Hi, I'm From the UK and love your videos. I'm 87 and still learning. Love History, Geography, Astronomy, I read all sorts of non fiction. On my PC I drive in 'American Truck Simulator' So it seems you are learning also. Keep it going girl.
Seen this clip before, but the delight in watching it was multiplied by the sheer exuberance and fun you displayed. Offence is subjective in many ways and, often, the offence is with the viewer: the comedian (in this case) does not cause offence, the viewer takes offence. That said, there are some comedians that I find offensive from time to time and those are usually the ones who toss out various -phobic and -ist slurs in a deliberate attempt to create a shock. You seem to have captured the essence of the act (emphasis on the word 'act') where he mocks all and sundry, but especially himself and his nation and manages to squeeze a few thought provoking comments in amidst the laughs.
Al Murray is the nuts. You are so right in what you say he is playing a role and actually he is taking the piss out of the kind of person he is playing
You absolutely understand his comedy, he is taking the Mickey out of us English as much as anyone else , English humour on an every day level is laughing at yourself. To many English not being able to laugh at yourself is seen as a negative.
You got it, 100% Nicely done. "Al Murray" is an Oxford University history graduate. If you want the inverse- ie a working class comedian that went to university- Micky Flanagan. I'd also recommend Dylan Moran's earlier material. There are darker but not that I'd really recommend from the UK.
I love that you understood the character Al is playing here. The "pub landlord" is a steroetype of the sort of bigoted, racist, uninformed "patriot" that you'll find in most English pubs. Utterly setain in their own ignorance, and Al plays that stereotype perfectly. He also does it with inciteful wit and humour, that is soaked with the subtle British art of "taking the piss", while on the surface spouting the obvious nonesense that you can here in most British pubs. Al himself is erudite, cultured, intelligent, and educated with a particular interest in history. Hi serious work is well worth a watch. I particularly enjoyed "Al Murray's Road to Berlin" series. Also...I enjoyed your reaction here. Liked and subbed.
An excellent and intelligent reaction to Al Murray, one of my favourite comedians. It may interest you to know that he studied history at St. Edmund Hall, University of Oxford and has in 2004 presented the Discovery Channel World War II documentary series entitled “The Road to Berlin”.
His podcasts with James Holland about the second world war (We have ways of making you talk)are informanitive and easily digestible about a very large subject.
I love the way you analyzed that! Personally Al Murray isn't one of my favourites, but he is very funny. Also I just want to say that I like your smile, your videos always brighten up my day😊
Yes, Al Murray is quite the history buff in real life - easily one of my favourite comedians. Loved your take on his comedy & his superb use of irony. As for other UK comedians with a dark sense of humour, I'd highly recommend Sean Lock (much missed). Cheers!
The best bit about that set is that the pub landlord is a complete send up of us (Brits) amplifying stereotypical attitudes that exist here, so he's taking the mickey out of you all (Americans) as a character that is taking the mickey out of us (Brits).
This is the first of your videos ive seen but you're a smart lady, you understood the character, the irony and what Al is trying to achieve there completely.

🙃 Sorry I hate doing an addendum to a subject I have already spoke on. But... Every thing Murray had fun with, I knew. I don't know how school study is done now. But also back then, it was drilled into our heads or you did not move on to the next grade. And that was supported by our parents. Many nights 3am still at the table being asked by my Mom, questions on the subject. I hated it. But guess what? I did not know that way down the road I would use all that so called crap subjects in my many travels around the world with the jobs and firms I have worked of as an engineer. I am retired now and blessed I am still around to witness the sad change in education. You my friend are not the norm. Your that kid living outside the box and loving the journey. Thank You.

Stewarts great, love his long form type comedy. I feel like you need to watch whole sets though or you miss out on the way he layers it all together. Be nice to see some reactions to him though!
I suspect that some people have only caught a small clip of Al Murray's pub landlord and jumped to the wrong conclusion, there's no malice in his humor, he studied world history extensively, whilst we're on the subject did you know that the tune to “The Star-Spangled Banner” was borrowed from a popular English drinking song called “To Anacreon in Heaven.” Written in 1775 by John Stafford Smith.
I'm 54 and I remember learning the words to the national anthem ('dirge' would be more appropriate) at primary school, along with songs like, "There'll always be an England" and other such jingoistic tosh.
The point about picking on “Steve” for the National Anthem was that Steve was a member of the Sex Pistols, who had a hit with a punk version of “God Save the Queen”!!
Hi, seen your channel for the first time. Enjoyed your reaction, and great to see you understand Al Murray's character, and this type of humour. I can recommend Al Murray explains 'How Global Finance Really Works'- it's hilarious!
I have now watched a few Americans commenting on British-based humour and other matters, and you are the only one who adds value. Well done. Have a look at Katherine Tate, playing 'Nan' and/or 'Lauren'. Examples are Nan - Anger management, and Lauren's New English teacher.
You are amazing, I love that you get irony, which is pretty much the foundation of a lot of British humour. Check out his global finance or Al Murray explains the euro crisis next or watch the whole of his set at the O2. When you watch the clips you miss the rest of the banter and interaction he has with the audience. He’s very clever in the way that he threads a loose plot of jokes in with the other members of the audience.
Every video I watch of yours. I'm impressed of your attitude, from science to comedy you see the logic despite and including personal attachment just logical
I'm not trying to be misogynist here. But your eyes are hypnotic. Your thirst for knowledge is addictive and your measured persona is incredibly charming. Thank you :)
I just finished a superb history of a mildly obscure topic: Cecil D. Eby's "Comrades and Commissars: The Lincoln Battalion in the Spanish Civil War" (Penn State University Press, 2007). Recommend to everybody interested in history. Eby may be the finest living authority on U.S. involvement in the SCW.
You have a very sensible and commonsense view of this video and took it for what it was without taking it too seriously and therefore was able to enjoy it for what it is. I think Al Murray would like you because, like us Brits, you have a sensible down to earth approach to life. 😂😉👍
A prayer for Niel, he was an American, he was roasted ...... thoroughly enjoyed your breakdown ( I wish i could be so calmly detached ) book recommendation (there are quite a few that i have read three times ... two while travelling in India, going from the finish and back to the start 1) Shantaram by Gregory Roberts and 2) Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.
Just wanted to say how impressed your video's. Al Murray is a very intelligent comedian who went to University and got a quality degree. "The Pub Landlord" gave him a figure to take the mickey out of anyone and anything. I'm English, living in the USA and find American humour rather odd because there's no sarcasm.
Spot on regarding stereotypical observational humour! Especially the landlord comment, which is Al's stand-up comic creation. He is definitely taking the p*ss out of the US at the same time as what's become known as Little Britain. A man that studied modern history at Oxford University and has done some excellent programmes on WWII, his fake persona belies his intelligence. He was on morning TV promoting his new book which I think will be an excellent read.
Al Murray is always good value, if you like dark comedy l would recommend 'The League of Gentlemen' it's Hammer Horror Movies meets the Rocky Horror Show, it's definitely an acquired taste. Set in a town called Royston Vasey who's motto is 'your never leave'. Inspired by an experience of four young friends, actors and comedians had in a 'local shop' while looking up some 'local' history'. Brilliantly written and performed. Try, "we didn't burn him" or "local shop" from the BBC series, although they have a number of stage shows.

Your analysis is spot on and as someone who's been in the front row of one of his shows , I'm speaking from experience. The front row and a few other people like Neil, or someone who got up to take a leak, are half of his act.
He's a very smart guy, I was amazed at the end of the show when he thanked everyone by name, the entire front row ,half the second row and a few others.
Would love to see a reaction on 'Al Murray, Why the British are undefeated world war champions'.
I haven’t watched this one yet! Thanks Jim (:
@@NoProtocol do watch it mate, its gold.
“Many people find this clip offensive… so naturally I was interested”
I salute you on that
Why is it offensive?
@@seasonedbeefsoffensive to melts
Al Murray is the nuts. You are so right in what you say he is playing a role and actually he is taking the piss out of the kind of person he is playing
It's a longer clip but hilarious (and probably more accurate than you would imagine) is Al Murray - How Global Finance Really Works 😂👍
Al Murray "fashion is like the dog track" has stuck with me for 15 years its like a parable absolutely fantastic
You absolutely understand his comedy, he is taking the Mickey out of us English as much as anyone else , English humour on an every day level is laughing at yourself. To many English not being able to laugh at yourself is seen as a negative.
Did you know sarcasm is also a big part of British humour.
Us Brits sarcastic? Never! 😆
More Al Murray / Pub landlord please , he's a hilarious national treasure .
Great reaction !
Would be wonderful to see you react to some QI episodes or compilations - especially with Stepthen Fry!
That was really funny, and I enjoyed watching you enjoy it, No Protocol. Thank You.
His podcasts with James Holland about the second world war (We have ways of making you talk)are informanitive and easily digestible about a very large subject.
i have watched a few reaction videos on him & have to say you are the only one who gets it & that's why i subscribed to you well done
More Al Murray please! Especially if that means we get to see that beautiful smile more ☺
I think you really got him 100%
I love the way you analyzed that! Personally Al Murray isn't one of my favourites, but he is very funny.
Also I just want to say that I like your smile, your videos always brighten up my day😊
That’s his pub landlord character the uneducated were the best character. 😂 In reality a very educated man.
This was great fun! LMAO... I'm a bit of a Carlin officionado so I picked up on that same thing right away. Thanks for sharing this was excellent.
A very level headed young lady. We need more young people like you.
Well done for just letting it roll without interruption.
He actually plays a character that's quite prevalent in east London. He nails it.
We all moved to Essex,Kent(me) Hertfordshire,Surrey and Sussex x 2 :)
Yes, Al Murray is quite the history buff in real life - easily one of my favourite comedians. Loved your take on his comedy & his superb use of irony. As for other UK comedians with a dark sense of humour, I'd highly recommend Sean Lock (much missed). Cheers!
He has a degree in Modern History from Oxford
people like Al Murray will keep society whole, and funny!!
It doesnt matter who comes first when your on your own does it ladys and gentlemen😂😂
The best bit about that set is that the pub landlord is a complete send up of us (Brits) amplifying stereotypical attitudes that exist here, so he's taking the mickey out of you all (Americans) as a character that is taking the mickey out of us (Brits).
i love your final synopsis, you hit the nail right on the head
Brilliant reaction. Informed, astute, and articulate with a fine sense of humour. Thank you . .
Well done. You nailed the analysis.
Al Murray is an Oxford Graduate, he Majored in Modern History. 👍
That's a great reaction you completely understand everything.
Thank you.
You have won a new subscriber.
This is the first of your videos ive seen but you're a smart lady, you understood the character, the irony and what Al is trying to achieve there completely.
Youve got it completely. It is comedy based on someone having polarised views - you laugh with him and at him.
wanted to say thanks, just found your channel and have been really enjoying the content.
I Love Al Murray! But then I'm Australian, so it's right in my wheelhouse! haha. Loved your reaction and your take on him too! And yes, an extremely clever writer. Not to mention cheeky as all hell! haha ;)
If "No Protocol" is not the cleverest, best informed and most insightful reactor on UA-cam in my 14 years here then I don't know who is.
She is an absolute intellectual delight.
Love the channel! Space, war history and some great comedians too. Great top yout wearing too with the little alien face 👽. Look forward to checking out some more of your uploads. (And definitely the quickest intro of any reaction channel I've seen) 😊 🏴
Thank You.
The reason why I like watching this lady’s videos is simply because she gets it.
I have not commentaded a youtube video before, but I had to comment this, just to rave a bit. It is the best reaction video I have seen, by about ten levels above. You comments are thoughtful! Why don’t more reactors not put more thought into it, I don’t know. You have talent and charm, oh, and that smile. In short you are great company to watch something with.
The best reaction that I have seen to this clip! Subscribed.
People want you to watch comedy because you have the most gorgeous smile/laugh. Your a joy to watch
If you're into British comedians and history and politics, then Stewart Lee is worth a watch. His Braveheart, and immigrants sketches are some of the best comedy I've seen.
I have him on the list but haven’t seen anything yet!
@@NoProtocol I concur with the Stewart Lee recommendations. He is a comedian although left leaning plays with that and likes breaking the fourth wall and deconstructing the comedians work.

ua-cam.com/video/XkCBhKs4faI/v-deo.html
and the braveheart sketch ua-cam.com/video/tHA1ufmLZQY/v-deo.html now this was sketch if i recall was record in Scotland and the way he plays with pride of heroes and pulls the rug ...
Stewarts great, love his long form type comedy. I feel like you need to watch whole sets though or you miss out on the way he layers it all together. Be nice to see some reactions to him though!
Absolutely! He is so very clever. Psychologically adept. It might take a while to cotton on to his style, but so worth it. IMHO.
You used to amaze me with some piece of knowledge relating to the clip. Now i just expect it. Smart girl. Stewart Lee u will appreciate 👍
You are so spot on with your comments, I love this channel you are brilliant.
3:50 “You guys learn that at school?” I think she was serious! Can you imagine…being taught ‘God Save the King’ note by each musical note…at school😂
TBF i learned it in music class... at school
Have just subscribed, love Al Murray, I have to say you are one of the more astute intelligent reviewers I have seen. I wish you well.
Great analysis, spot on!
Your videos are great ! Your smile and laugh are a bonus! Thanks!
Frankie Boyle is a good choice for darker comedy. Quite political too. Great reaction and 100% agree with your analysis of this humour!
I’m so glad you got his type of comedy. He certainly is playing a stereotype but with great wit.
GB in one word.. "Bothered"
Your analysis is spot on.
Adore watching your reactions. You're always insightful and thoughtful, and your reaction to the coming first joke was a joy to see! 😄
You have a very sensible and commonsense view of this video and took it for what it was without taking it too seriously and therefore was able to enjoy it for what it is. I think Al Murray would like you because, like us Brits, you have a sensible down to earth approach to life. 😂😉👍
I actually genuinely like this reaction... subscribed
You totally got it!
Fantastic 🤣 you the first person I’ve seen react to this clip that got the “doesn’t matter who comes first when your on your own” 😂
Great reaction, any Al Murray video is a win but my favorite is "Nations of the world"
A prayer for Niel, he was an American, he was roasted ...... thoroughly enjoyed your breakdown ( I wish i could be so calmly detached ) book recommendation (there are quite a few that i have read three times ... two while travelling in India, going from the finish and back to the start 1) Shantaram by Gregory Roberts and 2) Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse.
Al Murray is a bit of a history specialist. Highly recommend his documentary 'Al Murray's German Adventure', especially if you like Goethe...
