Never seen a reaction from the audience like that, for any artist, before or since. It validates all the years we supported them and believed in them before it was cool to.

I know Neil was an extreme introvert and was uncomfortable with attention, but they were long overdue for this honor. I'm glad he was able to see how much they influenced so many other people in positivel ways. His words carried me through teen awkwardness (Subdivisions), helped me to understand the suffering of others (Red Sector A and Losing It), showed me the dangers of not thinking for myself (Witch Hunt, Fear, the Weapon), and gave me countless hours of enjoyment. As a singer, I perform in events where we choose songs to perform and at each event, I try to sing a Rush song - because they never fail to bring me joy.

I was there - in the room - in the nosebleeds. Lifelong fan since 1982. The "ovation" was more a guttural, collective cry of victory by the fans, which seemed to go on forever, as apparently we showed up in legion. Upon the initial eruption of applause, the band and their reactions were being projected on the screen, as were the other inductees' reactions, which just fed our fan frenzy even more. Finally, led by Neil, I think, the 3 band mates rose from their seats and waved to the crowd to acknowledge "the moment". I have never before or since experienced anything like it, and it's no surprise to me that Geddy references that moment often as a profound one. It was. And I was there, screaming like the teenage fan I used to be and still am in my mind. "Forever dwells in that moment - hope is what remains to be seen." -Neil Peart

    • @1985indeed
      @1985indeed Рік тому +3

That is brilliant! So good. "My Effin Life" brought me here, and you can really see how Geddy is feeling just as he describes in the book. In the book, he often describes his wife as "embarrassing easily" when they are public and he is spotted by a fan. Of course he doesn't mean that in a negative sense, it's just what it is. Seeing her here being quite shocked by the response is really something - she too is proud, as they all are on that table. What a moment.

@skomlos. Your description is so beautiful and poignant! Thank you for sharing ~ and bringing us into that room! "A guttural, collective cry of victory"...poetry and spoken from someone who understands what it truly means to love the music and the artistic genius behind it!

Geddy said in his book HOF MC guy was one of the reasons RUSH didn’t get in decades before. When exiting the stage he walked past Geddy, bent over and said in his ear “That was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen!” Geddy said “that moment when he said that meant more to me than getting in the HOF”. Rock on bro 😎

Rush changed my life. First time i heard them, i wanted to play music. I couldn't believe that 3 guys could do that. I still cant believe it 30 years later. They will always be the band I look up to most. Great guys, great musicians, and great song writers. The best part about them is how good of friends they really were... They changed rock music forever, for so many people. I cannot speak highly enough about Rush. Just look at the reaction they got. That says it all. Never seen a crowd react like that for a band that deserved to be first ballot. Every musician in there was on their feet. They gave us everything they had to give and will never be forgotten

  • @jhodges1369

Watching this video and the emotions that swelled up reminded me of all those times in school when I would play Rush and my friends would shrug because I played it so much. They would say things like "That guys voice is so high" and I would counter with "He sounds like a wizard" or they would complain "the songs were to long" and I would counter with "It's actually broken up into 6 parts" but I never converted them and I was left to carry the mantle of Rush's greatness on my own. And so I proudly did. Like some great secret that only a few were privileged to understand. I became synonymous with Rush. The thing people remembered about me through the years wasn't my work, family, talents, but the fact I was that Rush guy. The movie I Love You Man was my first insight into what was coming in 2013. That monster wave that had been suppressed but building over 4 decades and exploding in Cleveland that night at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. To see Musical talent like Dave Grohl, John Mayer, and Tom "no synthesizers" Morello openly gush with love and respect for what these three guys have accomplished over 4 decades made me feel so proud and appreciative to have had the honor to be a fan of this band! And judging from the ovation the crowd felt the same. R.I.P. Professor

As a teenager I first heard 'All the World's a Stage' at my neighbours house in the 70's. I then went on to buy 'Archives' a collection of their 1st 3 albums on holiday in Aberdeen when I was around 15 yrs old. I would sit in my parents dining room and listen to Archives until I knew all the words off by heart, the music and lyrics took me someplace else. I first seen them live at the Royal Highland Exhibition, Edinburgh in 1981 on the Moving pictures tour. I was a confirmed heavy metal/rock fan complete with leather jacket, cowboy boots and cut down levi jacket over the top. I had seen The Scorpions, Saxon (several times), Ozzy ,Michael Schenker Group, Peter Gabriel, Blackfoot, Girlschool and Genesis etc. None of my friends 'got' Rush. I kinda fell out of love with them when Grace Under Pressure was released then around 10 years ago I investigated their 'new' back catalogue when I watched the 'Rush in Rio' concert and realised some of their later stuff was quite good. Anyway that's my life story..... 🙂 p.s. I've seen them a few times after 1983 the best being on the R30 tour (with my Abba loving wife) at London Wembley Arena when Lifeson came on playing 'Finding My Way' note perfect. cue a slight dew in my eyes.....ua-cam.com/video/LIpO6bI7pjk/v-deo.html

From a Gary to Geddy your one of the most talented musician of all time! No one touches your talent on bass, keyboards, and singing! You are the definition of Unique and RUSH is not RUSH without your playing and vocals! To quote the movie: I LOVE YOU MAN! Alex and Neil as well!!
This is my essay to people who may not know RUSH or who Neil was professionally and his contributions to the art of drumming and lyrical writing! Enjoy!
RUSH is THE PERFECT EXAMPLE of the fluidity of MASTERING TIME SIGNATURES! I play drums and there are a few things that you need to know about Neil Peart’s ( pronounced PEER-T) character: First he writes the lyrics so he knows in advance what TYPE of song it’s meant to be ie ballad, driver, etc. Second he COMPOSES on the drums… like a carpenter who looks at a set of blueprints before building the object. Neil lays out a SKETCH in his mind of the VOICES of the drumset and builds the song from there. He is also a great LISTENER knowing when NOT to step over Geddy’s singing or Alex’s solos! Finally, he had perfect timing and fluidity of time changes. He said himself that it’s not about COUNTING the time signatures as much as fluid motion to change the tempo without counting: in other words it should FLOW! He hates repeating the same drum patterns in the same song meaning if he plays a fill one way the first time around he will play it differently the second time around. IE. Rolls down the toms the first time around and triplets or quads (all four limbs) the second time around. In short there will NEVER be another like him on planet earth 🌍 🌏 🌎! REST IN PEACE PROFESSOR!
With heart felt admiration and sincerity!
    Gary
Geddy Lee - Bass guitars, Oberheim polyphonic; OB-X; Mini-Moog; and Taurus pedal Synthesizers, vocals
Alex Lifeson - Six and twelve string electric and acoustic guitars, Taurus Pedals
Neil Peart - Drums kit, timbales, gong bass drums, orchestra bells, glockenspiel, wind chimes, bell tree, tubular bells, crotales, cowbells, plywood, tympani, and Gong!
Alex Lifeson: RUSH guitarist and Guru Extraordinaire! The HEART ❤️ AND SOUL OF RUSH! THE FUNNIEST MAN ON THE PLANET AND GREATEST SPEECH GIVER OF ALL TIME!!! BLAH…BLAH…BLAH! HATS 🎩 OFF TO ALEX LIFESON 😎😎😎👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🎸🎸🎸

A stirring video. Apparently the roar kept going for minutes and all we see on youtube is an edited version which cuts out a significant amount of time between "Toronto" and the next time he speaks. Neil's hometown of St. Catharines will be hosting a tribute event to his life and the band this coming November 6, 2021 assuming that we bid COVID a farewell of sorts.

The Beatles. The Who. Rush. The greatest 3 bands of modern rock. The arrogant close mindedness of the Hall and its leadership is still disgraceful. But the bands, the musicians themselves know. As Frank Sinatra said, the best revenge is massive success!
