍👍
rippin' damn
Woooooow man!!!!!
Great
No way.. 2:28-2:56 sounds exactly like something from Dream Theater copped straight out of this piece. Amazing!
Hellborg rules
for sure
@@Hellborg81 😄
The drumbeat is almost exactly the same as Jeff Porcaro's (Toto) triplet groove in Rosanna!
ivancser it’s called the Purdie Shuffle invented by Bernard Purdie
ivancser and that’s almost the same as the Bernard Purdie shuffle
no shit??

Love drum nerds
A doublenecked Wal?!!- the cost must've rivaled the GNP of some small country. Great post by the way!
Nice !
Congratz to his Birthday today!
from coool to HOT to BURNING
feel that HEAT.
I'd say that their hair is equally as impressive as their bass playing haha. In all seriousness though this is really cool; all bass and drum's.
either way I WANT IT!!!!
el baterista bien divertido
Bad Habit's band drummer! :))
cool when the chugging started

Most groovy thing ever.
Davide Torre de
u cant go wrong with a double necked bass
The God of Hentai - Guy Fieri ,
Quite Right, just ask Golden Earring Bass player Rinus Gerritsen.
One fretted, one fretless that's handy!

Any Boss multieffect bass pedal will do .
I had no idea Paul Stanley played drums
We bassists do not need guitarists :)
UAU!
TWO bass players???????
:-o
What's the effect at 2:33...
I think the top Wal has Midi. The distorted part sounds an octave higher and there is a string sound added.
Pop stars!
Just saw a 87 video with a almost bald Jonas. Fast player fast hair?
Is the other dude playing a mkII or a mkIII ?
Witch TV-program? Bolibompa?
He was cleanshaven a year earlier, i guess he used a lot of rogaine lol.
We are like # 666 ;)
Drummer: Rosanna
Don't think it's a wig... he used to havy pretty long hair?
Yes. Back in the Shawn Lane/Jeff Sipe days.
Cliff Burton reincarnated as a chilled out Swedish bass ripper!
Hellborg wearing a wig and playing metalriffs on a distorted bass lol. I wonder why he did that?
Das 2 Bass 1 Drum Trio
Yep...solche Sachen haben wir in den 80er- 90ern auch gemacht...damals gab es nen richtigen Bass-Boom...💪👍👍
how can i achive that distorssion on my bass? what kind of effects do i need?
+yogsothoth2099 Jonas Fingers - by Hellborg Effects. Add to that a fuzz box of your choice (:
I think that fuzz pedals on bass sound nothing like this tone
