Hello I’m from Victoria, Australia! Cold, wet and miserable here! I’m happy to hear all is okay with you and your home! 💐
Y’all are in the middle of winter Down Under, right? I’m glad to be home too ❤️
Hi Toni! I live in the Houston area, too, Fort Bend County! I am not an active UA-camr, but I follow several sewing channels here, and your UA-cam channel popped up in my feed. What a pleasure to visit with you and hear your thoughts on personal style and sewing! I learned how to sew in middle school and loved it. Sewing is therapeutic and allows me to be creative! I have subscribed to your channel....look forward to hearing from me again! Happy sewing and creating!
Hi Patricia!! I’m on the southwest side of Houston-just north on 59 from Fort Bend! I’m so glad that you found my channel too!! I wanted to learn to sew in middle school but I have to take computer science instead. Sewing would have been more helpful in the long run 🤣 I hope that you can join the live stream in August.
This Canadian is catching up on your video on Sunday. Will try to catch next month's stream on time. Love your videos and that you share real results.
Thanks for watching the replay! I hope to see you on the livestream next month ❤️
I hadn’t even considered what my style is or what I want it to be. Food for thought! I can never find anything in my wardrobe to wear to go out for a nice meal so I definitely need to think about what I could make! Thanks so much for the video!
You’re welcome! Thank you watching the replay.
Hi, I’m watching from California 🌹
Thanks for watching Rose ❤️
Hi Toni, I’ve just found your channel and so enjoyed your take on style! I’m a lawyer too - but retired now and it’s taken me some years to “come out” of my standard lawyer uniform! My practice wasn’t court based and I did graduate over the years from formal black suits to black dress and coloured cardie (😂) but I still wore heels every day - and yes until literally a couple of years before I retired in 2018, I STILL trotted through London and the tube, and trains in heels! By the time I retired, white leather trainers and silky dresses were de rigeur for all the young lawyers, so I sort of adapted that look! Now I wouldn’t dream of being in town other than in flats! Btw, when I started as a young lawyer it was literally forbidden to wear trousers to court! Judges wouldn’t hear you if you appeared in front of them “improperly dressed”! Can’t remember exactly when that changed but it had to be sometime in the 80s! Now I’m back to sewing as I have the time at last and thoroughly enjoying it! Thank you for sharing your ideas!
Hi Moira! The second message was listed first, otherwise I would have been terribly confused. I have a friend who started practicing law in the late 70s/early 80s who also was not allowed to wear pants in court or in the office. Plus she had to wear pantyhose and heels. The torture you lady attorneys went through to blaze a trail for us to follow!! And walking in heels around London taking the tube?!? I would have snapped an ankle on day one 🤣 I do wear skirt suits and heels every day. Occasionally I’ll throw on a pair of pants when I don’t feel like shaving my legs. But I get it. The lawyer armor gets tiresome. I’m lucky that I’ve lost weight and fitting into some old suits that were in the back of the closet. It’s like having a new wardrobe!!
I’m so glad that you found my channel and are enjoying my content. I’m so happy that you’re here ☺️
2nd comment because they're two different trains of thought. LOL. I'm completely with you on simple patterns. I read a great statement on that somewhere. "Simple patterns, gorgeous fabric."
I also recently read a great blog post on Liesl & Co., on style. It's a three word concept from a book by a designer. The 1st word is practical on your current wardrobe, the 2nd word reflects aspirations for your wardrobe, and the 3rd is rooted in emotional elements about personal style. That resonated with me. I came up with Simple, comfortable, and Little Old Lady Cute. Simple works for my "retired" life with my veteran hubby. Comfortable is aspirational because between travel and fibromyalgia, I need comfortable clothes. I might also have a touch of Asperger's because certain fabrics and tags are very uncomfortable. Zippers and functional buttons are also very frustrating to me.
Finally, the LOL-Cute thing. I'm turning 60 in September and have been going gray since I was 16. Having fun with growing older is important to me.
I’m a huge fan of simple pattern fabulous fabric 😉 why cut up beautiful fabric with all those seams?!?
Also, I love the three word style. I’ve heard another UA-camr mention something similar. I need to think of my 3 words 🤔
And I TOTALLY feel the premature grey-though I my case it just started growing out white. I found the first one when I was 16. It’s whiter in the front and if you look closely in this video you can see my inch long white roots 🤣
I'm glad you made it safely through the hurricaine's wrath. I like your black t-shirt and jeans uniform. Mine is a black t-shirt dress lol, it's comfy. I hope one day to meet you for coffee. Unfortunately, I don't see it happening in August. But defenitely planning on heading to the Houston area since my sister lives near there. I look forward to you sharing your experience with the serger class. I have one but have yet to use it.
Hi Jeannie! I’m glad to be home too. It was an epic adventure being gone for a week. There’s nothing like a good uniform-a black t-shirt dress sounds comfy. I don’t blame you for not visiting in August, it’s always the hottest month of the year. But do let me know when you come to Houston so we can meet up!
Hi Toni! I bet it was quite an adventure .
I’m happy to know you copied the pattern and will be getting started on the muslin. I look forward to seeing it. Best wishes! Take care. 😊
Greetings from Brisbane Australia, sunny and a little cool but just beautiful
Hi! Thanks for watching the replay 😊
I caught this on the replay and appreciate your thoughts. I have three of the Bishop books including the one you read from. Edna Bishop was quite a pioneer in bringing the unit concept of sewing to home sewing. She also played a huge role in advances in paper patterns and partnered with J. C. Penny on that. I may gift those books to someone in the vintage sewing group where I learned about the Bishop Method. The highly structured clothes are not my style and not in my skill level. My Simplicity book is a much better resource for looking up techniques. I do however love the Bishop Hot Hemmer tool. I use it for hemming, but also for folding in Foundation Paper type quilting.
The Bishop method books are very good, but I agree they are for more structured clothes than I care to make. The funny thing is that I’ve been using the Dritz EZY Hem for years prior to reading the books. It’s one of my favorite sewing tools.
Greetings from Australia 🦘 I Sew Sew enjoy watching you❤ I was disappointed that I missed you live one question when are you going to have your beautiful Nana on with you
@@sallyolsen1244 thank you for watching the replay! Grandma will be making a cameo appearance in my wedding dress toile fitting video coming out next month!
Watching your recording from Southern California, near Pasadena. Over 100 today, but a dry heat! (Have spent a lot of time in Tx and the humidity -- ackckckck!) Glad you're home and all is good. (My closest contact to Houston is a dear friend who lives in Sugar Land... her power was out quite a while too... :( )
I think we are around 100 today; it’s “tropical” as my fiancée likes to say 🤣. I’m on the southwest side of Houston; Sugarland is about 20 minutes south on the highway. I think most of the people in the city and surrounding areas have power now, but there are plenty of street lights still flashing.
Former Texan, watching from AZ
You escaped the humidity but not the heat going to AZ! 🤣
Mexico! ❤❤❤
Thanks for watching ☺️
Catching up on sunday as usual. Great video . As i live in a small town in scotland i buy 90% of my fabric online fabric shops are rare even in the city, fortunately they sell samples so i can feel the fabric first. It might seem a bit of a faff but thats unfortunately the way i have always had to do it. Also i have to disagree that your not that tall !! 5 ft 5 i dream of being that as a tiny 5ft 2 if i stretch 😂😂😂😂
Getting samples first is a good idea but that makes the whole process take longer. It such a shame that there aren’t many stores left. Wandering around fabric shops feeling fabric is one of my favorite past times!
Hello from Atlanta! ❤️
Hello there! Thanks for watching the replay 😊
I'm shirley watching from Tennessee
Hi Shirley! Thanks for watching 😊
I’m watching the rerun.
Thanks for watching Lori!
Watching from Canada, 34C and Smokey from northern forest fires 🙁
Ooh that’s got to be rough. Hopefully those fires get controlled soon!
I can afford to shop, but I’ll shop at the thrift store in a heartbeat. Some of the clothes that survived are better made than modern, and the things available are different. I hate the new stuff, it’s made to disintegrate when washed. Hey, tell clients they can wear their pajamas to court, but it’s likely they’ll be wearing a comfy orange jumpsuit with monogramming later if they do!
I will buy vintage at thrift shops and I’ve made some great finds. And you’re right clothes these days clothes don’t last like they used too. I’m glad that I invested in good quality suits back in the day!
Ps I’m Moira North - I’m using my husbands iPad I’ve just realised 😂😂😂
Thank you for the clarification! ❤️
Hi 👋🏻
Hello my friend! I’m pretty sure you took the photo of me at court that’s used in the thumbnail. ❤️
Phoenix, AZ. Hot, hot, hot here. October, where are you?
I’ll be in Houston for my wedding and we are heading to West Texas for our honeymoon.
A suit is armour against cultural bias or gender bias.
Both of which I get to deal with as a Hispanic woman practicing law. Thankfully most of my clients act like regular human beings.
This Canadian is catching up on your video on Sunday. Will try to catch next month's stream on time. Love your videos and that you share real results.
Please do!
