  • The Godox SA-17 is an adapter for Bowens LED to connect to the SA-P Projection Snoot Adapter originally designed for the Godox S30. This breaks the 30w limitation of the Godox S30 and makes the SA-P projection snoot compatible with all of Godox's great new LED's such as the VL150, VL200, VL300, FV150, FV200, SL150II, SL200II, UL150.

    Hey guys, abandoning the follow up video on trying this modifier with flash. I can't give more information on why at the moment, but since all my subs are intelligent, I'm sure you can connect the dots.

      At the time of writing this I was told a flash-specific adapter was in development that would be more efficient, and fit all flashes. Given it's been 10 months, I'm unsure if we'll ever see it. The SA-17 adapter "fits" all current strobe models like 400 pro and 200 pro, but not 1200 pro / 600 pro, however it's horribly inefficient and not fully featured since the flash tube distance is not the same as a cob light source. So it works, just not well.

      This seems like such a trivial fix -- wouldn't a conical bowens mount extension tube be all that's needed for compatibility with the AD600 -- or even just an elongated version of the existing design?

    Mine arrived this morning. I've confirmed it works in the S2 bracket with the AD200 with the H200R and the AD300Pro. The Ad300Pro works really well as the modeling light is nice and bright and allows easy focusing. I'm pretty sure it will work OK with the A1 and the AD400Pro in the S2 bracket. If the Ad400pro won't fit than putting the Profoto adapter on it and using a Profoto to Bowens adapter on the S-17 will work (it's how I use the Aputure 2X Fresnel). I think unscrewing the ring inside at the rear would probably let more strobes use it.
    Wgist the S30 may not be useful for the sort of photography you do I think it is very useful for product photographers who have good control of the ambient and need very fine control of the light placement.

    I've had a gobo before (not this specific model) and the problem was the beam angle was too narrow for practical use (or depending how you look at it, my studio space was far too small to make it useful). Found the things like the Aputure fresnel much more useful in practise

    I just received mine today. What I didn't find anywhere is the rubber O ring on the projector to SA 17 mount. IS it there to reduce play or vibrations? IT doesn't fit under the lock tab. The brightness is as expected: weak even on my FV200. With the flash function there will be a 2 stop increase in theory. The iris works well but does have little bumps in the circle projected. Perhaps I'll get the 150 lens for a better circle output. It doesn't get very hot, which is good.

      I don’t think there’s a yes or no answer because it largely depends on the distance you use it and how dark of an environment you are in. I know even in my dark studio, when I had it 12 feet away, I put the VL300 LED on it to dial everything in and then swapped to the 400 pro.

      I will find out soon. I ordered mine, with a 85mm lens. I have both a FV150 and FV 200. Since I know there is a huge loss with non focalised light source ( why the S30 and S60 are far more efficient) at least I have the flash function with the FV series giving 4X the light or 2 stops.

  • @kojpetersson
    @kojpetersson 3 роки тому

    Yes I'm really curious about how they will work on the flash heads, specifically the AD600pro heads that I'm using.
    Also can you measure the gobos as to what diameter they are, the most common size is 86mm and Rosco and several others have much "better" patterns then the ones you showed here.
    Dedo and Rosco are the ones that I am familiar with and the also make 66mm, and I just checked and they also do a 37,5mm that I was not aware of.
    But my question is really. How big are the Godox gobos and if they are to the same sizes that Rosco does??

    • @kojpetersson
      @kojpetersson 3 роки тому

      Ive googled this and as far as I can see the Godox gobo is 66mm so the Roscos should fit so I'm answering my own question.
