I was at University with Jason (Media & Performance degree) and he sang in musicals at the Theatre Society that he was also the Director of. People think of him only as a comedian but he is actually an experienced all round performer and writer.
OMG! He's can't introduce the song as sung "by the copper who chases Alfie Boe" and then sing like that!!! It's just....not possible!!! That. was. incredible.
I think the fact the entire room was in silence after that first line says a lot about this mans talent. A damn good comedian and an even better vocalist it seems.
I loved him before I heard him sing but I would have thrown my knickers on the stage....my fave comedian singing my favourite song from les mis....bloody perfection!!!! *sighs dreamily*
What a voice! My gosh!!! He also has the bonus of sounding more like Phillip Quast's Javert than any other singer I've heard. Wow! I had no idea he had a voice like that!!!!
Yes, i was there too, in the 5th row and he was definitely singing live. In fact, it sounded better live than it does back through my computer! I was mightily impressed.
It's always a surprise when someone you don't associate with singing gets up and does something like this. Okay, it's easy to make fun of someone who's out of his normal 'comfort zone', but personally I think he did a great job on this one - it's not an easy number to perform at the best of times. Bless him, that was a good job.
Totally agree ! Just found this by accident. "Big respect", Mr. Manford, and very brave to do this at something like an Alfie Boe concert ! I'd completely forgotten the song (sorry !) but hit upon it by accident tonight. Glad I did.
he has a trained voice, you know, but it escaped and went back to the wild. Seriously impressed that he should tackle such a great song and do it so well
@ Coco pops - This is my video, I was there and I filmed it and can confirm that this IS Jason singing and NOT a backing track! The Preston Guild Hall is quite a small venue and no artist could ever get away with a backing track. I was sat in the second row and heard every word from his mouth, not the speakers.
squirtyflower I'm not sure why you had to post this, but regardless, thank you for posting this amazing performance ! It is really and truly awe inspiring, can only imagine how it felt to actually be there. .. lucky you to see both those gentlemen perform live and many thanks for sharing the experience with the rest of us!
Jason featured in and won the itv show Born to shine where he was mentored by a 14 yr old boy treble (Me!) and after that that was when all these opportunities came up for him as a singer!
I enjoy playing this for people, without letting them see the video, and asking them to guess the singer... and then revealing all. The reactions never fail to amuse :)

"this was the song sung by the copper who was chasing Alfie Boe"

He isn't funny at all but wow a singing voice I typed in stars and he came up
Whatever Alfie wants is okay by me. I think he sounds decent and Alfie would not embarrass himself.
I was there, what a fantastic night and how good was Jason!! I met him backstage after and he said that he had never had any training!
That was not what I expected. That was intense and beautiful. Amazing.
Wait, what? Hes funny AND a good singer? Life is not fair.

OMG I had no idea he could sing!! Why doesn't everyone know he's that incredible?

Totally agree ! Just found this by accident. "Big respect", Mr. Manford, and very brave to do this at something like an Alfie Boe concert !

Wow....just....wow. That was immense.
Fabulous version . Russel Crowe killed every song he sang in the movie.
Lorraine Owens I agree apart from Javerts Suicide, I think he did a good take on that
