I think it might have just been because I am gay but I honestly never thought that as a kid. It never crossed my mind. I guess I can see why someone would think that but without explicitly saying that they are a couple or they have a crush on each other I don't think I ever would have thought that as a kid.
Sandy originally being conceived as a _potential_ love interest for Spongebob in the early days of the show sounds about right. Tea at the Treedome in particular really just seems to give off that vibe, what with it basically being a whole episode dedicated to introducing her as a character. (Think about it, very few of the main characters got such treatment with Spongebob having to meet them for the first time in their debut episodes. He already knows Patrick and Squidward in the pilot, and is at least familiar with Mr. Krabs. The only other time I can think of a whole episode being set aside just to add a character to the central cast was the aptly-named "Plankton!") All this to say that the structure of her debut episode-- or rather, the fact that she _gets_ a "debut episode" all to herself-- serves to subtly paint Sandy as being special in some way. In their first conversation, Spongebob doesn't know what air is, but Sandy says she likes the stuff so his first instinct is to lie and say he does too. Spongebob doesn't usually make any effort to hide when he doesn't know something, but apparently impressing Sandy and making her think they have something in common is important to him for some reason. Afterwards, Spongebob runs to Patrick. "I just met this girl," he tells him, as he solicits advice for 'putting on airs', and thus continuing to appear fancy and impressive. And then there's the self-imposed tradition of showing up at Sandy's door with flowers... Basically what I'm saying is, Sandy's introduction to the show bears all the kid's-TV-show watermarks of setup for a possible romantic subplot, or at least recurring romantic subtext. And honestly? Even if the idea _hadn't_ been quietly dropped somewhere along the line, I feel like subtext is all it would've been anyway. I can't imagine the creators of the show ever coming out and establishing Spongebob and Sandy as a canon couple once and for all.
@@Warzulu77 And there was literally a short where it's revealed that he made up a holiday centered around surprising her in a nice way, and this time he chose to do so by leaving her flowers and a secret admirer note. ("To Sandy, the smartest, prettiest squirrel in Bikini Bottom. Signed, a friend")
+9TheMiddleMan9 I think you're talking about the episode, House Sittin' For Sandy, from Season 8. *Sandy:* You seem to be doing a good job paying attention, SpongeBob. *SpongeBob:* I respect your meticulous nature. *Sandy:* _[blushes]_ Oh! Why, thank you, SpongeBob! *SpongeBob:* _[concerned]_ What's next on the list?
There's also the argument that just because it is never explicitly said in season 1 that SpongeBob is attracted to Sandy and is trying to win her over, that that isn't what's going on. SpongeBob's writing, especially in early seasons, was pretty smart, which helped it win a lot of adult fans. The writers possibly thought that they didn't need to outright have SpongeBob say "I have a crush on this girl" because the hints might be enough to explain his motivation.
I've shipped them for years, but I think Spongebob would need to be matured (and his sort of obsession with Squidward would need to end) before they got together officially. I'd say it's a lot like Fry and Leela from Futurama (except not as blatant or sexual in nature). Fry had to mature as a character before that relationship could be realized.
I really think Sponge Bob and Sandy's relationship in the first season was fun! Kinda wish they kept it going at least a bit longer. This was a fun video pieguy!
I actually thought the idea of SpongeBob having a crush on Sandy was cute. ^^ I do think they threw out the idea after Season 1 (maybe 2, it's debateable), which for me is a shame but I completely understand why. That said - a crush and a relationship are two separate things. The only episode that may indicate that Sandy feels the same way is Karate Choppers... but the others, like you said, just suggest a possible crush. Do I think they should become an official couple? Eh... not really. SpongeBob isn't that kind of show, you know? Do I think they should maybe hint at the crush again? If Hillenburg is open to it, then yes. =) Kids get crushes sometimes, and what makes SpongeBob's possible crush special (to me) is that his interest comes from how unique and different she is (as opposed to being pretty and noticing him, the standard crush formula). It also makes sense for him to have an odd crush like that, since SpongeBob is a very unique specimen himself (I hated "To Love a Patty," though... Just, ugh...). I think it's stuff best left to the fans to ship and make art / stories of their own. =) It's pretty cute, in my opinion, but to make it an actual relationship on the show doesn't really gel with the show's atmosphere. ~shrug~
I think they were trying to imply that SpongeBob had a crush on Sandy in the first few episodes, particularly "Ripped Pants", but they dropped it once the characters established their identities. It's interesting to look back on, since we all know now that SpongeBob as a character is asexual/aromantic, and the show rarely deals with romance. But SpongeBob's actions in "Ripped Pants" are the typical behaviors of a boy trying to impress a girl. Even notice how shy SpongeBob is around Sandy in "Tea at the Treedome" - almost as if he was afraid of looking weak in front of her, hence why he didn't just tell Sandy that he needed water. Most of the Sandy episodes in season 1 involve SpongeBob trying to impress Sandy in some capacity, and trying way too hard. So it definitely was a thing at one point, but they dropped it almost immediately. Probably because it would just be weird for a character like SpongeBob to be in a relationship with anyone, or have those kind of feelings.
Wait, do you smell that? That smell.... That smelly smell.... That smelly smell, that smells.... Smelly.... Tumblr.... Commenter: What was that? *T U M B L R ! ! !*
You just made me realize the sexual tension in Karate Choppers...... holy crap, is that episode quite the dirty one if you think about it in that light.
Clearly it’s canon that SpongeBob likes Sandy as a girlfriend (not even from Season 1). He marries her in a wedding play, there is a book that implies his crush on her, they do karate and science together a lot, and top it all off, Sandy seems to be the only one (only girl to be exact) he mostly gives flowers to. Granted SpongeBob is the kind of guy who likes just about everything and everyone. Recently, there have episodes where they both do stuff together. 😉
The entirety of “Karate Choppers” can be interpreted as a sex metaphor from jokes such as: “safety first”, an attempted attack over the phone, the use of hot sauce which is literally out of the BDSM playbook (“power of naughtiness” indeed), and the same scene’s “novelty toy” (very “speciality phone operator” title), the entire scene at the park that ends with them panting heavily
I'm pretty sure it's cannon, I get the feeling of it episodes like Ripped Pants, Plus I got a spongebob book as a Christmas gift once advertising a bunch of episodes and in it spongebob mentioned his crush on sandy and then asked the reader not to tell her, while its not a very important thing it is official merchandise made by Nick so yeah I'm sure he's got a crush in a childlike way with her
I was thinking that in Squirl Jokes maybe he is trying to do the hate your crush thing but it doesn’t seem like that it seems more just trying to impress the fish with his jokes
Wasn't there that scene in "Valentines Day", where Sandy says to Spongebob "I'm nuts for you" and then there's "Pre-Hibernation Week" where Sandy gets crazily worried about Spongebob when he goes missing
Don't forget they got "married" in that one episode. Lol! So I remember reading a little section of a Spongebob activity book years ago. Not like a coloring book. It was like, Sponge introduces you to Bikini Bottom, and answering Q&A type questions. Something like that One question seemed to be asking for advice about love, for the kids. He started with something like, he liked to be kind around others (or, that it was nice to be nice to your special someone) and to spend time with them, such as having lunch. THEN he added while have lunch to make sure your air helmet doesn't fog up when your nervous like his, and how he enjoyed looking at her astronaut suit- before cutting off and going on to the next Q. Wish I could've kept that little evidence. I was fangirling the whole day because I just, didn't except that! hahaha Tho I think the book's writer wasn't associated with the show, so it might not be canon stuff.
I remember that book! Apparently the same author also wrote "Spongebob's Secret Valentine", which also features heavy Spongebob-liking-Sandy implications. Guess that guy is a shipper xP
I think SpongeBob does like Sandy, but whether or not I would want to see them be a couple is questionable. Firstly, because SpongeBob doesn't seem to be the kind of character that would have a girlfriend. Secondly, the way they trolled SpongeSandy shippers in Truth or Square makes me want to believe they wouldn't make for a good couple. However, there's also been episodes that have shown that SpongeBob and Sandy would make a great couple. And if they ever did pair up, SpongeBob is very inconsistent with continuity, so they can make them a couple one episode, then just friends the very next.
I'm glad you emphasized the difference between Asexual and Aromantic. As an Asexual person myself, I find the lack of understanding of this to be worrying. Thank you for clarifying that. Then again, you really wouldn't see sexual attraction in a kid's show beyond a random adult joke, which you pretty much said, so, there's that.
In the PC game "Employee of the Month", Spongebob just flat out says "Looking at her makes me smile", and even has a pinup of her in a bikini in his locker. Maybe this can't be considered canon, so there's another piece of evidence: In the Korean dub of the Ripped Pants song, the lyrics flat out mention the word "girlfriend". And again, this might not be clear cut evidence, but there's some food for thought.
It’s such a strange topic because there’s all these little hints sprinkled around the main road we call canon, but it ‘isn’t quite canon.’ Ugh it’s a mess lmao
Personally I don't like shipping kid characters unless that character is shown to have romantic interest. Looking back at season 1 you can definitely tell that he does have some sort of feelings for Sandy
Spongebob was definitely in love with Sandy is season 1, almost every episode involved him trying to impress her. Most notably ripped pants. Also the one where they go on a date in her dome, where there’s no water. Sponge was willing to do that just to be close to Sandy. And of course there’s Texas, where Spongebob goes out of his mind trying to stop Sandy from leaving Bikini Bottom. Those were some great episodes. I hate that they dropped that angle. It’s not like they were being overtly romantic for a kids show or anything, it was a cute implied ship, and it made for lots of funny and memorable moments.
There was an episode where Spongebob actually said, “Remember when Sandy and I got married?” It never happened it was just his mind thinking about them getting married. I feel like that is a very significant info for this.
This video is *super* old now, but at one point Sandy was meant to be SpongeBob's love interest. In the original pitch bible provided by Stephen Hillenburg, Sandy was "the apple of SpongeBob's eye". I've read a theory that they toyed with the idea of Sandy being a love interest in her early episodes, which could explain why SpongeBob goes out of his way to make her laugh or impress her.
I absolutely love the first 3 minutes of the video. Very well explained, no making light of the fact that spongebob could be asexual, and a good understanding of the terms ace/aro, not taking the subject as a joke, but as an actual interesting part of the show. Good job as always Pieguyrulz!!!!!!!
SpongeBob and Sandy had always shared a special bond. Their friendship blossomed over the years, turning into a deep and abiding love. One sunny day in Bikini Bottom, as they sat under Sandy’s tree dome, SpongeBob turned to her with a serious look in his eyes. “Sandy, I’ve been thinking. What if we started a new adventure together, just the two of us?” Sandy’s eyes sparkled. “You know, SpongeBob, I’ve been thinkin’ the same thing. I love Bikini Bottom, but I’ve been missin’ Texas more and more lately. Maybe it’s time for a change.” With their hearts set on a new beginning, they decided to sell their homes. SpongeBob said a heartfelt goodbye to his pineapple house, while Sandy bid farewell to her tree dome. The community of Bikini Bottom gathered to wish them well, with Squidward trying to hide his tears and Patrick giving them the biggest hug he could muster. As they packed up their belongings and set out on their journey, the excitement of what lay ahead filled them with joy. They drove through cities and countryside, finally arriving in Dallas, Texas. It was a bustling city, full of new opportunities and adventures waiting to be discovered. They found a charming house in a quiet neighborhood, perfect for starting their new life together. The house was a blend of their personalities: Sandy’s Texan flair and SpongeBob’s quirky charm. Moving in, they felt a sense of peace and excitement about their future. SpongeBob found work at a local store, where his infectious positivity and eagerness to help quickly made him a favorite among the staff and customers. He loved his job, always bringing a smile to everyone’s face with his kind words and helpful nature. Sandy, embracing her role as a housewife, created a warm and loving home for them. She filled their days with laughter, delicious home-cooked meals, and endless support. She also found time to work on personal projects and hobbies, occasionally volunteering in the community. Their love grew stronger with each passing day, as they navigated their new life together. Weekends were spent exploring Dallas, attending local festivals, and enjoying the beautiful Texas landscapes. They often reminisced about Bikini Bottom, staying in touch with Squidward and Patrick through video calls
God, part of the reason I clicked on this video was because I used to ship these two as a kid and I was interested in hearing your two cents on the ship. XP
I hope I'm remembering these correctly. There is a book out there called "Spongebob's Secret Valentine" and in that book I believe he wants Sandy to be his valentine. There's also a book I had a long time ago, it might've been called something like "The Complete Spongebob Manual" or something like that. Anyway in that book it had all these facts and interesting info about the Characters and it describes Sandy as "The apple of Spongebob's eye". I'm gonna see if I can find it on the internet and I'll link it.
I think that in Season 1- back when they hadn’t quite gotten a grasp on the shows identity- SpongeBob was written to have something of a one sided crush going on. When they later realized that there was a veritable comedy goldmine in keeping SpongeBob’s behavior more akin to that of a kid, they dropped this angle in favor of making Sandy something more closely resembling an older sister.
I dont know I was like that to my ex bf motherly and wants to protecf him but rnw the opposite wince its x right lol anyways it always that way and my x always thanked me how I cared for him even though he is a jerk so yeah its not sister love for me how she looks out for him and how concern she was for him and finds him all over town that whole epsiode proves it alot tho
Only if you want to look for subtext in what could be just a close friendship interpretted as a couple. Tbh though I wouldn't be against the pairing. It's kinda like SonAmy with me. Sure it doesn't make the most sense but it's cute. And it is fun speculation at the least. ;) So I agree 100% here.
I ship Spongebob and Sandy! Spandy rules! I don’t think Spongebob is literally a kid, I think he’s an adult who acts very cutesy. Plus him and Sandy got married during a flashback in Truth Or Square, even though they were just acting. I would like to see the show end with the two sometime in the future having “actually” been married and have kids. So yeah, Sandy works way better as a love interest for Spongebob. A boy who is sweet and pure, and girl who is tough and smart.
I originally thought sponge bob and sandy were to have a on-off romantic relationship in season one. Especially if you watch Tea at the Tree Dome, but I assume the writers made the two just friends to fit Spongebob's character more.
I feel like in Tea at the Treedome and Ripped Pants particularly establishes SpongeBob having some sort of romance towards Sandy. Like the Ripped Pants lyrics are literally have some romance vibes like "and no girl ever wants to dance with a fool who went and ripped his pants" like Idk man. I feel season 1 tries to hint at it
I always thought of it that SpongeBob had a crush on Sandy in the beginning, but eventually realized he sees her more as a friend. Who says he himself even realized he was ace at the time?
Happy that you're still doing these Square theories! I never thought that SpongeBob liked Sandy in that way but was maybe always trying to impress her?
You’re right about Sandy at one point being the love interest. On the SpongeBob wiki,it mentioned that in the pitch bible that Sandy is the “Apple in SpongeBob’s eye” implying she was the love interest at the beginning of production and possibly early season 1.
I just woke up from a dream where Spongebob confessed angrily about having feelings for Sandy to Squidward. Then Squidward felt bad. Then something about Squidward needing air and stuff in usual silly Spongebob fashion.
You're forgetting the last end credits song in Sponge out of Water, that is literaly abput Spongebobs romantic feelings for Sandy. Its called "Sandy Squirrel"
I think they made a few implications on that in maybe the first season and maybe the second season to a certain extent but there was never anything coming from that. So I think that maybe there was an idea based on all those hints that over time however just got shelved for unknown reasons.
I always thought he liked her because of Ripped Pants and Tea at the Treedome sort of aswell. There's also a book called Spongebob Survival Guide where he sort of reveals that he does. I didn't know about those tweets!
Him deepening his voice saying "Oh look, Sandy." in Level 3 before the fight and later on he tells her when she asks for Hot Objects for her TreeDome, he tells her, "Anything for you, Sandy." Those are just the first 2 off the top of my head. I want to say the game has at least 2 more like that.
@@oftenseen22 well ik I'm not buying the game for that and I can't find any clips I do assume you are speaking the truth, but idk if there's any clips I can find of it.
they actually are aware, and bait & switched it in one of the later episode specials. Something about being stuck in the vents, of the krusty krab, and spongebob made up a story how him and sandy got married. The commercial teased it as if it was something that was gonna happen, but i never bought it. The classic seasons tho, I used to ship them lol.
Season 1 may have some major evidence, but Seasons 10, 11, and 12 also have evidence! I really want this to be “officially” canon! It would be nice and fun! I am actually a shipper, but only with couples that make sense. I even made a video on my channel to prove my point.
The creator of the series was a ocean biologist and sponges reproduce asexually so maybe that’s what he meant. And he probably said ALMOST because spongebob had a butt
When I read the title for this I threw my IPad across the room in surprise. Also isn't it weird that he didn't start the video by saying "Welcome back to another square theory"?
I'd say yes. In a Spongebob app I have (Spongebob: Sponge out of Water: Sponge on The Run) when Spongebob dies, he sometimes says "tell Sandy I love her" My bad guys I've grown and changed so much in the past 5 years and I now understand that SpongeBob likes Squidward. Who cares what that app said
I definitely think that's what they were going for at first, but quickly dropped it after the first season, likely because it would be weird to see an interspecies romance in a kid's show.
I actually recall an episode (I believe involving a rocket ship in one of the more recent seasons) where Sandy straight up says she loves him. Let's not forget that stand-up poster of Sandy Spongebob has at his house in one of the video games.
I know this is just an app game but in "Sponge on the Run" SpongeBob says, "tell Sandy I love her" one of the times you die in the game ua-cam.com/video/th1N938evb8/v-deo.html. Plus there was that weird "Sandy Squirrel" song from the 2nd Spongebob movie in the end credits for some reason. I personally think the idea of Sandy and Spongebob having crushes on each other is adorable, but given the nature of the show, it would be too out of left field if they started dating.
Ahem, ever read the book “spongebobs secret valentine”? He wants sandy to be his *valentine* ❤️ Did you look at Sandy’s part with the relationship? In goons on the moon (most recent episode) she says that she loves spongebob even though he is not very smart, yes she actually says she loves spongebob to the camera, you have to watch the episode to really understand it.
Watching the early seasons does make you wonder. I'd also add that once the writers started flanderizing SpongeBob so that he seemed really immature, Sandy became strangely underused as a character. If, after maybe season 4, the writers gave SB some continuity and focused on building on previous episodes, things might have gone exactly that way. Some even more subtle hints: - In Suds, SpongeBob, almost for granted, requests Sandy to take him to the doctor's and she's a bit too concerned - In Wormy, SpongeBob's first worry about the butterfly is that it might eat Sandy even though she's out of town - The entirety of Prehibernation Week; Sandy goes bonkers over SpongeBob - In Squirrel Jokes, she's both the loudest one cheering him on and willing to inflate him with water to make him that see he's hurt her, and after a loss of confidence, he learns his lesson - In Pressure, they take each others' teasing a bit too seriously - In I Had an Accident, Sandy's last idea to get SpongeBob outdoors is to make him think he has to save her from a gorilla - In Dunces and Dragons, SpongeBob is overjoyed that "Sandy" complimented him ("I don't understand a word you just said!")
Technically, spongebob did marry sandy since their play involved a real priest who didn’t know it was a play. In a deleted scene the priest said didn’t know this was a play and spongebob replies “it doesn’t have to be” sandy then slaps him and then leaves.
I’ve always thought of Spongebob’s affection toward Sandy to be kind of like puppy love, where he has a crush on her but doesn’t quite understand his feelings yet, like when little kids have crushes. saying Spongebob might have a crush on Patrick just made me burst out laughing.
Also in truth or square he recalls a time when him and Sandy got married. Even if it was false, he still seemed happy about it.
Otter Empire the priest was real so they technically are married :P

I think he meant "asexual" in both ways. Spongebob is asexual because he can reproduce asexually. So that's why there's no need for him have a partner, whether it's either sexual or romantic.

It really is all up to the viewer's interpretation. But even as a young kid, I always figured there was something special going on between them.
I shipped them when I was 5 I swear, before I even knew what shipping meant lmao
I think it might have just been because I am gay but I honestly never thought that as a kid. It never crossed my mind. I guess I can see why someone would think that but without explicitly saying that they are a couple or they have a crush on each other I don't think I ever would have thought that as a kid.
@@box2365 i watched spongebob sponge on the run its true hint: sponge bob and sandy kissing in a tree k i s s
Same until now as an adult
Same I thought that way too
Sandy originally being conceived as a _potential_ love interest for Spongebob in the early days of the show sounds about right. Krabs. The only other time I can think of a whole episode being set aside just to add a character to the central cast was the aptly-named "Plankton!")
All this to say that the structure of her debut episode-- or rather, the fact that she _gets_ a "debut episode" all to herself-- serves to subtly paint Sandy as being special in some way.
If you remember in ripped pants, he was trying to win Sandy over Larry. At least that’s what I think he was doing :P

Not to mention that in "Tea at the Treedome," Patrick was pretty much SpongeBob's wingman.
I could've sworn in a newer episode of Spongebob, Sandy looked at Spongebob lovingly and in a sentimental voice, and he reacted as if he was annoyed.
+9TheMiddleMan9 I think you're talking about the episode, House Sittin' For Sandy, from Season 8.
*Sandy:* You seem to be doing a good job paying attention, SpongeBob.
*SpongeBob:* I respect your meticulous nature.

*SpongeBob:* _[concerned]_ What's next on the list?
Thats not all that new
@@javariyearwood6792 so was he acting annoyed to cover up his crush on sandy?
Fry had to mature as a character before that relationship could be realized.
who didn't ship from childhood? first time i saw spongebob, i was like hmm, i ship them

I really think Sponge Bob and Sandy's relationship in the first season was fun! Kinda wish they kept it going at least a bit longer. This was a fun video pieguy!
It kinda is nowadays. But why was it not going on more often. It’s doesn’t seem fair.
@@cartoongamegirl3335 i agree
"I like Squidward" 😆 I find that quote funny for some reason.
It’s the scales accompanying the flirty finger waggle on the second “Bye Squidward” that gets me.
CrimsonKing12000 I HATE THAT!!! It’s just a stupid and random joke!
It's a joke. The writers are just trying to be funny. It doesn't mean he likes squidwatd
I actually thought the idea of SpongeBob having a crush on Sandy was cute. ^^
I do think they threw out the idea after Season 1 (maybe 2, it's debateable), which for me is a shame but I completely understand why.
Smelly....

*T U M B L R ! ! !*
i think it was more of a deviantart thing but lmao
You just made me realize the sexual tension in Karate Choppers...... holy crap, is that episode quite the dirty one if you think about it in that light.
Yeah, if I'm remembering right, there's even a point where they do a lot of physical activity that leads to heavy breathing/panting from both of them.
That becomes extremely disturbing when you consider the ending involves them doing those things to sell Krabby Patties.
SAFETY FIRST!
"F-for a minute there that almost sounded like--"
"Karate?"
[eagerly] "Right now?!"
+Elsie Somebody needs to make a ytp of that episode where karate is replaced with sex.
And heart choco in shape of heart box things
The entirety of “Karate Choppers” can be interpreted as a sex metaphor from jokes such as: “safety first”, an attempted attack over the phone, the use of hot sauce which is literally out of the BDSM playbook (“power of naughtiness” indeed), and the same scene’s “novelty toy” (very “speciality phone operator” title), the entire scene at the park that ends with them panting heavily
I'm pretty sure it's cannon, I get the feeling of it episodes like Ripped Pants,
Plus I got a spongebob book as a Christmas gift once advertising a bunch of episodes and in it spongebob mentioned his crush on sandy and then asked the reader not to tell her, while its not a very important thing it is official merchandise made by Nick so yeah I'm sure he's got a crush in a childlike way with her
I was thinking that in Squirl Jokes maybe he is trying to do the hate your crush thing but it doesn’t seem like that it seems more just trying to impress the fish with his jokes
Wasn't there that scene in "Valentines Day", where Sandy says to Spongebob "I'm nuts for you" and then there's "Pre-Hibernation Week" where Sandy gets crazily worried about Spongebob when he goes missing
I feel like it was intentionally vaguely hidden in season 1 that he liked her, especially in Tea At The Treedome but 100% dropped season 2+
Don't forget they got "married" in that one episode. Lol!
So
I remember reading a little section of a Spongebob activity book years ago. Not like a coloring book. It was like, Sponge introduces you to Bikini Bottom, and answering Q&A type questions. Something like that
One question seemed to be asking for advice about love, for the kids.
I was fangirling the whole day because I just, didn't except that! hahaha
Tho I think the book's writer wasn't associated with the show, so it might not be canon stuff.
I remember that book! Apparently the same author also wrote "Spongebob's Secret Valentine", which also features heavy Spongebob-liking-Sandy implications. Guess that guy is a shipper xP
@@elsie8757 I found the book in YT, it was a fun read. I've also seen one of the questions but not the specific one from the OP, wish I could find it.
What is the name of the book?
I don't usually ship cartoon characters but.... I strangely ship spongebob and sandy.
And now you understand what's wrong with shipping once you ship you can't stop
The EoTM game may not be canon, but Tom Kenny voiced that line, and it makes me happy :)
I think Sandy hasn't had any romantic pairings at least in part due to the fact that she is a land animal in a city of sea creatures.
We have a crab and a fish who date ... I don't think species matters in the cartoon
The short “Flowers For Sandy” reveals that SpongeBob DOES have a crush on Sandy. Check it out! I’m serious!
Personally I don't like shipping kid characters unless that character is shown to have romantic interest. Looking back at season 1 you can definitely tell that he does have some sort of feelings for Sandy
Spongebob's an adult...
@@EmmaCRB1989age wise spongebob is an adult, hes just very childish in personality. Same with squidward sandy and Patrick. All are adults.
Yes! SpongeBob likes Sandy. They were supposed to be love interest in the beginning of season 1.
They still are!
I've read a theory that they toyed with the idea of Sandy being a love interest in her early episodes, which could explain why SpongeBob goes out of his way to make her laugh or impress her.
ae

What if we started a new adventure together, just the two of us?”
Sandy’s eyes sparkled. “You know, SpongeBob, I’ve been thinkin’ the same thing. I love Bikini Bottom, but I’ve been missin’ Texas more and more lately. Maybe it’s time for a change.”
With their hearts set on a new beginning, they decided to sell their homes.
They often reminisced about Bikini Bottom, staying in touch with Squidward and Patrick through video calls

dotz71000 Yes, at least it would make more sense. (I'm not a shipper of any characters of any media, by the way.)

Well technically they were married in Truth Or Square.......
It was a play
Well the priest thought it was real, and read a bunch of legally binding things, so they’re officially married.
I'm gonna see if I can find it on the internet and I'll link it.
i kind of started to think this after re watching ripped pants i noticed a lot of clues
I think it's best that Sandi acts like a big sister towards spongebob
When I was a kid, I honestly thought they kind of liked each other.
"Ahhh, Sandy Cheeks. Seeing her makes me smile."

^Said while looking at a literal pinup poster of her that he keeps in his cabinet at work, no less
I don’t think SpongeBob is aromantic because in the episode Club SpongeBob, he asked the Magic Conch if he would ever get married
Jay you’re right, I read it as asexual for some reason.

To be honest I thought Spongebob had a crush on Squidward.
Happy that you're still doing these Square theories! I never thought that SpongeBob liked Sandy in that way but was maybe always trying to impress her?
I just think they are good friends but they really do care about each other
You’re right about Sandy at one point being the love interest.
I don't think so, but it's fun to think about
I think there were going to in the beginning. I did sense some romance in the earlier episodes. but in the end they chose to make the show unromantic
You're forgetting the last end credits song in Sponge out of Water, that is literaly abput Spongebobs romantic feelings for Sandy. Its called "Sandy Squirrel"
I still ship them :P
Esme Marion Keep on dreaming.

Heh... Hard evidence. ( ͡º ͜ʖ ͡º)
I think they made a few implications on that in maybe the first season and maybe the second season to a certain extent but there was never anything coming from that.
So I think that maybe there was an idea based on all those hints that over time however just got shelved for unknown reasons.
I remember shipping Spandy as a kid. I still think it’s kind of cute.
I always thought he liked her because of Ripped Pants and Tea at the Treedome sort of aswell. There's also a book called Spongebob Survival Guide where he sort of reveals that he does. I didn't know about those tweets!

Finally, someone says it! Asexual doesn't mean aromantic. They are not the same thing. Thank you!
I personally feel like there is some borderline flirting between SpongeBob and Sandy in the latest SpongeBob video game, The Cosmic Shake.
I'm so glad someone noticed. I've been starving for this kind of interaction, and I'm glad the game did it.
I wouldn't mind the series creating a small romance between the two of them. Season 1 wad leaning towards it and dropped it almost since.
Any particular moments? I want to analyze it
Him deepening his voice saying "Oh look, Sandy." in Level 3 before the fight and later on he tells her when she asks for Hot Objects for her TreeDome, he tells her, "Anything for you, Sandy."
Those are just the first 2 off the top of my head.
In a Spongebob app I have (Spongebob: Sponge out of Water: Sponge on The Run) when Spongebob dies, he sometimes says "tell Sandy I love her"
My bad guys I've grown and changed so much in the past 5 years and I now understand that SpongeBob likes Squidward. Who cares what that app said
He doesn't like squidward. That's whole thing is a joke
@@theamericanlife1111 cope harder
They're tighter than bark on a tree
I definitely think that's what they were going for at first, but quickly dropped it after the first season, likely because it would be weird to see an interspecies romance in a kid's show.
Kids' shows have interspecies romances all the time though. Especially when the characters are anthropomorphic like this
and also mrs. puff and mr. krabs were dating in season 11
The interspecies factor is kinda out of the question though. Mr Krabs and Mrs Puff defeat that point, so I don’t think that was the reason.
He wants sandy to be his *valentine* ❤️
Did you look at Sandy’s part with the relationship? In goons on the moon (most recent episode) she says that she loves spongebob even though he is not very smart, yes she actually says she loves spongebob to the camera, you have to watch the episode to really understand it.
And Also Me And Sandy In Truth Or Square We Were MARRIED
I ship tho the first episode of the show SpongeBob indirectly went on a date with her like in her house
Spongebob actually fell in love 😍 with a Krabby Patty until it was rotten and had maggots in it.
I Have A Crush.... On Sandy Me x A Patty Is Weird You No...
Some even more subtle hints:
- In Suds, SpongeBob, almost for granted, requests Sandy to take him to the doctor's and she's a bit too concerned
- In Wormy, SpongeBob's first worry about the butterfly is that it might eat Sandy even though she's out of town
- The entirety of Prehibernation Week; Sandy goes bonkers over SpongeBob
- In Squirrel Jokes, she's both the loudest one cheering him on and willing to inflate him with water to make him that see he's hurt her, and after a loss of confidence, he learns his lesson
- In Pressure, they take each others' teasing a bit too seriously
- In I Had an Accident, Sandy's last idea to get SpongeBob outdoors is to make him think he has to save her from a gorilla
- In Dunces and Dragons, SpongeBob is overjoyed that "Sandy" complimented him ("I don't understand a word you just said!")
Spongebob may be able to reproduce by budding, yet he has parents. I may be thinking too deep into a show with plenty of continuity errors though.
I can't see them being more than friends, especially in the later seasons when Sandy uses Spongebob as a lab rat.
I missed hearing your reviews for Spongebob and so much so that I've been rewatching all of them lately.
And also,
THAT PGR SHIRT IS SO CUTE!!!
Technically, spongebob did marry sandy since their play involved a real priest who didn’t know it was a play. In a deleted scene the priest said didn’t know this was a play and spongebob replies “it doesn’t have to be” sandy then slaps him and then leaves.
Remember Truth or Square when SpongeBob imagined marrying Sandy.
Why is Married to Money a Plankton romantic episode I would consider the Plankton romance episode would be Single Sell Anniversary
There was also a small hint in the episode "House sitting for Sandy". Spongebob compliments her and she blushed and goes all goo goo eyed for a second
I’ve always thought of Spongebob’s affection toward Sandy to be kind of like puppy love, where he has a crush on her but doesn’t quite understand his feelings yet, like when little kids have crushes.
saying Spongebob might have a crush on Patrick just made me burst out laughing.
