You're correct where the house was. Referencing the pictures makes that clear. Off to the left is where the hunting shacks are that the new owner put up.
I looked at many photos of the house before I went there. Feel like most of them weren't quite wide enough to see the streets to be 100% sure. Glad I guessed correct.
If you save the satellite google maps image of this area, you can overlay the 1957 aerial photo from the Historical Aerials website and line up exactly where the house was as well as the barn.
I feel like ghost adventures should do an episode about Ed gein. They could investigate his property and the cemetery. The episode should be called "ghost adventures: butcher of plainfeild"
His old property doesn’t have much anymore. Furthermore, it’s private property, and the current owner seems to have zero interest in advertising it as a horror show
Thanks for posting this! This area doesn't have google streetview available, so with this video it's neat to see what this place looks like more recently. The house was basically where you were pointing but just a little more to the right towards archer. I hope you made the 10 minute drive to Plainfield Cemetery to check out the grave sight.
After the house burned down, the local community planted trees where it had stood. So I think you're right when you say that the grouping of trees directly opposite from the gate would have been the site of Gein's house.
there's archer ave, next street down is archer drive, the address given for his house is corner of 2nd and archer, that means it could be on 1 of 8 corners as 2nd ave passes through both archer ave and drive.
If you get on Google maps, you can see for yourself where the trees don't grow in a diagonal line, most likely where the driveway was. Just to the left of that, you can see almost a rectangular shape to the trees, and what looks like some old debris scattered around the area where the house would have sat.
I really wish they would have protected the house and farm back then. Preserve it and have tours to it . That home back in the day looked so isolated and terrifying considering what was going on inside. Gein had no electricity either.
