This is the first time where it hasn't bothered me THAT much, just because I'm not a fan of the exhaust note the hybrids make lol....
I think they were trying to hide just how much he’s short shifting, if you look at the lights on the steering wheel you can see he was cruising…..

Such a good guy, always like to hear what he has to say regarding F1, a one day successor to Martin Brundle perhaps.
He kinda did once back at the 2006 Hungarian Grand Prix, Martin was either racing,on a rest weekend or sick ( I cannot remember which one ) and Ant stepped into commentate alongside James Allen ( this was when itv was the uk main licence holders of F1 on TV)
I hope so he’s such a likeable character, plus he’s clearly very skilled at what he does

Can someone help me know, how many W12s exist? Is this the car hamilton uses in his races? I thought there would be only 2, one for lewis and one for bottas? Or do they have many spare cars as well?

@@noumaanbhombal352 Chassis stays the same, engines get replaced through the season along with any additional parts. No two chassis are the same, and is why Lewis wanted to swap with Bottas to test his chassis. So yes, it is the real chassis that Lewis uses, engine and driver setup would have altered around the driver.

For some of the filming days they have to use wet tyres so it raining is probably a good thing
It's a bit bizarre that Ant's been the Merc sim driver since they took over Brawn and is only now getting a go in the actual car. You'd think the sim driver(s) would need an appreciation of how the real car feels and handles to contextualise the sim.

What does the sim driver do exactly? I always thought sims were a tool to train the racing drivers, what's the job of a sim driver? I'm sure it has some purpose on the development of the car, they wouldn't pay a guy to play around in rFactor all day for no reason, but I can't really figure out what that purpose is.

@@TheDiasporaMedia Yeah, but I wasn't sure if he was specifically a sim driver during the BAR/Honda years or just a normal reserve driver (or even one of those mysterious "development drivers").
@@TransmitHim He was a third driver/test driver in those days. And he was eventually loaned to Super Aguri for his first full season. When that team collapsed he went back to what was then Honda.

Fairly sure he turned up to the Monster Hamilton x Rossi shoot a while back too so a big bike fan. . Bono, Lewis & Lewis’s ex manager used to spend a fair bit of time on bikes at tracks.

@@S03pkip To be fair to him, It did look like he was sending it at times & not holding back from a lot of the footage, which is impressive for a guy who never raced bikes as a kid/teen etc & only just got into a few years back. Always need bigger balls on a bike than a secure safe F1 cockpit. He said he had a spin but the bike was ok which isn't much of a crash tbh.

@@bennyfactor1 I think it's just Lewis tbh. Bono doesn't do much, even Angela doesn't skydive/ do extreme snow sports much. Toto probably stresses everytime he sees some crazy video, but when Lewis joined in 2013 this is what they agreed on, he's been doing it a long time. Oddly enough, Last year Merc's engineers & Toto/senior management went on a team bonding bike ride in Europe between raeces....there was a big pile up, 1 senior engineer broke his ribs & others were slightly injured. Lmao, there's risk everywhere I guess.

As a huge WEC fan Ant has my respect of one of the greatest racing drivers of the past decade. I wish we could have seen him alongside lewis this past era.

LoL yea even when Davidson was young he could barely retain his seat but now u want him in a Merc no less, all because he won WEC in 2014... That's um not one of the greatest racers this decade you clown
WEC fan here too. Even as a Porsche diehard, I really felt for him (and Nakajiman and Buemi) when their Toyota broke down 3 minutes from the end at Le Mans 2016. They pretty much ran the perfect race and still it was snatched from them due to a fairly simple mechanical component failing.

It is completely wrong that Merc gained such an advantage by doing this. Anthony Davison is their CURRENT sim and development driver and this was basically a sim correlation test for Merc. Ant even said he went straight back to Brackley from Silverstone to compare everything he learned from that day driving the car!

I love listening to ant he always has something interesting to tell you about the actual track or what the cars are doing thru a section, what the driver feels, what they are doing, what settings they adjust and he comes across as a really decent and genuine guy

@@destroyer28100 it was, there was a clash with the IndyCar schedule due to which he couldn't drive it in Paul Ricard, but I am sure they must've worked out a different date and I am looking forward to it.
Both he and Kevin are having the time of their lives on the top step in other forms of Motorsport and I couldn't feel prouder of those vankors.
I learnt one more thing today and that is, that Bono is a biker. Good man. Lewis likes his bikes as well.
Loved this, even after all Ant has done he gets as excited as a kid at things, which is what we all should do more in life.

So happy for this guy, he has helped to develop this car and many other Mercedes F1 cars over the years. Just wish he could have actually raced for the team at some point. People like Ant working in the background are what makes a top team. Glad you enjoyed it mate, you earned it.

Ant is a such a nice guy who brings heaps to the table as a pundit....shame the same can’t be said about everyone. Ant is a rare guy in F1 without a big ego which most ex drivers seem to have with big chips on their shoulders.

Ant - Hemel Hempstead's finest. Vastly underrated when he was in F1 and very quick as Honda test driver.

Would have loved to see Ant in a competitive F1 car. He was brilliant in carts and such a smooth driver, and so rapid as the 3rd driver during F1 Friday practice. . Surely Jenson, Lewis and Nico owe part of their championships to Davidson and his support in the sim car. His sports and endurance racing prove that he is one of the best British racing drivers.
I was sitting at Pouhon in 2002 when he went of the track in the Minardi, the gravel flew past my head.....
He deserves this drive, as he's done so much for the Mercedes in sim, hes done it for years too, people forget that about him, he's definitely helped Mercedes become good car for Lewis too drive, top guy great video too, hope he gets more drives on track, than the sim

It is hard to even imagine how tightly the drivers are sitting inside the car. No wonder they have limited sight outside of the car. Amazing engineering.
