    Will Chase Elliott bounce back in 2023 to win the championship?

  • @BrandonA1

    Chase Elliott had the most wins, laps led, and best average finish of any driver this past season. Despite having a 19.5 average finish in the last 11 races, he was so dominant in the first 25 that he still would have clinched the championship a round early

    Something about that 9 team was completely unmatched throughout the regular season. But, through the Playoffs, he fell in performance, and people like Logano, Chastain and Bell, who have been with the 9 team all year were able to surpass them.

      @Kartkid024 2 роки тому +3

      I wouldn't say he was lucky. It seemed like he was almost unlucky to miss it with how much went wrong for him. His regular season and his pure fight was the only reason he got past it.

      @@Kartkid024 I’d say he was lucky, if he doesn’t win Pocono (a race he finished 3rd) then Ross Chastain doesn’t have to Hail Melon, him and Denny would be in.

      @@NathanJakobMichaelThomas Again though, as much of a rare gift as Pocono was, he also got screwed out of Watkins Glen, the Roval and Road America. Could argue too he may have gotten screwed out of the first Martinsville race because of his pit crew and even the Indy Road course because of getting wiped out from behind. He also had to fight through some bad cars during the playoffs. So as much as he did catch some breaks during the season, I think he had far more go against him.

  • @hairywolfman3160
    @hairywolfman3160 2 роки тому +5

    I think it was the right call making the first missing rings of this season be about Chase Elliott. He was a more deserving champion than logano in my opinion.
    But I feel like you're going to have to do another one about Denny Hamlin for 2022. Even though he was just as inconsistent, if not more so, as anyone else in the field having that win taken away costing the points he would have needed to advance from Martinsville to Phoenix. Finishing second three times in a row in the opening round and not getting a single win there also cost him the points he would have needed. He was close to being hail melon proof at the end of martinsville. Or even looking at how his pit crew cost him spots on the final three pit stops of the Martinsville race. If the pit crew performs at the end of Martinsville the way they had at the beginning and middle portions of the race, Hamlin likely wins and Chastain doesn't even need to perform the hail melon in order to get to Phoenix.
    There are plenty of big stories this year, perhaps Kurt Busch deserves a spotlight for this season given his performance and the reason for his missing the playoffs, but unfortunately Hamlin deserves another missing rings special for this season, at some point.

Logano was the best car that race and that is all there is to it. But what a season Chase had. A 1 race championship means the championship 4 has become more prestigious and the championship a little less prestigious. The championship is still the biggest thing but it just doesn't mean what it used to and what it should.
    Chase took advantage of the playoffs in 2020 and won the championship. Chase won the Winston format this year and made the championship 4. He was the best this year. Luckily he already has a championship where he wasn't quite the best so it balances out.
    I just wish it wasn't one race at the end to decide it. I'm ok with the playoffs but I wish the final round was a 3 race round starting even in points.

    Elliott is joining the club that got robbed by the playoffs when it came to leading the series with a best average finish. Jeff Gordon (2004, 2007, and 2014), Carl Edwards (2008 and 2011) and Kevin Harvick (2010, 2015, 2016, and 2020). Just shows playoffs are here for entertainment and not crown a legitimate champion. Elliott's title quest in 2022 should of been more deserving than 2020. He is best with collecting the most points this season when Iceberg puts the Winston standings every Wednesdays plus racing reference shows that when looking at the bottom of the results page. He could of clinched at Martinsville. Chase Elliott came from the old racing order where average finish was everything. He won 2014 Nationwide Series Championship because he the most consistent driver that year plus 3 wins, 16 top 5s, 26 top 10s, average finish of 8, and 0 dnf's. I already beginning to fear that his racing profile soon might not fit into what NASCAR thrives on today. Chaos, aggressive driving, intentional wrecks, no need of putting together a consistent season. Shame on you NASCAR, Steve Phelps, Steve O Donnel, and everyone who favors entertainment over racing. Plus winning the championship isn't prestigious as it once was. Just a bonus.

    I never seen a driver fumble this hard, from peaking in the summer and easily the best driver at that time to a mediocre playoff run and a costly mistake at the finale.
    As much as I love the traditional points format, Chase choked this one away.

    His playoff inconsistency doesn't matter once he got into Phoenix IMO. Sure momentum helps a little but not a huge difference.
    Their strategy call worked to gain spots as well as get an extra pit stop for adjustments. He didn't finish the stage as high as he was before putting but he gained more spots from the stage break pit stop because he didn't have to wait on fuel like the others.
    At the time of that restart his car was the best it had been all day and he was right next to Joey. It very easily could've been chase winning the championship instead of Joey if chase didn't spin.

      I swear if there was a luck spectrum, Chase would be on one end and Joey on the other. That just seems how it goes for the two. Joey seems to catch the breaks and Chase always seems like he is in an uphill battle against stupidity. I figured it would eventually even out, but it just doesn't seem too.

Personally I think that all joe gibbs team drivers had something to do with it but that’s just me because they all seem to hate him and almost every time he crashes it’s by one of them. Honestly, it just seemed to me like they figured something out with the new car in the early part of the season, but by the playoffs, everybody else had figured it out too and he came crashing down to earth. Tension with Larson also probably affected the information exchange between the HMS teams as the season progressed, also hurting his playoff efforts.
