As a 12 year old kid in Portland in 92, I ran into Clyde and his family coming out of a restaurant. I asked for his autograph and he said yes but I didn’t have a pen. While his family went to the car, he waited for 5 minutes while I desperately tried to find a pen. As a kid I didn’t think much of it, but as an adult I look back and think so highly of him. He waited with a smile. He didn’t have to do that, he just really cares about people

Clyde has always been great people. I also ran into Mychal Thompson downtown under the Portlandia statute back in the mid 80s, just a very kind, happy man. This was before they broke up the team for Kiki. Good times.

I'll go one more; Daly was the perfect coach for that DTI squad because he wasn't worried about coaching X's and O's. He managed egos and let the players do what they already knew to do. What was he going to teach Stockton and Magic about playing the point? Barkley and Malone about the power forward position. Robinson and Ewing, Pippen, Drexler and Mullins? Michael? I've been on (far lesser) teams where literally everyone knew how to play and it is so easy then. DTI, then DTII and then...?

He knew chemistry was important and with multiple players on the team having an issue with Isiah he didn't need that on the team.

They are just like parrots hear and repeat over and over again. Like you said the rule changes make the game look different. But its also the players mentality also. I don't knock nobody but the truth is the truth todays players are lazy and just want the money lets be honest they just care about their brand and have not fundamentals and don't really want to play hence all the load management and complaining about playing 82 games and back to backs and then they complain about having to play 60 something games its just ridiculous. And ppl call them the best make it make sense that's like and older person at the job works overtime, always put in extra time to perfect what they do, he don't care about all the other stuff just want to go to work and do his job the best of his ability and do it the right way then a young cat come along and always taking breaks, complaining about being at work and not showing up,don't care about the job don't care about doing the job the right way so he is always cutting corners and making it look all fancy and flashy, don't really work hard but want the money and praise about how flashy and fancy they do the job and want to hear ppl always praise and say he is better than the older ppl that been doing the job. But in reality there is no substance to his work. That is the way the game is right now and its sad to watch which is why a lot of ppl don't watch anymore or respect these players or the game.

92 and 24 both have great players. I don't think there would be a mopping of either side. It also depends on what rules you are playing, the game has changed but so has the rules. Either team would have to adapt if they were playing the other teams rules. 24 would not be allowed 3 steps to the basket and 92 wouldn't be able to hand check on defense.

Comparing the 2024 team vs the Dream Team, Lebron (39), Steph (36) and KD (about to be 36) were the three most important guys on this year's team; all of them are past their primes - still really good, but not what they were. The Dream Team had 11 1st Ballet HOF's, with 9 of them being in their primes. This was Jordan at his apex. Clyde coming off his best season. Barkley won MVP the next year. Ewing led his team to 60 wins the next year. Robinson, Malone, Pippen, Mullin all in their primes. Stop the madness. The Dream Team is the greatest assemblance of talent we've ever seen on one team.

They would go long minutes without scoring. It was embarrassing to watch them go to the line and miss free throw after free throw. I heard a lot about how Jordan took it personal and shut down Kukoc, but he didn't guard Kukoc AT ALL. He guarded Drazen Petrovic, who literally walked by him every play but missed Bunny after Bunny at the rim. I suggest instead of listening to these old doggies, to go watch the games yourself. How is this even a discussion comparing the 92 Dream-Team to the 24 US-Team??
The 92 Team almost as a whole was assembled with LIVING LEGENDS. Almost each of these players was unique in the history of basketball. Each one had REDEFINED the game of basketball in their position!! Magic & Stockton the point guard position, Jordan & Drexler the SG, Bird, Pippen the SF, Barkley, Malone the PF, Ewing, Robinson the Center. Those were GIANTS.
But most important: everyone of them had BALLS, they could take over the game when the game was on the line. They had CHARACTER.
In the 24 team only Lebron, Curry and KD fulfill that level. And thanks to these three they got the gold. And it got very close...
Beyond those three players in the 24 team, the others will never belong to this elit club of giants. Just very good players for their teams and role players for the US team...
Three compared to eight giants of the 92 team.
    It is not even close!!

They averaged 117 - higher than the NBA’s current scoring average. This is without any of those guys being raised on 3-pointers. And that’s not even talking defense. If apex Jordan & Pippen wanted to stop you, they stop you. You saw Embiid struggle for 60-70% of the tournament. Let’s see how he’d handle apex Ewing, Robinson, & Malone. He’d be aboard a first class flight back to Philadelphia by halftime. I could see it if the Dream Team had a messy game of any kind, but they didn’t. They beat a 3 HOF player team by 33 & 32 points.

The quality of the game has vastly improved compared to the 90's, both on offence and defence. Media hype is saying things like 'If Apex Jordan and Pippen wanted to stop you, they stop you.' No great defensive player is stopping a great offensive player especially not against todays talent that has offense more than ever.
The 24 beats the 92 team on skills such as passing, shooting, ball handling and defense cause those guys were much slower than the 24 team. These are facts. You are underestimating how much the game has improved from a skills perspective. Embid is more skilled than any of the centers you mentioned. The only thing I would say those guys had which made them superior is intangibles like mindset, understanding the game, hard work and discipline. Dream Team would dominate the 2024 team in the post, because they had David Robinson, Ewing, and Karl Malone. And teams back then dominated
the paint with low post scoring, rebounding and shot blocking. The reason teams cannot deal with Nikola Jokic is because he plays like an old school
big, but he can also pass and hit perimeter shots. Well the 92 Dream Team did not have a Jokic. But they did have multiple guys who could do _some_ of

Definitely not enough to consistently pull defenders out to the 3pt line and away from the basket. The only consistent mismatch the '24 team has is KD, who can make shots from anywhere on the floor. But again, the '24 team struggled with Serbia, a team that doesn't have an iota of the talent Dream Team had. We have seen KD get flustered and frustrated when he goes up against physical defenders. Pippen would challenge him. Curry would also be a problem for Dream Team from the perimeter. But he needs the ball to get into a rythm. And I don't think Dream Team's perimeter defenders would allow Steph to get into a rythm. They would frustrate him.

People don’t understand, two things can be true. Has international competition gotten much better? Yes. On average. The 1992 dream team beat squads by a average margin of 45 points that’s absurd. It definitely won’t be replicated. But that all inspiring dominance, while only facing nine other NBA players internationally, is what inspired the rest of the world to get better at basketball and close the gap. That’s the natural evolution of things cause and effect. and it made international teams play a better brand of team basketball to compensate for the fact that they’ve never had the same level of talent or depth of talent. Each country on various occasions might have one NBA superstar, nowadays, or in some cases a couple All-Stars may be a starter or bench player here, there, but them beating us in 2002, 2004 and 2006+2023 made us take international competition more seriously. Will we ever beat teams by 45 game on average? No, but those international players were going against a mystique and aura players that you don’t have today. they didn’t see Larry Bird, Magic Johnson and Michael Jordan consistently on a nightly basis either on TV or highlights so there was a huge intimidation factor. It doesn’t help that people are all over social media, which makes them seem less Godlike because you know their day-to-day human life there’s no mystique. With that said modern fans who think that the 2024 would beat the 1992 team are smoking crack yes they faced better competition, that doesn’t mean they’re better than the 1992 team who beat a Croatia team with a number of NBA players multiple times in the tournament, including the gold medal game. Think about it they struggled with Serbia with Nikola Jokić and one other NBA role-player. What are they gonna do the superior size and interior play of the 92 team with Robinson, Ewing, Barkley and Malone? And they had deep shooting with Mullin and Bird. And they had great perimeter defense with Stockton even though he was injured in 1992 with hyper athletes, Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen as the Dobermans hounding people on the perimeter. And then you got Magic facilitating the offense. They’re considered the best USA team for a reason, even though the 1996 team and maybe the 2008 have arguments. think about it they beat teams so badly. Michael Jordan didn’t even need to be Michael Jordan in any single game the entire time. He basically drank, smoke cigars, played cards and played golf all day and then just rolled onto the court and didn’t need to focus or dominate. the one time he played in the Olympics suffocating defense on Toni Kukoc. They say the hardest Michael played was in practice against the other NBA legends and All-Stars where he asserted himself as the alpha dog of all the alphas … the Apex predator. This could’ve lost two games if it wasn’t for Stephen Curry going totally fucking nuclear. LeBron was the most consistent player, but at the end of the day he’s pushing 40 years old, Kevin Durant is in his mid to late 30s as is Stephen Curry. The 2024 avengers were fun to watch and I’m glad they took on the gold and we’re dominant in all of the games except the last two in the medal rounds. But they’re the fifth best USA basketball team with professionals I’ve ever seen. And I definitely think they would lose to the 1992 team, the 1996 team, the 2008 team and the 2012 team.

The game and style of play has changed since 1992, the speed of the game has changed since 1992, if the Dream Team with their 1992 skill sets were playing in the 2024 olympics, then I am not sure if they would win. That is why it is so hard to compare different eras of basketball, because it isn't an apples to apples comparison. The international basketball world is not the same as it was 32 years ago. International ball is much more competitive than it was in 1992, and other countries are sending a lot more players to the NBA than they were in 1992, so they are ready to compete at the highest level.

No one is approaching this correct. The question isn’t about talent. It’s about the increased emphasis on the 3 ball. 92 had about 7 players that couldn’t shoot the three. And especially with Fib-a rules hindering drives and emphasizing shooting. The 2024 team by rough analysis would win by about 10 points. Now if the players from 92 could practice the 3 ball a lot. Then it would be anyones game.

No def was much different back in the day. Today's players won't be able to take as many uncontested 3shots. So they would still lose. 3 is not the end all be all.

Good players in the 24 team are too old for the dream team's good players. MJ was at his peak, Sir Charles was at his peak and so were other greats like Malone, Stockton, Clyde, Ewing, Robinson, Pippen, Magic and Bird were the oldest? And they were only 32 and 35 respectively. Others are all in the mid 20s or later 20s or 30, peak!! Look at this 24 team, LBJ is 39, Curry is 36, KD is 35, Holiday is 34, AD is 31 and others are either too young, inexperienced or not enough to make an impact. No contest.
